  1. Here's the video I shot and edited back in the day while I worked at The Center for Media Production at UNT. The 10th anniversary of the 2002 New Orleans Bowl win over Cincinnati is on Dec. 17th. It was a good time in New Orleans so relive the memories!

  2. That "Lock the Gates" team of Chico's was the best UNT has seen since Dickey's last Belt Champion. Fact, no question.

  3. People can talk all they want about the Sunbelt's rapid improvement.... That team would have domintated every single year of it's existence.

  4. Reminds me of a story about the frog that wanted to get to the other side of the pond but was too tired to swim. A cotton mouth snake offered the frog a ride on his back but the frog initally resisted saying" you are a poisonous snake, and will bite and kill me". "No I won't ", said the snake. "I promise". So the frog got on the snake's back. Sure enough when they got to the middle of the pond the snake bit the frog. As he was dying, the frog said"but you promised". "Yes said the cotton mouth, but you knew I was a snake when you got on my back". The End.

  7. I don't think I envy WKU for hiring Petrino. If we use basketball as a parrallel, as bad as the season has gone so far, I think I would still rather have Benford than Billy Gillespie.

  9. I think Chico may be a better head coach than offensive coordinator. The run they had post-Dodge was fun.

  12. I feel exactly the same way. See what #JohnnyFootball did for A&M? And they got a new coach and that is doing wonders for their recruiting. We have to win though. Winning = Better recruits. I trust in Mac.

  14. Petrino may win there, but I promise you that it won't end well when he leaves in 2 or 3 years for another job or because he has another motorcycle accident with another girlfriend. That guy is as sorry an individual as we have ever seen as a head coach. Just ask Louisville fans, Atlanta Falcons fans, and Arkansas fans. And, sadly, he's been the head coach at 4 places now withing the last decade. So much for staying power...

  15. You think Petrino was a good hire for WKU? Oh Lord. UT hated Harsin, too.

  16. It's never a good idea to come to this board and ask the audience if you're crazy. The answer might be no. But considering how many certifiable people there are that regularly post on this board............

  17. Both of these kids are marginal prospects. THe Georgetown kid cant hit anyone in stride and doesn't look to have the arm strength to play at the college level, at least by that video. And those are the highlights. The Panhandle kid seems like someone you may take a flyer on as an athlete, but if no one else is offering, there is probably a reason. It's funny how people gripe that we offer kids with only FCS offers, and then want to run out and offer kids with zero offers, even from FCS.

  23. What makes that team so special is that many of the guys on that defense could be argued as some of the all-time NT greats at their position. If only we had an offense during that run that was just a little more dynamic

  27. So if the BBall schools leave the Big East...football schools are basically screwed, right? They'd have to go elsewhere? Or do you think they'd actually stay and try to take more CUSA/MAC/WAC/MWC teams?

  28. Thanks for posting the video. That was a very good team. Those were four enjoyable years. It is sad to think that two years from then the magic was gone and our program began to sink to the depths where we are now.

  33. 2002: quarterbacks coach at N.C. State- 39th in total offense, 35th in passing offense, 19th in passing efficiency 2007: OC/quarterbacks coach at USF- 43rd in total offense 2008: OC/quarterbacks coach at USF- 32nd in total offense, 37th in pass efficiency 2009: Starting QB (senior, four year starter) went down in the third game of the season and was lost for the season - coached the career big east yards leader for his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons - coached phillip rivers for two seasons - coached B.J. Daniels for one season (freshman). Compare Daniels' numbers under Chico as a freshman compared to what he did under new coaches the rest of his career: 2009 (under Chico): 54% 2000 passing yards 800 rushing yards 23 TDs 9 INTs 139.5 rating 2010: 58% 1700 passing yards 300 rushing yards 16 TDs 13 INTs 120.3 rating 2011: 59% 2600 passing yards 600 rushing yards 19 TDs 7 INTs 126.7 rating 2012: 57% 2100 passing yards 400 rushing yards 19 TDs 10 INTs 126.0 rating Daniels' best year was his freshman season under Chico. Read Matt Grothe's Facebook wall (I am not friends with him on there, yet can still see his wall so you should be able to, also). He wanted Chico to be the HC at USF last week (as did many other former players who started a petition). Chico is a solid OC. What so many fans (and, unfortunately for Chico, ADs) don't understand is that many elite coordinators do not have what it takes to be an elite head coach. Likewise, many elite head coaches aren't necessarily going to be elite coordinators. Anyone who has played under Chico, coached with Chico, or knows him well is able to tell you that he has what it takes to be a great head coach.

  34. Another thread stolen but yes, Bowen is more impressive than Hubenak. The Georgetown quarterback is a pocket passer due to speed. He's effective but less of a threat with the type of offense that we are running.

  46. Petrino is a heck of a coach, but he has no business working in a job as a leader of young men with the kind of character issues that he brings. Between his dumb mistake at Arkansas, lying to his AD about it, and the gutless way that he left the Falcons, he is really a sleazeball. Say what you will about Dodge and McCarney, at least they are men with decent character.

  48. Yeah, let's fire the coach after two seasons and pay out three years of his contract. We are stockpiled with cash!! Sounds like a terrific idea--I bet we could get Saban to replace him, too!!

  49. Part of our problem may just be marketing and promotion. I don't ever recall seeing ads in either the DMN or Star telegram promoting or advertising our football or basketball games. There are UNT billboards around town from time to time, but they are generally lackluster and uninspiring, as are our pathetic promos during televised games. Other schools do a much better job in this area. (Texas State for one.) It has always seemed odd to me that North Texas was competing in sports long before such schools as Texas Tech, Houston and even SMU existed and yet, except for brief little periods of success every decade or so, we simply have not been consistently successful. We certainly have not developed the kind of fan base one would expect from the alumni we have in the Dallas- Ft worth area alone. I also think we missed a great opportunity for fan support by not even attempting promote and take advantage of the "A" Train inauguration when Apogee opened. More about that later.
