  1. You know it's been a while since your program has won when you're bragging about whose loss was least-terrible.

  3. The players love these games. They get tested by the "best". How many O-lines can say they didn't give up a sack against BOTH Alabama and LSU? or a defense that has more sacks against these same two teams? That means something and the confidence carries through the entire season.

  4. I know Coach Mac was disappointed in not staying closer to LSU...so was I. But a few observations. One td that LSU made, there was a hold where on of LSU offensive players grabbed the back of one of our defenders who was in perfect position to make the tackle and because of the hold, was unable too. Then some key dropped passes that killed a drive. A call here and a catch there and this is a 14 pt game or better. The line had LSU winning by 43. And there "super boy" qb was in till the last 2 min. If we learn from this game and put together a game like we played in 3rd qtr,, I am ready to say 8-4....maybe 9-3. OK...maybe I am over optimistic, but I saw alot of good stuff last night. Saturday night we have to ROCK APOGEE!!! and TSU!!! 3 has to get the ball more often...on the post pattern, for 80 yd td, he was running away from LSU defenders. I LOVE THE SMASH MOUTH OFFENSE!!!

  10. No, it's a former athlete who accepted a scholarship to attend UNT. Alumni from UNT helped provide that scholarship. And now, the former athlete turns around and roots for a school he has no affiliation with while that school is playing his Alma Mater, a place that gave him the tools to succeed in life, and whose alumni provided him the access to those tools at no charge. LSU playing anyone else? Fine, d-bag it up as much as you want. LSU playing the place where you received a free education and you root for LSU? Pretty F'n sorry. This is just a symptom of the apathy that has made UNT the red headed step child of metroplex college sports. This kinda crap needs to stop. Josh needs to understand publicly rooting against his alma mater is not acceptable. Josh is still young. Hopefully he realizes this was a bad mistake on his part.

  11. High school football roundup: Leander beats Connally 35-7 Ashley Landis/AMERICAN-STATESMAN Enlarge PhotoConnally's Leo Dawson (1) outruns Leander's Leo Quintana (25) in a high school football opener Friday night at Connally. Quarterback Caleb Woodward led the Lions to a 35-7 win. Photos: Connally vs. Leander, 08.31.12 Small TypeQuarterback Caleb Woodward rushed for 152 yards and three scores and also threw a 46-yard touchdown pass as visiting Leander dominated Connally 35-7 Friday night in a season opener. After punting on its opening possession, Leander — the seventh-ranked team in the AP preseason Class 4A poll — piled up consecutive touchdown drives of 80, 35, 36 and 46 yards in the first half, helped by Connally turnovers. After the fast-paced first half, both teams' offensive units struggled on third down in the second, and the only scoring play came on a 2-yard dive by Woodward with 5:14 to play. Connally's LaDaedrix Payton rushed for a team-high 88 yards while quarterback Dajon Williams completed 18 of 29 passes for 156 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

  12. Absolutely not. Some of the reactions are ridiculous,IMO. He signed with NT, chose to use his eligibility here, and played his ass off for JJ. That's more than most people do & more than what we could ask for.

  14. If we continue in the direction that I hope we are heading, we won't be such an attractive opponent soon. We need to charge more. $2 million to play a game with LSU or OU or similar. We get a huge payday or we schedule a Division 1-AA ( I know) school to open with. NT gets a win, the new students start their college career expecting a win and the fans get 6 or 7 home games. 15. Here's the real question: Will fans be in meltdown mode if we lose to Houston? I don't know how good TSU is but a loss like this will either break your team or make it much stronger. I hope we don't run in to a pissed off Houston team that's gained momentum a couple weeks from now and lose the game by a big margin. The sun belters would have a field day with that one.

  16. Get the weakest FBS school we can find. Win big and gain a little swagger. Make it to a bowl and get the students excited. It also helps our case when recruits see an easy win in front of an excited crowd.

  20. I respectfully disagree. What you're suggesting puts all the pressure on the coaching staff and players. That's very unrealistic. What I've been making reference to is the school officials (and loyal and dedicated alumni volunteers) who are in charge of establishing a real game day atmosphere with lots of real college pageantry and school traditions. Winning only enhances it.....but it has to exist in the first place. Students and fans come to the game to watch their team win. But what keeps them coming back (especially in lean times) is their participation in, and being part of (or feeling that they are a real part of), the total game day experience. During the decade of my High School attendance (60's) the butt of everyone's football jokes was Texas A&M. Their 60's record was this.. 1960--1-6-3 1961--4-5-1 1962--3-7 1963--2-7-1 1964--1-9 1965--3-7 1966--4-5-1 1967--7-4 1968--3-7 1969--3-7 They were a JOKE! Yet you wouldn't find a school with more loyal fans. One of the main reasons was that the students and fans were made to feel like they were a real part of the A&M game day traditions......which they consistently adhered to......even in very tough times.

  21. We don't need to schedule these games. We should replace these Body Bag Games with another regional series like Colorado State or New Mexico State.

  25. I think Jimmerson was on a short leash too. But, I think he was the best of the RBs. He and Byrd run with some power, but Jimmerson seems to have more of a burst. Mac was really hacked off at Brown when he fumbled the ball. I don't think he had the better game.

  29. Well I unfollowed Josh from my Twitter acount. I don't want to read that crap from fellow alumni. The first tweet was bad enough but him sending out another tweet during the game celebrating a LSU touchdown against his school is what pushed me over the edge.

  30. As far back as I could find, FWIW. I thought this was a pretty interesting stat to look at. BTW I don't mention him below, but Chanceller has been big in one way or another in almost all of our big games. He got 2 TDs against LSU. 36. 21-3 Baylor with 2:03 to go first half. 1)This color guy must be from the SMU SID office 2)Nick Florence looks real good for Baylor...Gilbert not so much. When Baylor plays a real team I'll be able to judge how good they may still be. Gilbert was frozen out at UT for a reason 3)Ponyfans.com is in meltdown mode. http://ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62184&start=195

  37. I just can not agree with you on DT not being an effective leader of the offense just because of a tough game against LSU. If he looks like this next week then, yeah you might be on to something, but withstand your judgement on the kid, who is a proven leader, for a few weeks.

  38. We had several first down passes dropped that hit people in the hands that a Marcus Camper, Johnny Quinn or Casey Fitzgerald catches to extend drives. Those plays have to be made in order to give us a chance. When you play these type of games someone has to step up and go after the ball like their life depends on it. In too many critical situations, many that Harry has pointed out, we had 10 guys doing their job and one not. I thought Thompson showed some really good poise at times holding the ball to give time for receiver separation and delivered the ball while taking a hit. The line, bless their hearts, played their asses off against a machine in order to give him that time only for the ball to bounce off someone's hands. You can't have that. Rick
