It doesn't matter who he signed his first two years. He went 5-7 and 4-8, and has an overall losing record versus Sun Belt competition. We are playing in the lowest rung of FBS competition. The thing he hasn't stockpiled is DTs and WRs. If he doesn't get runstoppers and platmakers, the quality of this team will not change. And, if the quality doesn't change, no new fans are attracted, and we are...continually walking the treadmill to nowhere competitively.7 points

Am I the only one who thinks its a bad idea to place all of your school's hopes and dreams upon the shoulders of a guy who hasn't played a down of organized football in about 2 years?7 points

What does it mean to demand more as a fan? Box seats? season tickets? Mean Green club? Those things are the basics of supporting a program. The people who moan about how long it's been since we were a bowl team, seem to forget about the 40+ year bowl drought before 2001 New Orleans Bowl. A Perennial bowl contender, with a massive endowment, statewide following, and traditional rivalries. This season sucked because it reminded us of who we are, a directional state school that is in year two of a complete rebuilding process from coach to team to facilities to sports culture.5 points

To go 9-3. For a while, he was a 7-5 coach. I'm pissed, but you people are clearly jumping ship far too early. I think another season is the last chance. His overall record is irrelevant. And with recruiting, you're delusional if you think he'd come in here getting 4 star recruits with our reputation. I thought we'd be 4-8 last year and thought 6-6 this year. Pretty close. I think we are a 8-4 team next year. I see good redshirts, recruits and transfers. We're on the brink of something, and I see potential. Took Fry two years. Just step back and breathe before you do something stupid and rash. The way people are demanding immediate success just isn't realistic. And he did fail at bringing a QB. But his only other option is Osborn, who, if his Twitter is any sign, very entitled and arrogant. He brought Berglund, though. One of our highest profile QBs...in a long time. Recruiting, he brought Jim Jim...he wasn't highly rated...2-stars...he looks electric. Whitfield has shown enormous potential...no stars. Mac is going for a system player. Not superstars.4 points

I woke up today. I still have a job. I have a wife and two kids that love me. I don't have to try to buy Burnt Orange t-shirts. I look good in green. With any luck I will be able to repeat this tomorrow.4 points

When you give up offensively while up 7 with 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, you lose football games. I've heard of teams quitting, but today, the coaching staff quit on the team. Unforgivable.3 points

Whoever wins the job will be our quarterback. I will support the decision of our coaches. They know more than our fanbase about who can advance our teams chance for success. I believe qb could be a position of depth with Thompson, Berglund and the incoming recruit whose name escapes my grasp. I still believe good things are on the horizon. GMG3 points

I'm really surprised that some people have a hard time understanding why the offensive gameplan is what it is...the QB is horrible. I wouldn't call a whole lot of throws either if I had to deal w/ the inaccuracies of DT either! Even when he completes a pass it requires an acrobatic play by the reciever...with zero chance of RAC yards. If we tried to throw the ball more, you would just end up gassing your defense and letting the other team win the field position battle and grealy increase thir possessions because we do not have a QB capable of carrying the offense. Then people ask why hasn't Mac recruited one??? Answer: because he has been in need at almost every position...he's been restocking the whole roster...say what you will, but for the most part it's true. I know he should have already overhauled the roster since he's been here for 5 years...oh wait...he just finished his 2ND SEASON! Here are the roster issues I can THINK OF that he has had to deal with: DE DT OLB CB S FS OL HB TE WR and yes...QB Has he done it all? Hell no...has he been stock pilling? Hell yes... I'm just as pissed off that we didn't win more games, but this thing is heading in the right direction LAST POINT...the pick 6 killed us...not the play calling3 points

I have to admit, I get tired of this argument. In 120 seasons of playing football, ISU has a 45.9% winning percentage, yet in 12 years his was 39.7%.3 points

No, we're talking about your lame attempt to take a shot at me personally, veiled within a "he's a coach...you're not" inference. And we're talking about how this "he knows more about football than a layman" argument has been employed by you, and others, since Dodge was here. So, in a way, we're talking about both men. But, just to be clear, I have never been a college head coach. There, I said it. Likewise, I've never been an airline pilot...but if my flight starts to nose dive I'm gonna doubt the skill of the captain.3 points

Once again it's Harry to the rescue to set the record straight. We have too many mow-rons who think they are high profile college coaches and can make better decisions around here....THANK YOU HARRY!3 points

