  1. Look, we do this after every loss. In sort-of chronological order 1) Someone brings Mac's coaching ability into question 2) somebody questions if this is really Chico's offense 3) ....bring up Mac's Iowa State record 4) ....random Iowa State lurker posts in DMac's defense, "But we LOVE that guy 5) ...Silver might say something about how he's a salesman 6)...quality of recruits is discussed 7)....who's our future QB? 8)....anyone else like pie? 9)...I'm going to the bar. see you all next week.

  2. Everyone has the same problems. When I lived in El Paso the local news reported everything involving UTEP because they are the only show in town. They had problems with getting a parking garage built (which the governor even spoke about at a graduation I attended), horrible congestion getting in and out of campus which required road work (its a commuter school and not huge but it was awful for everyone), and just look at the problems Austin just gave them about the boxing match at the Sun Bowl (which Austin finally agreed to after being pains in the asses). Any time you get bureaucrats involved they are going to screw with plans so they can justify their existence. Even at Houston Cougar King. It's laughable considering the university approved it, the students voted to fund it, and a panel of politicians will hold it up because they can. It will get passed but they will slap their seal of final approval on it and claim it as one of their mighty achievements. Since they recognize it is needed, they wrote a letter stating it is needed, now they will sit on the idea, somebody is going to have to go kiss the ring / asses, then they will give their blessing, be given a silver shovel to attend the photo op, get their name in a paper somewhere, and place this achievement in their resume for their next job, and place the picture on their "Me" wall in their office. This was an abbreviation of events to come. I have seen this nonsense plenty of times. I really hate bureaucrats and politicians. Someone post their email addresses, phone numbers, contact info here and if possible another publication and let them have it. Did I mention I hate bureaucrats and politicians? I hope I don't get sick in the future because the same jackass on this panel will probably be in charge of my health care some day. Rant concluded.

  3. Not sure if this was worthy of its own thread.... but I'm sick of this. He just can't throw the damn ball with any consistent D1 level accuracy. It's killing us.

  4. Do we have any NT staff members on here? I have heard that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board might have voted down the union fee despite it being approved by a majority of students. It might have been sent out in an email to staff. I'm hoping this is not true, but this is the first place I thought to come to to find out if any staffers had heard this. If this is true, its time we all get together and protest this and tell Austin to quit voting to hold us back. They did the same thing with our athletic fee that they only let be applied to the stadium and then automatically terminate. Has anybody else heard anything about this. P.S. I know this may get moved, but this is an extremely important issue for the University.

  5. I dont intend to be negative and I'm surely not call ing for his head but I have a question about McCarney. Many on here have said things like "I love what he's doing talking to incoming freshmen" and "He's so inspirational when he speaks about North Texas". I've even heard "The team really believes in him and has responded well". Has anyone ever muttered the words "Wow, that was a brilliant job of coaching" or "Man, he really adjusted on the fly to the personell challenges he was given"? Or even "I totally did mot see that game plan coming...and neither did our opponent". Just a question.

  6. MTSU and WKU tied 1-1 tonight leaving NT, FIU, and MTSU all on 25 points. My assumption (although the Sun Belt doesn't have it posted anywhere) is that we go head-to-head to figure out the champion. The results from the head to head matchups between the three teams are: NT - 4 points (win over MTSU, tie vs. FIU) MTSU - 3 points (win over FIU, loss to NT) FIU - 1 point (loss to MTSU, tie vs. NT) Derek Thompson has congratulated the soccer team on Twitter, so he must be thinking the same thing.

  7. the first 3 quarters or until mtsu quit was the worst i've seen in my 10 years of watching our games. unprepared (with 4 extra days to prepare), poor game plans, poor play, no adjusting at halftime, etc. this was bad from the top down. my second observation, i've never seen such a bad game from a single player, that's not a qb as busby had. his day was rough! missed tackles, missed assignments, i think his mind missed the bus to the game. trice wan't much better, by the way. how the hell did they keep getting our safeties manned up on their wr's? but, we won the second half again! oh! i totally forgot about the genius (jason garrett like) call of not going for two to make it a 2 posession game at 38 - 24, but, then kickcing an onside kick??? that was laughable!

