I would have rather lost this game with DT throwing 5 pick 6s rather than us cower in a shell and play scared. It's the last game of another bad season. Yeah, sure, let's play scared. The coaching staff lost the games to Troy and WKU. Flat out.8 points

When you give up offensively while up 7 with 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, you lose football games. I've heard of teams quitting, but today, the coaching staff quit on the team. Unforgivable.7 points

I'll take this to the opposite spectrum. Attitudes like this keep people like Dodge here for 4 years. There is not enough accountability here at North Texas. As far as I'm concerned, RV's seat is warm too especially with the way basketball is going.6 points

If you are turning 70 in 2013,which I am, there are a number of reasons to look forward to next year. Hell, at my age I look forward to every year.5 points

WE HAD NO FREEKN BUSINESS LOSING THIS GAME! Remember he also burnt 45 secs and two time-outs at the end of the half. Look, in addition to the Troy loss, HEAP THIS OUTCOME ON MAC. Sure we are young and in transition, sure we have a lot of injuries...but if you ask me, as far as adjustments on defense, utilization of talent and play calling on offense, coaching has been poor all season. This loss was horrible!!!4 points

And you wonder why more of our students pay attention to Johnny Football and the UT QB competition than what plays out at Apogee on Saturdays.4 points

Look dude, I am talking about one game. And make no mistake, the coach quit on his players today. DT throws a pick 6 and Dmac's solution is not to throw the ball again. Even after the WKU field goal. He only threw the ball when WKU knew we had no other choice. You know, after we had allowed them to take the lead. THAT IS COMPLETE HEAD COACH GIVE UP ON A TEAM. And that is unforgivable.4 points

If 56-85 is what you call a successful reclamation project then something is wrong.4 points

Unless Canales is just completely inept as a coordinator, these play calls are indicative of a coach that has no faith in his QB. If Thompson is back next year as the starter, I will have lost all faith in this coaching staff.4 points

I bet not near as whiny as the K State fans were last week. It's a good thing, and kind of amazing, that UNT still has fans that give a crap.3 points

Do you honestly think that when Mac came here he would be able to land 4 and 5 star players??? No...no star player in their right mind would have come to North Texas after what Dodge left. I think he got what he could have from what he was able to get. Next year's class looks good and a lot of redshirt freshman will be able to play.3 points
-
Did someone suggest the QB throw the ball at some point in time? Certainly not in the 4Q. 100% coaching fail.3 points
-
Derek Thompson not only over throws, under throws, etc., but when he does hit guys, he does so in such a way that he leaves them no opportunities for RAC...drives me crazy. I want to know what his numbers would be w/out screens or swing passes??? HORRIBLE!3 points

And Leach has players once again claiming he has mistreated them.3 points

The too conservative hand off to the right and hand off to the left with 9 or 10 “IN THE BOX” – is not allowing your QB the opportunity to Read the Defense and React to it - Basic 101 stuff. If you want to be conservative wit 9 in the box then put an Option Offense on the field so you can go around the ends and move the chains and keep moving – what we are doing has not worked all season – Look at the loss to Troy – same thing. Mac lost this one and a few others – we could have been 6-6 this year.2 points

As a program, we have made one mistake after another, beginning with the God-awful to drop down to 1-AA years ago, and we are feeling the effects of that decision today. Shitty conferences, shitty support, shitty coaches and up until a couple of years ago, shitty facilities. Because of all this, we have found ourselves on the outside looking as far as football is concerned. Coach Mac is building a team the right way, through high school recruits and red shirting, but we have run out of time. The Dodge experience set us back ten years, and we're about to pay the price for the un-forseeable future. We suck now, but a real program takes a long time to build. Unfortunetly, we have run out of time. We'll be relegated to second tier going forward because of the decisions of the past.2 points

The teams that were worse than us 2-3 seasons ago are far better than us this season.2 points

