I'm so glad we lost that guy. Clearly the guys on the grumpy board are getting the excellence they demanded.

This is starting to look like a much more realistic goal. But this is still a huge disappointment.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the coaches are determined to put Trice at corner. Another thing that DMac mentioned lately was insufficient depth for nickel (sp?) and dime packages; maybe this is part of immediately addressing an obvious need: talent in the secondary. After the homecoming loss, I stopped by Metzler's bbq (a favorite Denton joint for me), and was fortunate in meeting Roy Metzler himself, who said we won't be successful until we get the guys for pass coverage. I have to agree with Roy on that one.

I wonder about Benford, I have not gave up on him but there are a lot of bad to horrible signs. Benford was hired to keep this band of players together and he did that, but thus far he as shown no ability to get them to play as a team. Benfords talk about all the talent on this team, I assume was to build them up; but it appears to had the opposite effect. Mitchell, the most talented player Benford was quoted saying he has been around, looked about as bad as any athlete I have ever seen at NT againt UTA. No doubt, he had more talent than anyone on the court by a mile which is usually the case, but his actions on the court were as bad as I have seen. Not his play, he was still effective; but those stating that his antics didn't effect his draft status; know very little about basketball. He may be still drafted high but it he doesn't turn around his attitude he is going to leave literately millions of dollars on the table. Jones, Benford has stated as being as good as any Big East point, based on his play so far will be lucky to keep his job over Hardwick. Colemen, a power conference post that is going to take the pressure off Mitchell, is mysteriously not getting hardly any playing time. I don't think Benford is as bad a coach as he has shown thus far, but this isn't the season to watse on a rookie coach that doesn't seem at this point any more qualified than Todd Dodge. Does anyone else think that if UTA and NT switched coaches that NT would have won by twenty easily?

Even more depressing than watching Johnny pace back and forth was seeing Charlie Leonard sitting in his usual place with his clipboard scheming "effective" strategies. great win tonight for JJ and charlie. it's as if the players and coaches all had the same goal going into the game.

As would better defensive play on third down. Lack of any offense killed this team.

I'd be happy with a Wal-Mart product. We are at Dollar General level right now. But a Dollar General that plays in a Best Buy of a basketball facility and a Macy's football stadium. I think everyone would be happy if we played at our talent level and not below it. And the 1% percent does carry this program, but how is that different than any other program in CUSA or the Sun Belt.

The problem is that this fan base wants a Neiman Marcus product at a Wal-Mart price. 1% of the fan base definitely carries this program.

Hey, I understand your feelings, and why you might feel that way...but, would appreciate some respect for a different view...my support is unconditional...if you want to p,ace conditions on yours that's A-OK....to each his own and I have no problem with it. It is just not me...frustration is one thing...read my posts in other threads and you will clearly see I am as frustrated with the way this BB season is going right now as anyone...but my personal sky is not falling because of it...never will based on some sporting contest...lose and you get to go at it again....not THAT important. So, for me...yep fun...love watching UNT play...win, lose or draw...frustration is another matter...right now this guy is very frustrated, but will I have fun Saturday at the LaLa game? Absolutely? Why the heck not? Choices...we all make 'me. We win some ... We ,one some. How that turns out is pretty much all attitude.

Can't argue with that I completely get the animosity from UNT fans. And I also think it's good for us to actually develop a rivalry on the field (hopefully court too). It's ironic, but actually working together is beneficial for both sides. If an SMU/UNT rivalry picks up heat, the area's media will have to start picking it up and start taking attention away from UT, A&M, OU, LSU, and other schools not quite situated in DFW.

Mean Green Glory...AMEN...depth and then COMPETITION. Those two things will make a winning team quicker than anything. When you dont have to take a major step back with a replacement and then that 1st teamer knows there is someone hungry going after his job....that is always a good thing. I bet that Coach Mac tells the current team like any other coach....no job is secure.

No it's not. You said you'll stop when it is no longer fun. It hasn't been "fun" for me for a while and I am still here. I want university athletics to achieve something. As long as this school is my alma mater* I will be loyal: TO THE UNIVERSITY. I won't be blindly loyal to a person, a title, or a some self appointed self righteous group of holier than thou's who doesn't like my lack of blind faith. *I don't know, I guess they could rescind the degrees I earned here.

A pass rush would really help this team out

You know, I don't know much about basketball. But in looking at last years results of the North Texas-UTA game, I think that after JJ was hired away from us (did we get any contract buy out money on that?) I would have given serious consideration to hiring the coach who beat JJ's team last year by over 30 points. And as to all this praise/credit given to RV for our wonderful football facilities. Derrick Murray and his SGA colleagues deserve the credit.....not RV. I've said this many many times....no student fee vote....no stadium and increase in cash flow for "other things". Now, carry on about the mechanics of the game, because I have no idea what you are talking about.

These guys have been reading their press coverage. None of them could hit a bull in the ass with a brushpile last night. I saw no sense of urgency, they were just going through the motions. UTA wanted it! You can trash Benford or RV or anyone you like but they will never handle the ball and put up a shot. It is on the players and they are proving to be overrated, IMHO.

They should have never got what they wanted. They had already applied to the BE something like 30 times, were we really supposed to think bringing in an FCS school and a school that hasn't even begun football was going to satisfy them? I for one am glad they are gone.

So it takes time for new coaches to adjust to new schools, players time to adjust to new systems and new coaches and recruiting supply chains are disrupted. That seems pretty obvious. And the schools that get marked improvements are the rare exception, NOT the norm when replacing a coach. The study does NOT say never fire the coach of an underperforming team, but do not expect a quick turn around when you do. Building a lasting program takes time and is not a linear process.

Seeing two 2 on 1 fastbreaks end in a charge and a missed layup without a pass was the most frustrating thing of the night for me. Basic basketball. Give it up, get it back. BASIC, BASIC, BASIC, and yet Jordan Willaims (who has a terribly low basketball IQ) ran over his defender while Alzee decided to take it in on his own and miss a heavily contested layup instead of making a 5 foot pass that would have resulted in a lay up. Maddening.

why don't we just add the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama... I think that would make our conference stronger...
