Regardless of whether or not it's "tough" on some people, it's absolutely the right way to go, because it plays into the strengths of this team's talents, and hides its flaws. The real test will be in recruiting. if we can't ever recruit up to the level of CUSA and beyond, it will absolutely fail, just as Dickey's did when recruiting slid. With all the attendance smack that one has to endure in the world of messageboards, I thought I would try to put together some rough numbers regarding Apogee. I did base the numbers off of the seating charts on TicketMaster, but I also tried to keep things in nice round numbers so I am sure there will be discrepancies on individual sections. Once you start looking at the numbers, it is a little easier to get an idea of butts in seats when looking out across the stadium. Back in the early 80's, a bunch of drunken fraternity brothers formed a group called the Mean Green Dunk Club. They sat in the front row and whenever Ken Lyons, Delonte Taylor, David Vasher, ect. got a dunk, they spelled out VAVOOM with cards. V-A-V-O-O-M- VAVOOM! The reference being to a little known character in the old Felix the Cat cartoons. Vavoom was a little guy who yelled out "Vavoom"! and it made buildings, mountains, ect. crumble. You can youtube Vavoom to see him. They didn't have as many prolific dunkers as this year's group will have. I always thought it was very unique. Something I have never seen at any other game. I think this would be cool and a great tradition to bring back with this year's squad. We will be getting some national attention this season and it would be cool to have something that we don't have to copy from another school. Hopefully some new college students will take this challenge and bring back the Mean Green Dunk Club for the old guys that supported North Texas basketball back in the day! Go Mean Green!

So, I'm at my friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart on the Frisco/Little Elm border sporting my Mean Green lid. While I'm putting my groceries on the conveyor belt thingy, the old lady cashier says, "North Texas?" I say, "Yes'm. North Texas." "They had a pretty good game last night, they won, right?" she asks. "Yes'm, they did," said I. "They beat that team that won the Super Bowl last year," she said definitively. I stopped unloading groceries and looked at her...then said, "Yes...yes, they did!" My parent taught me to repect my elders, so I wasn't going to discuss the nuances of this Bowl versus that Bowl with her.

Obviously, if we were Wisconsin and could get Wisconsin talent, I would have no concern. We aren't. I think at this level, it comes down to development as much as it does recruiting. Do you develop major college players that have raw talent, but for whatever reason, did not get recruited by the big programs (too small, too light, a step too slow)? Dodge was absolutely terrible about developing talent. Jury is still out on DMac. I think he can do it, but we are not Florida, S. Florida, or Iowa St. Yes, I know Iowa St. was bad when he took over, but at least they had the advantage of being in a major conference, so they had access to talent that we don't. Yes, I think he can do it, but the proof is in the pudding (i.e. winning seasons, bowl games, and eventually conference championships).

Schedules, especially in college football, are planned years in advance. You can't afford to worry about it later.

O line is still pretty young for the most part, hopefully we'll start seeing performances like Tuesday nights in the last 5 games.

That is because we were ripping off 6, 7, 8 yards per carry. If it's working, fine. If not... You have to have balance, plain and simple. We don't right now. Hopefully we will in the future. Again, I get that Mac is trying to instill a physical mindset into his football team, but it is tough on those who have sat through losing season after losing season. This may work next week. I don't think it works against Ark St., WKU or Monroe. We shall see.

I have season tickets on the other side but I try to stand a lot of the game. Normally I get asked to sit down haha. Maybe they can do something more modern. A phrase from NBA jam back in the mid 90s. They announcer always had crazy things to say.

It was across the street from the Flying Tomato, next to Voertman's. And...it was pretty much like the Delta Lodge in the Animal House movie...only, probably more crude. Classic. The frat for the artsy/hippie/indie North side of the campus.

I grew up with Cabe. Cub Scouts and everything, until he transferred over to Lake Highlands. That's a cat of a different breed, Cabe. The kettle corn is really good stuff. We just haven't bought any in a while because it argues with the kids' braces. I think it's great that we've got local businesses doing concessions in there instead of the same standard stuff at every stop. Beth Marie's, Kolache Haven, even Rudy's and Sonic. (It was kinda nice to drink a diet cherry limeade at the Troy game.) I hope when Houston gets the new stadium off the ground, they do something similar.

I asked RV about that a few months ago, and he said he couldn't see it anytime in the foreseeable future. He wouldn't mind having one, but just doesn't know how we could make it work. I didn't press him on it, so if you want a detailed explanation you'll have to ask him.

This win DID NOT clinch the conference title. NT leads the conference race and can clinch with a win @ WKU next week. We control our own destiny with one game remaining. We tied FIU, which is the only blemish on our record, but that also means that anything less than a win at WKU means MTSU (whose only blemish is a loss to us) could also win the championship.

It will take more than 6 wins to get to the post season.
