It may be a little redundant, and it may still be football season, but I felt those uniforms deserved a discussion thread. Black football uniforms still leave a bad taste in my mouth . . . but if we were to use an alternate 3rd black uniforms, that would be the uniform I would want. Awesome job, 817 Fan. Welcome to the board. Now that you're here, learn how to read. Nobody has called for Clarke to transfer. Pretty much to a man, we all feel that he will EVENTUALLY develop into a good, C-USA level basketball player. But your basketball IQ is lower than Clarke's shooting percentage if you've watched the first 5 games and have come to any other conclusion than that the game is just moving too fast for him and that the best thing for his long-term development would be to be brought along slowly. It's not Clarke's fault. Walton's injury forced Benford's hand...but it shouldn't have forced him in when the Creighton game was still in shouting range, nor should it have forced his hand to play him late in the UAH debacle. That's coaching... But...if you're going to be a D-1 contributor you also have to take advantage of your opportunities...and Clarke hasn't...most notably his 0-6 performance in what should've been a no pressure game against Cameron. Obviously Clarke was a good shooter in high school and AAU...that's why he has a division 1 scholarship. Now that he has that scholarship though, no one gives two flips what he did in high school...this isn't an Argyle fan-board, it's a UNT fan-board...and UNT players and coaches are open to criticism. So it may not prove the best place for an overly-sensitive individual...especially not one with such close ties to the subject of criticism, don't ya think?6 points

My son is a redshirt this year and came home this weekend. I took my dad hat off and put my coaching hat on as I walked him out to his truck Sunday morning as he was leaving for Denton and told him the following: This week of practice is going to be tougher than any fall two a days practice you ever had...no one on campus; you have had your butt handed to you; and pride is all you are playing for against WKU. He like everyone of his teammates gets discouraged from time to time until they look at the future of UNT and Coach Macs visions....see, Connor has never played on team that has lost more than 3 games in a season from 4th grade pee wee through his senior year in high school. I also remind him of his high school and where they were prior to the new head coach. There were many loosing seasons at Arlington Martin. When Bob Wager took over the head coaching job there were not immediate district championships, but there were more notches in the win column...beginning to sound familiar to UNT? Last year Connor played on a Martin team that had it's best record yet...12-2. 9 players going on to play D1 football and 3 playing D2 or 3 off of that team. Prior to Bob Wager taking the head football job, Martin was thought of as a baseball and girls volleyball school...it still it, but now it has the same respect on the football field. See more similarities with UNT? 7 years now and Bob Wager has taken Martin from where it was to now one of the most respected teams in Texas high school football. 7 YEARS.....!!!! Coach Mac has been here two years and has given UNT more wins...well some of you know the stats better than I. I know college football and its demands are different that high school when it comes to expectations on the football field from the booster members and the UNT community....and yes, I still look back at that Troy game and wonder what if...but I also look at a very, very young team that is in transition; and I think a transition that my son will be able to look back on and compare to his high school. Past players, I applaud your past success on and off the field. I hope these current, younger players look back at those great teams and individuals that put the blood, sweat and tears on Fouts to help in building what is UNT Football today with Apogee and the UNT Athletic facility. But when it is all said and done, I think Coach Mac will have turned this ship around where players like my son can stand with the great alumni / players in the past and be just as proud as ya'll are. A shooter needs two things to get his shot off...time and space...and a third thing to get it to drop consistently...confidence. Give a shooter time and space and he'll give you a confident stroke. A shooter's concept of what time and space means to him changes as he develops and progresses, however...in high school perhaps give Clarke an open second and a foot of space and he'll give you a confident stroke. The college game won't give him that much time and space though...say its a half-second and six inches of space at the next level...can Clarke still hit shots with that much time and space? Sure...but right now he's not confident that he can. 1 for 17 isn't a a bad-luck slump...it's a lack of confidence and that, IMO, stems from his being a bit overwhelmed by the speed of the game happening around him.4 points

You people are crazy. You hate re-branding and the constant changing of our colors, yet you want a logo on our helmet that isn't even one of our athletic department's or schools logos? I cannot compute that. I like the looks but either use the SOW or the UNT that is the school's official logos.4 points

I'm glad these are getting a positive response. The credit however goes to my good friend Jim. -He's not on this board, so I posted them. His idea is simple but sound. New conference, new brand. Personally, I like the use of the inter-locking NT on the helmet. I think we're beyond the point where we have to spell out the name of our school on the helmet. I know he has sent these mock ups to the administration. -Not sure how they went over. Hopefully they'll find some traction, I'm sure the kids would enjoy playing in them. GMG4 points

I know it has only been 5 games, but this is something that has improved thus far under Benford. So far, we have 79 assists to only 59 turnovers(1.34 to 1). Last year, we had 385 assists to 464 turnovers(.83 to 1). Tony has really cut down on his turnovers. Last year he was up around 3 per game, and so far he only has 6 through 5 games. If this is a trend and not just a flash in the pan, then it's a very good sign of things to come. Last year, only 13 teams finished with a ratio of 1.34 to 1 or better, and only 1 of those teams, Northwestern, didn't get to go dancing. Go Mean Green!4 points

