I'm very glad to hear the positive comments on these "proposed" uniforms. My past is in advertising art and present is 15+ years in sales and marketing. ....in sales....I have learned..."if it looks better it will sell better"...in ad art I learned that sometimes "less is more". I have always disliked the North Texas spelled out on the helmet. Also, not a fan of the "horn" stripe of any kind on pants or jerseys. "Horn stripes" are not old school or new school...just a bad idea on a football uniform. I chose to go with no stripes on pants...ala Texas, TCU & the old A&M looks. Heck even Texas high schools are going away from the "horn stripe" on shinny pants look. I wanted to "plus" our current uniform look...or simply "make them better" Here is my thinking and catalyst for creating them. (with the photoshop help of my very talented nephew and his Master's Degree from S.C.A.D.) 1. We have new state of the art stadium...this thing is awesome! 2. We have a new great coach..."sunglasses & muscles" who does'nt love Mac 3. We are entering into C-USA next year...how cool is that ? 4. We need an updated look that both appeals to our fan base and the young recruits. "a little swagger for the team" Reason for the "Letterman's Jacket" interlocking NT 1. It's a classic collegiate look. (i.e. UNC or NC, Auburn, Notre Dame "ND", Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Baylor, Colorado, Houston, Indiana, USC or Southern California using interlocking SC on v-neck of jerseys) "we should not put UNT on everything. Texas does not put UT on a baseball hat. North Carolina does not put UNC on a baseball hat" 2. "If we want to be a little bigger...we need a bigger mark"...less of the UNT,FIU, FAU, WKU, UAB, UCF, ECU etc... 3. No other University has the interlocking NT 4. NT is perfectly balanced and symmetrical...makes a great brand or mark for: car emblems, jackets, hats, suit pins, cuff links, golf balls, cups, coozies, shirts, etc... 5. We used to have it on helmet back in the Mean Joe Green days. "it ties the old with the new" 6. the NT scale for helmet was inspired by Texas A&M's "T" ....really glad we're green and not maroon....can you imagine the "horror" of being saddled with worst color in college football? 7. there are lots of eagles flying around but no "NT" or "Mean Green" 8. think North Carolina in green 9. not a rebrand but our school needs to add the interlocked NT as an additional mark...this will increase mercandising sales. Reason for the "Green with Black Accents" 1. They look great together. 2. It's current and looks less 1970's and 1980's 3. NT already uses in our other sports and it's on our football field. Reason for Updated Green 1. We are the "Mean Green" right? why not brand a cool "mean green" color 2. It's a cross of our old "flying worm" apple green, kelly green and "Monster Energry Drink/Kawasaki" green 3. Really..anything less "dull" green will work...a little "wow" factor green...add a "Mean Green" pantone to our unt pantone 4. "Mean Green" words to be placed on front of helmet with the "nameplate" decal or back bottem helmet decal Reason for 3rd option or Special "Black Uniform" 1. Watching the Tuesday Oct 16th night NT game "in my hotel room in NC"....I was thinking how cool would it be to have a special "tv night game" or "rival' jersey. 2. Helps with recruiting. 3. I don't want us to always wear all black...that's not it at all....just for a "special" game. say...SMU? Reason for State of Texas stamp on the under shirt 1. Tastefully eliminates the need to "spell out" North Texas on the helmet. 2. Would need to keep it simple and green...no numbers, logos, words, no outlines I'm trying to get a green on white and green on green mock up done...we'll see? if so....I'll post. again...thanks for the positive comments! What's your point? I'm sure they'd be thrilled with a job where they got paid $10 and didn't do anything but walk around and stock shelves. And I'm not complaining about making $10 as a cop. Guess what? I currently volunteer, which means I DON'T get any pay. I just don't think they have any valid complaint when there are people that get paid well below their worth and have much tougher jobs. I guess I can't make some of you understand this, but at least I tried. Also, I worked at Oshman's (now Sport's Authority) for 2 and a half years while I was in college and left right after I graduated. I sold exercise equipment. I got a degree in kinesiology and they wouldn't even pay me $8/hr for a job in which I used my education which cost me THOUSANDS to obtaion. Did I bitch? No, I walked in, stated why I deserved a raise, got denied, and went and found a better damn job.2 points

People who vote are all, "This is socialism!" or "That isn't socialism" and "This isn't fair" or "That isn't fair." The thing is, who gives a crap? Just ignore the people who are too lazy to work and get ahead in life. In fact, celebrate it because they are not competing with you. They accpet whatever small pay they get for their job, plus whatever fixed amount the government pays them to be lazy. They will never compete with you. You will always have more. You will always be more because you realize that you control your life and career. If they want to feel they are at the whim of the rich, let them feel that way. That mindset will never allow them to do any better than working at places like Wal-mart. Just let them be what they are...and, be nice to them when you forget what aisle the cornbread is on and have to ask them.1 point