  11. This is what was sent. Dear UNT community, One of the steps in getting approval for a capital project is to get approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. On Thursday that board voted to reject our current plans for renovation and additions to the University Union Building. Although we had followed the procedures, the board members had concerns about the scope and cost of the project. We were disappointed with that decision but the board repeatedly told us that they understood that we needed a new building and that it was a good project. This is a student planned and student funded project and we believe we will be able to meet the concerns of the board and move forward. We are in full support of this student led initiative and will keep the campus community fully informed of our progress. Thank you for making UNT a great university. Sincerely, V. Lane Rawlins

  12. Man, I hate to be a kill joy, but this is a three-post thread on a UT board. That's like lauding your picnic cake because a couple ants went home to their mega colony to brag about the taste. Your poop reference made me laugh though.

  13. Needs to go grab some bench. If Osborn isn't the QB to start the second half I'm going to lose it. What a sh*t show.

  14. Again, every team has player personnel turnover EVERY YEAR!!!! We bullshitted our way through the lame ass Simon left us with nothing excuses, the Dickey left us with nothing excuses, and now we're doing it with Dodge. All the while, we have watched programs like FIU, WKY, Ark State, ULM and ULL through the years have success with their leftovers. ONLY AT NORTH TEXAS??? Rick

  16. I have to admit that I question some of our on the field decisions. Why not kick the field goal with the wind when down 17-0? I'm usually a "go for it guy", but we needed some points, and if Olen booted it out of the endzone on the kickoff, a three and out would have put us back in the game. At least at that point. Oh, does anyone else have a problem with us NEVER giving some snaps to our second team QB? There has been plenty of opportunities for that this year, and we are one ankle sprain away from putting in a guy with almost zero experience. Sorry if I missed an Ozzy insertion there in the second half, but I just couldn't watch every snap of this one.

  18. DT hasnt earned the right to stay on the field today. Sometimes a change has to be made. A good example: Texas pulling David Ash today after he had been ineffective all game long. Case Mccoy proceeds to lead them to victory. It may or may not work, but worth a shot.

  21. I don't care what anyone says, up until this point I haven't seen the team just completely give up out there. That is what happened today, it is Dodge-ball with running instead of passing. And I am not just talking about the score deficit being Dodge-like, I'm talking about the fact that both the coaching staff and players checked out early today. Disgraceful. This is freaking MTSU, not LSU. I'm probably just drunk but I'm concerned with what we have in place(players & coaches alike) in terms of making a bowl game in the next three years.

  22. all you Derek Thompson apologists need to open your eyes we aren't winning because of him, we won despite his short falls, lets move on to the next era because today is just as good as any because he has been terrible from the opening kick

  23. DT has not played good, but we are getting outcoached and Middle is flat out whipping us. It definitely looks like they want it more. I can understand going for it on 4th but the play call was not a good one at all. It was 4th and 3 not 4th and goal.

  24. A coach that doesn't trust his offense or his quarterback. Terrible receivers, and the best one hurt. A stubborn refusal to play your best running back until the game is basically over. A terrible day by the defense. Next week is going to be painful. I just hope we actually see another QB play in the second half of what is shaping up to be an epic blowout. Just to get some reps, if nothing else. And to top it off, our 5 watt "flagship" station loses it's transmitter before the start of the game, costing the 10 listeners that live close enough to get the signal when it is working to listen on line. Think I'll go sit in the nonexistent expansion zone of the student union and cry in my beer. Can't wait for Bball season.

  25. I think the failed 4th down play was an option call - DT had the option to throw to the open receiver. So instead of hitting the underneath slant for a first down DT throws into triple coverage on a fade and ... as usual ... overthrew the receiver.

  26. No Chancellor, no Delgado, poor tackling, Miller running a 4 yard pattern when we need 5, and a piss poor effort by our defense. Thompson isn't sharp, but there are many more issues than just him.

  27. Glad we gotta away from what worked the previous drive ...

  28. Perhaps the play calling is dull because they don't trust Thompson to throw the ball? We have no deep threat whatsoever and he can't seem to lob the ball consistently even to a receive who is 8 yards away. Have you considered this? The calls are created for the strengths and limitation of the QB.

  29. This. Lee F. Jackson was hired and is paid supposedly because he was/is well connected in Austin. Please tell me what this man does to earn his paycheck? Anyone? He has done nothing to earn his bloated pay from our institution. Typical of top heavy government institutions.

  32. Thanks for posting that. I was hoping there was a staff member on here that could post the actual email. I really hope NT fights this and tries to get it overturned rather than scaling down the project. What they are planning on building is what we need. It is not over the top. Its about time that Austin quits voting to hold us back even when our own students voted for it.

