Guys We just wanted to clear up a little misinformation about an Iowa WR transfer and a quote from Coach McCarney. “He is doing a real good job for us,” McCarney said. “He will be on the plane with us to LSU. He won’t start, but he will play in that first game. He has earned it. There is no question he gives us some depth. I like him a lot.” The quote was in reference to Darnell Smith, the Ellsworth Community College transfer, which is in Iowa, not to anybody else. Smith is the only wide receiver currently on the North Texas roster from Iowa, via Garland, Texas. The information about any other names and potential playing time was erroneously reported. Again, we just wanted to clear up any confusion about who Coach McCarney was referencing and make sure there isn’t anything floating around out there that isn’t factually accurate or give fans the impression that something has happened in reference to other names and schools.6 points

Point guards: CJ is solid on all levels.. He can do it all plain and simple.. PJ is a facilitator .. Unreal ball handler with average shot, a better version of TNo.. Shooting guards- Alzee- shut down defender has been shooting lights out .. TJ- salty lefty that is crafty and can score from perimeter Brandon- Have not seen much of him at REC lately.. Overlander - knock down shooter with a lot better defensive skills than many will think.. SF - Jwill - most improved, dunking constantly and shooting leaps and bounds above what he was at this point last yr - Holmen- very rarely see him there but his beard is sexy (no homo) JP - great rebounder, long and athletic PF - Niko - just being Niko - roger - working his tail off, treats every possession like its his last - Tony- no words describe the talent, his shot looks quicker and more pure.. Defensive wise there is no one close, his ball handling has improved and his passing has been beautiful C - Keith Co - great surprise! Physical and can get up, blocks shots and rebounds, can't shoot but loves to run the floor and loves to dunk! He will be solid! PS- play of the yr occurred yesterday when tony received a mid court pass from PJ and ally oop windmilled on a poor soul.. So dirty , play stopped for 10 plus minutes.. PPS- Ike diogu was there yesterday with a coach who is helping out named coach Allen (they played together at ASU) keith and tony played very well against him and didn't back down at all.. That's against a guy who poured in 20+ against team USA for Nigeria.. All together team looks great! Great chemistry and all of them rave about Benford and how close they are getting to him.. Well that's all .. Gmg5 points

I think most of the Texas Southern fans attended college. LSU fans attended a game or at least watched one on TV.4 points

After reading the LSU fan boards, I now know how TSU fans must feel reading our boards4 points

Gee, where to start? -Starting a season, at home, with the momentum of a win hasn't happened in a long time. -Beginning each season with your teeth kicked in gets old real quick. -TSU is unattractive enough. Coming into that game with all of our "warts" still unknown (secondary, pass rush, do we have go-to back?) will do lots to sell people on at least giving us a peek. LSU will tell us NOTHING about our question marks, because it will all look like weaknesses. -We are deluded if we think bad weather will "equalize" this game. What it will do is galvanized their team, their fans and their region because they (no pun) weathered the storm. I could go on...travel plans that have been thrown into disarray, hotels that are by now overbooked, etc.4 points

Dunbar and Tanner both probably ought to be there. If the Cowboys really want Felix on the team, they should just have him eat a sandwich and be a backup guard.3 points

Lance was named "Player of the Game".... ... sort of hard to cut the player of the game. ... 105 yards .. a 50 yd TD....... He looked extremely good at breaking tackles. Jamize had 53.. both averaged 7 yds per carry. They cut the team down on Friday.3 points

Being petty, I go for CUSA over the Belt; tired of reading angry Belt fans of remaining schools trash NT. Will support the Belt above other conferences than CUSA, but really although I understand the sentiments I would like for NT to really demonstrate to the rest of the Belt what a good program they are losing in NT. Losing NT is no big loss and TSSM will be a much better program are stupid statements on the surface and will still be uttered no matter how NT does this year; but it would feel great for NT to have a stellar last year.2 points

