So far I have seen all types of adjectives to describe this team today....classless, quitters, heartless to say a few. Now, I am ready to say a few things. You never enter a game expecting to play like UNT played today. I admit they did not play well, but to call them quitters, heartless, classless...I have to say to not look past your own mirror when you call any football team, player or coach those names. Because alot of people I see here are ACTING..classless...like quitters and heartless. It easy to sit in your living room watching a game and drinking a beer and second guess what is going on in the game. But, I doubt few of you have ever played on Friday nights, much less on Saturday afternoon. I have always said to critics / arm chair qbs....FOR THOSE THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PLAYERS AND WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH, WAS NEVER A PLAYER. I had a coach in college that told my team in a similar season that it is easy to walk away when the season is not going your way...It is a measure of the individual and the TEAM on how you REACT to that bad season. There is a life lesson here. Remember, this team is comprised of our friends, classmates, peers and in my case, my son. We are all much better than this...on and off the field...it is time to start acting like it.10 points

I played for UNT for four seasons as a starter and Letterman. Today this team was heartless. After that much time off, they laid down from the word go. Classless? Yes. Personal fouls out of frustration for poor play. Damn embarrassing for an away game or any game for that matter. Today I was ashamed of this team from the word go from the players to the staff. I expect more than they did on all fronts. Damn right I will give criticism to a team that lays down. Arm chair QB my ass. I still have pain in my body from this team that I love and will bitch about the pathetic status any time I please.8 points

Dickey won four titles. Then he "stopped recruiting" So Dodge inherited a "bare cupboard" He got four years out of "bare cupboard", "young team" and "things are turnring around" Last year Mac inherited a "bare cupboard" This year we have a "young team" that is "turning it around" Next year we'll have....5 points

Thanks Greenhorn...I know the boys are going to work their butts off this week...for the way they played today and for prep for next week. These weeks are not fun...but they happen. This is a very young team....they are growing.4 points

I loved what Chico did after his takeover. I think we'd be leaps and bounds ahead of where we are now had he been given the job.3 points

Face facts. It doesn't matter what Dickey left or what Dodge did or how many years they had to do it. McCarney inherited a team that had not seen a winning record in years. He was also saddled with fewer scholarships than other schools and a team that had been heavily built on juco recruits. He could have continued the cycle by recruiting a bunch of juco players and possibly put together a winning season by sacrificing the future. I read on here somewhere that he is the run version of Dodge. He's exactly the opposite. Look, he has had only one and a half recruiting classes under his belt if you consider how many players he's redshirting. He's working his way through the scholarship mess he inherited. He has gotten his players grades to where they should be. Laying the proper foundation takes time. Don't expect consistency from young players. Don't judge this by 1 or 2 games. Have a little faith.3 points

Solid depth at the skill positions on offense, a quarterback battle, and more young talented depth on D. Many talented players are redshirting.3 points

Most here predicted 5-7. Don't be naive people, we all know what happens to a program with damn near a decade of futility. How much has the personnel changed in 1 season? Losing sucks, but we have to give him one more year before we start questioning the coach's ability. We can't deny we're seeing the changes, it's just going to take time for this team to surpass .500. Yes, it's that bad right now. Just look at what NT has at QB & WR. There's a lack of talent, speed, & playmakers across the board...3 points

Look, we do this after every loss. In sort-of chronological order 1) Someone brings Mac's coaching ability into question 2) somebody questions if this is really Chico's offense 3) ....bring up Mac's Iowa State record 4) ....random Iowa State lurker posts in DMac's defense, "But we LOVE that guy 5) ...Silver might say something about how he's a salesman 6)...quality of recruits is discussed 7)....who's our future QB? 8)....anyone else like pie? 9)...I'm going to the bar. see you all next week.3 points

The only reason to make a pregnant woman see a sonogram is to punish her for something you disapprove of. That's wrong. As for when a fetus becomes human, I think the exercise is silly. An oocyte or a sperm cell is human but I don't think you want to grant those cells legal rights. If you did half the posters on GMG would be committing mass murder every evening.3 points

This kid will not be anywhere near the QB competition next year. If he is, we are in for a very long season.2 points

Looking like he's going to bring a nice redshirt to the table while Berglund is QB'ing.2 points

