NIU is in the Orange Bowl playing Florida State and that Central Michigan beat WKU and that Ohio U is currently handing ULM's butts to them .........it just seems logical to me that those of you who have so adamently declared the MAC to be the lowest of the FBS conferences (with the Sunbelt Conference being of higher standing) might need to go back and re-think that conclusion. Even if NIU gets blown out against Florida State (and that is "iffy") it seems to me that the MAC deserves a lot of respect for what it has done this year - and before, as well. I have no dog in the hunt - I just think respect should be given where respect is due. GMG4 points

I can see it's time for us to have "the talk". You see when a man AND a woman get together and the peni...oh nevermind, let's just leave it at you'd have to leave mommy's basement and get a girl.3 points

It may be immature, but it is one of the very few traditions that a large number of students participate in. Digest that for a minute.3 points

Believe me, if any of our players start to light you up they'll be promptly subbed out. I'm told that helps them to "mature". We may lose to you by 25...but 10 years from now our players will be better husbands and fathers for it.3 points

Case McCoy and Jordan Hicks were sent home this week. "Texas quarterback Case McCoy and linebacker Jordan Hicks have been suspended and sent home a day before the Valero Alamo Bowl for breaking team rules, a source within the school's administration told ESPN.com Friday. On Friday morning, KENS-TV in San Antonio quoted San Antonio police as saying that two Texas players were being investigated regarding sexual assault allegations." http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls12/story/_/id/8787252/texas-longhorns-suspend-case-mccoy-jordan-hicks-valero-alamo-bowl We might have a couple guys who like the 5 finger discount, but at least they arnt accused of sexual assault2 points

There really seems to be some polarizing going on with this topic (once again). Look, I'm willing to bet that some of the folks that are against the 'addition' to the fight song also get really pissed off and say things aloud that would warrant censorship. I don't think anyone is saying, "Stop cursing altogether!" That's just not going to happen. At the same time, the "at least they are coming to the games" justification is just plain wrong, as there are lots of students that come to the games who are also appalled at the 'addition'. I think I can speak for most old farts (oh my, I'm only in my lower 30's) on here when I say I couldn't care less if you curse at the game, have an organized chant with some cursing, or even if you insert "m-f'n" into one of the band's songs... ... just don't do it to the fight song or the alma mater. Is that too much to ask? These songs are sacred to our university, and to have that particular insertion so whimsically added just shows a lack of respect for the tradition of the song or what it stands for. Why can't you guys sing "Fly like a m-f'n eagle, to the m-f'n sea..." Honestly, you would probably have alot more chances to sing that than the fight song anyway as this is a GB favorite and is played just as often, if not more often, than the fight song.2 points

Now, if they could just limit Checkfacts, oh, I mean GLTG, to 2 paragraphs per post (no more than 50 words per paragraph), all GMG Christmas wishes would be granted.2 points

Evidently, I didn't get a life for christmas because I still find myself wasting time on this board with all the gmg dweebs.2 points

We are going to have 3 CB's on the field a lot I suspect. If nobody leaves the program, we will have 17 returning DB's plus the new guys. If the secondary is not better than last year, something is terribly wrong.2 points

You lost me when you mentioned size since Whitfield is the bigger of the two. Welcome aboard Mr. Davis.2 points

It's not a tradition. Traditions are things that are established over time AND things that we can all be proud of. Simply repeating something doesn't make it a "tradition". I poop pretty much every day. You'll never hear me speak fondly of my "tradition" of pooping.2 points

Well excuse me for wanting to upgrade our talent level. I like Whitfield and want him on the field in a position he can best succeed. While he made some plays, that was also a function of how often he got picked on. He is undersized and that was exploited by some bigger receivers. I would rather see Whitfield covering guys in the slot vs. all alone on an island on the outside. We can win CUSA with Whitfield as our 3rd cb. I like him, I would just like to have some better options in front of him.2 points

When did college kids get so danged immature? Where are the crew cuts? What happened to manners? Why are there so many annoying clouds floating around up there??2 points
-
Why would you want to push a kid who made 2nd team All Conference as a red shirt freshman out of the starting role????? At a position he converted to in Summer practice???? Seriously, people!2 points
-
Also, Whitfield isn't going to be challenged. Need to put Hilbert at the CB to be challenged spot. Whitfield was 2nd team all conference as a redshirt freshman at a position he switched to in summer practice. One of 3 offensive or defensive players to make all conference (he and Orr were the only 2 from defense). You do know Chancellor didn't make the all conference team, right?2 points