My son is a redshirt this year and came home this weekend. I took my dad hat off and put my coaching hat on as I walked him out to his truck Sunday morning as he was leaving for Denton and told him the following: This week of practice is going to be tougher than any fall two a days practice you ever had...no one on campus; you have had your butt handed to you; and pride is all you are playing for against WKU. He like everyone of his teammates gets discouraged from time to time until they look at the future of UNT and Coach Macs visions....see, Connor has never played on team that has lost more than 3 games in a season from 4th grade pee wee through his senior year in high school. I also remind him of his high school and where they were prior to the new head coach. There were many loosing seasons at Arlington Martin. When Bob Wager took over the head coaching job there were not immediate district championships, but there were more notches in the win column...beginning to sound familiar to UNT? Last year Connor played on a Martin team that had it's best record yet...12-2. 9 players going on to play D1 football and 3 playing D2 or 3 off of that team. Prior to Bob Wager taking the head football job, Martin was thought of as a baseball and girls volleyball school...it still it, but now it has the same respect on the football field. See more similarities with UNT? 7 years now and Bob Wager has taken Martin from where it was to now one of the most respected teams in Texas high school football. 7 YEARS.....!!!! Coach Mac has been here two years and has given UNT more wins...well some of you know the stats better than I. I know college football and its demands are different that high school when it comes to expectations on the football field from the booster members and the UNT community....and yes, I still look back at that Troy game and wonder what if...but I also look at a very, very young team that is in transition; and I think a transition that my son will be able to look back on and compare to his high school. Past players, I applaud your past success on and off the field. I hope these current, younger players look back at those great teams and individuals that put the blood, sweat and tears on Fouts to help in building what is UNT Football today with Apogee and the UNT Athletic facility. But when it is all said and done, I think Coach Mac will have turned this ship around where players like my son can stand with the great alumni / players in the past and be just as proud as ya'll are. #28 recruiting class that we turn into a #300 team?1 point

Not even ranked in D2. Just because they have beaten some name teams in past years doesn't make them good this year. Lost by 10 to Western Washington 5 days before the UT game. They were blown out by Illinois and UNC after beating Texas. Don't ease the pain for the Horns. They deserve it. (Why? I don't know.)1 point

These are the kind of teams NT needs to beat to make a good showing come tournament selection time. I'm not ready to start bashing Benford but I am close and I think there are a lot of others here who feel the same.1 point

Zero hope at St. Louis. Maybe a flicker of hope against Lehigh since we are at home. We will be lucky to score 20 points in the first half against St. Louis. They play great defense all the time, not just in spurts. Combine that with our inability to hit shots, and you have the recipe for a blowout. If I were a betting man and the line was anything less than 16 points... Lehigh is a very good mid-major that will give us fits. They know how to get their potential lottery pick touches, and lots of them. 98 shots in 5 games for McCollum. Oh, and he is shooting .500 from both the 3 point line and overall. Hung 36 on Baylor and 35 on Fairfield. Low game was 17. Thankfully, they have had similiar showings in their shots at the big boys (although no loss to a D2 team) and they aren't very good defensively, so those are the only things that gives me a glimmer of hope. This team needs to play A LOT better to beat UTA, much less St. Louis or Lehigh.1 point

I will do nothing to give credibility to UTSA. I will never acknowledge them as our "rival". I'd rather look to Tulsa, UTEP, Tulane, or LA Tech. But you can't force rivalries. This is an interesting read: First, a good rivalry requires some degree of similarity between the rivals. In college sports, rival schools are typically quite similar to each other. Texas and Texas A&M; are both large state schools that draw a majority of their students from Texas. Harvard and Yale are both elite East Coast schools. Both of these are intense rivalries. Even though Texas and Rice play each other often, it is hard for either school to generate much enthusiasm for the game. The next ingredient is frequency. The schools need to meet head to head on a regular basis. In order to sustain the rituals around a rivalry, the teams need to play at least once a season. Growing up in New Jersey, Mets fans and Yankees fans were disdainful of each other, but there was no rivalry because there were no regular-season cross-league games at that point. The final ingredient is parity. In order for a rivalry to sustain itself, the teams have to be reasonably evenly matched over the long haul. If one team always beats the other, it is hard for the sides to maintain any excitement for the games. UT and A&M; traded off periods of dominance. When the NFL decided to realign its divisions several years ago, it was crucial to keep the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants and Redskins in the same division because these rivals were constantly rising and falling in their dominance. It was fine for the Cardinals to be sent to another division, however, because they were rarely a factor in divisional play and were not a strong rival for any of the other teams. By these criteria, UTSA is not even close to being a rival. We haven't played a single game, and there is no way to judge how close we are competitively. I would also add that rivalries are typically born out of controversy. Take our basketball series with UTA. November 15, 2006. When Jermaine Griffin stole that game in The Pit on a controversial call and we had no replay monitor to review the basket, that's when my hatred for UTA began.1 point

I propose sports leagues being operated as capitalist ventures will destroy themselves. Capitalism seeks to eliminate or diminish the competition, which is good for an individual firm. Sports leagues cannot exist without competitors, and in fact do better when competitors are on a more equal footing.1 point

