I still can't believe the play were NT calls an unnecessary time out in the red zone, then substitute late and get a delay of game penalty and after all that run a play that got nothing. Then have a freshman walk on try a field goal and miss. That is bad coaching and game preparation.9 points

They really should have just let Olen kick that chip shot, it might have helped swing his confidence back the other way. Special teams have been awful AGAIN.6 points

I agree. It was the worst coaching I've seen since Dodge iced our kicker. McCarney's post game interview only made things worse, because it sounded like the old Dodge comments. This loss was not a team effort. The Defense held Troy to 14 points, and UNT beat Troy in almost every statistical catagory. We lost this game beause Thompson was inconstistant at QB, couldn't do squat in the red zone, and our kicking game didn't show up for the game. McCarney, Riddle, and Canales all share in the blame for this one. I saw RV walking the sideline at the end of the game and he looked pissed. The fans showed up and were loud. This team let the fans down, and some won't be back. That really pisses me off. This program was right where we've been wanting to be, and f***ed it up. Now, unless we destroy both FAU and Houston, our ULL game on ESPN2 will look like a MAC game on T.V., with empty stands. It's just embarrassing.4 points

Someone needs to remind DT to set his feet when he throws. Ugly game tonight, looks like we may need a defensive TD or some huge play. Unbelievable.4 points

I am the biggest UNT fan there is. However, going forward from this game will be tough for the rest of us students. I'll be there regardless, but other students WILL NOT show up to future games if our team continues to look like what they did tonight. We're so close to having this student fan base show up in consistent numbers, such a shame what happened tonight. Gonna be hard to look good on ESPN2..3 points

Needs to be better. Missing on too many throws, and his decision making on 3rd downs has been poor. I'd like to see more wildcat as well.3 points

Eric Capper@Eric_Capper I see my man @c__robertson getting the start for the #Browns at LB today. Has played his way into more than just a special teams contributor3 points

This. I really can't believe the whole fan base is/was dying to bring back a coach that was 56-85. If that is the case then maybe there is a reason why Iowa State is Iowa State.3 points

Out coached my ass. They players didnt execute. Olen being completely inept is the coaches fault? DT missing on over half of his throws is the coaches fault? The players play the game, they were put in a position to win, and choked under pressure. It's that simple. You could say we were out recruited... But this staff has only been there 2 years, so that would also be an unfair statement.3 points

My view wasn't one where I could see every receiver on the field at once, so you could be right. But, there has to be a reason the 10-15 yd passes that Derek Thompson made against Kansas St weren't there. Could be Troy game planned for it and we didn't adjust. Could be Derek Thompson can't throw a deep ball without throwing it over some mountains. Could be Derek is one dimensional. Could be we need running backs involved in a passing game. But, I saw Brelan and Ivan both catch 10-15 yd passes tonight and they worked for good yardage. We have to get out of the mode of Brelan being half of our offense for this thing to work. He can't do it alone.3 points

Only bob can claim the end of the world is upon us () and in his next post complain about a Sun Belt HC's salary. Regretting "hoping we get this FB season in", eh? All we need now is for CaliMeanGreen to show up. Kudos, thread.3 points

I don't think play calling was the problem , it was execution. We would have put 35 points if passes were on target tonight. Players were open on several occasions only to be overthrown or not hit in stride3 points

Defense plays their asses off and now after all the hubbub of a great start, we look at the W/L column and we are still 1-3... Anyone want to go start warming up the basketball forum?3 points

He really did look awful tonight. I really don't understand it at all. I can't put myself 100% behind him, but I can't put myself behind benching him either. Week 1 at LSU, the stats don't look good for the most part, but he seemed poised, prepared, and unfazed. He played pretty well considering the talent differential of the 2 teams and the hostile environment. Week 2 he looked like shit, let's all be honest about that. Last week he was very good, I wouldn't say great despite the 25-28, and that's because most of the passes were short, quick, and easy. But, he didn't make stupid mistakes, he was poised, he was a great game manager, etc. etc. This week, back to awful. I honestly don't get it. Seriously, how can the same player complete 25 of 28 passes on the road against a top 15 team, and then have a completion percentage under 50% (and looking awful while earning that percentage) at home against an average Sun Belt team? It just doesn't make any sense to me. He's the epitome of inconsistency at the QB position. He's looked so damn good at times. And tonight (among many other nights), he looked just plain awful. Hopefully, after next season, we'll have someone legitimately good enough to compete in C USA ready to step in behind Thompson (there isn't any chance outside of injury or continuing epic suckage that he doesn't win the job next year as a 3rd year starting senior), or we'll be in trouble for a few more years until we find someone who can handle the job. Right now, there isn't much. We all know Thompson is the best we have now, and benching him this soon would be really stupid, especially given his performance last week, but we will go only as far as Thompson will take us, which we knew before the season.3 points

