"MTSU’s acceptance to C-USA comes just months after its first bid to join the league fell just short. It will be the third Sun Belt member to announce a move to C-USA in recent months, joining Florida International and Western Kentucky." Nice...really Nice!4 points

This is more or less the camp I'm in. My other alma mater is a non-football school in the Big West, and has been for over 25 years. I sat there watching Fresno, UNLV, Boise, NMSU, most of the current Sunbelt, come, make dirty love to our whore of a conference, use us as a filthy transient matress, then move on to the WAC (yay! great move!), the Sunbelt (Wright that ship!) and all other points. Meanwhile, the Big West has become one of the most stable, fun, albeit certainly not most talented, basketball leagues to watch. Until Hawaii joins next year, it's been an entirely California conference, and you could easily drive to several road games a year, the rivalries between UCI, UCSB, CSUF, CSULB are fierce and decades old. So back to focus here in lil' ole Denton. Unless the hand of God himself comes down and directs the ESPN satellite dishes toward Denton, then I'd really like to enjoy some driveable road games, an occasional victory, and so help me, never a Tuesday night game again. Boise didn't build a name for itself by chasing the NCAA dragon right off the bat. They started by kicking the crap out of Nevada, and San Jose State, and New Mexico State. They gradulally upped the ante year after year. One statue of liberty play later, they're dancing in OU's victory circle -- as members of a no-name WAC conference. I'm going to get crushed in this post for mentioning my other alma mater, dare speaking the name of the Big West, and not "aspiring to be the best." Meh. I really enjoy getting up to Denton in the fall and seeing old classmates and acquaintances from my time spent on my knees in Lake Dallas (measuring floors! what the hell did you think I meant?!?). I just really don't care if it's Texas Southern, UTSA, Tulsa, Marshall, or the Toronto Argonauts. Underneath it all, for me, it's an excuse to go up to Denton, eat some ribs, drink some beers, hang out, and watch a little pigskin elipsoid fly through the air (preferably not landing at the back of Delgado's feet). I guess football is a means to me, not the end.4 points

UTSA...regarding the crowds..San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the US. San Ant wanted a football team as much as a I want a beer right now. They have basketball and thats it. UTSA...UNT has the upper hand on recruiting just for the simple reason that UNT has a football facility... UTSA has no practice facility except what is on a drawing and has been on a drawing for 3 years; they practice on a high school football field. And I'm sorry, I go back to their schedule and the d2 schools and d1aa schools that they beat. OK...they beat USA and Tx State. Wow, that would impress me if I were a recruit.... GMG4 points

No. I know I am almost alone in my opinion on this but I have zero interest in playing in an all Texas league or division. Two other Texas school, maybe three, fine. Those can make good rivals and Texas is big enough to do that. But four, five, or six schools...? Might as well create Conference Texas, get UTA and UT Tyler and any other UT whatever going in football and have one big glorified high school football league. I have no interest in that and am pretty sure there would be no interest in that on a national level. I want my school to be known nationally.3 points

I just want to revive my plan to rid college football of conferences all together, let the NCAA align all FBS teams into MegaDivisions, sign a big fat contract with ESPN/CBS/NBC/ABC, and create a 24-team playoff.3 points

Between WAC 1.0, WAC 2.0 and the Sun Belt? Pretty much all of them? Twat. Edit: BYU NMSU Utah Wyoming Colorado St UTEP SDSU Hawaii Air Force UNLV TCU Rice SMU Fresno Tulsa Nevada Boise St UNT FIU FAU MTSU This is nearly 18% of all college teams. Nearly 1 in 5 college football teams in existence have told Karl to go shove it in his hat.3 points

That group shows why the CUSA, even after the defections, is a step up from the Sun Belt for UNT. Three Texas schools as conference mates (vs. none in the Belt) and two border state schools with a bigger profile than the old two (UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe).3 points

Making I'd ask what happen to the 12th game. The real debate is what happens in 4-8, 5-7 situation. But I think so little of Dodge I don't really care what happens in the first 3 Mac seasons. I think Dodge screwed this team up so much that it's going to take 3 seasons to recruit & recoach. So I care about what happens in year 4.3 points

Very few people have said DMac needs to be fired. To blindly trust anyone without a yearly evaluation is just pure stupidity. Year 3 will tell th tale. That is what many of us have said, whether we were Dodge supporters or not (it's actually split about half and half from my observation). Let me ask you a question. What should be done if we go 2-9 or 1-10 next year?3 points

"Schools are playing musical chairs with conferences from coast to coast. Tulane threatened to be left without a seat at the BCS table and undoubtedly would have been if not for a bold, unprecedented commitment to athletics in the past three years." They still have no more a seat at the BCS table than they would have in CUSA. This is either ignorance or spin (or both).2 points

I think if you follow the posting history of this board, you will find that we cheered when TCU won the Rose Bowl, we cheered when TCU got the Big XII invite, and we absolutely cheered every time they destroyed the ponies. This is all just a response at another Cougar Queen who happens to think he represents TCU.2 points

Alamodome is nearly 20 years old (opened in 1993). It will soon be outdated for an NFL team. Besides, San Antonio did not turn out for the Saint in the season after Katrina2 points

Hah! That's a good wish in life, albeit unattainable. We do a good job of keeping ourselves out. Tcu has absolutely no affect on unt or any other school for that matter and if u think it does, you are the one that is dilusional. Since tcu is so powerful, do you think they should ask ut and ou for a bigger slice of the tv contract? Do you think tcu could go independent like Notre dame and byu? Tcu still needs to do what got them to the spot they are in now; keep taking care of yourselves, don't make enemies, and ride Gary Patterson until his back breaks from carrying the entire school or he continues to eat too much railhead.2 points