Didn't see where anyone had posted a video of this guy. Sorry if a duplicate. He looks a little raw, but he is a big, strong, pretty fast kid that we are recruiting as an athlete. It is always nice to have some former QBs sprinkled around the field. Currently only North Texas and TxSt have offered based on info I found, but there are several that are looking at him. edit: Rivals lists him at 6'4", 190lbs, 4.5 40 http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Aaron-Doddy-140876;_ylt=AkVuxkLrw_Ad9K87fhHYxwdIPZB4 ESPN video: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=79407551 point

From Heading For The Exits. I think this serves as a good follow-up to CurveItAround's excellent .?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> It shows the complete conference realignment, flow-chart style. I never realized how much of CUSA and the Big East have been shaken up in this till now.1 point

Awesome pick up. We need competition every off-season to push our starters to get to the next level. We should play the best players.1 point

Davis is closer to 5'11 than 5'10. And he has legit track speed considering he runs the 4x1 and was on the 4x2 that went to state. He is a legit 4.40 forty and may get faster considering he has another track season where he and his team are favorites to return to state. The only issue for Davis will be learning the defense and playing against stronger competition since he is moving up to college level. I doubt he has over 60 yards caught on him in over 2 years, and fort bend has a lot of athletes. Speed and quickness will not be an issue.1 point

I have seen Whitfield in person. That is why I doubt his listed height. I do, however, usually trust the recruiting sites about height/weight. I do not trust a listed high school 40 time, which are almost always inaccurate. I understand you want to replace the eagle statue on the field at Apogee with one of Whitfield because he made 2nd team All Sun Belt as a redshirt freshman. I believe Whitifield can be solid contributor on a winning team, but I would like to see us recruit players better than him..1 point

So you don't believe Whitfield's roster height, but you do believe Davis's roster height? Dirty little secret for you: The lower the competition level you go, the bigger the lies are about measurables. Whitfield was 2nd team all conference as a redshirt freshman playing a new position. Jackson wasn't anywhere on the all-conference team. Whitfield also won a defensive award at the football banquet. Think I will go with the opinion of this staff and other conference coaches. The odd man out, if there even is one, won't be Whitfield.1 point

Since when is 5'9 bigger than 5'10? And if Whitfield is actually 5'9 then Brandon Kennedy was 6'0.1 point

If your looking to upgrade, you should mention the corner that didn't make the all-conference team.1 point

Good for Pedersen, mentioned that every call was a charge against NT with NT on offense and a block with MTSU on offense. Hard to win on the road.1 point

NT loses, not sure how much longer they can lose all the close games Young team that will mature at some point1 point

NT wbb again ahead at half, 35-33 over MTSU Been ahead in 9 of 11 games at half but only won 2.1 point

wouldn't mind seeing us actually list the nickel back position on the depth chart since it is needed so often. It is not an uncommon practice.1 point

OL is fine. RB is fine. TE is fine. QB is fine. WR is a problem if all we have is Chancellor again. DL is on shaky ground unless the redshirt DTs are really good runstoppers. LB is fine. Secondary should be fine with everyone getting that good ol' "experience" year under their belts. Punter is a wildcard. If that position is bad, it can kill you quick. Gotta hope for something good emerges there. One positive is that there hasn't been a bunch of turnover in the staff, so everyone should be on the same page. That is, everyone should be on the same page - coaches and players - as to the assignments and execution. I think 2013 is a big year. But, not as much as it would have been had the C-USA not begun to fall apart. Still, with everything as unsettled as it is beyond 2013 conference-wise, you just don't know. We could wind up with the majority of our "new opponents" being old Sun Belt foes in the long run. So...I just hope we can start beating whomever is on the schedule.1 point

I'm a huge fan of this type of get. We need a bunch more like this. Right now, we've got a bunch of potential "diamonds in the rough." The only coach to ever make that scenario work for us was Darrell Dickey.1 point

TCU was looking at him for safety. He's a man to man, bump and run corner. A true man to man, cover corner is hard to find and from some of the UNT games i have seen, he may already be the best man to man cover guy on the team immediately. If he gets any faster this track season, he will be running a 4.3 40, so he could also play FS safety. It will also depend on the type of defense UNT will run. If it's a lot of zone, then he will have to learn the defense and schemes. Not a lot of thinking with man to man. If he is able to step in and lock down a corner, that will allow the safeties to do a whole lot more in the box.1 point
-
OR, failing that, maybe if we get a few more talented DB's like this young man, and then we can get more "coverage sacks". God I miss the days when opposing QB's were running for their lives.1 point

It isn't going away, unfortunately. Just from reading the vibe of the students, they just will do it louder.1 point

Here is a link to a Google map that shows Gang of 5 FBS conferences laid out and color coded on a map so that it is easy to visually see where the conference memebers are located. You may have to zoom in/out to adjust the display level. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=217768008643381202827.0004d19dc64c7e4c49bd71 point
