This isnt football. A disciplined, veteran, basketball team...in their house...will do this to you. Especially if you are playing your first game with a new coach, in a new system, with players who havent played together much at all. This game will tell you NOTHING about how good you will be in two weeks, or two months. We will still beat Lehigh at home. We will still win the Belt. We will still win in Hot Springs. Take a look at what happened nationally. Kentucky squeaked put a win AT HOME against an unranked Maryland. The same UK with the nation's best recruiting class. The same defending national champs. Breathe. Show up in the pit. This team won't let you down like football did...I know you're afraid to love again but Benford's boys won't hurt you. Give them your heart. It's real love this time.7 points

Just back from the after party after the game. Good game, UNT. Tony Mitchell is the real deal. However, he didn't have a lot of help tonight and our depth seemed to win the game. Our defense was MUCH better than I expected. For us not hitting any 3's and still win by 20, I like how that bodes for us. The refs were poor on both ends tonight. They really let a ton go and sometimes it got pretty sloppy out there. You shouldn't be too hard on your squad. Rarely if ever has a non-conference opponent come in to the Clink and won. It's rare. Good luck!4 points

Bluejay fan here. Just back from game. You have some real athletes. I like your chances once your team starts to gel. The Clink is a hard venue for visitors, especially non-conference teams--over 17,000 at the game. # 13 is the real deal. But the Jays are deeper. It was our depth that won the game. Good luck the rest of the way. I am planning on making the trip to Denton in two years.4 points

Tough. That'll be the theme for this post. Tough team in Creighton. Tough place to play. Tough place to open a season and tough place to start a head coaching career. Tough (tough, tough, tough, tough, tough) shooting night. Tough break on some 50/50 balls...and tough break on a handful of calls (especially on CJ) We just played the best team on our schedule. Hands down. And we had to do it in the very first game of the year and the very first game at the helm for our head coach. From this game I'll take out that we looked like we belonged...even a 35% shooting night and we lose by 10. Mitchell, as we know, is legit. Franklin played really well. Alzee was solid off the bounce, but his jumper looked rushed (so did everyone's). PJ and Coleman will be big pieces this year. I like the line changes...for about the first 8-10 minutes...after that stop it. Yes we have 11-12 players...not all of them deserved to be out there tonight. PJ, Alzee, Roger, Mitchell, Coleman...we could've gotten away with that line-up for longer stretches tonight. Not worried. God owes me for Sandy canceling the NYC Marathon so he's gonna deliver a trip to MSG. Mark it down.4 points

For everyone disappointed at the thought that this UNT team is not as good as you hoped, I give you this. I took the 2011-2012 Week 18 AP Poll, and looked at every schedule. Every win/loss on their schedule that was 1) greater than 10 points, and 2) against another team on this poll or ranked at the time of said game. Look at the wild that is college basketball!!! I'm not trying to say our team is going to be fine, or that I'm not disappointed. I thought we could keep this at about 10-15 points. But it is clear we need some shooters to emerge and for JW to stop looking lost on the perimeter or we will lose these types of games. But bad games can happen to the best of them, even mid and late season! This was game 1! Let us regroup and learn from this. As CBL said in the chat: this is not tape you want to burn like last year's UTA loss. This was a potentially great BlueJay team with many starters back (like us) that have twice as much post season experience as us. There is a lot to take from it. 45: Total games listed 27: Games decided by 15+ 7: Games decided by 20+ 2: Games decided by 30+3 points

A 2001 study evaluating the impact of marijuana intoxication on driving proficiency on city streets among sixteen subjects reported essentially no differences in subjects' driving performance after cannabis administration, concluding: "Performance as rated on the Driving Proficiency Scale did not differ between treatments. It was concluded that the effects of low doses of THC ... on higher-level driving skills as measured in the present study are minimal." Similarly, a 1993 trial funded by the United States National Highway Traffic Association (NTHSA) evaluated subjects' driving performance after cannabis inhalation in high-density urban traffic. Investigators reported, "Marijuana ... did not significantly change mean driving performance."2 points

