Am I the only one that thinks that putting up the team in a hotel is a big example of waste in college football. Yes, I know they all do it and it is because among other things that most of the team lives off campus. I would not be opposed to the NCAA outlawing payments in lieu of dorm residence to non-married athletes. Seems to me it would be best for the athletes and schools and would close a massive element of recruiting abuses.5 points

Dude, I love JJ as much as anyone on this board. I'm gonna keep an eye on how his teams do at LSU. But why the F are we having LSU recruiting threads on here?5 points

Per DMac, there's a scheduling(...or planning) problem with the hotels in Denton so the team is having to stay in Dallas tonight, and will not be attending the bonfire. I attribute this to the fact that the Denton hotels filled up.....as they always do twice a year when there is a race in town, and will have to instead stay in Dallas. http://www.meangreensports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=1800&id=1080479&DB_MENU_ID=&SPSID=&SPID=&DB_OEM_ID=1800 Rick3 points

Props - Walton's smothering aggressive D. - PJ's handles and driving. - Roger's fadeaways, nice touch tonight. - JW 20&10 and some amazing athletic plays. Oh my! (And he lead the team in rebounding!) - The classic Alzee runner. - 5 blocks from the guy with the long arms and the pogo stick. That guy seems like he might be pretty good. - The walk-on for getting some PT. Atta boy. Slops - Niko's defense and rebounding. Sorry, but he looked soft imo. - Coleman's study habits. C'mon big guy we need you! - 3-point shooting. - 2nd half rebounding. - Free throws: First half, 92.9% Second half, 68.4% ^Just my 2 cents, feel free to play along. Overall, I had a BLAST and I'm thrilled that NTBB is FINALLY BACK!! This will be a season to remember. Glory to the Green!2 points

Just an FYI...The UNT Alumni Pavilion at Apogee is open to all ...members and non-members alike this Saturday for Homecoming...no admission fee for non-members! There is a homecoming cake contest that will be going on in the Pavilion as well as the "normal" game day "stuff"...food, drink, etc. Cakes are set to be judged at 1:30PM...some really neat cakes in last year's event, and I suspect there will be as well this year...all themed, of course. If you have not stopped by the Alumni pavilion before now...well, here is your chance. It's also a good and convenient opportunity to join the Alumni Association or to renew your membership. HAPPY HOMECOMING...Be There...it's going to be a great Saturday with the Mean Green Nation!2 points

SMH. There is a bit of misconception going on here folks and no reason for the negative crap being spewed. The hotel reservations were made at the start of the year. The Athletic Department was fully aware of the TMS Race this weekend, they didn't just make a change this week. The Hotel around TMS is where they have been staying during the entire Mac Era except for race weekends which is a straight shot up 35w to Apogee. Pre-Mac they stayed at the Holiday Inn there in Denton. The way Mac has it structured required more space and therefore the reason the team moved hotels when Mac took charge of the program. Tonight they are in Los Colinas. The amount of time required for the kids to participate, in the Bonfire, would take them away from their normal pre-game routine which is scheduled down to the minute. Meetings (Positional and Team), Dinner, Treatments, Film, along with other preparations take up the players evening from 5pm until 9 or 9:30pm with lights out at 11pm. Attending the Bonfire would pretty much replace every part of the normal pre-game schedule these guys have been living for the past 8 weeks. These coaches believe in structure and do everything possible to maintain that structure. That structure remains the same whether a game is played at home or away. It's a shame the players can't participate tonight but I'd much rather have them focusing on their performance tomorrow. I also respect the structure and discipline that has been established by Coach Mac.2 points

Not true. They have stayed at the Holiday Inn several times under the last coach as well as Mac. Just FYI2 points

Big boy college football programs stay in hotels the night before all games. They don't stay at their own houses or apartments then car pool to the stadium like high school teams. There will not be very much disappointment at all about the team not being there tonight. The majority of the people there are freshmen who are only concerned with the free stuff, skits, and the fire. I would much rather the team be together tonight, getting their heads right for tomorrow.2 points