See SEC Recently read a post that said we couldn't win w/ a run-first offense...BS They referenced Boise of course, b/c that's who we have to replicate b/c we are a mid-major...REALLY tired of this This offense...when the QB isn't killing us...is pretty balanced...see our wins I would argue that he teams that are really good are not your spread teams...they are your teams that pay defense and can run the ball See SEC Give Mac some freaking time...not 10 years, but more than a season and a half2 points

I think DMac is bound and determined to play smash mouth football because he thinks that he doesn't have the talent to play anything else. Again, this is partially his fault, as we live in a league where true freshmen can contribute immediately, We have had none do so at the skill positions on offense. This is nothing new for DMac. In the FIU opener last year, there was not one 1st down pass until about 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter when we were down by a ton. Is DMac the guy? I think it is still too early to tell. He is in this position because he did not get the players in his 1st 2 recruiting classes that he needed at offensive skill positions. That is completely on him. The lack of a true QB in those classes is killing this program . Next year is the year. The 3rd year is what DMac appears to have been shooting for all along. If we see a similiar style and similiar results next year, that is the time for yelling for coaches heads to role. I agree with what P1 said in another thread. It appears DMac has been given a long leash with this thing. That is evident by the amount of freshmen he is redshirting. The leash should be 3 years, as it is at every major college program. Just look at year 4 of the Dodge disaster if you need proof.2 points

The way I see it... Scenario. On the road. No Delgado, Brelan out on first series with season ending injury. He has accounted for over 50% of this seasons TD's. You quickly go down 17-0, we give up a handful of BIG plays. Game plan completely changes from the 3 headed RB Monster gameplan to need to throw it to catch up without your #1 and #2 WRs out. Finish 200+ yrds total rushing and 432 total yrds vs. their 488. Take away 3-4 plays on defense their yards drop big time as well as the points. We are close, so close. I know close only counts in horshoes. Its honeslty dissapointing to see so much negativity from the supporters of UNT from week to week. This program has come a long way in 24 months, and the progress is being made. We Lost on the road 38-21, A loss is a loss. And it hurts for everyone, and especially to those that prepare all week to win. Mean Green Nation needs to regroup and Protect Apogee next week and beat Arky State.2 points

2-9, 3-9, 2-10, 1-11, 2-10, 3-9, 5-7, 3-5(probably 4-8) is what has surfaced the last 8 years. I mean no disrespect to you, Connor's class could very well be the one that turns things around, but most of us have sat through enough losses and just can't do it any longer. I'm tired of writing off seasons halfway through and rationalizing it by the fact that we have freshman and sophomores out there who will be all conference by the time their seniors, or so everyone says. Only problem is we've watched this same cycle since 2005 with players who don't pan out and I don't even know what to say at this point.2 points

I don't blame the players for most of it, I blame the overpaid coaches who could not prepare on 10 days notice against a sub-par team who then proceeded to look like LSU until they got bored. Very embarrassing.2 points

This. 1000 times this. Winning will get harder moving to CUSA next year. Not hopeful.2 points

With all the redshirt kids coming in next season.... WE'LL STILL BE ABLE TO BLAME CRAPPY LOSSES ON BEING YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED!!!2 points

I've seen this whole "many talented players are redshirting" thing on here a lot. If they were actually talented, they'd be on the field. Unless you're referring to the transfers, in which case I think that's hilarious because people constantly use the whole "Dodge screwed us by recruiting JUCO guys" excuse all the time, and that's essentially what these transfers are.2 points

You are right, I'm just tired of all the doom and gloom...fire Mac, fire Chico, bad offense, etc. We're going to be ok2 points

Let me ask this as a follow up question. The best coaches, in my observations, tailor their play calling to the players they have...not set out with an agenda and try to fit the players into that system. Why don't we? And don't give me "lack of WR talent". These aren't SEC cornerbacks we're facing. Nor do I want to hear about how DT can't throw the ball accurately downfield. Spread the defense out and throw WR screens or slants all day if you have to. You're putting multiple TE's out there...throw them the ball. Just stop running into a stacked box and hoping Jimmy Jam can squirt loose from time to time. If, as UNT90 suggests, Mac is truly bound and determined to play "smash mouth" football we are in real trouble. First off, it puts your defense in the position of having to surrender very few points because your offense can't play from behind...no quick strike ability. And, more importantly, if you're gonna run this boring ass offense because you don't have a QB...you'll never recruit QB's!!! What kid wants to throw for 5,000 yards in his senior season and then come to NT to run Dickey Ball Part Deux?!2 points

