Maybe you should take your expo marker up to the Mean Green Village tomorrow and draw it up for Mac on the whiteboard then.5 points

What a derailed thread. Who gives a crap about which town is better. Stick to the facts of the game. UNT got their asses handed to them. Terrible Mean Green football, some of the worst I've seen in a long time. And for those who think it's best not to schedule a University of Houston, what are you gonna do in the future? Run away from every FBS team in the state, for fear of them beating the Mean Green? Who's next? Tx State-San Marcos, utsa?????? We either suck it up and play some real football in FBS, drop down to the Southland or, better yet, start a new league with Sul Ross, Tarlton State, A&M Kingsville, etc., so we have a chance of winning some games, or just drop football altogether. Again, that was terrible football against Houston. I was embarrassed. And for those who are predicting UNT to be the next Duke in basketball, why not wait until we play a few games first. I'm sure we'll be good and all, but let's not embarrass ourselves with basketball predictions too.4 points

For me horrible scheduling is facing the LSU's and Alabama's of the world every single year. With all due respect to Houston it's just Houston. Yes they've been pretty decent the last few years but they're still beatable. If we can't schedule the Houston's of the world for fear of not winning or having a chance then something is wrong.3 points

I have been around here 40+ years, and yes it takes time. Look at Fry's first couple of years and half the board was at aone house of worship this morning praying for his return. This coaching staff is the best we have had since then, and they deserve more than a year a half. This team is young, had minimal depth when Dodge departed and will continue to improve. Fans jumping on and off the bandwagon like fleas on a stray dog is ridiculous. They are attempting to right over 30 years of wrongs. Nobody said it was easy being a North Texas fan, but a dose of realism never hurt.3 points

You newbies that think he should get a lot of time....People on here that have been following this team for 20 years plus have been there, done that... Oh I was ALL ABOUT "everyone needs to lay off Dodge, he needs more time! I said it WAY too long, defended him too many times. When he was finally let go, my first thought of clarity was, that should have happened 18 months ago. I don't think Mac should be shown the door. But I think people should be held accountable. Do I think everything should be corrected at this point? Certainly not. But I would like to think the going into season 2, we should be past the point of embarrassing ourselves, miscues, not looking competitive. I know Mac won't be given the time that Dodge was given. At some point, RV will have to start answering to people above him.3 points

Running backs is the least of our worries... You dont have to have 1 stud back, Byrd, Jimmerson, Brown tandem is isnt our problem3 points

Truth. I just want us to look promising. This team reminds me of Dickey.3 points

Nobody is given four recruiting classes any more to turn a program around.3 points

Then this is not the same team that competed well at LSU and KSU. UH and UNT are moving in opposite directions?3 points

The transitive theory of wins doesn't apply in football. Different day, different team, different game.3 points

Short answer: yes he is. Barry Switzer once said great players make great coaches. McCarney inherited a mess. He is turning it around but it takes time and 4 recruiting classes.3 points

False. He was ineligible to play in the Sun Belt as well. The reason he had to wait out for the Fall semester last year was because he had to get 30 credits total or something like that before he qualified academically by NCAA standards. The reason he came here and didn't do that at Mizzou is because the Big 12 does not give nonqualifiers a chance to re-establish their eligibility, whereas the Sun Belt does. If he was academically eligible, and enrolled here in the Spring, he would have been able to play last Fall.3 points

Texas St beats the crap out of Houston. Houston beats the crap out of us. Yes, this is relevant, because we could have had either. Not taking any sides here, but DFran already has a signature win (for Tx St,. Anyway), while we continue with soul crushing losses. I really don't know if this program will ever turn around.2 points

It's year two with a new coach. We saw improvement against (now) two top ten teams, but still lost. We got crushed by a team that lost to Texas State that put up video game stats against a defense we thought was improving, beat a struggling FCS team, and beat a team that has the look of an FCS team (FAU). We can still win 4-6 games, but have to play better than we thought. However, it appears that there was some ridiculous shortfalls in fan expectation management. I submit the following points for consideration. 1. We have absolutely no depth. 2. We are still seeking an answer to the question of who replaces Dunbar. 3. We have really one offensive weapon who gives a particular anal pucker factor. 4. (Building off point 3) We have limited speed. 5. We have no consistency. 6. We lack solid quarterback play. Now, I will give him this- Thompson has balls, but he lacks that "This is my team" swagger which Scott Hall had ( I know a thing or two about swagger.) If you think this can be fixed in a year and change, you are sorely mistaken. While I admire the passion some of you have in here, it's time to stop jerking your knees. I myself am giving him until the end of next year, when he has an allegedly talented quarterback and another off-season to build size, speed and talent pools. I will say this- give the ball to Osborn. What do we have to lose? Don't want to pile on the dude, but Thompson may not be the guy. We've already seen McNulty isn't the dude. Fire away, but stand by for counter battery fire. Bad Karma out.2 points

