  3. I saw this picture posted in the Gallery Images at the top of the Forum section. It is listed as a crowd shot from a North Texas football game in 1998. What's amazing is how little green North Texas gear is worn by fans as compared to recent seasons. School spirit just wasn't what it is today as the few North Texas shirts visible are being worn by the soccer team. Thank You to Rick Villarreal and your staff. ps - I was on the other side of the stadium, and wearing green of course, but that won't stop that OSFA blond in light purple from spending cyber-eternity searching this crowd for me.

  5. Agree on the 5 million. Don't know about the "after baseball", though. Getting this built would be the final touch on all the existing programs and allow total focus to be placed on building a baseball program and stadium, which would require a whole lot more than 5 mil.

  7. Folks...this is something we can ALL do to help out a member of the great Mean Green Nation. Even a very small donation would help a great deal. Not only will it help from the financial standpoint, but it will help emotionally and spiritually as as well. Positive attitudes and knowing that people you don't even know are pulling for you DOES HELP! I firmly believe that, so...if you can...take a look and help Brian out. I have absolutely no clue who GreenP1 is, nor do I know Brian...but I know they are members of the Mean Green Nation, I know Brian has a great friend in GreenP1, I know Brian needs some help, I know if I help with something it will make a difference...that's pretty much all I need to know. How about you? GO get 'em Brian....thanks to GreenP1 for bringing this to our attention.

  18. Frogs, locusts, fire, and brimstone seem a little outdated.......maybe some divine being is using tropical storms to tell LSU to move these games to North Texas. There may be no electricity in Baton Rouge this weekend and the city may be in full recovery mode. Should this week's game be moved to North Texas if it cannot be played in Baton Rouge and another suitable weekend cannot be scheduled?

  20. I apologize if these were posted before. I don't recall seeing them. These are some behind the scenes videos shot during Chico's watch after Todd Dodge was invited to seek success elsewhere. They include some players that are still on the team. Enjoy!

  22. ...former 3-star DB from Coppell transfers to UTSA, where his brother is also playing: http://www.goutsa.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205668708&DB_OEM_ID=13100 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/okotcha_bennett00.html Don't sleep on Larry Coker...and UTSA. I know some of you are still sleeping on them. The guy can coach, and UTSA is giving him the tools he needs to succeed. I hope this UTSA thing turns into a rivalry whenever we both join C-USA next year.

  26. Hopefully this thread doesn't turn into a donation level pissin match but I think an indoor practice facility should be high on the list and would be a nice edition to The Mean Green Village.

  28. If that is a crowd shot from 1998 then I'm impressed. First, we didn't wear green in that era. We wore white. All of the shirts given by the Mean Green Club were white. Second, we just three years removed from 12 years of purgatory in 1-AA where we had lost 90% of our fan base. Third, the three years prior in 1-A produced a whopping 11-22 record. Fourth, everyone complained about how the Big West was such a terrible conference with no one near us. And, fifth, we were still in Fouts. The most important fact was that the attendance looked pretty good. I'd much rather have fans who are not in the proper attire but who still choose to attend over a handfull of green-clad supporters. Of course, I'd much rather have those attending be in green but given the choice of 31,000 watching the Mean Green in anything other than other school's jerseys vs. 20,000 in school colors I'll take the full stadium every time. I believe that we're building it's just that it isn't moving fast enough.

  29. Let's spread some of that credit around. The committee Rick put together raised that money, not RV. But, RV should absolutely be credited with putting the right people in place who got the job done with amazing speed. Certainly an eye opener and hopefully can translate to success on future projects.

  33. It is always interesting the first 2 weeks of high school to see where kids will transfer to. Pending a final ruling on Deion Sanders' Prime Prep Academy for varsity play in 2012-2013, it appears that Shirmaine will end up there for his senior season. Obviously the mentality of kids today is to join other talented players to form a super team. Well, not only is Thomas rumored at Prime Academy but Karvier Shepherd, Jordan Mickey and Emanuel Mudiey of Arlington Grace Prep in hoops. Though the football team only has about 30 on the roster, Deion is loading up with kids from all over the metroplex. Should be interesting to follow this school over the next few years as Deion has stated that sports will be a main focus. http://www.primeprepacademy.org/index.php/campuses/athletics

  36. Listening to the radio it sounds like Dunbar is looking good, however it seems there's some sort of penalty everytime he gets the ball. Somehow McGee can make everybody around him look horrible.

