Anytime I think about taking Andrew seriously, I should quote this post.6 points

Love the way we "excuse" illegal activity these days with "they are young", "young folks do stupid things", "it's no big deal", etc., etc. You know...the folks that had their items stolen probably don't think it's no big deal and could not care less how young they are. The fact that these scholarship athletes representing UNT thought nothing more about it all than to steal is a BIG DEAL in my mind. From a legal standpoint, sure, not a 1st degree felony or anything near that, but reflects a very serious lack of judgement and lack of respect from themselves and for the university and team they represent. Not saying this ranks up there with the "serial killers of the world" or anywhere near it, but it is a big deal. And, it points to some VERY poor decision making. Sorry if I disagree but around my house and with my kids this would have been a VERY big deal. Somehow I think mac and the university might see it as a fairly big deal as well...even if the scale of the matter is not so big from a strictly legal standpoint. I know, I know..."boys will be boys".5 points

Eesh about time shomeone hired my shun. He'sh a very good head coash and he'll surely have a great bit of shuccshess at Louishiana Tech.4 points

This is clearly RV's, the entire athletic department, Coach Benford and their tutors fault... no way should we blame these poor innocent kids.4 points

A Class B misdemeanor. If they plead no contest they'll very likely face probation and a bit of community service. Seeing as this website tells us nothing about how this transpired I'll reserve preparing the gallows. Which is not to say this is excusable.4 points

We are the place for kids who dunk and are athletic but can't shoot. On a side note, I can't believe the Boleware kid doesn't have a single offer. I wouldn't expect a high major to be interested, but no offers? Really? Leading scorer for Seguin in this game. EDIT: Man, is this game ugly. Looks like the playground out there.4 points

So, you come here and pick on UNT fans and you brag about it on KillerFrogs? Get a life and leave the UNT fans alone. You are just sad...4 points

We are in no position to be a "decider" as it currently stands. We've done what we were supposed to do and that's trying to align ourselves with regional schools that our fans can come to care about. Tulane bolted. That sucks. But we can't help that. Now, with the demise of the BE (did anyone not associated with SMU or Houston NOT see this coming?) we are on the verge of potentially seeing UTEP and Tulsa go away as well. And this worries many of you. Me, not so much. Not because I wouldn't LOVE to stay in a conference with these schools, or hell even SMU or Houston for that matter. But because I still see a pot of gold where this rainbow ends...even if Tulsa and UTEP defect. Really Emmitt? Yes, really. And here's why. THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS STUPID. It's really about that simple. If we walk into a CUSA that is on life support we are still walking into CUSA from the Sun Belt. To the people who we want to attend our games, the uneducated general public, this alone is an upgrade. And, even if CUSA is only Sun Belt 2.0, if you've replaced ULM, Troy and South Alabama with Rice, La Tech and UTSA you have made an upgrade...both in terms of "hey, I've heard of them" and in terms of opposing fans walking through the gates of Apogee. Make no mistake, I acknowledge that the step up is a minimal one...but I'm just done fretting over things that WE CANNOT CONTROL. Does this mean that I think RV, Lane Rawlins, etc should stop working the phones? Hell no. But, worst case scenario if they simply sit back on their laurels (however tarnished they now are) we are gonna be better off than we were to start 2012.3 points

Looks like he killed his mother and father as well. Just makes you wonder what the reasoning is/was behind this. One thing that frustrates me as someone else pointed out earlier, is all the talk of how this could've been prevented. Lock down the schools, mental health care system, gun control. etc etc. There is not an answer. If someone wants to do something like this there isn't much that will be able to stop them. Sucks to say3 points

One comment on ABC news was that this is the worst shooting incident like this in US history. I know that reporters have to report. And that information is their main commodity. But the fact that we keep score and have a ranking on things like this is one of the saddest commentaries about our society that I've ever heard.3 points

Denton PD is racist...most of the arrested are white folk. Where is Jesse Jackson when you need him?3 points

I know most programs have to deal with stuff like this every year... Still seems shocking that kids with scholarships to play ball don't realize they have more to lose than other kids at that same age. Who knows what the real story is. I hope for their sakes(and mine as a small small contributor to their scholarship money) they can learn from this and be better people going forward.3 points

Somewhere there is a line between positivity and unrealistic assessments. And calling JJ chicken around these parts isn't going to do you any favors.3 points

I live in Newtown. This is utterly devastating. The entire community is numb and in shock. All the schools were in lock down for several hours. My daughters were at two different schools. One was in gym class and they ushered them all into a storage room, locked the doors and turned out the lights. She spent over two hours in complete darkness - the kind of darkness where you can't see your hand in front of your face. They had no idea what was going on until they were finally let out. Just a horrific day for our town. Say prayers for the families.2 points

After reading a book about Columbine 13 years after the fact, I can tell you that half of what the news media says about stuff like this will be incorrect. And yes, the shooter probably played violent video games but guess what, so do 90% of males his age. Correlation =/ causation2 points

BREAKING NEWS WITH THIS MOST SERIOUS MWC INTERVIEW ABOUT EXPANSION!2 points
-
Really wish the media would stop identifying the shooters in these instances. In a society that teaches it's young that everything is about getting your 15 minutes of fame, this only provides a path for the mentally unstable to get their 15 minutes. We don't need to know a name, especially if the shooter is dead.2 points

Heard the news on the Ticket. They said shooting at an elementary school before they said Connecticut. Knowing how much they focus almost solely on local events, and briefly forgetting that my child is now in middle school, complete, irrational fear sank in for a couple seconds. I can't imagine the horror of dropping your kid off at school and getting this news. For those parents, the world did indeed just end in 2012. I would be irreparably inconsolable. Horrible, horrible.2 points

So none of the BE basketball-only schools are money grubbing whores? The way I see it, the Basketball whores screwed the football whores while they were in a position to do so.2 points

All true... still not acceptable. I hope they're suspended for Idaho (at least). Mac doesn't seem to be OK with criminal activity, just ask Stockovich.2 points

I think Andrew is unfamiliar with a lot of things basketball. I know he doesn't know one friggin thing about Belmont basketball. Other than the MTSU game, a terrible night for the Belt.2 points

Look at who we have offered. Maybe that will make you feel better until you realize they are signing with the Oklahoma States, Utahs, etc... of the world. So where does that leave us? Finding these players that can develop and grow into the players we need. Just the way it is.2 points

UTSA is an upgrade over nothing.

