Nothing further enhances the point that everyone posting here has no idea what they are talking about than a fan missing one of the oldest cliched references to a Calipari-coached program and getting butt-hurt about it. Masterfully played, Kram.3 points

I was talking about Kentucky players not going to class NCAA allows only 4 hours of practice per day , so I really doubt anyone is having 3 a days... but of course we are talking about Kentucky , it's not like they play by the rules3 points

Comparison implies the two are comparable. Analogy implies that a similar lesson can be gleaned from two things...however divergent they may be. When someone takes action prematurely we say they've "jumped the gun". Are we really saying that they're in the starting blocks of a track and field event? Ever heard the phrase "throwing the baby out with the bath water"? Are there really children being discarded out of tubs?3 points

If you'll note, or if you'd simply read, you'd recognize that the analogy purposely avoids actual bloodshed and presents a scenario that is different. And, even if you still find that to be in "poor taste", you're a bit too hyper-sensitive. Reading what I wrote and honestly believing that I'm drawing a parallel between the gravity of the two subjects is beyond stupid. As someone who has actually trained to combat the real thing, and not just sat on my couch or behind my keyboard espousing just how shocked or mortified I am, I'd like to say I'm amused that this is what some of you took away from this...I'd like to say it if the conclusion you drew wasn't, again, so stupid. I've been the one to breach that door, pushed my way into the unknown, and I know even better than all of you "highly offended" peanut gallery members that death and carnage aren't the same as basketball. Again, how stupid.3 points

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/midlands/post?id=8346 Junior college defensive tackle Terrell Brooks (Corsicana, Texas/Navarro College) verbally committed to Baylor last week. Whether or not he signs with the Bears in February is still to be determined.2 points

Another jump on Thompson thread. I think there is a very good chance that Thompson will be the starter next year. Most hope not, because we want Berglund to be the elusive star QB that NT hasn't had in ages. He may be, but we are putting a lot of hope in a player that hasn't played since HS. Thompson has not shown to be the type of QB that wins games, NT should not win. However, his cast of receivers were not fb level and QB is far from the only position that lacked last year. So I hope there is a lot of QB competition, don't discount Mc's favorite McNulty to battle along with Berglund and Thompson. It should be at least competition, unlike last year, and whoever is chosen should have a better year than last.2 points

Younger....middle Trussbuss. 6'4", 180 DE. Target weight for fall is 210-220. Sounds like a lot, but Martins strength coach put 30 lbs on big Trussbuss in 4 months with diet and lifting. (there is some girth in the family) Middle Buss will be a jr this upcoming year. Only 15 will not be 16 till 7/4 so he is young for his age. Will be a busy summer getting him to camps. Martin has a history of making some pretty good DE's....hope it rubs off.2 points

It's not outrageous if you know what emmitt does for a living. It's just a poor analogy. Isn't the first on this board, won't be the last.2 points

This is how it goes EVERY year.... December to beginning of February...Everyone talks about how great our recruits look on film, how ratings services are overhyped and how our coaching staff will do amazing things for their strength and potential. February...Commitments come in and we dedicate no less than ten threads to where these freshmen and JUCO's will slide right into the two deep. March to August...Every time a group of players steps into a weight room or tweets how good they feel in off-season workouts we label them as being "a beast next year" or comment on how they look so much bigger/faster than last year. We herald the coming of a bowl team all the way through spring ball and then sing praises about either our offense or defense during the spring game...whichever happens to win that particular day. In fall practice we'll complain about how we're not allowed to watch practice but we'll also act as if football was just recently invented at North Texas if a youtube video of them lifting weights or hitting eachother is leaked. August...the season record predictions will really take off. The usual suspects will rationalize just how we can stay on the field with...insert body bag game here...and how we should be able to win at least 6-8 games because of...insert new player/improved player or coach here. September...A large crowd will show up to watch the home opener and, if tradition holds, we'll lay an egg. Those people will spend the rest of the season drinking on the hill. We'll muddle through our OOC games and at least one of them will result in a loss that we'll lament for the rest of the season. October through November...Everyone will predict that "none of our opponents could be as tough as...insert BCS school here...so we'll have a better feel for where we stand". After playing .500 ball or slightly below we'll whimper to the finish line and the rallying cries of "next year" will ring from the mountain tops. And then the process begins anew...2 points