I fear whatever new fan base Mac may have been able to grab, I.e new students, may have vanished into thin air just as our lead did in the fourth today. I mean look what happened at our last home game. I don't care who the coach is, as long as we stop sucking and start acting like a real football program. Get in and make the right decisions or get out and develop our school as a Basketball school. I don't have answers. I don't think a lot of the realistic people I know here, believe they truly have the answers. But we all want the same thing, (I think.) And that is to have a winning program where we feel like we at getting our money's worth and one we can be proud of. Lets have some accountability from top to bottom and quit making excuses and make it happen. Quit calling out people for questioning our leaders, we should question everything. I want to be clear I am not directing this at TFLF, but to us all in general. GMG.3 points

Sun Belt is not the Big 12 circa 1995 with four Top Ten schools. The only reason I cut Mac any slack at this point is he is following a high school coaching hire that decimated a program already in decline, talent-wise and depth-wise. C-USA will be more difficlt. But, I don't expect any excuses. Mac has coached again Tom Osborn, Bob Stoops, Mack Brown, Bill Snyder, and many other great coach at big programs as an assistant. He's been in big venues. He's been in big games. He has seen the best on the field and has coached against the best. The Sun Belt and C-USA shouldn't be vexing or intimidating to him. The recruiting must pickup. That is his responsibility. Next year, a majority of the recruits will be his. If we are still thin at DT and WR next year, it will be nobdy's fault but his. Traditional crappy program Kent State finished their season today with an 11-1 record. Their new head coach also in his second season. And, the MAC much more competitive this season than the Sun Belt. This can't go on forever. Or...maybe it can. We don't have a big enough fan base to notice anyway. This was a fan base that seriously thought a high school coach was a good hire.3 points

What would happen if you recruited only jucos? Would you end up with scholarships that you could never use? At 25 per year would you run into a numbers crunch mess? McCarney did what he had to do by recruiting and redshirting so many freshmen in order to get us back to full scholarship numbers and develop some depth. Dodge left him with his hands tied from a scholarship standpoint. He is having to weather that storm. Is McCarney the greatest on field coach? No, that coach lives in Boise, Idaho. However, he is going about rebuilding this team the right way. Give him some time to recruit and develop young talent. At that point some of his "bad calls" will start to look like "good calls" because he will have the talent, experience, and depth to make them work.2 points

For the folks complaining about the lack of progress how do you explain more wins in the last two seasons than the previous four?2 points

"And the guy that made the play was a guy that I helped recruit to Florida, Jonathan Dawling from Bradenton southeast and he left Florida and transferred to WKU and it was a sensational play he made for the touchdown today." Hey McCarney.......................we don't care a flying flip who you helped recruit to Florida. Tell us what you did for UNT today!!!!2 points

When you have a QB that you don't trust to throw the rock what would you suggest you call? Have DT sling the rock around. When up 14 at the end of 3 going into a shell and running the ball(which you've done all game) is typically what you do2 points
-
Which of the redshirted players made the decision to go into a shell when we were up 14 to end the 3rd quarter? Which one of them called the ultra conservative and ultra predictable offense all year? You can defend his recruiting til the cows come home...it's the coaching that many of us are perplexed by. And, more to the point, which of them is of sufficient quality that they'll make a difference next year? Look at the commits we are pulling in...they have D1 size but I aint seein D1 pedigree. When, oh when, will we not be the school of "next year"?2 points

DT's being redshirted: Wallace, McDorman and Watson. WR's being redshirted: Lancaster, Schrapps, Hines (gray), Terrell (transfer) What is your definition of stockpiling?2 points

Alabama no, KSU yes. I agree with you 100% Harry. Dodge and his win now mentality screwed the program for years. Having 6 scholarship Seniors is not a recipe for winning2 points

Going into to an Offensive Shell in the 4th Quarter with a lead - did not work in the Big 12 - Did not Work in the Sun Belt and will not work in the C-USA - Our Coaches must face that fact and make changes. DKR - said you dance with who brought you to the dance and you dance with her until the dance is over - I think he was the greatest Div. 1 coach ever in Texas - Will our Coach listen to one of the Texas Greats???? We are paying him over $500,000.00 per year and he comes up with this going into a Shell Offense with a 4th Quarter lead - Cost us Victory against Troy & WKU - is that all we get for $500,000.00 per year - the players and fans deserve better than that for that kind of money!!! We could have been 6-6 this year.2 points
-
I think people NOT demanding immediate success is unrealistic. We haven't had winning football in 8 seasons now. How much longer is it going to take? Only at North Texas.2 points

Favorable schedule, weaker schedule, better team. You don't know what you're talking about.2 points

8-4 next year? I want you to take this for what it is...an honest attempt to help. I've worked around drug addled people a lot in my career. So I know it's hard to admit when you have a dependency. But, please, face that demon and begin on the road to recovery.2 points

