  1. Maybe I'm alone, but I don't really care about our conference anymore. I used to care. I really did. I used to think it mattered. Realignment and its tradition-and-geography-be-damned money grab has broken me. Now I'm reading articles linked to Texas Monthly about the importance of the UTSA and Texas State rivalry- two teams that are in their infancy at this level (one, at ANY level). I just want to win. Just fill up that fancy new bad-ass stadium and watch some good football. The rest? It's whatever.

  2. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaab--louisville-s-move-to-acc-a-sporting-miracle-192050157.html Story of AD Jurich taking a program in shambles in the late 1990s, then leading it to eventual place in ACC. You'll read similarities to us - bad football stadium, reputation as commuter school, etc. Hard to digest in some ways; but, congrats to them, I guess.

  8. It isn't that the cupboard is/was bare. There is ample talent. The problem (IMO) is that we have some whiny little bitches for players right now that are refusing to play together as a team. I agree that it is ultimately Coach Benford's responsibility to either get it resolved or put someone else in to do the job. I'm not convinced that Tony and CJ/Jordan need to spend a lot of time on the floor at the same time for most of the game. Our most gifted athletes may not work best when they are all on the floor at the same time because they most certain don't appear to want to work together. If keeping these little girls separated doesn't work, amputation might be next.

  12. In reading Vito's latest blog entry, he said NT is bringing in a JUCO safety to compete with Trice for the starting job. I understand telling players that they can come in and compete for a staring job, but when you bring in a JUCO, especially a guy with McCarney's philosophy in recruiting HS guys, you're bringing him in to start. My question is with all the holes we have, are we really worried about Trice? I thought he had a pretty damn good year.

  13. Here's what I'd like to see happen today. TCU v OU- Ordinarily I'd pull for the frogs because they are still, kinda, a "little guy". In honesty they'll ALWAYS be viewed as the kid brother by OU, UT, etc (and everyone outside of Ft Worth). Ever since FroggyStyle has shown up though I've wished for TCU to get blown out every time they step on the field (outside of Austin). Also, an OU win ensures that K-State has to put their best foot forward later to win the Big XII. So, I'm hoping for 50-7 OU. Tulsa v UCF- For now Tulsa is a future conference mate. So, I'll pull for staying CUSA vs. leaving CUSA. Georgia v Bama- I think the winner of this game will win the MNC. And I don't really feel one way or another about either team. Since aTm beat Bama though I'm gonna pull for them so that the Aggies win looks better. UT v K-State- Hopefully the Wildcats come out and put this game away in the first quarter. I hope for Klein to have 2 TD's on the ground and 3 through the air. 45-10 would suit me just fine. Nebraska v Wisconsin- I pulled for Nebraska as a kid during the Tommie Frazier/Lawrence Phillips era. I have no connection to Wisconsin. Plus, I pull for any team that left the Big XII. So, I'll take the Huskers.

  14. Aplin was 19-21, 238 yards, 3 TD's. There's more. 6 carries for 64 yards and 1 TD. Why would we want him? The question is, why can't UNT recruit and sign QB's like Aplin?

  17. You wont have LB's covering WR's once you have enough quality depth at DB to run nickel packages etc. Going after a juco safety was not an indictment against Trice.

  20. While I am certainly not the biggest fan of Mr. Holmen, I am starting to think he needs more minutes. He's our best 3-point shooter(I know, scary), so other teams as least have to think about staying close to him on the perimeter. When he's not on the floor, the other team can double and triple Tony more easily, because they don't have to worry about leaving a shooter open. This isn't ideal, because I don't feel great about Holmen, but it is what it is. Until someone else starts making jumpers, he should be getting extra PT.

  21. If Holeman is not open for a shot he is a liability. I don't know if it matters much who starts since Benford substitutes every minute. Not a Coleman fan but I would like to see more of him at the 5 with TM at the 4. (Just to see what we have). Would like to see more of Overlander against zone defenses. (especially when the other guys aren't hitting) Like you, I would GIVE the starting point guard position to Hardwich. The offense seems to flow smoother with him than Jones. He's not going to score much but I think he is better getting the ball to the scorers better. With Chris, the other guys aren't sure what he is going to do. Don't know if Patton is totally back but I would like see more of him Hardwick Alzee Patton Mitchell Coleman

  25. I know this info or data does not fit our narrative and won't ever be on any present UNT athletic types resumes, but during 3 of our bowl years future SBC members Troy AND FAU beat us in each of those 3 years. So if those 2 future SBC schools had been in the SBC when they beat us, well, uh, CHANGE THE SUBJECT NOW.......................sunshine, lollypops and ? ? ? ? ? ?