I just couldn't get through that....linking Sandy Hook in any way to Basketball is just a bit much for me.2 points

Please give it up already... Its getting old. We get it. You are envious because you cannot coach a basketball team so you resort to screaming on the sidelines. Benford has messed up nothing for Tony. Tony has not hustled. You should have seen the scouts when Mitchell just sat there as 42 went up for the dunk over him. That is Mitchel not Benford. Stick to screaming at the refs during games an let Benford do his job.2 points

Southwest Roundup : North Texas Rebounds to Surprise Texas Tech Running back David McGinty raced 20 yards for a touchdown to cap a stunning second-half comeback Saturday night and propel North Texas State from a 24-10 halftime deficit to a 29-24 victory over Texas Tech at Lubbock, Tex. Quarterback Scott Davis, who scored once himself, guided the North Texas 63 yards in 6 plays and sent McGinty spinning around right end for the winning touchdown with 3:54 remaining. Davis sparked the pivotal drive with a 27-yard pass to split end Thomas Greene for the Eagles, ranked No. 5 in Division I-AA. Field goals of 51, 55 and 46 yards by Keith Chapman and a 46-yard touchdown run by linebacker Rex Johnson with an intercepted pass kept North Texas close until the Eagles' closing heroics stopped the favored Red Raiders. The comeback overshadowed a good performance by Texas Tech wingback Wayne Walker, who turned 2 passes into touchdowns and gave him a total of 184 yards on 5 receptions. "These kind of wins are so hard to come by for our football program," North Texas Coach Corky Nelson said. "It's not very often that we can go on the road and beat a Southwest Conference school with the tradition of Texas Tech." Nelson admitted Walker's electrifying touchdown in the opening seconds made it appear the Eagles were in fro a tough evening. But, Nelson said, the turning point may have come when cornerback Kim Phillips was put in to defend against Walker in the second half. Walker, after gaining 163 yards in catches in the first half, got only 21 the second half. Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes said that the Raiders had plenty of scoring opportunities but "just couldn't ring the bell."1 point

The comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I agree with you about the Greeks but I was truly hacked when, throughout the game, I could look between the student side and the wing zone and see forty people on the hill partying instead of being inside the stadium. Fraternities do good things for the university and the community but their leadership needs to start the party earlier and lead them all inside for the game. I was often reminded that the irresponsible act of one brother reflected not only on the fraternity but on the entire fraternity system.1 point

Nope..always good to point the finger at those responsible rather than making excuses for them because they are "kids", and then placing the blame on someone else. This "they are just kids" stuff is pretty lame. Even for someone who wants to place the blame every where else except on the ones actually responsible for executing what the coach is asking them to do. But, they are just kids..... Look, I have said that it appears Benford is making a few rookie mistakes, but the idea that te way this team is playing is all on him is simply wrong. No one gets a pass here. Time for everyone associated with that team to get this figured out. They have the ability to do so...remains to be seen if they will.1 point

I think Robinson "chose" to leave because he was gently pushed out the door. Odoh was recruited by JJ, so his leaving for LSU was a no brainer unless we had continued to block LSU and TB had come through with the necessary persuasion. Norris is still a young unknown. I saw him play more than once in high school and he has skills to play at this level IMO. Certainly our current level.1 point

Semi-pro. Several UNT players and coaches played...owner's son actually played at UNT as I recall. Remember, the UNT men's team was pretty darn good. I recall one year UNT was invited to play in SMU's tournament. Obviously, SMU thought UNT would be an easy W. well, as fate would have it...UNT won the whole thing. Best time in the world sitting outside after the tournament with several of the team members while the SMU team strolled by....they were pretty down while we were enjoying several cold ones and a tourney win. I recall Coach David Hudgell chewing the team out Big Time during the halftime of the first game. I guess it worked! Good times, good memories!1 point

Pretty sure myself and my fraternity brothers have been to more UNT sporting events than 95% of non greek students at UNT. Ive also traveled to Clemson, LSU, Houston, Hot Springs, Oklahoma City, and I plan to make the trip to Georgia and other C USA away games. Greek life does more for UNT athletics than a lot of people think.1 point