A 1-11 Indiana team, whose lone victory was a 2 TD win over a FCS school? NOT A SIGNATURE WIN. EVER.2 points

How pathetic. Bringing up game day atmosphere, t shirt sales, comparing cities and wins in other sports. Seriously? About a football game? What does that have to do with anything? Are you so desperate to grab onto anything to to make an argument? That has nothing to do with the game that they completely dominated us in. STFU and just admit that we got our asses handed to us. You would think that grown men would know how to take a loss. WE GOT F***ING WORKED!!2 points

Glad to hear we had a good showing and I disagree with the assessment that we will have poor attendance the rest of the way.2 points

Ok, I've kept my mouth shut for too long. First of all, get a life, dude. You sound quite pathetic when you have to go on another team's board to talk smack, don't you have your own? Secondly, get a life. Oh wait, I already said that. Great things are happening at NT and will continue to and I'm sure UH is making strides as well. In football, you are ahead but we all know how quickly programs can rise and fall, so please shut your mouth if you're going to sound condescending on here. Bottom line, get a life and be productive, i.e. get the heck out of here. I'm trying to be nice here, don't push it.2 points

I'll wait until we actually play and beat someone that matters. Yes, we have a lot of potential, but as someone once said. that just means you haven't done anything yet. It is very possible this place comes unglued after the Creighton game. Also, we have a head coach who has never been a head coach before. Is he a good in-game coach? Can he master rotations? We don't know yet. A lot of excitement going into the season, but a ton of unknowns, also. Can Coleman be effective this year? Has JWill and CJ improved their outside shot? Too many variables to know where we stand right now.2 points

The bridge is finished just in time for no one to walk over it.2 points

The legend of Scott Hall continues to grow with every bad QB we have had. Quite frankly Hall does not beat Houston because this was an an out of conference game. We continue to have horrible recruiting classes. 2013 is shaping up to rank up there with the best. So much for Mac easily blaming past problems on Todd Dodge. With his 5- yr plan, there is no sense of urgency to win. We continue to go after undersized projects with the hope of putting 30-40 pounds on them and reduce their speed. Not the ideal way to sustain a program, but Mac needs to hit the juco's hard in December for major college talent. Otherwise, we will miss another generation of potential fans who knows nothing other than losing at UNT.2 points

Offense isn't the problem. We had almost 500 yards of offense against UH. The problem is...we gave up 623 on defense - 302 rushing and 321 passing. Again, and I'll keep saying it: DEFENSIVE LINE. McCarney is a good coach, so are his coordinators and assistants. But, if they don't get the DL line depth and talent situation worked out, it will all be nothing but a fart in the wind.2 points

Hey guys last week you were busting my nuts because I did not see the improvements with the Mean Green especially the defense. You said I must be blind and not a good fan to not see the improvements. Well guys you need to pass me your green cigarette because I still don't see it. 600+ yards against our defense is no improvement in anyones book.2 points

No one is arguing that sometimes just you dont have the horses... I'd just like to see something different/creative tried with the horses you have... how unreasonable is that?2 points
-
Given a first year coach's first recruiting class is usually a 50/50 throwaway, but i'd like to see more than one guy Mac has brought in (outside of walkons) contributing at the skill positions. I'd also like to see the potential (outside of a transient QB transfer) in this next class at the skill positions. I don't see it.2 points

My only bright side for years has been tailgating, I think that it hurts the most now because I was seeing what I felt was true progress against the bigboys LSU and K-State. Now I feel sucker punched.2 points

We hardly ever throw the short pass, slant over the middle, etc....Houston did this alot and kicked our ass....Someone on Dan Mac show on Mondays asked a simple question...why when we need 6 yrds on a 3rd and 6, we throw for 4 yds...ball caught...but short...punt......Dan skipped over the question, didn't answer it..complete BS...I really pissed me off he didn' address the question....I thnik he owes us answers why we can only beat a BCS school or a FAU who has only beated Wagner...whoever the hell they are.2 points

If we try to press and they blow past us I think fans can stomach that. The slow death of pitch and catch and the occasional missed tackle fir a long gainer is harder to stomach.1 point

Yes, Mac is a good coach. And he was better than the other candidates. The Belt is having an up year, so our expectations might be out of touch with what's really going on. A lot of experts had this team going 5-6, but noting we'd be a better team facing a harder schedule. So far our record is exactly as predicted by the major outlets.1 point
