I was able to see the Mean Green buses arrive this afternoon and the guys looked focused exiting the bus. I also like the fact that they wear dress shirts and ties - very sharp and professional. After the game the guys went to leave the feel and were throwing up the Talon sign to our section. We waved them over and sure enough they turned and made a b line for our section. The faithful hit the front row and gave them high fives as they all marched in front of the gathered fans and thanked us for coming. The team looked exhausted and it was steamy. There were some smiles but on the whole a controlled pride and steady satisfaction. I shouted "now onto H-town!" Next week is going to be outstanding and FUN! I want to see a monster Mean Green Nation turnout down there because I found a few diehards in Boca Raton, but there should be no shortage of tailgates to crash next week. The FAU football stadium is nice and they have a nice in game program. However, the tailgating scene was weak. It was very spread out and there just didn't seem to be much energy around it. It also started kind of late or later than our Hill gets going. I think the poor start had that effect too. I still like our stadium so much more. The aluminum seating just didn't look as traditional. I think I also have aluminum nightmares staring at those empty bleachers in Fouts for all those years! All in all it was great to see the Mean Green win again. Coach even came by and did the high fives with the fans in the stands - awesome! GMG4 points

Houston has played against some of the worst defenses in football. From the NCAA stat site: TOTAL DEFENSE #41 North Texas - 350.80 ypg #70 UCLA - 397.80 ypg #118 Louisiana Tech - 529.75 ypg #119 Rice - 559.00 ypg Texas State - 495.25 ypg DEFENSES UNT Has Played Against Houston is #111 488.00 ypg in total defense (Rushing #100 202.25 ypg, Passing #105 255.75 ypg) #4 LSU #45 K-State #67 Troy #89 FAU3 points

I also have ties to both schools. However, I'm going with the Mean Green in this one. Here is why: 1. Piland did not beat Rice yesterday. Charles Sims did. True, Piland did have a few good series where the Coog offense looked like the Coog offense but I still saw the same no-touch-passes at receiver's feet. Rice could not stop Sims who had a very nice game. However, UNT has been stout this year against the run so I do not see Sims running all over UNT like they did Rice. 2. Rice looked downright awful. Without their starting QB the game was over before it started. They offense was, well, worse than ours against Troy. 3. Hostile environment? Not this year, my first game at the Rob was the loss to Texas State. If they can go in there and run all over UH's defense, you better believe a better UNT club can do the same. Still lots of work to do and improvement to realize, but this team has eclipsed a higher win total in 17 games than the previous 43. If that's not immediate and marked improvement, I don't know what is.3 points

Funny, I was thinking that if only we had won that game, it would have been awesome. I don't understand why people have such fond memories of a game we not only lost, but gave up over 70 points in while losing.3 points

Cougar King...Rice is a program that should be D1-AA....there are some high school teams that could give Rice a tough game if not beat them. If Bailiff lasts the rest of the season, it will surprise everyone. Don't hang your hat on beating Rice Owls. UH should be more concerned about loosing to Tx St and La Tech than excited about beating Rice. UNT - 31 HOUSTON - 143 points

Open your eyes, this isn't a Canales offense. He's got 3 guys in his ear telling him to run. Because of this, our offense is predictable. And stop blaming Thompson. On the pick, Delgado was supposed to run a slant, and ran the wrong route(he gets a little blame for that, but not 100%). Thompson threw 2 perfect deep balls today, but as soon as we get a lead, it's right back to running the ball and being predictable. Thompson has been bad at times this year, but today was not one of those days. Mac needs to take the cuffs off Chico, and let him work. Until that happens, this is the offense you're gonna see every week. /rant Go Mean Green!3 points

Harry, I think you're awesome but even the players are asking the fans to hold them to higher standards. Im happy about the win. However, I'm sure Mac isn't thrilled about having three shots at the end zone after penalties and only coming away with three points. Btw congrats to Olen for rebounding after a tough game.3 points

I definitely think there's room to break down what went well and what went wrong. Houston will, and they'll keep eight men near the LOS all game. With that said, we are a better passing game OR a better kicking game last week away from being 3-2. That's LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything in the Dodge era.3 points

Problem is not play calling or play design. PROBLEM is no QB and defenses don't have to fear the pass at ALL!!!!!THOMPSON can't hit anything more then 5 yards down the field and everyone in the stadium knows it!!!!3 points

