  1. Cause D2 teams can't compete with D1.

  2. SMU 67 NT 63 NT girls played better than the first game, but behind 55-56 with a little over 2 minutes left became unraveled and fell behind 7, SMU did shoot about three times the free throws as NT. Dawkins and Hyder leading scorers with 15 and 13 points. I thought a good game by Hanna Christian running the point. I think this team will be very good by the time the Belt rolls around. Maybe not MTSU good but could challenge in the West.

  3. You know that playbook that Chico and Mac won't open up because our offense isn't capable of executing it? Screw it, let's try it the last two games. What's the worst that can happen? Guaranteed we don't win out using the same 1 yard rush approach we've been stuck in all season. I realize the percentages are woefully low, but hey, maybe we catch lightning in a bottle (or, you know, the ball).

No more belief in your ability until you show me a reason to believe you belong in the head coaching ranks. Show me.

  11. What I am saying is it doesn't matter if we recruit 4* DBs and don't get the down linemen. No one can cover four eight seconds. But you can get away with having 2* DBs if you have a solid line. We need the linemen to win. We don't get them, we don't win, IMHO.

  20. if you are so obsessed with UT you should have tried harder to get accepted there and the idea that a single season somehow erases all that UT has accomplished over the last decade+ VS A&M is just a complete joke made by a fool let me know when A&M has a national championship and plays for another one.....let me know when A&M plays in or wins a BCS game much less several the last time A&M won more than 9 games in a season was 1998 UT has done it 9 times since then and could do it again this year with a win over TCU and a bowl win A&M is 0-1 in BCS games from back in 1999....UT is 3-1 with two of them being for the national championship if you think this single season will erase all of that you are just a fool and the worst part of your post is that you pretend as though somehow A&M gives a crap about north Texas or does not try and "keep north Texas down" more than "UT does" and you pretend as though A&M would not trade places with UT in terms of athletics budget and revenues or that A&M was somehow looking out for the little guy when they went to the SEC hell A&M cares so much about lil' ole' north Texas so much they are 7-0 against you, the only time they played you out of College station was in Irving 1 time and they have not bothered to play you since 1998 while UT is 9-0 against north Texas and has played them 3 times since 1998 *anyone see a pattern here quick Kevin get Rick on the scheduling hotline here is a huge clue SMU could fall off the face of the earth, UT could go win less and A&M could fall off the planet or win a MNC and it will have next to no effect on north Texas if any other than the fans will have a few less boogie men to try and slay while ignoring the realities of their own program

  21. current classification: Player DT's Jr: Richard Abbe - contributor So: Joe Astorga - haven't noticed him Jr: Ryan Boutwell - contributor Sr: Tevinn Cantly - gone Fr: Mustafa Haboul - redshirting Fr: Dylan McDorman - redshirting Fr: Sir Calvin Wallace - redshirting +1 new recruit than can step in immediately, and we are still short handed here... injuries would leave us very very shorthanded again, and they happen every year. I am intrigued by the 3 redshirts though...plus austin orr moving to DT, if he can stay healthy. maybe that's a reach. DE's Jr: Aaron Bellazin - contributor Fr: Malik Dilonga - redshirting Fr: Brad Horton - redshirting So: Alexander Lincoln - contributor So: Daryl Mason - contributor Jr: Brandon McCoy - contributor Sr: K.C. Obi - gone RFr: Austin Orr - injured, might be moving to DT? Fr: Dutton Watson - redshirting I feel good about DE(atleast better than DT). Just hope the redshirts can come in a make an impact. As with DT's, injuries can make this list look really thin very quickly, and these injuries happen every year. WR's RSr: Christopher Bynes - gone Jr: Carl Caldwell - ?? So: John Chelf - xfer, hearing good things? Sr: Ivan Delgado - gone Fr: Carlos Harris - contributor So: Willie Hubbard - ?? Fr: Roderick Lancaster - redshirting Jr: Lynrick Pleasant - ?? Fr: Steven Rivera - ?? RFr: Chaz Sampson - possibly leaving, noncontributor Fr: Nick Schrapps - redshirting Jr: Darnell Smith - contributor So: Derrick Teegarden - ?? Jr: Darius Terrell - xfer, hearing good things? I think WR will be better next year, but we shall see. Having Chancellor and Harris...plus Terrell and Chelf? I think we should be good right there. Any contributions from the redshirts would be gravy, right? If we can just add a guy that can flat out fly and catch the ball...hmmmmm...... I have been sitting with a buddy of mine that played TE for UNT and he yells at thompson nearly every play. Says that thompson doesn't deliver the ball when the WR is open on nearly every play. I hadn't noticed it until I had him walk me through some plays. It seems fairly obvious to me now. Couple this with the misthrows, I am now convinced that we can upgrade. If Thompson did end up as our backup, I think our offense COULD end up being much better next year with that solid O-line and running game. I'm already convincing myself that next year is when we will see REAL progress. When Mac's 1st and 2nd classes are able to come in and get a year or 2 under their belts in this system, I feel like this is where it SHOULD get a bunch better... The only thing I know for sure is that I'll get to see 6 home games next year, and when we are in cusa, our games should be on TV more often. So, we should atleast get to see how wrong I am with my assessment. I predicted 7 and 6 this year, losing a bowl game... I suppose we could still get there if we won out, and won the bowl game, but I'm not holding my breath. Go Mean Green.