David Ash was benched by one of the most conservative coaches in history and Case McCoy came in and won it for Texas. No one knows what that means next week, but Texas won a game they could have easily lost without a change.2 points

I predicted a 5-7 record at the beginning of the season. While I don't think I'll end up very far from right on the money, I'll already mark this year down as a disappointment. My prediction was for an undermanned team pulling out all the stops imaginable to keep itself in games. That's not what we're being presented with. Unless the other team shoots itself in the foot, we're not competitive.2 points

Call me krazy , but that 1 play was the whole game. 2 downs to get 3 yards and Jimmerson doesn't touch it Instead we throw a fade route to a 5'8 WR with 1 career reception in the endzone who was triple covered2 points

Coaching was great in the KSU game as we hung tough. Defensive changes were great last week after the opening drive by ULL. Offense is handcuffed by DT and our two best receivers being out. I'm really shocked at how our defense has played today. I'm not sure what is happening. We have the best coaching staff this team has had since at least the 70's. They need some time. There's no guarentee that they will turn this thing completely around but these coaches are the best hope we've got.2 points
-
Perhaps the play calling is dull because they don't trust Thompson to throw the ball? We have no deep threat whatsoever and he can't seem to lob the ball consistently even to a receive who is 8 yards away. Have you considered this? The calls are created for the strengths and limitation of the QB.2 points

Completely disagree. Besides that one play, Trice is the only player showing life out there. You never know what you're gonna get with DT...2 points

We had our first child about 18 months ago. At 8 weeks we heard his heartbeat. For me, at that moment he was truly alive. At 12 weeks they were able to predict gender with 97% accuracy. If a tiny human, with distinct internal organs like mine and a heartbeat like mine can be seen at 8 weeks post conception, I just don't understand the argument that life begins at birth. I personally don't believe abortion is right, but I also don't believe it's appropriate to tell someone else what is right for them. And I believe that should extend to the government as well.2 points

That's what I figured. Too bad, it actually did answer a lot of questions I had been seeing pop up in the basketball forums. If anyone is an insider, here is the link: http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8555940/north-texas Also, if you get ESPN Magazine, you can get ESPN insider for free (that's how I get it), so if you get it, and didn't know that..now you do. If you were hoping for a fast paced offense under Benford, it seems as if you'll be in luck, as he mentions a few times how he likes the players he inherited because they fit the fast pace he likes to run. Praise for Mitchell is obviously there, but unlike most articles it actually goes in depth about other players as well (even mentions returning experienced size in Niko....). Blue Ribbon previews provide a quick graded analysis at the end as well. This is done on a typical grading scale (A, B, C, D, F) with +'s and -'s (A-, C+). There is no distinction between lower level conference teams and higher ones; if a team sucks, they're going to get an F...if they're great, they'll get an A, regardless of the conference. The 4 things they grade upon are Backcourt, Bench/Depth, Frontcourt, and Intangibles. In no particular order (but exactly the order you'd hope it'd be), we received grades of A, A, A+, A-. Is it November 9 yet?2 points

If DT isn't the answer then give Osborne a shot and let him play. This thing isn't just being built for the future of the program but we also have to keep in mind that we're trying to recruit guys this year to come to North Texas. These losses don't help. I understand a program is trying to get rebuilt here but I feel many other programs can have and much quicker turnarounds with bigger wins than we can for some reason. There's always an excuse of why we aren't getting it done. I'll still keep on supporting this team as always but there should be some change if things aren't going right in season.1 point

We were down 31-0 at one point today. WKU, ULM, and ASU are all better then MTSU. I think most reasonable fans would agree a bowl game is probably out of our reach now. Even with Chancellor (broken collar bone) and Delgado out, TD is not the answer for this program. Too many bad passes. I see no reason why we shouldn't look at some other QBs. At 3-5, it is time to develop players for the future. We just lost to a team that lost to McNeese State.1 point

People love Mac because dickey & dodge didn't interact with the fans or students like Mac does To a lot of people this is new. It seems like most people have never heard a head coach speak before. Mac doesn't really say anything different than any other Coach in America People will point to the "improvement " they see. That's not saying much if u really think about it. Dodge era was one worst in the history of college football. There were 500 guys we could have thrown out there with a whistle & a playbook and seen a "improvement"1 point

If DT keeps playing like this then you have to replace him or the entire team will lose confidence.1 point
