I would refer you to the 50 point a$$ pounding we experienced on the stage at UTA last year and beg you to reconsider. And UTA was not a top 25 team.4 points

I never liked the idea that a 6-win team can get into a bowl. But I love the idea of a Mean Green team getting 6 wins.4 points

Wednesday, (November 14, 2012) is the start of the early signing period (through November 21st) for Men & Women's Hoops. Decided to take a short drive down south today to Corsicana to watch Norris' Midland Chaps play Trinity Valley in the first game of a doubleheader. Norris is trying to get his grades in order and I'm not sure if he will sign early or not. On the court today, Norris had 4 points with about 10 minutes left in the game when I left. Not a great player but may find time in the rotation. Didn't start and only played about 2 minutes in the first half. Coach inserted him in the game with about 9 minutes in the first half and pull him 1 minute later. Came back later in the half and was pulled again after about 1 minute. Didn't score or take a shot the brief time he played in the first half. Started the 2nd half and played with alot of energy. Missed 1 outside shot badly but came back with the dunk of the game about 3 minutes later. Kid caught a pass right under the goal and quickly went up with a windmill left handed dunk. Missed the only free throw he attempted. Despite not playing much he appeared to be a leader on the floor. Hustles well, good passer and unselfish. Midland didn't have a lot of height so Norris played against a taller 4 but switched to the 3 at times. He will have to play the small forward position here as he does not have the bulk or strength to bang inside. Overall, will not be an impact guy for us but should see the floor. Jerion Henry, former Kimball All-State forward and Jordan Williams' teammate, was in street clothes on the TVCC bench. Henry verballed to USC in high school but didn't have the grades and ended up at some prep school last year (I think). Verballed or signed with OU earlier this year. Anyway, not sure if he was joking but he expressed some interest in UNT on twitter his senior year. There was some discussion on here that 2-time state tournament MVP, Shannon Lilly of Dallas Kimball was considering walking on at UNT. Anyway, Lilly plays for Navarro. Had a very brief chat with him prior to their game against Texas Wesleyan's (JV) .3 points

If UNT makes a bowl game in 2013, he buys season tickets. If they don't make a bowl game, I buy him season tickets. Mean green nation is now plus 1.2 points

We struggle to beat USA by 10 and we're talking about getting to or declining bowl games? I'm glad we won but outside of 2 plays on offense we were not appreciably better than the team we just played.2 points

Congrats to Thor and Mrs. Thor. They won the dance off during a break in the game, earning them a trip to the Bahamas or something like that. Nice moves.2 points

Whether or not we get in a bowl is way down my list. First, we would have to win next week (we will not be favored). Second, we would have to win the week after that (we will not be favored). Third, see what happens at that point. But hey, it sure is nice to still be talking about it in mid November for a change! Back to back home winning records. Nice.2 points

actually there are plenty of fans on this forum that would love to avoid games with UTSA and TxState until they "pay their dues" which seems to mean suck for a decade and a half in crappy conferences that you are begging other conferences to get out of as fast as you can so you can start bad mouthing them as well I gagree with points 1 and 3 though2 points

A 2001 study evaluating the impact of marijuana intoxication on driving proficiency on city streets among sixteen subjects reported essentially no differences in subjects' driving performance after cannabis administration, concluding: "Performance as rated on the Driving Proficiency Scale did not differ between treatments. It was concluded that the effects of low doses of THC ... on higher-level driving skills as measured in the present study are minimal." Similarly, a 1993 trial funded by the United States National Highway Traffic Association (NTHSA) evaluated subjects' driving performance after cannabis inhalation in high-density urban traffic. Investigators reported, "Marijuana ... did not significantly change mean driving performance."2 points

It's cool, your intelligence level and quick to judge tendencies on your part speak volumes about you. Nice job being one of the few keeping UNT small time. The small time mentality here is hilarious. All y'all do is alienate the students and create tension. NT is a far different beast than when you went here, and all your whining and complaining shows that you are out of touch with your school. It happens to administration in businesses all the time, so no surprise. Every other school adds some sort of chant like that to their song, why are we so special that it's not allowed? Small time mentality. I always thought that UNT was different than the DFW mentality, and it is, among the students and younger alumni. This place? Not so much. A bunch of out of touch old timers clinging on to the minor success of the 70s unable to see a bright future. Stop being small time.2 points

I was commenting on Glick's post, especially the bolded portion. glick1980, on 10 November 2012 - 08:11 AM, said: In a game where 3 seniors really didn't play due to injury (Holeman - 12 minutes, Walton - 1 minute, and Patton - out) and our two best players were hit with questionable fouls that landed them on the bench, this outcome was not unexpected. I don't think we ever had such a poor game offensively under JJ.1 point

Ok...Tony Mitchell was not playing in the UTA game and CJ and JWilliams were very inexperienced at that stage. Plus, that was a horrendous game that nobody wants to even remember. The team this year has higher expectations for a reason. Until they get key wins, we can't believe the team will meet those expectations. Nobody was expecting a win (well, maybe some) but a loss like this was unacceptable for a team of this caliber, which should be playing more disciplined BB.1 point