  26. I love that Oiler derrick, Eagle1855. I digress (again) but I once watched Billy Cannon, George Blanda, Don Floyd (ex TCU great), Charlie Tolar, Charlie Hennigan...enuf..... all wearing that helmet in old Robertson (then known as Jeppessen) Stadium. Wonder when UH has their implosion ceremony of that stadium if they haven't already? 2 things to build on in CUSA if we don't go get lucky like we did in CUSA only because of our location (hardly our athletic records of the last 10 years) and when it was a desired conference to be in and our hopefully getting invited to MWC because of (once again) our locatiom. Lest all have already forgotten a TCU football team went to a Rose Bowl as a full fledged member of the MWC). (1) Apogee Stadium: The best of all the new recently built stadiums of the SBC and CUSA from all accounts. Thanks UNT students whose referendum finally passed after a 2'nd attempt, then its passage allowing Apogee to be financed. Also...............thanks HKS architect firm and the BOR's who approved them to design it and not make it another erector set type of stadium which seems popular in Florida. (2). Rice U: The Owls athletic program gives us a trip to Houston every other year in football and basketball which we've never had such a luxury to the Bayou City on a regular basis. Not even in the old Mo' Valley days did we have that since UH was leaving that league as we were joining it. Still, this re-alignment business ain't over with and may never be over with as all the former non-AQ conferences continue to re-arrange the deck chairs according to which schools they think they belong with the most no matter if some of those schools have a football fan base of about 500 like 2 private universities now in the Big East. I guess the crumbs left behind by the NCAA power-brokers even have different levels of quality and what makes most of us want better crumbs. Why not since upward mobility has been a definite trait of most all the taxpayers of this country since its very beginnings. GMG!

  28. This. At this point in their basketball careers they can either shoot or they can't. Not saying there aren't other aspects of their game that could effectively compensate for a weak shot... I'm saying that if your having to re-coach a college sophomore on how to shoot the basketball I doubt shooting will ever develop into a strong suit...

  29. Agree...who is responsible for that? Was it JJ's fault last year and now Benford's or do the players take responsibility for their low percentage shooting? Let's all just hope these guys find their collective shots and find them soon. Time to get our shooter in the game and see if he can shake the cobwebs...that's Overlander...that kid can shoot...and I think he will for the Mean green, but in order to shoot you have to get some playing time NOW...please and thank you. Worth a try in my book....it might at least make the opposing team guard the outside a bit. Who knows.....the phantom knows!!!!!

  34. We could have the best pass rush in the country but when we are covering WR's with LB's and they are wide open in two seconds it gives no time for the pass rush to get there. The longer the cover players can hold up, the longer it gives for the rush to get there, just like the quicker the rush can get there the less time the cover players have to hold up. Both area's need improvement.

  39. Someone doesn't get the bit. I think everyone here would probably agree that Scott's basketball IQ is probably higher than Tony's, or that he's really more of a coach out there on the floor bench, just seems like he goes into every game determined to get by on pure grit and stick-to-it-ness... It just seems like Benford's out there on the bench trying to get by on instincts and adrenaline.

I have my opinion, and I have as much right as anyone to defend it....I think my opinion has merit and I staying with it...tight panties or not, and since you care about my panties so much, I'll ask you to get your nose out of them. Why do you care if my panties are tight? My opinion might be different from some others...it is obvious you have zero of any substance to add....you might want to review Army of Dad, UNT90 and Emmitt's responses to my posts to see how nature people respond. Or you can check out GreenBat, FFR and your response to see how not to do it.

  43. Really? So no loss is ever on the players? Interesting perspective. If the players don't care enough to even act like they care...in my book that's on them. I guess we disagree...that's OK as I know we are all frustrated and disappointed right now. But, lose to LaLa and lose with no heart as this team did this evening and things may really get interesting. No, I am not giving up on this team, nor am I giving up on Coach Benford....just venting a bit of frustration. Yes, I am grumpy this evening after watching that game tonight in person....but, the sky is not falling and there will be a new game Saturday....see you there! Anyone actually at the game and who experienced that mess of an effort by this group of individuals, feel free to chime in...if you were not there to actually witness this in person...just keep your hat to yourself.

  44. hmm...could you possibly be over-reacting? Benford has only been a head coach for how many games now? (8 i believe) I'm just saying....on some level WE helped create this monster that is probably the most over-hyped team in North Texas sports history. We definitely didn't down-play it. I believe Benford is still trying to figure out how to most efficiently place the players around TM. Hes going through some growing pains and unfortunately its at the expense of a really talented basketball team.