That my meager expectations for Mean Green athletics are seen by some as unrealistic and cynical is really depressing... Hell, I predicted/expected a 5-7 football season with an outmanned team throwing the kitchen sink at their losses. I expected a basketball team with more talent than last year to make a decent showing of themselves early in the season. If I'm unrealistic/cynical for expecting the Mean Green to not suck balls.... I guess I haven't been a fan long enough?2 points

I would like to see more quality and not quantity. (Running back is a perfect example) I'm not worried as much about getting up to the 85 scholarship limit if guys aren't good D1 prospects. A boat load of our scholarships have gone to walk ons. This translate to a bad football team without talent. (Yeah, I know we needed numbers) Do we have any potential All Conference running backs on the current roster? Of the commits we have so far, are any of them potential all conference type guys (in 2-3 years) Our hope lately has been in hoping they get on the field in 2-3 years. We need the biggest, badest and quickest defensive lineman we can get to play in September 2013. If this requires 5-6 Juco's then we need to go in this direction. I get the thought of building with high school kids, This assumes we are getting our fair share of good ones. (and we aren't) I'm tired of new coaches taking 5 years to put a better product on the field. We aren't exactly playing in the Big 12 or SEC. Enough of the bs about how much we are improving and what we inherited. To finish my rant, please don't recruit any more projects with what is left. If guys aren't ready to contribute as true freshmen or after a redshirt year, don't recruit them. The time to win is now. We should be at a point where 5-6 high major recruits are looking to transfer back to the metroplex for more playing time. It shouldn't take much effort by the coaches to answer the telephone. You're even more paranoid than the punks over in Dallas. You people even said you were going to block Baylor from the MWC should the B12 fall apart a couple of years ago. Sounds like you all realize deep down that your recent football success is very temporary, and that you will soon be back to scraping the bottom of the barrel where you belong. Can't wait to troll YOUR board when that day comes in the very near future.2 points

I am reading this late, but don't have the patience to get to the end of the thread before commenting.... What was the timeline given for DM success when TD was fired? how long did we think that it would take? anyone willing to do that research on the board? I would feel very comfortable saying that most people thought, similar to how we thought after DD, that it would take a few years to dig us out of this hole that has been dug for us. DM has done great compared to the filfth that we have been watching for the previous 5... no no no ... 6 or 7 years?!?!?!?!?!? I don't give him a pass on in game decisions nor do I give him a pass on not addressing key personnel issues but the man has done more with what many deemed "scraps" or a bare cupboard than were immediatly thought. This time last year we had high hopes and bright outlooks. i still do. I see a coach who doesn't look like a fake, who holds himself up as a real D1 coach with real tallent and real skins. He even has a Nation Championship ring to show for it if I am not mistaken. Take yourselves back to three years ago... take yourselves back to that great win at Ball St............ Ball St.... what an amazing win that was! what a horrible level our program was at. how low was it then, how deep did we get, how hard is it going to be to climb back? patience is a virtue that few posess (sp), do we have it as a fan base? can we take ourselves back to where we were? i think that we have made progress, we have an actual S&C coach now... a staff with actuall skins on the wall and the facilities to back up the faith that we have in them. UNT90 is right, next year is the measuring stick, it is the test. Next year we get most of the way past the recruiting hole left to us, we have years to sell the new stadium and years to implement the new DM system. He deserves 3 years before a cross is built with his name on it.2 points

We left our old church in Plano because after our long-time, very solid pastor retired and the new young guy came in, we left a perfectly good building to build a fancy new place, then slowly, the Word was phased out of sermons in favor of principles and sugar-coating. By the time we left, you didn't need to bring your Bible to church because there was only 1 verse used (sometimes out of context), and it was put up on the giant screens while the rest of the time was spent posturing and providing life lessons. Slick new building though! The youth building was equipped with Xboxes and other cool stuff! I'll say though that after serving at a South Dallas church, gyms can be immensely useful in providing a safe haven for kids and adults alike who would rather ball than be out on the streets. "Coffee shops"? Not so much... maybe they can provide a safe haven for hipsters who would rather drink the latest organically-grown bean that some people in Africa/Central America grew that you've probably never heard of.2 points

I throw churches under the bus for a myriad of reasons, chief among them being that they have tax exempt status but have budgets where salaries and maintenance dwarf missions and charity. Up here in North Dallas/Suburbs, there a many of these megachurches that have spent millions on facilities and keeping large staffs. Meanwhile, in South Dallas, people starve, have utilities turned off, etc. We were members of a now expanding Methodist church up here for about a month...until they passed out the annual budget and began asking us how much we intended to pledge for their plans for expanding the building. With less than 10% going to missions and charity, we simply quit that church. Pathetic. The churches in America are doing the devil's work for him. It's really no more plain than that. I am the chief of saying unpopular but true things, and the church isn't spared - if it acts like a business, tax it like a business. If it says it is a religious organization due a tax exemption on those grounds, then make them open their books and see if their money is going to the places the Bible says churches should be going with their money. I highly doubt God is impressed with gymnasiums, bookstores, coffee shops, baseball diamonds, football fields, etc. As to that pesky Jesus, I recall him driving those doing business in the Temple out of it. I laud the few programs you speak about. But, the truth is, enough money is pumped into churches by "christians" to do far more than is now being done. What is happening now is churches pushing for political leaders to do the work they are supposed to be doing. It's wrong. As to the Catholics, don't even get me started. Having married a Catholic, I had some premarital chats with the very FW Diocese that was involved in shifting around child molesters. Against that background, they had to nerve to ask me to pay for an annulment because I was divorced. As much as the Catholic Charities may do, the Catholic Church itself has wasted millions hiding, covering, and defending molesters. It's despicable.2 points