Idk...I am frankly a little tired of UNT being the perpetual underdog and always accepting a loss. "It was our toughest game of the season...it was one of the best teams in the nation..blah... blah"....Come on, we have arguably the most talented team in history and we're accepting losing? This loss was embarrassing with the way we played. We were dominated in most aspects of the game and Creighton didn't even have a great game whatsoever. We're not a poorly talented Sunbelt team with mediocre expectations. This should be a huge reality check for the team and coaches if they want to have any high level success this season, which is what everyone has to expect from this team. Hope they start playing a lot better and the coaches prove that their players are maximizing their talent. It did not show at all tonight. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of high expectations and under-performance. Hope things turn very quickly.2 points

Are we watching the same game? Creighton has missed like 10 3's... we should be losing by 30 right now. Why even bring up the refs2 points

What kind of napkins will you have? Individual ones or paper towels? I don't like paper towels. They had them at an away tailgate set up by the AD once and I think it caused us to lose that game. Also, will you have individual mustard and ketchup packets for the hot dogs? I don't want to have to share a bottle of mustard! Oh, and one more thing, why BYOB? Surely somebody could have had the foresight to bring beer for everyone. I prefer mine in a chilled glass (not a mug). This is why other schools are passing us by.2 points

First, I think Kay Bailer Hutchison is/was an amazing Senator. She really exemplified the pre-2000s style of politician in being able to debate and come to compromise, not stall and indignantly hold up Congress. And thus, I'm morbidly horrified of the Republican nominee to fill her place in Ted Cruz. All he ever appears to offer is the place of vitriolic tea partier lap dog. This then gets me actually pumped to learn more and more of the Democratic challenger, Paul Sadler. He has a brilliant record in our state of being able to do the sort of work that Hutchison did at the Federal level and is much closer to what the political landscape should be: give me centrism over isolationism any day of the week. And then all of a sudden DMN: http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20121018-editorial-we-recommend-paul-sadler-for-u.s.-senate.ece Coming from them....just woah. So, what does GoMeanGreen think about this race, one that I believe has a lot more at stake for Texans than the Presidential one does?1 point

I would have liked to have seen a closer game and better performance but this NT team is still damn good. Lots of hype, new coach, and a fully healthy team on the court and it could just take a a little bit time to really gel and find their way. I'm not worried.1 point

I like Mac a lot and the man can get you fired up and help sell this program to fans and to outsiders by his talk but there really needs to be noticeable and significant progression in year 3 otherwise there won't be anything wrong in analyzing his job and seeing if he's the right man to lead this thing to a next level. Even for this season there is still 3 games left where you can improve and set a ton for next season. But at some point it really boils down to wins and losses and if the wins aren't there then it is perfectly fine to evaluate your options.1 point

I think most people here didn't expect a win, but to play as bad as we did is what's embarrassing IMO. Creighton is a great team, but yikes we were bad. That being said, I only expect us to lose 3 or 4 more games.1 point

Sorry, I meant I cannot keep up with two below average teams this year (UH and UNT) so I will pay attention to UNT's below average year. I don't want to watch Piland throw INT after INT while Sims, a stud, gets hardly any plays. No thanks.1 point

