Sure, Kentucky has a full practice before every game. Do you believe anything that makes your point?4 points

Actually, Mitchell was mad at himself. Same he has been all this year and last. Mitchell has got to learn to let it go when he misses a shot, free throw, etc... He is very hard on himself to the point of affecting his performance. He needs to realize even the best players are only successful 50 percent of the time. Don't dwell on it. It's killing his game.4 points

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the streets, Not a person was stirring, 'cept an officer on the beat. As he quietly patrolled the town with great care, children and parents slept peacefully there. ... The officer was clad in his blues and his vest, gun on his hip, always looking his best. He'd just pulled aside for a quick bite to eat, When all of a sudden, out on the street, A bright light appeared from out of nowhere, He shielded his eyes from the brilliant glare. 'Twas an angel of the Lord at the squad's rear, He smiled and spoke, "Dear Officer, don't fear." "I've been sent by God with a message for you who faithfully serve while wearing the blue. He wants you to know He loves you all, He's pleased with the way you've answered His call. "To protect and serve others, so selfless you've been, Your bravery and kindness have known no end. Even in tragedy, when nights became long, You've helped countless strangers by being strong. "God sees your heart, the joy and the pain, He knows the profession can often bring strain. So he sent me here to let you know, That as you patrol, He goes where you go. "As you protect others, your Father protects you, His angels go with you, His Spirit does, too. No bullet too fast, no bad guy too strong, I'm sent to make sure that your life will be long. "So fear not the night, and fear not the day, fear not the threats that might come your way. I'm sent to accompany you on your beat, There's not one moment you're alone on the street." The officer sat stunned by the love of His God, He bowed his head, with a tear gave a nod. As the officer said thank you, the angel took flight, "God's got your back, carry on, and goodnight."2 points

Boys,it's Christmas, and no one has died because our mens basketball team was perhaps overated and maybe undercoached. I would not have used a comparison between Sandy Hook and our mens team, but I'm sure no harm was intended. The bottom line is that we expected sirlon for dinner and got chicken fried steak. While I would not have hired a coach without a successful head coaching background, Bedford is not the one who can't hit an outside shot nor has an attitude problem[Tony Mitchell]. We are just not a very good team. The UNT/Southeastern La. game was the worst college basketball. game this 70 year old geezer has ever seen bar non. I went to pre-NIT tourney at K.State, and in our loss to Alabama-Huntsville our opponent did what everyone else has done;pack in in on Tony because we have no one who can hit from the outside on a consistant basis. Mitchell had 10 points and 5 fouls in that game, which pretty much mirrors his season YTD.[ By the by,UAH had about 10 times the number of fans than we did]At any rate, the conference race begins in January, so lets hope for a fresh start in 2013 for our team and our nation. Best to you and yours over the holidays,Ward White.2 points

Hope there can be a fix where our last 4 games are not away. As it sets, pretty goofy travel schedule. Non con...2-2.... hopefully 3-1. Conf games....I dont see a team that we can't beat...I see some tough games, i.e., La Tech, Tulsa, Rice...maybe. I go back and say that good teams win games it should win....great team finds a way to win some games that they shouldn't. I still think we are a young team, but I also see us a better team than this past year. Competition at key positions will make each player and the team better. We had some good players sitting out this past season, a key injury, and I think we have some good redshirts. If we are a good team, we have 6 wins....if we have a great team or even a great team in the making, I think 8 wins. If we over achieve, I can see us loosing only 1 game. Again, please understand my perspective....I never think a game any of my 3 boys play in we get beat; not because of their play, but because I am their greatest fan and motivator...and I believe that on any given game day, anyone can beat anyone. Bottom line...I think we are 7-8 wins this year and that we are in position in 2014 for pure greatness with a good combination of youth and older guys. MERRY CHRISTMAS....GO MEAN GREEN2 points

Brooks also said the competition he faced at Navarro was better than what he saw at North Texas. “The level of competition is nothing but players that didn’t have grades or SAT scores,” Brooks said. “Coming from North Texas that is uprising Division I program to junior college playing against people committed to Arkansas and South Florida, the level of competition is so much greater.” “I developed a whole new sense of awareness and passion for the game,” Brooks said. “The levels of talent got higher and it made me step my level of play up.” http://corsicanadailysun.com/sports/x2056565299/College-Football-Navarro-DT-Brooks-headed-to-Baylor2 points

You don't see a difference between a year with 14 TDs and 14 Ints versus a year (shortened by injuries) with 11 TDs and 6 Ints? I'm not really even sure what to say to that.2 points

