  1. What's amazing is just how this team has regressed so much from last season even though we added JW and CJ. People say that JJ didn't "run an offenfensive system". THEN LET'S GO BACK TO THAT!!!! Because whatever the hell Benford is trying to run is obviously not working. Square peg(players) round hole(system). You know what you have the one peg that can't change this season, the players, but you have the chance to change the hole/system to make it work. Figure it out Benford. Sweet jesus this is just infuriating. I've never been so excited for any UNT athletic team as I was for this one headed into the season. We may not win 8 games this year. You can spout off all you want about the players not playing to the system or not buying in or not being smart enough play a sophisticated system or being to "street" to run sets. Fine then. Let's go with any of those reasons/excuses, whatever you want to call them. But look at what this team did last season with less!!! If all JJ did was roll the ball out there and tell them to go play then lets fucking get back to that!!!!   4. I am an ECU fan and somewhat of a message board nerd. When the new schools joined Conf USA, to learn more about them, I went to each of the message boards to glean what I could about the history of each school . In my opinion, this forum has some of the most well informed and level headed posters among all Conf USA schools, including ones already in the conference. I actually have learned quite a bit about your school through some of the excellant posts. I really think Conf USA will be a competitive league and it certainly was important to ECU. Except for Southern Miss and Marshall, ECU did not have any rivalries in the Conf when we started in it. Over time however, ECU developed some very good ones , as well as benefiting from better recruiting, and fan support. Anyway, good look to you guys are you enter Conf USA. I think you will be pleased with what it can do for a school.

I know you WANT this thing to work, but don't you find it a little interesting that the same players return from last year, and team play regresses this horribly? Step in the GMG.com time machine if you will. Look back to 4 months ago. Were you excited about this team? Why? I bet I can answer for you: Our All-American was returning, a year older & a year wiser. He also went to NBA camps and excelled there. On top of this, we return a fantastic core of great players, and are assured grades will not be a problem (and they haven't been). We bring in a heralded recruit to fill the big-man role vacated by Hogans. National basketball writers are buzzing about our team... not just GMG.com people & Vito. The ONLY VARIABLE??? Coach Tony Benford. Because, after all, we've SEEN all of the players (sans Coleman & Hardwick), and know what they bring to the table. Do some of them have weaknesses? Sure! Do their strengths exceed their weaknesses? Absolutely... because we've SEEN it. Fast-forward to today and step out of the GMG.com time machine. These same players are displaying drastic regression from last year. Our record is abysmal and coach Benford has all but lost the team (if he hasn't yet). I refuse to believe that all of these players simply forgot how to hit a jumper or how to penetrate the lane. Because I've SEEN them do it. Are you telling me/us that you believe all of the players' level of play regressed over a span of 8 months, and the addition of coach Benford has only a minimal impact on this?

  7. New coach shouldn't be stuck with old coach's recruits. Coaching stability should be a deciding factor for kids that make early commitments.

  8. Kingsbury is a hell of a coach. I wish we would have promoted him at UH instead of promoting Levine but what's done is done. Now I'm going to play Devil's Advocate. If he did not fit the offense, he did not fit the offense. There are numerous schools out there for him to choose from, so it's not like his football career is over or anything. Mac has pulled some offers from kids, especially considering that for some of them, UNT was their only D1 offer. So does that mean his word can't be trusted either? Things like this happen all the time. You should think about it from a coach's perspective aside from a fan's.

  9. How about the over-medication of our youth? How about the glorification of mass murderers by the media? How about the abdication of parenting in our society ? Or, you can blame it on a mechanical device, because that's the easy thing to do and will get emotion on your side. It's crazy. It's like blaming drunk driving deaths on the automobile. But it's easy, and as a society, we have decided that we pretty much don't want to do anything hard to solve problems.

  10. I think we should have throwback day in 2013! Think about the revenue opportunities for the school. Sell NTSU shirts, old logo items, bring back some leaders from the past and celebrate our history at halftime. Play some music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Rule #1: 1. Make sure this is a non-televised game - no need to confuse the sheep out there. 2. Create a tagline for the game - Our History Our Pride or A Rich Tradition BSU celebrates its history from the 50's through the ranks of 1AA and into today's college football power. I have seen so many colors, logos, names...and I only started following the Mean Green in '86! I have a lot to learn about our Rich Past. Finally, I saw a 16 ounce glass tumbler at Voertmans the other day with our full fight song on it, including the change U-N-T-Eagles...I would like to see the football leadership - coaches, student presidents, fraternities, alumni associations...talk to the kids at Eagle Camp or whatever we call it. Talk about working together to preserve the pride of our fight song. Get them to practice it and even talk about how to drown out anyone who disrespects the fight song. It would be like turning the tide against the idiots and getting students to organize for tradition. This could also be talked about in freshman orientations... GMG