My thoughts exactly. But this thing needs to start clicking quickly. If we do not get a signiature win in OOC play then the national media will not notice anymore what happens afterwards. If the national media don't notice, even if we get to the tournament, we will be stuck with a 14th seed at best in the tourney and with little chance to advance. It is as bad as this: if we end up with a 24-6 record and the signature win is MTSU, the signature loss to a D II team, then the comittee will not care at all that 24-6 looks nice. They will stick us as 14 or 15. This is not how a breakout year to become the regional powerhouse looks. This chance is probable to not come again for a looong time if it s squandered this time. Very, very frustrating.1 point

Coming up in 5 minutes. I gotta say, our rough start doesn't help. I'm sure other coaches were in his ear following our loss to a DII school & recent blowout defeats to Creighton & VA1 point

The few cannot always do for the many. Folks who want this sort of thing to happen each and every time might want to consider joining with the few who do the majority of the work time and time again. Trust me...it is a little more work than most folks think. Love to do this, but just cannot do it every time. Would welcome any help that anyone would like to give...Silver? Greenjoe? Anyone? We are currently planning two other events..check out the Alumni area of GMG.Com if you haven't seen them as yet. Sorry we simply cannot do everything with the limited number of volunteers we can count on.....1 point

Expect 30°s F weather at kickoff. It will be a cool day to sit outside motionless for 3½ hrs. Remember, KY is pretty far North compared to the rest of the Sunbelt Conf. and it can get cold here in Nov. Still mulling it over even though I only live a few miles from the stadium. Also, WKU games are especially annoying to attend because of the PA system. It almost never stops. Not just my opinion on that but many others I have spoken to. MTSU has a much better venue.1 point

UTA lost their top 2 scorers from last year. We play them at home. We should win this game. If we don't...1 point

I think the UTA game on Wed will tell us a *whole* lot about this team. It is a home game against a pretty tough opponent. We have 7 games under our belts, so we need to be able to go out and win this type of game. If the team is gelling at all and if things are coming together, this is a game you have to win.1 point

I don't think it will happen because of the college athletics industrial complex. These people chose this profession as a career path and they won't support s system that would cut their employment opportunities in half. Look at some "Tier 2" head coaches. Dennis Franchione, Bowden, McCarney, Schellenberger, Solich, etc. etc. Athletic Directors are retreads too. Ditto to college president's. These jobs don't last forever and they would be limiting their opportunities for future employment if they did this. Saban believes his own hype - he was a bust for the Miami Dolphins when the talent level isn't so glaringly different.1 point

While I would never want us to take a step back again, I have to admit to really enjoying the FCS playoff system more than the bowls (even though NT was winless in the 1AA playoffs at the time). At least they crown a real champion and not a paper one. I hate what has happened to college football (greed). And, the outlook is not getting any better.1 point

There is much more to basketball than offense. Defense and rebounding are huge concerns so far. Put your head in the sand if you want, but this thing has problems. JJ has nothing to do with the here and now. Let him go, people.1 point

We might be better-suited for long-term success as a football power than UH. Denton is a college town. Houston is not. Houston won't ever shake the commuter stigma and North Texas has made TREMENDOUS strides in that area in the past decade. Sure, Houston has history on it's side. It has Heisman winners. It's been ranked in the top-five. They've had big wins over big programs. Yet here they stand, on their way to a shaky conference (that no one in this state gives a damn about) after another coach has left for a better job down the road. All of that success hasn't translated into anything of note. Yet we haven't any idea how it would affect NT because quite frankly, it's never happened. Sure the Sun Belt titles were great, but casual fans thought that was a 1AA conference during most of that time. We were never ranked. We never beat a ranked team. We really haven't done anything in the same time period that UH has done a lot, and yet we're still viewed as "peer" athletic programs. I think that is significant. Denton is far enough away from the "big city" that a true college experience- the one we romanticize- can still be found. And if this drugged-up giant ever awakes, it will be a lot of fun to see what happens.1 point

Like it or not..uni's are part of the package for recruits. Facilities, coaches, uni's...they are a factor. It is what it is.1 point

I love NT fans. The university puts $80M into a new stadium, no telling how much into an athletic complex, hires actual Division I coaching staffs, & moves up from a basement-level conference to a respectable mid-level cUSA and still we indulge ourselves with whining and weeping. Our university is progressing just fine. Our athletics will be just fine. Neither is asleep, neither is moribund, we just have a few fans who are incapable of seeing a glass as half-full. Nor can they see the pitcher poised to fill that glass to over-flowing.1 point

25 regular season games left. I bet this team wins at least 18 of them to finish with at least 21 wins. Plus, the SBC seems a little weaker this year IMO. Benford is going to end up being a really good coach for us. This is a disappointing start for sure. But, expectations were probably a little high around here anyway A 21-10 record is more than reachable for this team. They will pick it up, especially at home. UTA has been our nemesis. We need to step it up a notch next wednesday.1 point

The Uni's look great. They fit my criteria for a great University uni and/or gear. It's bold, it's clear, it showcases the school colors (except for the black) and it's not too busy......although these do get pretty close to being a bit too busy.1 point