  22. “You have to show that you can help us win games,” McCarney said. “Does that mean you have to be an NFL draft pick? No. Does that mean you can continue to sit in the program and never help us? No. That means I made a mistake in bringing you here and you made a mistake in coming here.” Look...didn't most of us expect us to finish with a 4-8 or 5-7 record? My prediction was 5-7, but that 4-8 wouldn't shock me as much as 6-6. The truth is, when you looked up and down this roster, the depth wasn't there in key places: (1) The defensive line depth was glaring. It doesn't matter that you have a guy or two that is "good." You have to have bodies to rotate in there because this is perhaps the toughest position, physically, to play - day in and day out, week in and week out, year in and year out. (2) The entire starting secondary and many its backups had graduated/used up their eligibility. Are there some good, young athletes there? Yes. But, replacing all four starters in the secondary was going to spell trouble along the way. (3) The talent at wide receiver was not especially good, and needed two to three people to really step it up. I think we've all been pleasantly surprised that the run game didn't suffer a drop off with the losses of Lance Dunbar and James Hamilton. We have a bright future there. I think the surprise disappointments were the early season special teams struggles and the lack of development in the wide receiver corp. QB has been debated ad infinitum, as the QB position always is at any level on any team during any season. There was a time in Football History when people wondered whether Steve Walsh or Troy Aikman was the future of the Dallas Cowboys. (You forgot already that in 1989 Walsh was 1-4 as a starter for Dallas, and Troy was 0-11?...Walsh's QB rating 60.5 for the season, Aikman's 55.7...really.) I think, as many do, the game is won and lost "in the trenches." Our offense trench seems to be set well for the next two to three seasons. We are deep at running back. We seem to be deep at...tight end! I'll argue that with Thompson you have an experienced leader; and, in Berglund, you have a guy whose talent was recognized at one point in his life with scholarship offers from Kansas State, Boise State, Tulsa, UCLA, and Utah...schools that have a pretty decent bowl appearance record over the past decade or so. I think we're set there no matter who wins the position next spring and fall - and, there will be a quality backup. That leaves me with this, as I've said before: (1) We need depth on the defensive line. (2) We need more true playmakers at receiver. I don't think Dan is that far off. I know it stings him and us to be losing. But, let's face it...we're right where many of us thought we would be anyway. Here's to hoping the 2013 signing day delivers three or four DTs and two to three WRs who can step in a contribute immediately. I know Dan is healthy, even given his slight setback last year. So, at this juncture in his life and career - and in UNT's, given the step up to C-USA impending - I don't see the point in redshirting talent that can be on the field helping. Get guy who can help on the field from the get go.

  33. Football is won/lost at the line. It's no coincidence Dickey's bowl teams set the high water mark for success in the modern era. Look at the defensive linemen we had: Booger Kennedy, Mike Pruitt,Adrian Awasome, Darrell Daniels, Sky Pruitt, Evan Cardwell, etc. If we want to win we need linemen. One of the most exciting things about hiring Coach Mac was his record with defensive linemen. This program HAS to start recruit more studs on both sides of the line. The other "skill" positions are great, but they can only do their jobs when the guys who start the plays with their hands on the ground are doing what they are there to do.

  35. OK. But the problem there is convincing the quality guys to come to Denton. We're a middle-of-the-pack SBC team. When we move up to C-USA, we may be closer to the bottom of the barrel. Hopefully coach McCarney can get his guys coached up and healthy for next season.

  36. About the same time that losing the popular vote and just winning the electoral college in 2000 was a mandate. This country is way to divided. Too much Red State vs. Blue State, Left vs. Right, Liberal vs. Conservative. The country is head ti hell in a handbasket if we don't work together. The country needs to work together to but the US back in USA.