So let me ask this. It's the general consensus that Dickey succeeded because of one good recruiting class and that he stopped winning because he stopped recruiting. He "left the cupboard bare." So we brought in Dodge. He didn't recruit well either as evidenced by his record...but we gave him FOUR years?! We all agree he didn't recruit worth a damn because we all agree that when he left he "left the cupboard bare." Oh, I forgot...we kept him because we couldn't afford his buyout. So then, with a "bare cupboard", we hired Mac. And now, when he has regressed in year two and there are no signs of recruiting (that thing that got Dickey and Dodge canned) improving significantly (who else has offered our commits?), we are again faced with a coach that we can't afford to buy out? Why don't we just go find an up and coming assistant who is hungry and will work for cheap (now where could we find one of those? Our OC?). At least when they fail to produce we won't be held hostage. Go ahead, -1 away. But don't delude yourself. If you weren't IN this abusive relationship you'd be yelling for the participants to get out of it.2 points
-
At least, I'm afraid. By the time he's done, the season ticket and donor base will gone so the only people left for Mac to rah rah in front of will be RV's entourage.2 points
-
In all fairness to Mac and Chico, who own the plays being called on the field, who in the hell are you going to throw to down field? Between a QB who can't hit open receivers on 10 yard routes and no receiver over 5'9 who can actually get down field fast enough to be in the vicinity of a long throw, how is throwing down field even an option?2 points
-
He signed a 5 year deal.. The only way we fire him after 3 years if has less than 3 wins next year. I dont think we can afford to Macs byout and pay another head coach.2 points
-
Nope. The QB Mac has sworn to all year did. Do we have any other QBs that could have played better? Especially after the Troy game? Who knows. The head coach wouldn't try anything different. Which is weird since he said no one on this team is entitled to their spot. But maybe that was just Mac excelling at press conferences. And he does excel at press conferences.2 points

I thought we had coaches with skins on the wall. Just didn't know it was a great big cheerleading poster.2 points

So we wait ANOTHER year? Some folk will DIE before UNT has a winning season again!!2 points

I wish we could just be good at something for the fans like Wardly. I hold little hope for anything above 3 wins next year, unfortunately.2 points

I think that is a bit rough. He has taken on two reclamation projects in Iowa State and North Texas. It is yet to be seen here. We will be able to tell over the next two years. He had some success as well as failure at Iowa State. I think he has made improvements here. Get in a full class and we will be able to fully judge his success or not. Once again patience is needed. I do agree that today should have been a win, though. GMG2 points

McCarney is an absolute joke of a coach. -1 me all you want, but he has proven himself incapable of being able to win close games. This game was on him. What else would we expect from a guy with a 30 under .500 record.2 points

Don't under estimate the ability of Brock to be a complete bust and Mac's extreme loyality to DT. Just sayin'2 points

Not a happy camper. Tired of Dan blaming the culture here and how he's here to save the day. Oh yeah, and those "successful" Sun Belt teams of the early 2000s? They'd beat your boys by 30 and only because Dickey ran the ball the entire second half. The Sun Belt wasn't too impressed with your nice shiny ring. Time to can the speeches and roll up the sleeves. This team needs work.2 points

I'll take the second coming of Cedric Hardman. In his senior year at North Texas (1969), he recorded 38 sacks.2 points

As we close out our run in the Belt, I think we can take a look at for what it was. The SBC gave us a D1 home, when we wouldn't have fit anywhere else. It gave us a place to grow and adjust to D1. The Big West was a failure and didn't prepare for D1 after our years in fcs obscurity. The SBC gave us a taste of success that we wouldn't have found anywhere else, which in turn sparked the movement to take our facilities to the level they are now. Say what you want about the Belt, the first 4 years were special and they are the reason we have a new stadium, and an administration that cares about atheletics.2 points

His team cant shoot...but that's not his fault. His team plays no perimeter defense...but that's not his fault. His team gets consistently outrebounded...but that's not his fault. His team takes ill advised shots and shows no basketball IQ...but that's not his fault. One of his players just might be an academic casualty...but that's not his fault. Tell me then, what IS the responsibility of a COACH?2 points

