So my entire time here at UNT, I've been to every home game, watched as many away as I could, have bewn happy to pedicab folks to Apogee, and my football appetite has been satiated. I grew up in a football-friendly environment; originally from the Atlanta, GA area, graduated high school with Ryan Mallett (yes, that Texas High School). All has been pretty cool thusfar. But something clicked this year. I wanted to support and cheer on in new ways: I created a meme-moniker for McCarney, joined this forum, and will be assisting the Alumni Pavillion in gamed at prep, etc. And to the soon-ire of my wife, I cannot meet this hunger to consume all information related to our football team. I'm google-news searching, researching highlight clips over an over, an this site is on an hourly refresh-click. Is this.... Is this what the elder-statesmen call... ....spirit??6 points

I'm sure LSU really hates playing in the Sugar Bowl because it's so close. Same with USC in the Rose. And forget when UCLA makes it to the RB and hosts the damn thing. They must curse the fact that they stay home.4 points

Late Monday TicketCity sent word: It’s no longer the title sponsor of the New Year’s bowl game played for the last two years at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park. The reason, per the release: The New Year’s game has a new owner, and the new owner has other plans. Or, as TicketCity CEO Randy Cohen put it, “We would have loved to continue as the title sponsor, but the new ownership group is going in a different direction without a corporate sponsor.” That’s not exactly true, The News has learned. Daniel Huerta, Fair Park’s executive general manager, confirms there is a new ownership group replacing Tom Starr’s Dallas Football Classic, which brought TicketCity on board two years ago. But Huerta won’t say who the new group is, only that it’s “a new nonprofit” based in Dallas. Says Huerta this morning, “We’ve been meeting with them for the last several months, and we’re confident the bowl game will be a success. They don’t have TicketCity as a sponsor, but they do have a pretty good sponsor.” He says an official announcement will be made October 4 at noon on the steps of the Cotton Bowl, at which time all our questions will be answered. But The News has learned the name of the new umbrella organization, Heart of Dallas, and the name of at least one of those involved, Britton Banowsky — who happens to be the longtime commissioner of Conference USA and whose office confirms his involvement, along with “a number of people here locally” who will also sit on the board. 1)As soon as this season is over they can go back to being the class of the Sun Belt. Congratulations. 2)There is a thread on their board where they take aim at their quarterback for saying he wishes Troy was headed to CUSA. Some actually try to argue that the Sun Belt is the better option. If they had to face a gun and lying resulted in death not ONE would speak such nonsense. I applaud their QB for having the courage to speak the truth. 3)I truly believe we are the best in the Belt. Yes, Troy played Miss State tough...what was MSU ranked again, I forget. We have played tough against two ranked teams and here is the kicker...we have a coach who will not ALLOW our players to have an emotional letdown. Mac will have that same intensity week in and week out. We will not be one of those Belt teams that shows promise in OOC only to return to "playing to the level of competition." ULM has us at their house...thrusts the only team I fear right now. And we will see Friday just how long they can keep up the intensity. 4)I expect a rockin' crowd Saturday. We WILL give them a reason to come back for more!!3 points

North Texas and UTA were neck and neck as far as enrollment is concerned back in 1985 when UTA dropped football (Their last game was at Fouts and i was in the stands). Since that time, the two schools have gone in opposite directions. North Texas has gone up and UTA has gone down. Colleges and universities get more exposure than some are willing to admit with athletics. Every newspaper in the nation has a sports page. No football means no coverage. Right or wrong, as Dr. Pohl used to say, athletics are the window into the University. Beat Troy Win the Sun Belt GO MEAN GREEN3 points

Baloney! A bowl is a bowl homie! I'm sure the guys wouldn't mind having a quasi-home game as a bowl. Plus, most Dallas-area kids would love to play in the Cotton Bowl, since unlike other stadiums around, I don't think they rent it out for UIL Playoffs.3 points

