  2. You're the peach. No promises on the PeachBasket, but I'll see what I can't do to contribute on a few this season. Understatement.

  4. I'm thinking he comes out for the first home game in Apollo Creed's outfit in the original Rocky, with James Brown's "living in America" being played by the basketball band (not over the crappy PA system). He could point, Apollo Creed-like, to a huge sign in the student section that says "Tony Mitchell for All-American" and yell as loud as he can "I want you!!!" Then he could rip off the Uncle Sam-like outfit to expose his UNT uniform. Release that bit of video to ESPN, and you have an instant Sportscenter classic moment. Edit: if life imitates art, he wins All-American honors by a split decision.

  5. Mac passes the ball much more than Dickey did: Over the last two years Mac has averaged about 1.5 runs for every pass play called. In the bowl years Dickey's ratios were: 2.1, 2.7, 2.5 and 2.2; we also averaged about 4.1 yards a run. Interestingly, in Dickey last two disastrous years the ratio fell to about 1.5. For comparison, in Dodge's three full years that ratio was: 0.7, 0.7, 1.0 Looking at the numbers tells me that Scott Hall should be in the HOF right now. His play seems to be the real difference between our bowl games and what has happened recently. Two big stats jump out. Hall's Yards Per Passing Attempt were good. 2001: 7.5 2003: 9.3 2004: 7.7 For comparison here is the ratio for the six years after: 2005: 4.7 2006: 5.2 2007: 6.3 2008: 5.6 2009: 6.5 2010: 6.9 Hall's TD to Interception Ratio was outstanding: 2001: 1.5 2002: 2.6 2003: 3.5 Again, for comparison: 2005: 0.5 2006: 0.7 2007: 0.9 2008: 0.9 2009: 0.6 2010: 2.8 Interestingly, Thompson seems to be on track to hit two magic numbers this year. First off, his YPA is 7.5, the first QB to keep that above 7 since Scott Hall. Second, his TD/INT ratio is exactly 2.0.

  6. I never really saw Dickey's teams as boring when we were demolishing teams. In fact it was hilarious to watch the other teams get frustrated at not being able to do anything when we ran for 5 yards at a time and sucked their will to win away while at the same time sucking clock time. Precision clock management and devastating defenses. That isn't boring to me. Wins are fun.

  7. But that was a good loss. The cowboys hung close till the second half. Lots of positives in this loss. I'd much rather have this loss then a win against Jacksonville.

  8. Actually, it's basically Trent Johnson's schedule...save for JJ making the wise career decision of not playing UNT. If you took the time to look at LSU's schedule from '11-'12 you'd notice many of the same schools. Common sense is a bitch sometimes, huh?

  10. NBC is doing a Preseason Top 25. North Texas listed in the other receiving vote section of the story (basically puts us in the Top 40 overall)... North Texas: Last Season: 18-14, 9-7 Sun Belt (5th) Key Losses: Johnny Jones (coach) Key Returnees: Tony Mitchell (14.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.0 bpg), Chris Jones (14.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.4 spg), Jordan Williams (10.9 ppg), Alzee Williams (10.5 ppg) Key Newcomers: Tony Benford (coach), TJ Taylor, Keith Coleman, Clarke Overlander, PJ Hardwick Outlook: Normally, teams that finish fifth in the Sun Belt aren’t destined to be top 25 programs, but this Mean Green team is anything but normal. Mitchell is a lottery pick that never was eligible at Missouri. Jones and Jordan Williams were academically ineligible for the second semester last season. Taylor signed with Oklahoma out of high school and Marquette out of Junior College. Roger Franklin transferred in from Oklahoma State. Benford has a very, very good team on his hands. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/01/top-25-countdown-others-receiving-votes/

  11. I note that you felt you had to disguise the "eat $3!%!" rather than use the exact word. That is exactly what I was hoping would occur. If you have to disguise the language on a fan board because it is inappropriate, don't you also think that same language is inappropriate used as part of student chants........and especially as part of the university fight song? Exhibiting "class" is timeless - I can curse with the best of 'em, but not at the top of my lungs and not in a public location - and CERTAINLY not while singing the university fight song. But I guess it is to each his own - but it is pretty classless.

  15. Look, I agree. I've slacked off posting a lot because of all the complaining and stupid band talk and colors and pageantry. Some people come here for different things. Get used to it. In fact, some of the people who thought this board was too "fluffy kitten joke" for them and wanted to have serious talks about not enough ice in cups and how the new bridge roof angle doesn't exactly match the wing endzone angle here at UNT went off and talk amongst themselves on another board. I agree with you on the point that sometimes things are too serious here. It's a fine line that I think Harry and his mods do a really good job walking. Also, if you'd bother to see who writes certain things you could learn to block or just accept that it's only a couple of people. So, good job making a point I agree with. Also, you are just as big an embarrassment and the crap you spew/spewed here as rjmunthe and meangreener on other sites. I don't get it, one sentence you are saying something I agree with, and within the same paragraph I am face palming because you make us all look like idiots. It's obvious you're a young fan. Painfully obvious. We've got young posters here too, we aren't all 60. But you made no effort to get to know anyone here, and have distanced yourself from this board for what amounts to a difference of opinion with a couple of people that you couldn't handle. You don't have to be 60 to act like an adult. And being 18 isn't an excuse for acting like a child. Also, I'd like to clarify what I consider childish: Making obvious sophomoric pop culture jokes isn't the same as being totally disrespectful of other fans, of your team or not. Maybe get good at bashing other schools with current and tasteful material. I was a big defender of you on this board because I liked the different view you brought before you dropped your brand of "passion" (profanity-laced-so-serious-it-was-sad) on us. Without you bringing the funny, it is completely unappreciated by me.