The problem is the Big East tv deal is going to be worth more than the MWC tv deal. The real question fro Boise is what value do they place on keeping their other sports in the same conference and giving their fans games they care about. Boise is going to have the same access to the playoffs/BCS no matter what conference they are in so it's a matter of do they take the Big East money over a regional home. If I'm the Broncos I'd stay in the Mountain West. But neither conference should gave an give them their home tv rights. Waive entry fees, pay exit fees. But the Big 12 has shown us what happens with unequal tv rights deals.1 point

NT is shooting horribly but a lot of that is the offense they are attempting to run. It is basically the same team as last year who also didn't shoot particularly well. Team fg% last year was .434 versus this year .321., three shooting last year .321, this year a truly awful .232. Jones, Mitchell, A. Williams, and J. Williams are all shooting substantially worse than last year. I am not sure how you can support the theory that it not a coaching issue either in the scheme or coaching. Only Holmen who is almost exactly shooting what he did last year has not regressed. I do wonder about Benford excuses; Walton and Taylor his best outside shooters are out. Taylor was never in, and Walton who did lead the team last year in the number of threes and shoot .367% from outside the circle. I am not sure Waltons average of 1.6 threes a game can be a big factor in the team overall lack of expected performance. I noticed when Patton couldn't play, Benford bemoaned the lack of his best defender; yet he now seldom plays. Likewise he had the answer at center, who also seldom plays. Now it is the lack of outside defenders, always some deficiency with the team he proclaimed could be in play for a top 25 status. There is always a chance Benford can turn this team around, but anyone that doesn't think coaching hasn't been a problem hasn't been watching. Shooting is a matter of confidence and this team is really lacking that at this point.1 point

I love pity parties! I'm with you Trussbussdad. Even though it hurts like hell sometimes to be a North Texas fan, I believe that we have a pretty good core coming back next season along with new QB who has tons of potential. My biggest concern is WR. I hope some of those redshirts are pushing themselves to get better with the mindset to contribute next year.1 point

Other than Phillips shut down effort in the second half Keith ChaPmam hit three monster field goals,....someone correct me if I'm wrong.... want to say the distances were from 51, 48 and 46? This was the birth of our tortilla tradition captured and brought back to Denton. The Tech student section pelted our group all game long. But Mean Green faithful calmly collected them as the game progressed, and as soon as the final tick went off the clock proudly threw them back...in their faces! Rick1 point

Corky Nelson was probably drunk during most of the 2nd half, but damn I loved it when he was coaching. You felt like NT had a shot at beating just about anybody including the Longwhorns and their paid off refs. Booze was like some sort of Underdog Pill for Corky. I am related to one of the players and yes they have been practicing on game days. Not shooting around, full practice. From what I've been told that is going to cease. They will just shoot around. Alzee and Tony did not start because they were late to practice. Its not Benford the team is just having issues within themselves. They are having to readjust to a whole new coaching staff who are trying to put structure and discipline into them that was not there before. This team was overhyped. I am dissappointed with this season as well but I am a true fan and things will turn around but just not fast enough for some. #"growingpains"1 point

I wish I knew enough about basketball to know which of these arguments is valid, and I do not pretend to know. It sure seems to me, however, that for such an unprecedented abundance of talent, we seem to have a most peculiar lack of success.1 point

"They weren’t out-hustling our guys. They just executed better. When you know where to go and make decisive moves it looks quick. It looks fast. It looks like desire and hunger. It really is just a better coached team doing what they do." And bingo was his name-o.1 point

Looking forward to your boy contributing next year sir, but you're directing this exhortation at the wrong group of people. Look at it this way: Everyone on GMG.com is on the 'wagon'. We've just been here long enough to remember the smooth, expeditious rides this wagon used to provide us. Now that the wheels are out of alignment, and have been for the past 8 years, we're developing hemorrhoids and we're all cranky, but, by golly, it's OUR wagon and we will ride 'til we die. Let's not even consider the other wagon we ride during basketball season. Our thoroughbred horse pulling that wagon was purchased away by a bigger wagon owner, and we had to replace him with a 3-legged horse with a concussion and explosive diarrhea. Every few nights, we get sprayed. I'm sure you understand.1 point