Thats' ok - at least we got a clarification. We were told, what, a year or two ago that this person existed and that he/she would be on the GMG.com board when necessary to provide clarifications or to point out misinformation. I am glad to see this person is still around; I had wondered if this position was eliminated since that announcement - This is the first time I remember any such posting from this person since that announcement. Perhaps he/she will be more active in the future in terms of clarifications and correcting misinformation.2 points

I have had many discussions/arguments with people about Lance making the team. If he doesn't make the 53 man then I have a lot of crow to eat. When he does then many foks owe me a "you were right".2 points

I'm sure the income from that game was budgeted for something. At this point, canceling the game would hurt our program somewhere and something would have to be given up, unless there is some sort of insurance situation in play.2 points

I think we play it one way or another on Sat-Mon in BR, in Houston, or in Denton; in that order. I suspect they don't want to be caught without that extra "win" when it comes down to national championship time, so I doubt that the game will be cancelled. Doesn't look like any reasonable way to make it up later, since the SEC Championship game is scheduled for December 1st.2 points

Well, this is really just a sidebar to the Lance Dunbar story, but it is interesting to note that he may have had the biggest night of his young life seven years (to the day?) after the Levee failures in the wake of Katrina made his family find a new home in Texas.2 points

I heard he quit football to pursue his dream of cooking for a living. Apparently the LSU game conflicted with auditions for Iron Chelf.2 points

+5 to you. I just can't let little smartass quips go unnoticed. Again, it's the fact that I'm so in to this program that it pains me to see people so down on it.2 points

My wife and I watched the show on Tuesday evening and thought it was really well done. It was an hour show with over half of it coming from Apogee stadium. The UNT portion was hosted by Gina Miller. She wore a bright green blouse and later chastized the studio guys for not wearing their green ties. She was seated in a director's chair on the playing field with the scoreboard in the background. The scoreboard had The Fan logo on it. She interviewed Coach Mac, Rick V, and two players - Derek Thompson and Brandon McCoy. Coach Mac was his usual upbeat self and emphasized the progress that has been made in the short time that he has been there and the amount of progress that still needs to be made to get to where the program wants to go. Rick talked about the Mean Green Villiage and all the facilities that have been built in a fairly short period of time. The players were very well spoken with "Yes, ma'am" and "No, ma'am" coming very naturally from them. Brandon talked some about his time in the Army in Iraq and how fortunate he was to have not been killed when a mortar round exploded near him. Derek mentioned that he had already received his degree from North Texas and was in graduate school now. Both players spoke about how their experiences last year made them better players and that they were looking forward to this season. They were great representatives for the athletic department and for the university. The show repeatedly had film clips from the Houston game and the Indiana game. Ms. Miller constantly referenced how nice Apogee stadium was and how neat it was that the scoreboard had their Fan logo on it. All in all it was a very well produced program. I plan to send a note of Thanks for both Channel 21 for their coverage and to the folks in the UNT athletic department for their part in making it happen. It was great publicity for us.2 points

If our DB's give up a lot of catches in this game, I won't cry too much if they can at least show that they can wrap up and tackle. That OU video reminded me of probably the worst exhibition of bad tackling from our DB's that I have ever seen. I'm confident that our new DC has made some improvements in that area.1 point

I believe in all the players we have until they prove me otherwise. I am looking forward to see what improvements we have made since last year. I hope the players play with the same level of confidence I have in them. Being a good football team has alot to do with confidence.1 point

Rudy's BBQ in Allen: Kickoff is at 6pm on September 1st to watch our beloved Mean Green take down the #1 LSU Tigers. Rudy's will have drink specials for North Texas fans. We will have door prizes, courtesy of the UNT Alumni Association. This year I'll be bringing a PA system to the Allen watching parties so we can still hear the game over the cheering. Rudy's is located on the east side of Central Expressway, just south of Stacy Rd in the Villages of Allen. It's next to Cabelas. SO WHO'S COMING TO RUDY'S???1 point