I'm sure Mac is more pissed over this than anyone. He has constantly asked students to come out & support his team. They have been awesome in their attendance & enthusiasm. The homecoming bonfire is a place where both students & the team can show support for one another. It helps grow the relationship of the University as a whole Mac doesn't deal with the hotels and I'm sure some hotel didn't drop the ball on a 40+ room reservation for the largest University in the metroplex. Just a guess here , but this was poor planning on someone at UNT I can find many faults on Mac , but this isn't one of them. He would really want his team at this bonfire if it was possible Just my non expert opinion on a subject that I don't have the full story on2 points

So, let me get this straight. We want Denton businesses to support the athletic department and help put Dentonites in the stands, but we don't even give the hotel business to a Denton hotel...sounds logical to me.2 points

Please show where anyone has ever complained about the players being at the bonfire and mingling with the students and getting them excited. Piss poor planning is all this is.2 points

The student turnout was less than I was expecting. Hopefully they're saving themselves up for Saturday. I would guess we had 3,134 last night.2 points

Team usually doesn't stay in Denton before a game anyway. I understand they stay in the hotel out near the raceway. have no clue where they are staying this Friday night....due to that race. But, reservations are made months in advance. Stuff happens (in this case perhaps traffic issues)....also understand that the team is pretty much on lockdown and had a week-long curfew in getting ready for this very important game. Am sure it is also a "darned if you do...darned if you don't deal". If players attend the bonfire some of our experts will complain that they were out too late and should have been resting before this important game....if they don't show up some of our experts will complain that it was the AD and staff's fault for not planning better. Am sure Coach Mac and his team are way too busy getting ready for this homecoming game to worry about what folks think about this...I am just keeping all fingers and toes crossed that the team starts fast, comes out strong and wins the game Saturday. Too bad about the bonfire thing...it sucks to not have them there, but it is what it is.....and the sun will come up Saturday over Apogee either way! BEAT ARKY STATE!!!!!2 points

I was too. Same motivation as our season tickets are a few rows back but since it was open seating, we thought we might as well sit front row. My friends had the little girl who was obsessed with Scrappy if you noticed. Saying that, I was really impressed with how Coach Benford ran the game, talked to his players, and really emphasized playing smart. What has always bothered me watching Tony Mitchell, the mopy attitude he seems to carry after a play doesn't go his way. Whether it's a foul, goaltend, whatever, he gets way too upset and needs to focus on the next play. When he threw the ball off Roger's head last night resulting in a turnover, he started huffing and puffing his way down the court. Coach Benford was not having it as he was yelling "Tony! TONY!!!" as if to say, 'get your head in the game'. Lotta love for Coach Jones, but never saw him approach this problem Tony has. T-Mitch said one of the reasons he came back was he needed to mature on and off the court. If he can stop getting upset so easily, it would accomplish the on-court part of the equation. I think Coach Benford will help him immensely in doing so. I was also looking forward to seeing the big man play, and could not understand why he did not until this morning. Did like that Coach Benford broke some things down with him, explained situations, and what he wants from him in those situations. Saw the word "doghouse" thrown around, but definitely was not the case. I could understand that impression if you were not there and just heard he was not in the game, but Coach really gave him a lot of attention and reassuring gestures. I noticed that we had a larger margin of victory than #1 Indiana & #3 Kentucky did in their exhibitions. For those with season tickets but were unable to make it, they are awesome. Actually professional looking with logos and whatnot. Much better than is year's past. I hung around for autographs afterwards since it will only get more crowded as the season goes on. Don't worry too much about the offensive rebounds, it's gonna happen when you miss as many shots as they did. More than once, they would get a few of the time in one possession just because they couldn't put it in and it kept bouncing right back into their hands. One final thought, Niko has really improved his game. Really liked what I saw from him on both ends.2 points

we were camped out right behind the bench. Wanted to get as close to Benford as possible to see and hear how he runs a game.2 points