You might reread his post. His point was that even if it's Benford's top priority, there is only so much he and his staff can do. They can make sure he goes to class and study hall. They can't make him pay attention and they can't make him read when he looks at pages. At some point, the student has to make the decision to want to try to learn.1 point

70% of all the players that have played for TCU this year are either freshman or sophomores. Not to mention they are playing with their back up QB. Great job by Gary Patterson this year1 point

Well...the short answer again is that the few cannot always do for the many. Thought that was fairly clear. These things do not happen on their own and the businesses rarely initiate this sort of activity. Of course anyone is welcome to volunteer their time and often some of their own money to set these up. That's the answer as to "why", Silver....too many who want these things set up so they can just come, have a great time, and leave. Too few folks to do the leg work, the set up and the take down and clean up after folks leave. If you are talking about the Pavilion, that takes several hours to set up and then take down. Then there is the purchase of the feed, etc. It does not have to be the Alumni Assoc. or a chapter setting these things up...lots of places, such as Rudy's might be willing to help. Just need the volunteers like those who have stepped up in Collin County with the Alumni Collin County Chapter to bring these events to life. Those of us who do volunteer...do it because we love doing it....but, we need help...we need more people to step up and help. Lots of folks offer suggestions for what someone else should do or do better the next time. And, some of the suggestions are great and well thought out...some not so much. But, rarely do those doing the suggesting or asking step up to say..."hey, I'll get that watch party thing going in Tarrant County, Johnson County or at Rudy's in Denton, etc. Not complaining nor am I pointing fingers, just explaining that these things take time, money and volunteers....heck, even getting the word out at times can be time consuming enough. Would love to see watch parties all over the metroplex for every away game. Happy to help anyone get something going....we have some folks with some experience in doing this sort of thing and we can help...just cannot do it ALL. The other factor is turnout...it is hard to keep doing events when so few folks actually show up. The more folks turn out, the more viable doing these events becomes. Silver...hope this helps to better answer your question.1 point

Not sure the free market has much to do with non-profits. Second, the free market in anything is more a concept than a reality.1 point

The few cannot always do for the many. Folks who want this sort of thing to happen each and every time might want to consider joining with the few who do the majority of the work time and time again. Trust me...it is a little more work than most folks think. Love to do this, but just cannot do it every time. Would welcome any help that anyone would like to give...Silver? Greenjoe? Anyone? We are currently planning two other events..check out the Alumni area of GMG.Com if you haven't seen them as yet. Sorry we simply cannot do everything with the limited number of volunteers we can count on.....1 point

Well said. I just wish we could debate topics level headed, but then I realize this is GMG.com, and we can even agree on a damn logo.1 point

BS If Nick Saban were a coach at one of the lesser members of the FBS do you think that he would still advocate superconferences? This is all about the rich getting richer and the poor getting the hell out. You set a criteria for the Division 1A folks and then follow it. At one time to be a member you had to have a stadium of 30,000 and 17,000 average attendance. They didn't enforce it. Not only did they not enforce that they weakened the requirements. You could have a stadium of less that 30,000 if half of your conference met the requirements. Then they weakened the attendance factor to 15,000 once every two years. They haven't enforced those either. If they had sixty big schools then the winners would castigate the losers for not being competitive enough or having enough attendance and want a larger share. Greed has no place in college sports. My personal preference would be to have eight conferences with 12-16 teams in each conference. Set the requirements for the 96th most qualified based on some combination of stadium size, market size, attendance, revenue, and years of service in the highest division and enforce it. If any university falls below the minimum requirements for three consecutive years then they drop to the next level. At least everyone would know where they stand. I know, file this under 'it makes too much sense to ever happen' category but something needs to be done to curtail the greed.1 point

Last night in their playoff game against Montgomery, Dajon had 293 yards passing and 43 yds. running. He was injured in the 3rd quarter and did not return to the game. Connally won the game, I think the score was 33-13.1 point