Well, as you guys know we blew out Rice and took our foot off the gas en-route to an easy victory. You guys edged out Florida Atlantic and went home with a win. Now that we both have taken care of some owls, its time for our game. I have ties to both schools, but I'm taking my Coogs in this one, here's why. First of all, The Rob is one of the toughest stadiums to play in. (We only lost about 5 games there in the last 5-6 years), we wre 0-3 before Saturday and still brought 30k+ to Reliant. It's a given that the Rob will be sold-out or near sold-out by Friday. UNT has historically had trouble playing in a hostile environment and the red and the anarchic feel the Rob has, makes most teams uncomfortable. Second, we have one of the best passing attacks in the country, Piland has almost thrown for 2,000 yards this season, we have a young but talented corps of receivers in Spencer, McDuffie, Rodriguez, our 5-star recruit Greenberry and a few others. We have arguably the best running back in C-USA in Simms. Our defense has been no slouch lately either. Our safeties WILL blitz and knock Thompson's lights out if he doesn't get rid of the ball. I've seen a lot of discussion on here since I signed up about changing the culture here at UNT in regards to sports, especially football. And, I think we all agree that there are 3 different major groups whose mindsets need to be changed in order to do that: students, alumni, and unaffiliated community. In regards to students, it's already happening. Having Mac talk to every incoming freshman at each orientation every year has done wonders in helping change the mindset of the students here at UNT, and I feel that it's definitely heading in the right direction. With alumni, from what I've gathered here is that the people who support already are going to continue to do so, and it's just a matter of the school and the involved alumni continuing to reach out and establish a connection with other alumni. And, at least in my opinion, the community is the hardest to reach about this. Fielding a winning team that will get people excited, the conference change, opening Apogee, etc., are all things that have helped or will soon help, but there is still a disconnect there. Earlier today I was thinking about how to possibly get all 3 groups excited at once, and what would do that. Then, I realized that one of the problems is a lack of a major tradition, and the lack of tradition and history in general. I certainly don't mean that we do not have a great history, because we do, but we may as well have none at all because no one seems to have any clue about the tradition and history of the school and athletic programs. No one knows why we have 2 names for sure, no one can even agree on what the "real" name is. So I decided that we should start establishing a tradition to look forward to every year (though we also need to make our history a bit more well known somehow as well, but that's not where my idea lies). We need something that can be used as an attendance booster in the middle of every season, in the student section and the community section, and probably the alumni section as well. My idea is a "Black Out" game. Black uniforms (not ridiculous ones like Oregon or anything, same style but black instead of green), everyone in the stands wear's black, have a special offer for the wing section where you can get half price tickets if you show up wearing black, etc. There is so much that we can do with this. Obvioiusly, we could do a green or white out game instead, but I think black out works best because it's gimicky and trendy enough to get your average student excited, and it's something different and unique to look forward to every year. Anyone like the idea? Anyone have a better idea? Anyone have any clue on how we could get something like this started? I think it's really important to establish some kind of tradition that will get people excited every year. Besides, how intimidating would Apogee look 100% sold out with a sea of black in the stands?2 points

I've been saying this. I'd much rather be defending the legitimacy of a 5-0 record than trying to convince people that the LSU/KSU losses were "really good losses when you think about it". TxSouthern was an opportunity to roll up some big numbers and we didn't do it. At some point we have to actually be good on the field for any of this to matter.2 points

I really really want to be a UNT homer as I always am...but our offense in the red zone scares me. We had three touchdown opportunities handed to us on a silver platter by FAU's penalties and we couldn't convert. Our defense has been holding up well against teams, and kudos to them. But Houston is capable of putting up a decent amount of points and we need our offense to dominate the game to 1) Keep the defense fresh and 2) Put up more points than Houston. If we're able to keep Houston's D honest by throwing the ball around more effectively so that they don't stack the box and also convert in the red zone, I think we can win it. Unfortunately, our offense hasn't been great at doing those two things thus far. If Offense Clicks and Defense Stands North Texas - 27 Houston - 21 If Offense Struggles in Red Zone and Lets Houston Stack the Box North Texas - 10 Houston - 24 Here's to the offense clicking and the defense having a hell of a game! I don't want to give up on Thompson, but want to see Osborne mixed in with him (kind of like Troy does at times with its backup qb, but for more plays, and used enough that it's not obvious it will be a pass when he's in there). The overall point would be to score more points. I really think this could help Thompson by giving him a breather and a chance to talk with the coaches on the sidelines about what to do when he goes in next.2 points

Found out the the ref mic problem at Apogee has been a bit of a mystery and struggle to fix, but they seem to have located the problem and are working with Manhatten Construction to get it fixed. You may not believe this but they work when tested. Problem was they were tested when no crowd was at Apogee. Seems it is a bad cell tower placement AND, get this, the fact that so many people on the highway and in Apogee during games are ON THEIR cell phones! Yep, all the folks on and the fact that the stadium is down in a hole as far as towers are concerned and because it is right between two big towers is causing the problem. I am not a teach guy so don't understand all that was explained to me, but I did understand that it will be fixed, that it is pretty expensive to fix and that lots of folks are working on it. No one likes it and everyone knows it MUST be fixed and fixed soon. So, to all the folks that thought everyone was just sitting around doing nothing about it...WRONG...lots of folks working omit andIT WILL BE FIXED. Thought that was good news...really surprised to hear what the problem has been....funny about all the cell phones I thought, but that's something that can be fixed wi some fairly expensive antenna replacements. I think we'll see improvement soon. Thought you might like to know...I was pretty happy to hear the fix is on the way and that it could be fixed. Was a bit of a mystery as to why at first as it worked fine ever time they had folks out to test the thing....ahhhh, they mysteries of life........2 points

I can't believe we got 3 red zone chances on one drive and only came up with 3 points. Credit to Olen for kicking 9 points worth, but when that opportunity presents itself against that team and you piss it away like that... I don't care if it's against the best defense in the nation, our offense should be able to do something when you get 3 looks at it.2 points

Actually, cell phone signal frequencies and wireless microphone frequencies are very close together. In fact, the FCC pissed off a lot of people last year or the year before by taking some frequencies allocated for wireless mics and selling the right to use those to cell operators. Thousands of wireless mic systems were effected. We had two wireless mic kits at work and one of them operates on the now banned frequencies. It just sits in a drawer because it's illegal to use those frequencies for that purpose now. Remember in "This is Spinal Tap" when the guitar wireless set was picking up the radio signals from thr airforce base? Same thing.2 points

After he was taken out last week for not getting two above 40yarders in, he came back strong this week, and it was very important. Should be a real confidence booster, for him and for Macs trust in his special teams. This clearly was our best special teams effort of the season so far (Ok that doesn't take much)1 point

Agree. I thought Thompson would be serviceable going into the season. Saw enough out of last year to think he'd elevate his game this season. I really wanted for him to be better, but it seems he's regressed. Not trying to attack the guy, I hope he gets it together, we need him to be better. I want him to be better.1 point