Not against CUSA. He had the smallest budget and fewest resources in the Big XII. We are not the biggest in CUSA but we aren't the smallest either. I still believe Mac's overall plan is correct. That does NOT mean every game is going to be perfect not that improvement will be a straight line.2 points

All Iowa State had was a conference. Lowest budget in the Big 12, lower than the top tier CUSA/MWC schools. Big, empty stadium.2 points

The college game and all that it entails has passed Mac by. That's what I believe.2 points

Kram, no one here is talking about abandoning the mean green, but what we have been seeing lately is absolutely unacceptable. I will never root for any other team, but if I'm am being honest, I'm not optimistic about who we have leading the program right now. I would love to be wrong, and hope I am.2 points

DT doesn't stike me as a quiter....he may not be the qb, but I don't see him leaving the team2 points
-
These players go out and work hard...they are what they are...and we recruit what we can recruit...so, we can hope they get better at recruiting, esp with the conf change...perhaps we need a better qb coach..don't know, maybe its just DT's talent level....what I do believe is...play calling has been pretty bad all year...it just really stands out against Troy and WKU....we don't trhow the ball for the needed yardage on a 3rd and X...we throw it X-4 or X-6...then we punt...we have done this all year long...we are too predictable with plays...if we have a 3rd and 8 we either pass for for 3 or pass for 30....then we punt. We always play way to conservative with way too much time left against that usually kicks our ass....usually sunbelt team our "high powered" coach is coaching against. When we run a play that works...don't look for us to use it again in the same game...we much prefer to go back to what is not working.. So is Mac the guy ?....got to say, I'm not seeing it...comparing to Dodge is like comparing Ali to a 7th grade boxer...Dodge is nothing to be comparing coaches to....how about comparing to other coaches...maybe even Sunbelt. I think this is the worse play calling I have ever seen at UNT. He is in year two and it took a bad call for us to win against South Alabama...stat wise we got our asses kicked. This could be bad for RV as well....we don't have years to change thinks at UNT...like someone said...some of us will be DEAD before UNT wins...its just a disgrace and pathetic to keep a coach that is not winning...we, especially the students, are paying alot of money for football and expect results better than this...this is millions more $$$ and barely better than the high schoo coach RV hired and kept for near forever. If Mac isn't well on track half way through next year I say PUNT and put Canales in charge again for the remained...he may end of being the guy for us before all is said and done (but maybe not)...but 6 games into next year, I believe you will know if MAC is IT...if he is not, don't wait...PUNT. We don't need another group of students graduating and believing UNT football totally sucks.2 points

Tough loss....tough season. This waiting for "next season" is getting tougher and tougher. But, as a proud member of the great Mean Green Nation I will do just that. No way I am ever abandoning MY University or the Mean Green. Tough season to take...it will take a bit of time to get past this one...maybe until spring ball and/or a basketball trip to the NCAA's. Goodnight Mean Green football for 2012. The 2013 season starts tomorrow! Edit: Seriously, really? What was said here that in any way deserves a negative point? Really? Someone is really having a bad day.....2 points

If you think Dodge left the cupboard bare, just wait until his players are gone. Y'Barbo, Fortenberry, A. Johnson, Feeley, Anyiam, Byrd, Chancellor, Teegarden, Miller, Prior, McCoy, Abbe, Cantly, Obi, Bellazin, Orr, Phillips, Wright, Jackson...2 points

3-5 in the SBC = 3-5 in CUSA. The Sun Belt has more bowl teams than CUSA this seaon and more OOC wins. What's the difference between 11 and 12? ULM had their best season ever. We lost Dunbar to the DALLAS COWBOYS! The teams that were better than us last season, were better than us this season.2 points
-
In all fairness to Mac and Chico, who own the plays being called on the field, who in the hell are you going to throw to down field? Between a QB who can't hit open receivers on 10 yard routes and no receiver over 5'9 who can actually get down field fast enough to be in the vicinity of a long throw, how is throwing down field even an option?2 points
-
I'll take this to the opposite spectrum. Attitudes like this keep people like Dodge here for 4 years. There is not enough accountability here at North Texas. As far as I'm concerned, RV's seat is warm too especially with the way basketball is going.2 points

We also had pro-line in Fort Worth work up an image for caps with the NT star on it. I believe that there was a black version and a green version. When we met with their sales rep and looked at the image, he said that in his opinion, it was the best image for a North Texas cap that he had ever seen. He said that if the University used this logo on it's official gear, they would sell it all out. I think that FFR still has the image somewhere, but mine got lost in the transfer of electronic files when I bought a new computer. What I hate more than anything else in this discussion is the phrase "ain't gonna happen".2 points