Special teams and offense were horrendous. Thankfully it looks like we have a solid defense and that kept us in it to the last second.3 points

I've always thought one of the hardest leaps in football is to go from a team hovering around the .500 mark to a contender. Will things improve before the season ends? Perhaps and I definitely hope so. However, if this team takes a step back this year, it's going to be difficult going into Conference USA where the competition gets tougher. On the other hand, if the Mean Green put this debacle behind them and finish up strong, then I'd say the future for next year looks bright.2 points

I think watching that red zone debacle where we were at Troy's 13, called an unnecessary TO, immediately followed that with a delay of game penalty, and finished up by going for it on 4th and 11 . . . might have had something to do with it.2 points

My thing is put the best product on the field you have athletes like jimmerson, Harris and the freshman kicker that can contribute more. Why aren't they given the opportunity. Put the best product on the field, this isn't high school where upper classmen take priority. Whenever you have an offense that tries 3 flea flicker plays in a game that's desperation. There has to be some changes in personnel. You can't do any worse. #23 on defense. The DB was getting beat all night and he was already 10 yards off the receiver, you can't tell me he's the best you have. If your QB arm isn't that good stick to 3 step drop and short throws. Play to your players strengths and stop playing like Lance is still here. Running the ball all the time. Get the ball out of DT hands quicker by calling for short precise throws instead of deep balls or situations that cause him to think a lot.2 points

I think McCarney does a lot more than some of y'all think. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that we went from having one of the most versatile offenses in college football, in terms of play calling, to one of the most predictable, even though the OC never changed.2 points

If you didn't notice a large percentage of students didn't stay around to see NT lose. Unlike the TSU game were most stayed to the end, it looked like about half were gone by the fourth quarter. I guess it supports the theory that the students don't care who the opponent is. as long as it is an easy victory.2 points

The only way I'll get myself pumped up for the tuesday game now is by getting completely loaded n the parking lot. Let's pray something magical happens to get things back on track.2 points

And I think it has to do with more than the fact that we lost. We gave this one away, and it was like we didn't even care. It's on the coaches and players now to renew interest by whupping the snot out of FAU and Houston before our big matchup with ULL.2 points

Maybe the team just cannot play at home. Their two worst games by far TSU and Troy. What up with McCarney after playing comparatively great against top 20 teams he does his losing is not acceptable spill and after a really horrible performance it is just one of those games. Is Troy really a better defensive team than KSU? All momentum is now lost. I admit I drank the green cold aid and thought this team had turned the corner. Troy is not a good team, maybe those coaches knew something when they selected NT as number eight in the conference.2 points

This is not the end of the world. Maybe for people who were expecting 8-10 wins, but the team isnt there yet. The depth isnt there and I believe like many year 3 is when DMac will take this team over the hump. My only reason for holding out on that, is because DT will still be at QB. The D played great and the fans showed up. Take it for what it is and move on. I for one still think this team will improve and that DMac is our guy.2 points

It was a bad game... Period. A lot of points left on the field. Sad to see some of you jump ship on the 1st conference loss. Beat FAU2 points

At some point in the not too distant future, if he does not get more consistent, then a change at quarterback needs to be made. Thompson is no longer the inexperienced freshman. He's a junior and if he cannot get the job done, then McCarney and Canales need to start considering the future.2 points

Because I know how long construction projects tend to be held up... I'd like to formally invite the boys to use the new court I just installed in my backyard for all their practice needs. Never let it again be said the Denia Folks don't support athletics.2 points