  37. Why is McGee still on this team? He is horrible. GO LANCE!

  39. Note that Rick raised $2.5 million in 30 days to build a dedicated basketball facility. I don't think we raised $5 million in 7 years for new football stadium. Winning may not cure all, but it sure helps.

  40. Guess I should update this thread more than once every couple months... However many football games I make it to this season, they'll be the first I've been to without Brian since 04-05. Still holding out hope for some Super Pit action though... Brian's made incredible strides in the past couple months with still a long ways to go. Being a non-insured charity case, I think the Hospital released him a couple weeks before he was really strong enough, but he's steadily getting there. Almost 3 months in a hospital bed (not to mention 6 invasive brain surgeries) will apparently zap you of all your strength. He's finally to the point where he can get up and walk around (unassisted but usually with a walker) but her tires out quickly. The biggest hurdle now is short term memory and other cognitive issues. His long term memory is amazing, probably better than mine, but the short just isn't there yet. We were all getting a little worried with the lack more drastic improvement, but after his first CT scan in weeks and weeks (cost prohibitive) we were given great news! The tumor is DEAD. What none of us realized is that they don't always shrink while they're dying... So now its basically a racquetball sized cyst sitting in there, not growing, but still putting pressure on important areas of the brain. All indications are that it should begin to shrink and be absorbed once he begins chemo! Then the real improvement can begin. Their debt continues to grow by the day, and I could give you some real horror stories from their interactions with Denton's local hospitals, but I've already typed about twice as much as I like. If you'd like any more information, the website in the first post of the thread has been updated as recently as a couple days ago. Thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers, and donations.

  46. I don't disagree with anyone who feels that this should not have happened. I also agree that the coaching staff should have done everything possible to make room for kids; taking their talents to south beach or to the Denia neighborhood of Denton County. Benford nor RV should be blamed for this as it is a reality of competing in a very competitive big business. Trey was recruited to South Dakota out of S. Grand Prairie High. In hindsight, he may have signed there originally for greater playing time. Sometimes circumstances helps make the right decision for us. http://rivals.yahoo....y-Norris-107260 I actually attribute some of the blame on the kid themselves. Equally, their parents, high school and AAU coaches and so called friends for the environment today where kids oversign annually. Not much thought, at times, goes in to what is the best fit but rather feeding the ego and signing with the highest profile school available. Last time I checked, there were over 700 + basketball transfers in D1 hoops. (Avg of almost 2 per team) Parents and kids need to understand that coaches are in the sales business during the recruiting process. They tell recruits and family what they want to hear. AAU & HS coaches can boast that they got their kid a top level scholarship, in hopes of landing other star athletes to their school/program. Trey was recruited to UNT as a reserve on a moderately successful Sunbelt team. The stakes are higher. A question I would have asked during the recruiting process is whether or not you (coach) will be around for 4 years? If you leave, can I get some assurances that my scholarship will be protected; provided that I uphold my end of the bargain. (watch heads drop) Tony Benford was a highly successful assistant coach/recruiter at a top 10 program. Did he make Marquette successful or was his success a result of Marquette basketball? We're taking a chance on a brand new coach with a 5 year guaranteed contract at a record level. The pressure is turned up for the new coach and the guy who hired him (RV) to elevate an already rising program. Keep in mind that we just fired the women's coach and had her replacement walk on us to a perceived better program after one year. The AD has to provide his new hire with the best opportunity to succeed. TJ Taylor, the 7th ranked senior in Texas in the class of 2010, was attracted to Marquette because of Tony Benford. If the coach felt that Taylor could help a top 10 program, why wouldn't he make room at UNT? I was able to attend a few of Trey's HS games once he commited to UNT. I've spoke with his mom in the stands at SGP and UNT games. Spoke briefly with Trey once at the IAD in Carrollton. I found him to be a very likeable and polite kid. (Away from twitter) I certainly understand the sentiment expressed here and concur with that the timing may not have been the best. I do think that things have worked out. The TJ signing was the exception and not the rule. We live vicariously through our sports teams and athletes as our sense of recreation, entertainment and enjoyment. Fielding a successful CUSA program is big business for both Benford and RV. I would give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

  48. And you have no idea what happened, how it was handled, or whether or not it was Benford that found a spot for Trey at USD. I guess we could go back to 5-25 records, right? As for the bold: Much like Odoh did to UNT this last class. Things happen.