Oklahoma switched to the Wishbone during the offweek between games 3 and 4 in 1970, not during the offseason. http://articles.latimes.com/1988-09-23/sports/sp-2851_1_head-coach http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080113_1_A8_spanc88381 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1086586/index.htm http://newsok.com/digging-up-the-bone-rice-bringing-once-feared-wishbone-offense-back-to-owen-field/article/2712632 http://books.google.com/books?id=iRBRTABxO1EC&pg=PA182&lpg=PA182&dq=Wishbone+1970+Oklahoma+Oregon+State+Fairbanks&source=bl&ots=EIoAwxerjS&sig=Sj8scJDCo95-XMxSZDvcr019y4s&hl=en&sa=X&ei=B3-dUPusCqj8yAHvzYHYDQ&ved=0CCsQ6AEwADge#v=onepage&q&f=false http://alabama.scout.com/2/1237406.html http://newsok.com/darrell-royal-coached-the-texas-longhorns-but-he-was-still-one-of-us/article/3726499 "When OU famously implemented the wishbone in mid-season 1970, and the Longhorns thrashed the Sooners 41-9 in its debut, Oklahoma coach Chuck Fairbanks called Royal and asked if Switzer, OU's offensive coordinator, could chat with UT offensive coordinator Emory Bellard about the offense Texas had made famous." It was installed during the 1970 season, and all that happened was after the first game OU installed it - the Texas game in 1970 - OU's head coach called Royal to ask if their offensive coordinator's - Barry Switzer and Emory Bellard - could discuss it. The history is well known...just like the history of Texas and Royal not recruiting black players...and, OU then taking the Wishbone and running it with their black players from Texas, Florida, California, Pennsylavian, Arkansas, and all point in between, and beating Royal for the next five games in a row, and tying them for a sixth...until Texas, finally recruiting black players, caught up with them. Athletes of all colors - OU recruited them to resurrect their program, surpassing Texas in almost every measure since then - wins, conference titles, national titles, Heisman Winners, Outland Winners, etc., etc., etc. Royal and Texas did OU - and, consequently Nebraska as well, who began to recruit Texas with more vigor once Tom Osborne was elevated to their head coaching position - a huge favor by lagging in recruitment of black athletes. So...again...when you see OU thrash Texas, remember who is was and for what reason: Darrell Royal and the big southern dummies that ran Texas at the time allowed them to do so. You can watch OU's and their black players run all over Texas' Fighting Whities a year after they installed the offense (about 7:00 mark to about 10:00 mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFcixV0As-w In addition to guys like Greg Pruitt, Roy Bell, and Al Chandler of offense, you can see that OU's defense back then was almost entirely composed of black players.1 point

History and competition for the same goals. We have no historical rivalry with SMU, no matter how much people here want to make it the case. They actually don't care about us at all, and that's fine. I can't seem to care much about SMU, either. They're not in the same conference that we're in, nor have they been. History doesn't mean "We've played each other a bunch because we're in the same state." It means that you played each other a bunch in games people cared about. The move to a more regional conference should help us develop a natural rivalry over time... OVER TIME.1 point

The way CUSA has operated in the past is that teams play the same crossover oppenents in back to back years in a home/home, but I guess there is no guarantee they would continue this. ODU cannot officially join the football conference until 2015 so the conference schedules should not be impacted. ODU will play as an FCS independent in 2013 and as an FBS independent in 2014, although they have asked for some help from CUSA with some games there is no guarantee that they will get games. North Texas is a potential opponent because we have an open date on our calendar in 2014. If any CUSA teams play ODU in 2013, it will count as an FCS game. If anyone plays them in 2014 it will count as an FBS game (but OOC for CUSA teams). It would certainly help our schedule out if we are able to get ODU to play at Apogee in 2014, but it would probably cost us a lot more to pay them to come to Denton than a local FCS team, unless they are willing to play an away game for cheap.1 point

We all love to talk about how deep our team is, how much we have returning, etc, but let's take a moment to reflect on our super trio of Jordan Williams, Tony Mitchell, and Chris Jones. The great basketball teams usually have 3 players that are looked at as "All Star" types who can carry a team in different phases of the game. Look at NBA Championship trios like Ginobili-Parker-Duncan, Bosh-Wade-James, Jordan-Pippen-Rodman, and even on the college level like 02-03 Syracuse with Anthony-McNamara-Warrick, 01-02 Maryland with Dixon-Baxter-Wilcox, and of course 05-07 Florida Gators with Noah-Brewer-Horford. Although it's a bummer that Patton is out and TJ Taylor is out for the whole season but the close games were and are going to be won with the ball in the hands of our trio. It's going to be fun to see how our other players on our stacked team such as Coleman, Alzee, and Franklin match up against another, possibly even more, stacked team but as long as they play solid basketball this year our big 3 should lead us to many, many wins. Can't wait for tonight, really looking forward to the game. Not expecting a win, but not expecting a loss either. We couldn't have asked for much better to open up the year. GMG!1 point

Did anyone watching the North Texas vs ULL Espn2 telecast find it annoying to hear the band director in the background before every band piece was played? This went on throughout the game. Same thing at the Houston game, but I dismissed it because we were sitting right there by the band. But over a TV telecast, across the field? Maybe he needs to turn down that cheesy little Radio Shak PA system he uses.1 point