  17. 26. Prime age. But you need to learn who to go after who doesn't want marriage. They don't play at Robertson Stadium, but they are called cougars, and lord knows they run the spread effectively (TMI?) You can find them three wide at martini bars, or in an I-form at a charity event. They are usually accompanied by linewomen known as Bertha, Roseanne, and Shaniqua. They like men over 55 who can regale them with stories about the ABA and Woodstock, and men under 30 with ambitions that don't remember what it was like when a typewriters were used to compose papers. Their clock is not ticking but their glass is low, and they are looking for guys like you, Green Jackal, to fill it up.

  19. The video is now up on meangreensports.com. A reporter asked Mac about Cam and he basically just said Cam isn't just isn't ready. It isn't that he isn't trying or he has a bad attitude but he's just not ready. So it's not as bad as it sounded from Vito's article. Mac said they have six offensive linemen who play every week ... and he would like to rotate more guys in ... but they just don't yet trust any other offensive linemen than the top six.

  20. 30? That's because she is getting close to Advanced Maternal Age (AMA). They know that clock is ticking, time to start having kids or else...the ship is starting to leave the port! There are two ways to avoid it. Either date women in low 20's or women who already had a couple kids and are divorced. Eventually you will hit 30 and find yourself picking up some 21 year old girl who still lives with her parents. You'll roll up to her parent's house in your nice new convertible (reward for not getting married or having kids). Her Dad will be standing in the kitchen window staring at you. You will meet her brother who is still in High School who thinks your car is really cool and wants to start hanging out with you. Then you'll go to the other extreme and find yourself dating a woman with baggage, but a reliable baby sitter. It won't be so bad until one of her kids decides to start calling you "Daddy". This is why guys eventually get married.

  25. Denial: avoiding reality by denying its existence. How many schools from small conferences made it to the big leagues by playing the hardest teams they could schedule? Boise is the poster child for how to get there nationally. From 1999- 2007 how many top 25 teams did they play (not counting bowls)? 4 two were conference games. When they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta bowl, that was the first ranked team they had played that year. They went 13-0 and they were the only undefeated team. They were ranked 5th & got the only vote for first place other than Florida - the national champions. They got there by winning. They didn't get there by having season after season wrecked by body bag fiascos. There are dozens of small conference teams that continually play money games year after year. They are stuck on a treadmill to nowhere. We need to build a winning tradition.

  35. I tended bar down on Fry in the mid to late 90's and would often challenge a random customer to sing our fight song. If they could do it I promised to buy their drinks all night. Never had to buy a single drink for anyone. So your point about FB players not knowing the song 10-15 years ago carries weight with me. Now I bet Id have to buy a few drinks. Things have changed and are changing. We will get to the top of this mountain.

  39. You know, the more I see Tony Mitchell's name come up in the media, it is starting to be tagged with something like "Potential All-American", or "Sleeper for All-American honors". I hope this thread doesn't delve into the depths of the perpetual Athletic-Department-isn't-doing-enough argument, but I would love to know what is being done to help get Tony on the All-American voters' radars more than he already is. I know that it mostly boils down to how he plays, but I'm really confident in what he does on the court... Off the court, he seems like an awesome dude as well. No character issues, humble, overall great guy. I know the fans have a small part in pumping him up (maybe some signs from our favorite signmaker ladies), and I certainly hope that the AD has earmarked some funds to Tony's All-American campaign. But, since Tony made the best decision of his career coming to little ol' North Texas, he waved his chances at playing on national TV all the time, so the media won't really get a chance to see him. I think his best chances of making an All-American squad would be for UNT to make it to at least the finals of the preseason NIT, beat at least 1 out of the 3 big non-conference matchups outside of the preseason NIT tourney (Lehigh, St Louis, Creighton), and finally, win a regular-season SBC championship (plus the SBC tourney) with a nice seed in the NCAA tourney to possibly upset someone and make noise (else win, or at least quarterfinal/semifinal in the postseason NIT). I think he can do it, because I think this TEAM can do it!

  43. Yeah, I like "school spirit" that makes it look like UNT doesn't provide an education to its students. We can find better words to use that don't reflect poorly on our school. And I don't really care if the players like it. There are 100k+ alumni that have passed through the school before any of these players and these kinds of embarrassing acts make the rest of us look bad. You can't let a bunch of 18-22 year olds make all the decisions about what is best for everyone.

  45. North Texas gained more respect playing LSU & playing well at Kansas than we did by beating Texas Southern and FAU. If all you want is a win let's drop down to Div II and play Texas A&M - Commerce. For my part, I want my university to play at the highest level of college athletics - nothing less.