UTSA is an upgrade alone in the fact that NT gets exposure in a market that doesn't even know where NT is. That, and I get to see the Mean Green play in SA. UTSA gets a hell of a lot of attention here. I'm not jazzed about being in a conference with them either, but belly aching about it now is pointless.2 points

Eh, I don't. Hamilton really was not as big an asset to us these past two years as people think. Napoli will be a bigger loss but even he didn't have a great year. Good production for a catcher though. And Michael Young had one of the worst offensive seasons of any everyday position player in the AL last year. Giving him at bats just because he was Michael Young was getting really old to me. We'll be fine. Yu is starting to establish himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball. He misses more bats than almost any other pitcher. Profar could be a ROY candidate and Beltre was by far our best offensive player last year, so we'll just have to wait and see.2 points

It looks there are two things that could kill the Big East: 1. Will the ACC or Big 12 take any more teams? We all know the Big 12 is hoping for Florida St and a friend, but now might be the time to make a play for Boise or Cincy. The ACC could also take UConn and USF. 2. Will the new Big East tv deal be better for Boise than what they get with the MWC? The depleted Big East tv deal is probably going to be worth more than the MWC deal, but will it be bottom line a better deal given increased travel expense and spliting up Olympic sports. If either of these things happen, SDSU will go to the MWC, everyone else will go CUSA. T1 point

That the Big East basketball only schools may have destroyed the money-grubbing whores of college football's Big East Conference. Good for the basketball schools.1 point

FroggyStyle probably lives with his Mom at home and curls up with his Justin Bieber posters and dolls for "fun". Thus the need to work so hard for attention.1 point

You left out the biggest thing. The Catholic 7 leaving and taking the name with them. That's what's going to kill the Big East, everything after that is more of a what to do with the remains1 point

I miss having x-and-o talk since Benford arrived. I'm glad for your optimism, but right now people are still trying to figure out what Benford's system is. I'm looking forward to this "splash" you speak of.1 point

I bet in the conference by-laws there are ways to kick schools out. There is probably a process like the Big East followed to kick out Temple. Majority type vote to put a school on notice/action plan. Super majority to actually kick them out. As much as people are knee jerking and saying throw the newest guys out, remember by CUSA taking swift action on replacement it boxed the other conferences in.1 point

I would love to be in a conference with Houston, but SMU can die on the vine for all I care.1 point

Here's the deal. JJ no matter what easy schedule he used was able to coach his players to be ready. Seton Hall went to the NIT last year. JJ plays them this year W, UNT loses to UAH, UTA (in know JJ lost to UTA), but with Tony Mitchell, CJ, JW's I doubt JJ would have lost. This is a truly critical year for UNT and to this point we've blown it. Based on what I've seen and read this has to be on the coaches. Only reason I reference JJ like I've side in the "fire him" post we I have to have point of reference to judge Benford, by. That reference just happens to be JJ!! LSU plays Boise State tonight on the road. Go Mean Green!!!1 point
-
But Johnny Jones doing well at LSU only adds fuel to our fire Benford ideas!!1 point
-
Agree. Would love to have played that schedule, but you are correct when you say UNT coaches would know much of nothing about the team at this point if it had. Also agree with you about JJ...loved the guy, but he is now at LSU. Wish him nothing but the best at LSU, but JJ is no longer at UNT. Funny how many were bashing JJ about schedules while he was at UNT, now he gets praises for the scheduling of weak sisters. Time will tell. For me...I hope both JJ and Coach Benford turn out to be "coaches of the Year" in their respective conferences...if not this year than the next. See you at the Pit for a UNT win Sunday!1 point
-
did you look at the schedule??? I mean really. First six games at home against one of the easiest schedules I have ever seen. With the exception of Seton Hall, who have they played. We could very well be 6-0 with that schedule also, and we would know nothing about our team. Let's check back in with this after the Marquette game and see how he is doing. This is the same smoke and mirrors Johnny used while he was here. Don't get me wrong, I loved me some Johnny Jones, but we have played both Creighton and St. Louis on the road. They haven't even played a road game yet a month into the season. This comparison is just not fair.1 point

Napoli got a silly big contract. MY had to go to make room for Profar. Josh and his chicken s attitude needed to be removed from the room. It sucks that Josh went to the Angels.... But that quitter needed to go.1 point

The Catholic 7 made up 3/4 of what was left of the Big East until the new members joined July 1. There are only 6 leaving CUSA so unless they get some of the left behind to support them they don't have the votes. I think that right, but this is very confusing. The one think for certain is a group of lawyers is going to make a lot of money off of all this.1 point

They're gone dude. At least Cincy and UCONN. As soon as that ACC offer comes they're gone.1 point

Today alone, Dane averaged 35.5ppg. After 7 games, Dane is averaging 29ppg, 7rpg, 5apg and 3spg.1 point