Well, I think that if Oz was the best option and UNT needed him to try to win the game then Mac would definitely put him in...do you really think Mac would base a game day coaching decision on what a bunch of folks on a fan board or fans in general would think? Seriously? I give him much more credit than you in this regard I guess....While I agree that we will not see Oz UNLESS something "odd" happens, I do think Mac would and WILL make the best decision HE can regarding getting the Mean Green in a position to win. If that meant sending Oz in...I am certain he would do so. Folks, this situation with Oz is odd, of course, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is more to the story than meets the eye at this point.2 points

I do commend Benford for holding Coleman accountable. Johnny Jones diddnt with CJ & JW by letting them play and it hurt us in the end.1 point

And...I will keep saying that...any coach who listens to a bunch of folks who are great only in their own minds and who have never coached at the FBS/D1 level even one day is not worth having as a coach. You know, Emmitt....everyone knows how to be a better cop too...you know...how they could have kept that lady from getting killed after the lack of response after the 911 call...everyone that is who has never been a cop, who wasn't there and who has no dog in the hunt that is.... And coaching at the pee wee level doesn't really count any more than watching a cop show on TV. I'll stick with the guys who make their living coaching at the college level over a bunch of "I could do it better" message board arm chair Coaches...you can do as you please as well. Just sayin.....1 point

You believe correctly. An s load of offensive boards for ECU.1 point

hopefully this is the only game he misses. im sure CJ & JW will show the stat sheets of their season last year after were ruled academically ineligible. goose eggs. Selfish move on Coleman and could really hurt the entire team. we were out rebounded by a Div 2 team tonight i believe.1 point

Brett Vito @brettvito UNT center Keith Coleman didn't play in exhibition tonight after failing to attend classes and tutoring sessions per Tony Benford1 point

Or perhaps Bedford did not want the Creighton scout to see Colman in action so they cannot prepare for him..... The same reason he ran lineups in and out every few minutes.1 point

Tomorrow (Thursday) or men's basketball team takes to the court for the first time this season in an exhibition. Top five reasons you need to make the effort to attend. 5)It's free 4)You'll need to see a Mean Green victory this week 3)Tony Mitchell. There is a limited number of times you'll see this guy play at OUR house. Take advantage. 2)I know some of you are "football only" people but consider this. If Mac and Co had football talent comparable to what Benford has, against the exact same teams, we'd likely be 10-2 or 11-1. 1)They're representing our university1 point

Monkeypox, that not what I meant and you know it. I would expect a 6&6 or 7&5 record next year, depending upon which teams we play in Eastern Dividion of CUSA. Unless schedule changes,we have Idaho and Ball U. home, and Ohio away. Both MAC teams are good, but as of now the only money game scheduled is at Georgia. You eat an elephant a bite at a time. It's just hard to win without much talent, which I feel Mac will be able to recruite.1 point

Funny that you say that, because my original post was pretty much telling everyone to move on. And I don't doubt that Mac wants to win. However, he's made it very clear that he wants to win on his terms. That's why you see the exact same gameplan week after week. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but it never changes, and I have my doubts that it ever will.1 point

Sorry if this has been posted, but the only thing I have seen references Vito's remarks about Osborn graduating/moving on. At the very end of the Mac press conference, a question was posed if there would be any thought to getting Osborn some reps at QB , he replied directly with no, not unless there is an injury.1 point

http://www.meangreen...TCLID=205722407 Article states NT finishes in 15 place, which although not stated was last place. I expect homerism in the AD staff's reporting but how about giving out some information. Trying to polish a very bad performance is not good reporting or fair to the people who actually read the article to find out how the team is doing. It does provide a link in this story to see the actual scores but that is not always the case. Report it slanted if you wish, but at least give out the basic data.1 point