  38. I'm with you 100% on this Harry. Everyone is completely overreacting to this loss as if we just lost an internationally televised game that decides which school's students gets free tuition for a year against the Southwestern Oklahoma School for the Blind and Deaf. This loss cost us an opportunity to play KState on national television. That's all it did. It didn't cost us an at large, it didn't cost us our conference season, it didn't cost us our lottery pick, it didn't cost us anything other than that opportunity. Does it hurt? Is it an absolutely humiliating loss? Should Benford be ashamed of himself and his team? Should the players be ashamed? Hell to the yes for all of those. Do we all need to take a step back and realize a few things, like that there are 28 games left, games against Lehigh, St Louis, and Virginia left? That this game doesn't affect our RPI directly? That this is still a team with a lot of pieces who haven't had game-time to get into the flow of things with each other, a team with a new coach and new system? Yes. Yes we do. Relax everyone. It would have been time to hit the panic button had we lost to Lamar and then Cameron. We're 1-1 in games we should win, and 0-1 against better teams. Doesn't seem too bad when you look at it that way, does it? UAH is a name, but it goes on the record as just an L. 99% of the world doesn't even know the game happened. Chiillllll oouuutttttt... Last note: Stop the comparisons of KState dismantling UAH to our loss to them. COMPLETELY unrelated. In one case, you have UAH playing the game of their lives, shooting the lights out better than they probably ever have before, putting 150% energy into this game since it's been touted as the biggest game of their lives, etc. And you have UNT coming off of a 20 point loss to a top 15 team to play a D2 school, looking ahead to the matchup with KState, lost a couple key guys to injury, TERRIBLE shooting night on top of that, etc etc etc. Result? UAH barely escapes with a win. Next game, UAH is completely exhausted, lacks the motivation they had since they did what they set out to do already, and has the worst shooting night of their careers against a damn good team that is a lot better than the team they played the night before. What the frig did you expect UAH to do to KState? Of course they were going to get demolished. Just take a deep breath, come see UNT beat the shit out of Cameron on Friday, and move on with your lives. Before long, we'll be beating UTA by 20 and then steamrolling through conference play like we expected.

  39. I'm gonna be candid here. You're like a whiny little girl who didn't get her way. It was one game. We lost by 3 points. Had anyone on the team other than JW had remembered the object of the game is to put the ball IN the basket, we'd have won by 25. Any normal shooting night from both sides, we win by 30+. Re-f*cking-lax dude.

  40. The deal is, we were in the preseason NIT at what was supposed to be the perfect timing for this program. Supposedly one of the most talented teams ever at UNT playing in a national tournament at just the right time, with a great draw and a chance to actually make it to NY. All that was wasted in what has to be the most disappointing loss in UNT history in any sport. Harry, I understand where you are coming from, but the problem is Coach Benford promised us better defense, rebounding, on the ball defense, and transition basketball. Every one of those areas has been worse. Can this team recover and become stronger in those areas than in previous years? Maybe. Will it recover by the Lehigh and St. Louis game? Highly, highly doubtful. So, we are basically left with the same old crap, which is hoping to win the conference tournament in order to get a play in game to the big dance. This team was supposed to be better than that. Many basketball experts predicted as much. It is, well, at this point, was Coach Benford's job to get us there. He has failed miserably up to this point. To see a team many of us (and basketball "experts") thought was capable of a national ranking lose to a D2 school, and then watch that same D2 school lose to K St. BY 60 FREAKING POINTS is probably the worse thing that has happened around here in 10 plus years. Yes, worse than the Dodge era. Worse than black jersey gate. Worse than the Tulsa loss at home. So much was expected of this team, not only by it's fan base,, but by many in the basketball press. Those expectations have been obliterated, and that is not only disappointing, but it hurts the program. No more national press. Hell, no more mention on local sports radio. Yet another chance for disconnected alumni to remain that way. After 2 games under Benford. Can things get better this year? Yes. Will they ever come within 100 miles of what they could have been? No. Rant over.

  41. So we needed a questionable call to go our way in order to secure a game against a team that is basically 1-AA? What a proud moment for a program that is going to celebrate it's 100th anniversary next year.

  43. While the underlying global causes of the water shortage in Pakistan probably require research, it's intellectually dishonest to point to their shortage as a climate change issue while ignoring the regional population explosion in India, Pakistan, and surrounding areas and how that led to EVERYONE BUT PAKISTAN funding dam projects and building a crap-ton (scientific terms) of dams along rivers (many of which are regionally disputed). Even still, during India's water crisis, they admitted that rainfall was sufficient, but that they didn't properly manage their resources. Richard Seager has probably done the most research on the subject. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/science/earth/02drought.html?_r=0 What happened in Pakistan is that they abandoned reservoir projects, and those around them didn't. Exacerbated a problem that Pakistan had been warned about since the early 2000s.