I just don't really see how you're justifying that his numbers were down. He was nothing special the year before, we just handed the ball off more and he threw less interceptions. There's a reason his production isn't good, and that's because he lacks a lot of tools. Very weak arm, slow release, and not very athletic. People are scared that Berglund will be a bust or whatever, but there is no way he can be worse than Thompson IMO. Also he's athletic, so even if he isn't throwing great he can at least present a threat with his legs. Hopefully DT can be a serviceable backup, as long as he can just keep from turning the ball over if he ever has to go in. Like I've said before, the important thing for Berglund is that he improves, as Thompson was never able to. He has three years of eligibility so as long as he improves and we mold the team around him we will have a good chance to be successful in the upcoming years.2 points

Much has been said about our players needing to suck it up and run the system that Benford has put in place. Some have said that they look like they're pouting or not giving their all. Let me use a comparison that I've been thinking of for a few days. Let's imagine that the Sandy Hook situation wasn't an active shooter. Let's say, hypothetically, that it was a hostage situation. No shots fired. Just a man with a gun barricaded inside. Let's say that for ten years a SWAT sergeant has been in place. He's trained his troops on hostage rescue 101 and the first rule has always been "we don't force entry until there's an imminent loss of life." This has been his "system" the whole time. Every officer who has come under his command has lived by this "system". And it's led to massive success in recovering hostages. Now, let's say that a new sergeant has been hired. Let's say he arrives at Sandy Hook and orders his officers to breach the doors and neutralize the threat. And let's say his officers look at him with a "pouting" look. His handling of every hostage situation, arrest warrant and search warrant thus far has led to "losses". And let's say that one of the members of this SWAT team had the chance to join the FBI's elite tactical team last year but he stayed around to work on parts of his "game". Now, he realizes that when he storms into this school and the bullets start flying his opportunity with the FBI is gonna be gone because of the inevitable collateral damage. Do we tell them "follow the orders you're given and suck it up" or do we concede that maybe, just maybe, they're giving half-hearted compliance because they realize that this sergeant is way out of his depth? When lives are lost because of his "system", and there is no question they would be, do we just chalk that up to his troops not giving earnest effort? Let me tell you, that sergeant would be fired. And sued. And so would the department who put him in place...especially if the lieutenant who assigned him had a history of failed promotees. (Draw whatever parallels you wish)1 point

Southwest Roundup : North Texas Rebounds to Surprise Texas Tech Running back David McGinty raced 20 yards for a touchdown to cap a stunning second-half comeback Saturday night and propel North Texas State from a 24-10 halftime deficit to a 29-24 victory over Texas Tech at Lubbock, Tex. Quarterback Scott Davis, who scored once himself, guided the North Texas 63 yards in 6 plays and sent McGinty spinning around right end for the winning touchdown with 3:54 remaining. Davis sparked the pivotal drive with a 27-yard pass to split end Thomas Greene for the Eagles, ranked No. 5 in Division I-AA. Field goals of 51, 55 and 46 yards by Keith Chapman and a 46-yard touchdown run by linebacker Rex Johnson with an intercepted pass kept North Texas close until the Eagles' closing heroics stopped the favored Red Raiders. The comeback overshadowed a good performance by Texas Tech wingback Wayne Walker, who turned 2 passes into touchdowns and gave him a total of 184 yards on 5 receptions. "These kind of wins are so hard to come by for our football program," North Texas Coach Corky Nelson said. "It's not very often that we can go on the road and beat a Southwest Conference school with the tradition of Texas Tech." Nelson admitted Walker's electrifying touchdown in the opening seconds made it appear the Eagles were in fro a tough evening. But, Nelson said, the turning point may have come when cornerback Kim Phillips was put in to defend against Walker in the second half. Walker, after gaining 163 yards in catches in the first half, got only 21 the second half. Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes said that the Raiders had plenty of scoring opportunities but "just couldn't ring the bell."1 point

I was there. We collected tortillas thrown by Tech fans all night and threw them back after the win. As long as Scott Davis was in the game I always felt like we had a good chance to win. I'd like to have that feeling again. Soon. Frequently. GO MEAN GREEN1 point