Well, it's all just got to be part of a large DFW anti UNT conspiracy. Otherwise, why even start threads about it? And is it possible that the threads themselves are hoaxes, planted by SMU fans, DFW mainstream media outlets, Denton establishment types, and anyone living in Denia Park who isn't named Pedro? Threads to make us take up time scrolling through "Vito doesn't love us enough" postings before actually getting to football talk. We can't really be sure until we PERSONALLY question those alleged to have started the "Vito" threads in the football forum at this most sacred football time of year. I mean, their accounts could have been hacked, and they're being blamed for this while they're actually vacationing in Aruba or some such place.3 points

Great Article in the new issue of the North Texan Alumi Magazine about last years soccer captain Kelsey Perlman. Really shows how a great university, university programs and UNT athletics can pave a way to success! Link: http://issuu.com/uni...thtexanfall2012 or http://northtexan.unt.edu/content/diplomacy-specialist Diplomacy Specialist The U.S. Embassy in Paris had the perfect job for Kelsey Perlman ('12). The embassy was looking for a French-speaking female athlete to serve as a sports diplomacy specialist — a job that required touring the country to promote gender equality and the benefits of sports for professional success. Perlman, who majored in international studies and French and served as captain of the Mean Green women's soccer team, heard about the job from Laetitia Knight, lecturer in world languages, literatures and cultures at UNT. "I'd like to say that I think this job was made for me," Perlman says. Besides playing soccer with various clubs, Perlman talks to boys and girls about the benefits of Title IX, the landmark bill that made discrimination illegal in education and federal programs; the U.S. collegiate athletics system; and how soccer is used as a form of social integration in tough neighborhoods. She also talks about qualities — like leadership, organization, mental toughness, assertiveness and perseverance — that she developed by playing sports. Perlman says the task can be challenging because there hasn't traditionally been strong support for women's sports in France, but she loves the job. "Seeing girls come up to me saying they were inches away from quitting sports but would continue thanks to my speech had a tremendous impact on me," she says. Perlman would like to play for a professional soccer team in France and continue the sports diplomacy program. She also plans to take the Foreign Service Exam, which would put her en route to becoming a diplomat. She notes that her athletic scholarship at UNT paved the way to her job because it allowed her to take unpaid internships with the International Rescue Committee, Office of Sustainability and the North Texas in D.C. Program, and study for a semester abroad at the University of Caen in France. "I would never be in the position I am now," she says, "if I didn't go to UNT."2 points

I think some of you are confusing the sports beat writer job with reporting on the Mid East crisis. Journalistic integrity is important, but the most critical part of being a beat writer is to cover the team well. Most long time beat writers do become fans of the teams they cover and I think it helps both in the ability to get information and the quality of the writing. Vito provides a lot of coverage but little information. It may be his personality but he comes across to me as very passionless. Some say that is what a responsible non bias sports writer should be, but I just think it is mostly boring. Vito and the Athletic department exist in a strange symbiotic relationship. Both depend on each other but neither like it and both have reasons to feel that way. Vito's works hard and provides as much as he can with the relationships he has with NT. The problem is that he is nether a hard nosed "tell it like it is reporter" or a fan of the program. He is not critical of anything other than a departed head football coach. He was far less candid when the coach was actually there. On the other side, he does not have the access that most beat reporters have, therefore inside information is scant.2 points

We would only host a FCS school like TSU this year, that doesn't receive a return game.2 points

Don't think I was the one that pointed it out. Think I just commented on it, much like you. I think it's funny how far the Vito defenders go to try to explain a gaff, and how far Vito's haters will go to jump on every little thing he writes.2 points

While I could see us hosting SFA or Sam Houston, would we ever really play them on the road? I wouldn't think so. Do FBS teams play at FCS stadiums very often?2 points

. LOL, thank you. Just so everybody knows, the wife and I weren't the only people who were walking down Willowwood towards Apogee for the TSU game, and there were two or three houses that were selling parking on their lawns. Looks like a few people in the park may be coming to their senses.2 points

I agree. I think we were even talking about this at the TSU game. Our backs are good as a unit and Jimmerson seems to be the best combo of power and shiftyness, but none seem to have great breakaway speed like Dunbar. We got spoiled.2 points