One person interviewed said he thought there would be people crying when they watched Ray's last dance. ESPN apologizes for Brent Musberger's statements about how beautiful a woman is, but they praise the degenerate Ray Lewis. yea

  15. I don't know why we are having a problem communicating. Maybe our respective brands of sarcasm just don't connect too well. I'm agreeing with you. Use the "military-industrial" complex comment all you want, because it wasn't coined by some pot smoking hippy of the late sixties, but by someone who should know.....DD Eisenhower. So that makes it VALID.

  20. Maybe part of the reason occupancy rates are so low is that there is nothing to drive people to the sleepy little town of Denton other than the few events at the TMS and the OU/TX game. I suspect the old hotel was saddled with the expense of trying to maintain the golf course. After UNT took the golf course off the hotel's hands, it was going to cost millions of dollars to remodel the hotel to bring it up to par and the hotel management company couldn't afford to make the needed enhancements. So, UNT took over the lease and the building was eventually demolished.

  22. Wow...just wow! I know UALR tends to hold team scoring down, but how does a team just stop scoring in the final quarter of a game? That is two games in a row where these guys just forgot how to shoot at the end. Man, how do these things keep happening? Most over hyped UNT team in all my history with the program. Expectations obviously set way too high, but that doesn't make it suck any less. Really feel bad for the team. I know they go out wanting and expecting to win. This must be even tougher on the payers and coaches as it is on the fans. Man, UNT needs some shooting and a win or two ASAP! I'll be there've Saturday for the S Ala game.....hoping that the team breaks out of this funk and gets the W. Hope to see you there!

  24. Problem here is that this is not a generality...it happened to this kid...because other kids change their minds has nothing to do with this kid. Tough luck for this kid...just hope he lands somewhere else...if not UNT then hopefully somewhere in the Big XII so he can try to stick it to Kingsbury and Tech. Yep, it happens, it is nothing new...but it shouldn't happen and it sucks for this kid. My prediction...he will land somewhere and he will be fine. Probably best for him if this is the way Kingsbury wants to run his program.

Investigators believe he originally intended to rob the homeowners, but for some reason shifted his focus to finding Melinda Herman and her twin 9-year old children hiding in a crawl space upstairs. "At some point he must have seen one of the kids go upstairs or heard them because he went upstairs, pried open the bedroom door, the bathroom door, back bathroom door and then pulled open the crawl space to get to them," said Cpt. Greg Hall with the Walton County Sheriff's Office. When Slater opened that last door, he was confronted with six bullets fired from a .38 handgun. Five hit their mark, giving the Hermans a chance to escape. Melinda called her husband while the family was in hiding and he in turn called police. In the 911 tape he tells his wife, "Melinda, if he opens that door you shoot, you shoot him. You understand?" Less than two minutes later you hear Donnie Herman tell the 911 dispatcher, "She shot him. She's shooting him. She's shooting him. She's shooting him again, shoot him!" The call between Donnie and his wife then goes silent. It will be seven long agonizing minutes before dispatchers tell Donnie his wife and children are okay. Slater made it out of the house as well, but was found nearby on Jakes Cove, with his car on the side of the road. The police report says Slater was on the ground bleeding from the face and body. The family declined to talk about the 911 call or what happened , but Cpt. Hall says they're clearly still shaken. "Just like I told her that night, there's right and there's wrong and then there's not natural. And it's not natural to have to shoot someone. So it's going to bother you and if it doesn't bother you at some point in your life, there's something wrong." said Hall. Slater remains on a ventilator in intensive care at Gwinnett Medical Center...." Rick

  36. Just pointing out what can happen when government goes unchecked. As far as gun laws, it was the authors of and the voters for the second amendment who were worried about US government oppression. If you want to change gun laws, you need to go through the process of amending the second amendment of the constitution. That is why the process is there. Any attempt to shortcut that process is an attempt to undermine the constitution itself. Undermining the constitution is the most basic form of undermining our form of government...

  40. No excuses. Benford was a bad hire. It was a mistake that needs to be corrected sooner than later. I don't think it is in good taste to go to a coach's show and make him look worse than he already does. I won't be going to another game this season - it is not worth my time.

  44. He has a nose for the ball all right. Don't really like that most of his tackles are up around the shoulder pads though. That won't work on the D1 level. That's something that can be corrected with the proper coaching. Welcome aboard Sergio!