I remember that night well. I was in deep East Texas by a tiny town called Minden with my car antenna connected to a clothes hanger which was in turn wrapped around an outside basketball hoop. KNTU would very weakly come in and out, but I still recall Bill Mercer's excitement when Tech failed to complete a final desperation pass to the end zone, thus insuring our victory. Fortunately, a few years later we began broadcasting on 100.7 (The Word?) and our football and basketball games came in loud and clear throughout that part of the state. Alas, we are no longer with that station and the one that replaced it is no more than a foolish redundancy of the weak KNTU signal when it comes to broadcasting games. I don't know why that change was made, but unless it was somehow unavoidable, it was a foolish decision. I have often thought that because it was a religious station that God was punishing us for dropping it. He does seem to be a bit peeved with us of late.1 point

The impression I got from TM on Thursday was that he was more disappointed when he'd miss a free throw, block, or reboound because of the scouts than the fact that the team was getting blown out. Zero leadership out of him.1 point

Seriously, I hope Tony Mitchell continues attending class just in case he stays another year. I understand that as the draft draws near, he may not be able to due to having to visit the teams and go through workouts. But hopefully he goes to class until he has more of an idea where he might go in the draft based on facts, not speculation of a few bloggers and scouts who really are not the decision makers for their team1 point

#1 If you were put in charge of a football program that had the kind of administrative support that North Texas has always been known for, wouldn't you drink too? #2. What was that quote from Abraham Lincoln when he was told that General Grant was a drunk?........1 point

I am not quite advocating for Benford to be fired - but your argument that the players just need to hit their shots, coaches are putting them in position but their kids aren't listening, etc can be used against every underperforming team ever. I don't think you were ever onboard with firing Dodge either for that matter.1 point
-
I don't think Benford should be fired at this point. He's figuring his shit out like the rest of the team. The problem I have is if a NBA scout can watch a game for 10 minutes and say, "Benford doesn't know how to use Mitchell.", It makes me wonder who else Benford doesn't know how to use. Getting Tony "touches" is not the same as getting him touches in his spot. I've seen him get "touches" at the top of the arch, and I'm going to bet that's not exactly where we'd want him to touch it on a possession. Does anyone on the team have a "spot" for that matter? Does anyone have an area where they are 50-80% effective that isn't at the free-throw line? Well, I haven't seen it. Is it because no one has their "spot"? (most players have at least a couple) They aren't getting to it (their spot) in the game? Or is it that Benford hasn't figured out where people are best and where to get them touches? Or is it that he pulls them before they get it going from one of their spots? The closest I've seen is Roger on his fade-away that has been fairly consistent. Alzee on his dribble drive that usually falls or draws a foul. How about some more dribble penetration from some guards to get Tony some space, or someone else to a spot. Hell if I know, I just would have thought that someone would have figured out something that works by now, especially a coach. You know, like Odufuwa/Trameil down low? Or Tristan on the top of the arc. Walton or Tyler Hall from deep. Josh white dribbling into the trees, or his floater at the top of the key that seemingly showed up every game. I hope they figure it out real soon, because I'll still make it to games, but it'd be a hell of a lot more fun to watch a competitive one than a boring one. Like most people here, I don't mind watching a loss in basketball, but it really bugs me when we aren't even in the game.1 point

With all due respect, there are a few on here, the vocal minority, that go ape shit over every little thing without using a dose of reality. It is nice to have some optimism around here for a change. I would expect nothing less from a player or his parents. By the way, many of us have been fans way before your nuts develop and dropped and see the positive change in this program. Last year was just a bump in the road.1 point

The comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I agree with you about the Greeks but I was truly hacked when, throughout the game, I could look between the student side and the wing zone and see forty people on the hill partying instead of being inside the stadium. Fraternities do good things for the university and the community but their leadership needs to start the party earlier and lead them all inside for the game. I was often reminded that the irresponsible act of one brother reflected not only on the fraternity but on the entire fraternity system.1 point

Other than Phillips shut down effort in the second half Keith ChaPmam hit three monster field goals,....someone correct me if I'm wrong.... want to say the distances were from 51, 48 and 46? This was the birth of our tortilla tradition captured and brought back to Denton. The Tech student section pelted our group all game long. But Mean Green faithful calmly collected them as the game progressed, and as soon as the final tick went off the clock proudly threw them back...in their faces! Rick1 point

I agree with you, but let me ask you this... What if Berglund is one of those players that can change an entire team? Cam Newton did it with Auburn. They were nothing the year before him or every year after he left. If we can get some one to light a fire under the ass of the rest of the team with some big plays, then we can really come around. Berglund could be that guy.1 point

I wish I knew enough about basketball to know which of these arguments is valid, and I do not pretend to know. It sure seems to me, however, that for such an unprecedented abundance of talent, we seem to have a most peculiar lack of success.1 point