  33. That's what I figured. Too bad, it actually did answer a lot of questions I had been seeing pop up in the basketball forums. If anyone is an insider, here is the link: http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8555940/north-texas Also, if you get ESPN Magazine, you can get ESPN insider for free (that's how I get it), so if you get it, and didn't know that..now you do. If you were hoping for a fast paced offense under Benford, it seems as if you'll be in luck, as he mentions a few times how he likes the players he inherited because they fit the fast pace he likes to run. Praise for Mitchell is obviously there, but unlike most articles it actually goes in depth about other players as well (even mentions returning experienced size in Niko....). Blue Ribbon previews provide a quick graded analysis at the end as well. This is done on a typical grading scale (A, B, C, D, F) with +'s and -'s (A-, C+). There is no distinction between lower level conference teams and higher ones; if a team sucks, they're going to get an F...if they're great, they'll get an A, regardless of the conference. The 4 things they grade upon are Backcourt, Bench/Depth, Frontcourt, and Intangibles. In no particular order (but exactly the order you'd hope it'd be), we received grades of A, A, A+, A-. Is it November 9 yet?

  34. Not the defensive game plan i'd go with. Better to load the box and jam our receivers. With our quick passes, I wouldn't blitz. Contain the run and make DT beat you. Blitzing plays right into the quick passes/screens. If I was the Muts OC id throw deep a lot. If I was Chico I'd get the ball to Chancellor and Jimmerson in space a lot.

  35. Oh I know! Those lefties are always calling people names, conservatives or people that make money off calling themselves would never do that... Godless: The Church of Liberalism by Ann Coulter (Ann Coulter calling liberals godless, cute) Michael Moore Is a Big Fat Stupid White Man by David T. Hardy (pretty self explanatory, kind of agree with it, but still name calling) Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America by Ann Coulter (yup liberals are demonic, are you effing kidding me?!) Then there's this, "I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard," Coulter calling the President a "retard" “Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” ~Rush Limbaugh, while holding up a photograph of 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton on his 1993 television show (That's right, he was picking on a 13 year old.) “What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.” ~Rush Limbaugh, referring to Sandra Fluke And that's just scratching the surface. So please quit with the, name calling is a liberal lefty thing, it's ridiculous, it's both sides. I'm not saying this is right for either side to do, I wish we could elevate the conversation and not take it to the lowest common denominator, but it's certainly not a one sided thing.

We have more pride and confidence.. as our president said " the sky is our limit" GMG

  41. I think it is humorous and cute that we can take less than 100 years of actual climate data and think that we after 0.000000025% of earths history (assuming a 4 billion year old planet and a generous 100 years of data) that we are qualified to lump that minuscule amount of time into massive assumptions regarding the climate of the planet. Somebody said this before on this board ... We are not that important.... Ice ages on this planet have lasted thousands of years, there have been thousands of years of warmer climates as well.... We don't know what the average temp changes were year over year, decade over decade, or day over day back then like we do for the last 75years or so. To assume differently than that is arrogant at best and irresponsible and dangerous at worst. I am not saying that man doesn't have an effect on it all, we very well might. I just don't buy that such a small sample size gives us knowledge that insurmountable that we don't even consider that there might be cycles to the earths climate based on things much bigger than ourselves. That percentage of time that we have been recording this stuff is equivalent to auditing the flora and fauna of 0.004 sq mi of California and saying that we know all there is to know in this place, arrogance.

  43. Colony as an example (although I'm sure the precise timing was dumb luck) of making sure to sell the "brand", going into LR a huge percentage of commuters come in via I-30 from the north. The first billboard in Little Rock since summer has had Gus Malzahn's photo with the slogan "Game On". Wednesday morning commuters saw a new sign replacing it. Just the wolf logo with "Red Wolves Rising". Start with whatever the "hook" is and move to the brand. I suspect serious football fans in DFW know Coach Mac. Heck I don't follow the Big XII closely and I knew and respected him because he gave us fits coming into Arkansas raiding kids to Iowa State that we thought were absolute steals if we got them. And of course Apogee in of itself is marketing tool. If UNT hasn't done a wing-spread eagle logo superimposed over that wild end zone, I imagine it is simply a matter of time until some marketing genius says "hey that sort of looks like an eagle flying". I'm a big Sporting KC fan and they will market anything. The stadium, the players, anything they think will hook some interest. My mantra is "It takes years to be an overnight success." Get that foundation laid and then when the last pieces fall together everyone thinks "Wow look what they did IN JUST ONE YEAR" ( or two years). I've lived in a community with a fairly large private college and I doubt many people realize the advantage UNT holds over SMU. There is a built-in bias amongst most people against private colleges and their students. There are people who will come support UNT who have never taken a class there and none of their friends have either who would never do that for SMU.
