  1. Why are you trying to disillusion meangreener? With our luck lately, a UNT shirt in Connecticut may be a small thing, but it is a nice thing, especially following our disappointing football season and what appears to be a disastrous basketball season. I am cynic by nature but I know what to be cynical about. Keep those sightings coming meangreener, we need a little Christmas right this very minute.

  2. Why would you want to push a kid who made 2nd team All Conference as a red shirt freshman out of the starting role????? At a position he converted to in Summer practice???? Seriously, people!

  4. Kind of like when we were Cobb's only D1 offer. Thank goodness we weren't targeting that kind of recruit. Point being, some kids just get overlooked when they shouldn't have.

  5. There are going to be some very good battles going on this Spring, and I am sure well into Fall. The best part about it is that in most of the position battles, there will be some quality depth to have people fight it out. For as long as I can remember, since the DD years, we have needed and wanted competition, but didn't really have the guys to compete for spots. Many of the position battles recently have seemed to be won by default. Take a look at the following, and it seems like we might have some good ones shaping up... QB - Thompson/Berglund HB - Jimmerson/Pegram/Byrd WR - There are a host of guys, and the only sure one is Chancellor RT - Anyiam/RS's/JUCO C - Feldt/JUCO (this old be one of those default battles due to health issues w/ Feldt) DE - Bellazin/RS's/JUCO DT - We have a couple of RS kids that will be battling it out for Cantly's spot CB - Chad Davis/James Jones/Whitfield S - Busby/Buyers/Davis/Kelly/Lee/Marshall/Trice (I can't see Trice not locking a safety spot up) P - ???? Should be fun!

  7. TCU was looking at him for safety. He's a man to man, bump and run corner. A true man to man, cover corner is hard to find and from some of the UNT games i have seen, he may already be the best man to man cover guy on the team immediately. If he gets any faster this track season, he will be running a 4.3 40, so he could also play FS safety. It will also depend on the type of defense UNT will run. If it's a lot of zone, then he will have to learn the defense and schemes. Not a lot of thinking with man to man. If he is able to step in and lock down a corner, that will allow the safeties to do a whole lot more in the box.

  8. Believe me, if any of our players start to light you up they'll be promptly subbed out. I'm told that helps them to "mature". We may lose to you by 25...but 10 years from now our players will be better husbands and fathers for it.

  15. And then it will go away again. I know kids in college think they are the center of the universe, but they are sadly mistaken. Grow up. Realize that older alums that have actually accomplished a thing or two in life don't appreciate obscenities in their alma mater's fight song. Realize that they are pissed that your immaturity caused THEIR fight song to be altered. Realize that maybe people with young children in the crowd don't want their children exposed to this language. And most of all, maybe have a sense of self-perspective that when you get older, this will be behavior of which you will be very embarrassed. If you grow up, that is.

  16. Read an article behind a pay wall about this kid from China Spring. Was 1st team all district at center. According to the article, he benches 400 pounds and squats 650. These are numbers associated with much higher rated recruits on the dline. He is only 6'1"/285 so he knows he has to switch to dline if he has a chance at a scholly. Supposedly getting lots of looks, but no offers yet. Sounds like a solid player to offer to walkon or if we somehow end up with an unused scholly. Really like the strength numbers. So many of the kids this size coming from HS struggle with posting 350/550 bench/squat numbers which won't get it done at this level. Sounds a lot like the the Victor Howell kid we offered from Kimball. Most interested in UNT, SMU, and Baylor. 22. Mr Jackson had maybe the second best highlight play of the year behind the "jailbait" screen by the jimmy show to beat the Cajuns. That hit on the lsu qb wasn't a remarkable play by hilbert, but he made the play. Maybe he disguised the corner blitz well... I don't know. It was maybe the biggest off the couch moment for me, with apologies to tons of plays in the ksu game.

  23. I doubt he gets any action at center. Maybe can get him to walk on? If accurate, his strength numbers sound intriguing. Found this recruiting page/video. http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tx/china-spring/china-spring-high-school/brian-pullen

  25. I saw Derek Harper at a bowling alley once and wouldn't you know it, a few years later, he bought the bowling alley. Larry Brown is being whispered for this job (along with every other name in the world.) Friends with the GM and it would certainly be funny, but very doubtful it happens.

  26. Looks like a good pick up. Secondary definitely getting numbers and with all four starters returning could develop into a a very strong position. I think all 4 returning starters will have to up their game to stay on the first team.

  27. OL is fine. RB is fine. TE is fine. QB is fine. WR is a problem if all we have is Chancellor again. DL is on shaky ground unless the redshirt DTs are really good runstoppers. LB is fine. Secondary should be fine with everyone getting that good ol' "experience" year under their belts. Punter is a wildcard. If that position is bad, it can kill you quick. Gotta hope for something good emerges there. One positive is that there hasn't been a bunch of turnover in the staff, so everyone should be on the same page. That is, everyone should be on the same page - coaches and players - as to the assignments and execution. I think 2013 is a big year. But, not as much as it would have been had the C-USA not begun to fall apart. Still, with everything as unsettled as it is beyond 2013 conference-wise, you just don't know. We could wind up with the majority of our "new opponents" being old Sun Belt foes in the long run. So...I just hope we can start beating whomever is on the schedule.

  28. I'm a huge fan of this type of get. We need a bunch more like this. Right now, we've got a bunch of potential "diamonds in the rough." The only coach to ever make that scenario work for us was Darrell Dickey.

  29. Is this your definition of support? Post from Eppy: "Friends, I was unable to attend a single game this season and would love some of you to clue me into where we stand, whether there's still the feeling of momentum, and what general thoughts about the team are as we head into CUSA. I became frustrated this season in that every game I planned on attending ended up on local TV therefore was unable to watch it in person to get the feel for crowd energy, excitement, etc. It didn't look great from my couch." Didn't you ask for a pair of Big 12 flip flops for Christmas?

  34. OR, failing that, maybe if we get a few more talented DB's like this young man, and then we can get more "coverage sacks". God I miss the days when opposing QB's were running for their lives.

  35. If McNulty does not win the 1st or 2nd QB spot in the spring does he get moved to DB or WR before the fall? From the sounds of it, Kayden Kirby has shown that he will be in the mix at center as well.

  36. This is the kind of talent I expect McCarney to pull in. Hopefully this kid can push Whitfield into a nickel or dimeback position, where he will be great. Our secondary and LB are looking solid. Now if we can just sign or develop some DL we will be bowling.

  44. No, they had either a 1-for-1 or a 2-for-1 with Nebraska that is now a 2 or 3 game series all at Nebraska. So they are getting either about 1 million per game or 700k per game.

  46. It used to be basketball that got us through football off-season. Now its just facility upgrades that's keeping us from jumping off the cliff. I just hope we can somehow pull together and get a decent seed for the SBC Tourney.

  47. We seem to be making a trend of this lately...in several sports. Kids sign with us and we wax poetic about how much potential they have and what a great "get" they are by our coaching staff. Then, if they leave or they play badly, they're immature or can't handle the pressure of a D1 juggernaut like NT!! Man, we literally can do no wrong around here.