I have one piece of advice to people regarding Berglund, and that is don't categorize him with other players. Don't categorize him with other players who have gotten in law trouble, other players who have transferred multiple times, etc. Let him be who he is, Brock Berglund. He's a good guy who is very driven by the opportunity God has given him. You're right, the jury is still out on Berglund but he has the potential. There is no denying his skills. You say to "don't go there" urging us not to suggest Berglund based on nothing, yet you do "go there" as for criticizing him based on nothing. The truth is, he has arm strength and athleticism that far outclasses that of Derek Thompson. This will open up the playbook greatly compared to what we have been able to run this year. The one thing Thompson has done a decent job of in his career is not turning the ball over. This means to me that we at least will have a backup that won't come in there and just lose the game for us by turning the ball over. We'll see in spring ball, but the good thing is we have options for once.1 point

USA beat themselves often and penalties saved us often. The play calling was just terrible...ran on just about every 1st down...I can't count the number of 2nds and 8 - 13 yrds...if we don't have the playmakers on the field , then why are do we continue to throw the fade...why are we not throwing more 5-10 yrd slants...I don't recall seeing any misdirection plays and we didn't have a pass rush until the 4th qtr....and once again our secondary leaves receivers 10 yrds open...they repeatedly made 3rd and 8-23 yrd throws, making a 1st....this team just looks BAD...and so far they have proved it...I still think coaching is a BIG part of the failures this year...the play calling is just terrible and we don't seem to fix the prior weeks problems...like coverage of receivers...et al1 point

That's a dangerous play with a mediocre quarterback. If your QB isn't accurate, it's a pick-6.1 point

I don't know about any contractual obligations towards teams below first. If a 6-win team finishes strong by beating ULM and WKU, it might appease the other Belt bowls into consideration above a 7 or 8 win team that tanked at the end (especially if they lost to us). Anyone know the contractual obligations of all the Belt bowl tie-ins?1 point

Also noticed they showed the play where Jimmy Jam got hurt. Good play but poor result. And I counted at least three plays where DT hit receivers in the hands only to see it dropped. I'm as adamant as anyoune that our QB play has to elevate, but without Brelan AND another threat that can get separation (and catch) it's hard to lay it all at #7's feet.1 point

I'd be surprised if we make it to 6-6. Even if we did, I would not be in favor of playing in a bowl in the event we were asked. With the exception of maybe the final 10 minutes of the game, I saw uninspired football against a bad USA team. You all do realize how many "gifts" we received last night? I like DT, but he just doesn't get the ball off quick enough and he telegraphs where he's throwing it. Until we get a high quality QB on campus we'll struggle for wins. And the transfer hasn't played a down of football in a while so don't go there. I think we have a few players riding the pine who transferred in from high profile programs.1 point

I believe this is why our play-calling is so conservative. If you look back when Mac was at Iowa State with Seneca Wallace at QB and decent receivers, Wallace racked up some obscene passing numbers. I believe Mac knows what he has on his roster, and executes a game plan that gives us our best chance to win and minimizes the potential blowouts.1 point

That Troy game hasn't stopped haunting me. If we were to get to 6-6 (and I don't think we will), then I'm happy not getting a bowl invite. 6-6 is a step up, it's not a losing record and would be perceived as a decent season by potential recruits. Plus, this way we would end on a high instead of potentially getting destroyed by someone in a fourth tier bowl game and having to deal with that for the whole off-season.1 point

After ULM and WKU's performances, 6-6 might still happen. I'd love to see it take place, but the DB's have to be perfect in the next few weeks and our QB/WRs have to connect far better than they have today. A bowl game would be great and all, but an improved record with a younger team than last year's is still fine.1 point

There are many, many, schools that the students take liberty with or add lyrics to their fight songs. For example many UCLA students add "F#@k SC at the end of their fight song no matter who they are playing. UNC students chant "Go To Hell State" at the end of theirs- Neither are official lyrics but the kids do it. Is it offensive? Perhaps to some. Do the kids enjoy it? Clearly. Will the kids that enjoy it and have fond memories of it, grow up to be alums that don't do it but remember it fondly, and also be alums that go on to buy season tickets, support the University etc.? Who knows for sure but having fun while they're here doesn't hurt the chances. Will the amount of people offended by such terrible language stop supporting the program, stop buying season tickets etc outnumber the kids who graduate and then support it? Doubtful. Personally, at times it bothers me. However, considering how down we've been historically, I love the fact that the students have a little swagger about them during the fight song. In the very recent past people hung their head when they told someone else they attended or had attended UNT. That's changing and believe it or not something as vile as "mother f#@cking eagles" chanted during our fight song builds that pride. Final words. Please read my sig.1 point

Yeah, when the student section completely ignores the fight song the GB will realize how idiotic getting rid of it is.1 point