First of all, relax. Stop calling people idiots and use your words to construct an argument that actually makes sense... ...and is based on actual, real statistics. Jordan Williams has not shot 8-20 from 3. (That would be 40% ... which would be, ya know, good ... ) He has shot 4-20. (20% ... bad ... but obviously not as bad as Clarke's 6.25%) Oddly enough, if you had used the actual statistic it would have better supported your argument, as weak as it is. (prior to today) Tony: 6-11, 54.5% Jacob: 3-4, 75% Yes, those are small sample sizes, but I'm just pointing out that you seem to be angrily pulling things out of nowhere while spouting "idiots" more than once. Makes you look hypocritical IMHO. Sorry. These comparisons simply don't make sense. AAU =/= NCAA D1 ball. 3A High School CERTAINLY =/= NCAA D1 ball. More importantly, Benford publicly said in an interview (essentially) that Clarke is a defensive liability. He said something along the lines of "[Clarke] needs to learn to guard somebody." There is video footage of that. In your own words "do your homework before posting." I could be wrong, but I don't believe anyone has blamed our perceived underachieving thus far on Clarke. That would be ridiculous. We've had other, bigger issues, clearly. We are (or SHOULD be) questioning whether he is ready to fill the role that it would be very beneficial for him to fill this season -- right now -- given the injury to Walton, TJ's ineligibility, the fact Alzee is not a deep threat, etc. etc. Yes, obviously calling for him to transfer, quit, or have his scholarship pulled is incredibly extreme at this point. I'm with you there. Eagerly awaiting your response, An Idiot With A Low Basketball IQ4 points

It won't come easy but we should be able to slip into that Virginia and do some scoring. I'd really like for us to pound that Virginia. Hard. We'll have to keep our balls moving and I think the team is up for it.3 points

I don't know why you guys are picking on this dude. I mean, sure, he forgot to say lunchpail but aside from that the checklist is complete. Let's see we've got... "Not the athlete you all want to see" "One of the smartest kids on the floor" " 9/10 in the right position to make a play." P.S. I'm really looking forward to putting him in when it's over.3 points

It really irritates me that we will never go to a look like this. This is quite possibly the best uniform concept I have seen so far. Why the AD believes that having the letters "NORTH TEXAS" spelled out on the helmet would give us more brand recognition than "NT", just absolutely boggles my mind. Who looks at the helmet to figure out what team is playing? Its displayed on the screen for the entire duration of the game for christ's sake. Usually next to a number that is lower than the other team's number. I also don't understand what the big deal is about having black on the uniform... "But, its not a school color?!!!" Who cares? It looks badass.3 points

ESPN story: The talks originated after last week's decision in Denver by the BCS commissioners to award an automatic access bowl berth to the highest-rated champion to the "Group of Five" conferences. That decision in essence put the Mountain West on equal footing, as far as playoff access is concerned, with the Big East starting in 2014. The "Group of Five" includes the Mountain West, Big East, Conference USA, Mid-American and Sun Belt conferences. Since these conferences essentially are on equal footing, these conferences should be built completely on regional lines. This is in essence the "mom and pop" vs Walmart. Compete by minimizing your costs (travel) and creating as much free publicity as possible (nearby rivalries). Negotiate conference deals with the regional sports networks and build cross-conference non-conference games that build connections with the other regional networks, i.e. Sun Belt vs MAC, Mtn West vs CUSA, CUSA vs Sun Belt, Big East vs MAC, etc. Or perhaps better yet, perhaps the Group of Five negotiate with the major networks, collectively, to provide a true national contract ("game of the week") and conferences then go regional to maximize local exposure. Throw in the attraction of scheduling a military academy every other year or so. Play two non-conferences against other Group of Fives and one against an elite program. By minimizing the number of elite games, collectively, the Group of Fives can command higher per-game bounties when playing the elites. The elites get tired of beating up on each other, seek additional Group of Five games and the price goes up until the Group of Fives collectively agree to schedule another bounty game. I am sure this plan is filled with flaws, read that MONEY, but why not build truly regional conferences that compete against each other. GMG3 points

I cannot believe the level of basketball IQ in this forum. Saying a kid should transfer, quit, lose his scholarship for being in a shooting slump?! Idiots. Jordan williams is 8-20 from 3 this this year and 18-48 from the field. I wouldnt call that shooting a high percentage. Even you basketball "experts" can figure that out. Our All-American isnt even averaging a double double this year, that would be deemed under achieving as well in my mind. But instead, you pick on a freshman who hasnt even played 5 college games yet, who is playing big minutes and taking shots that the team needs him to take and he will eventually make. The kid is in a slump, Brandon had a similar slump last year and nobody on this team is shooting well from deep this year. So point your finger at the freshman? This isnt right. If you will watch film and see his stats from high school, AAU and this year, you geniuses should also be able to figure out that he is the opposite of a defensive liability. Just becasue he isnt flying above the rim swatting shots out of bounds like Tony, doesnt make him a bad defender. Sure he isnt the athlete that maybe you all want to see, but he is one of the smartest kids on the floor and 9/10 in the right position to make a play. His form, his game and the kid himself are too good to struggle much longer and I can't wait to see you all jump on the bandwagon once it starts rolling. Do your homework before you post, u idiots.3 points

The concept is not a total re-branding campaign as well. The SOW is still on the field. North Texas is still embroidered on the front of the jersey. -Not to mention the end zones of our field are black. -so why not incorporate some black in the unis? My .02 cents2 points

Yes I watched the game. I said slumping, he did not shoot well, where was the "defensive liability?" IQ has nothing to do with a white kid or any other kid. Its how they play and have played. Pulling the race card is another reason this forum is just full of the right kind of fans. You can absolutley say something if the whole season goes this way, but to be on a kid this early isnt right.2 points
