  1. just received an email announcing that on Aug 27 the AD will be having a "student spirit night". Students are invited to Apogee to sample FREE food from about ten different Denton restaurants, meet with players and even get a chance to field punts from our kickers and catch passes from our QB's (I think we're just trying to supplement our walk-on program...I kid, I think). Another "out of the box" idea and I got give kudos where warranted.

  7. The USADA had shown amazing, uncompromising perseverance over a period of years, in the face of little to no evidence save the testimony of others who plea bargained. They refused to rest until successfully obliterating the legacy of their target. I can think of a few individuals/entities I'd like an organization like that to take a little gander at next.

  10. So then do you just feel that every elite athlete is in some way artificially enhanced? What a horribly pessimistic and dis-illusioned outlook you have on life...I feel quite sorry for you. In you mind, apparently, Usain Bolt is a doper because Jamaica doesn't follow him around, go through his trash and make him pee in a cup on his way to his morning coffee, a dinner date or 2 minutes after someone made him pee in a cup...all the tests done by the IOC and whatever track and field's governing body may be aren't enough, right? Let's just ignore that a 6'5" dude has quick twitch muscles normally not seen in someone his size. Lance Armstrong has for the past decade basically had to make sure he's well-hydrated 24/7 in case some dude insisted he join him in the nearest men's room stall to fill up a cup. And every time it's come up clean. Some how to you that means he's just cheating better...not that he might just have a freak's lung capacity and, oh...the motivation of realizing that fighting through cancer and having a ball lopped off is a whole hell of a lot tougher than winning a stupid bike race? You'd believe the testimony of those already caught or those who don't want their names tarnished the same way Lance's has over science? Sad, man. You probably shouldn't even watch sports any more.

  11. Pretty much every student does it. IMO, complaining about this is just as stupid as complaining about only using 3 fingers in the talon hand signal. I mean who gives a crap?!? No one I've talked to outside of UNT has ever been like, "Ha! Idiot, don't you know eagles have 4 talons?" or..."Why do y'all say caaaw or caacaaaw? That's a crow. An eagle is more a high pitched scream." And you know why? Because its a moronic argument over things no one notices or cares about...except us

  16. Interesting little stat in today's Wall Street Journal on Page. D9: 11% "The increase in prospective students forwarding SAT scores for admissions consideration to a given school in the year after it wins a major-college football championship". SOURCE: Jaren C. Pope, Brigham Young University and Devin G. Pope, University of Chicago. OK, think admissions folks at major universities have an interest in how well their football teams do? For those in lala land who hold the opinion that athletics does not help a university overall i would ask them to study the above for just one...of many...reasons why they should support their school's athletic programs. Thought it was an interesting stat...would a CUSA title count? I would argue that YES it would!

  18. North Texas (2-0-0) @ Sam Houston State (1-1-0) 7:00pm - Hunstville, TX Hopefully some of our Houston area alumni decide to make the short trip up to support the ladies. SHSU so far this year has a 1-0 win over Prairie View A&M, and a 1-0 loss to Texas State. NT beat SHSU 3-1 at home last year, but fell 1-0 in OT the year before in a game that was an absolute downpour for the full 90 minutes and more. If the ladies can take care of business, they will be undefeated heading into the home opener against UH on Sunday. Go Mean Green!

  25. It's a witch hunt. Plain and simple. You can say that his stopping to fight these charges is an admission of guilt, but with everything he's done, how many tests he's had to undergo, I'd be tired of it too. He's got a wife and five kids and probably doesnt want to spend his entire life peeing in a cup at every function he goes to. He had a 32-34 resting heart rate and a 201 bpm. That's unheard of. He trained crazy hard, and deserved it. Yeah he's a douche, but he worked his ass off- no different than Bolt, Jordan, or other legendary athletes. By the way, lets remember who is on this witch hunt- the IOC and USADA, two of the most corrupt international organizations around. Other than the UN.

  27. Well Mark, since you chose to make my concern into some type of political statement, and in a public forum, I will bore everyone with my reply sent to you via email. I am a bit disappointed that you chose to make this statement in this forum, but such is what is. Folks, here is my reply to Mark:

  29. Make sure you get them for seats at the Super Pit...OK, sorry...almost any seat in the lower bowl is a good seat. The press area side is usually filled with alums and long time season ticket holders...always a good area...just check out where you want and go for them....really, I've had season tickets in 4 different locations...the thing you want to decide is do you like "up close and personal" or a little further back. me, I like a tad further back up the lower bowl area...but, that's my preference....lots of available seating (that's a problem you are helping to fix) so you should be fine. Thanks for buying season tickets. You will be happy you did!

  30. It seems to me that this initiative, and several others that have been developed by the UNT Department of Athletics, should quieten an AD critic or two on this board, and beyond. It is sooooo easy to sit behind a keyboard, point fingers, and criticize what the AD is doing without any real knowledge of what is being created, or the complexity involved in creating these initiatives. There are more initiatives to come - and there will be overwhelming approval of these among the Mean Green Nation. But having said that - and this will allow you to point a finger at me - it does concern me a bit that the AD official announcement for this event, that I received via email, does not mention that ID's are required by the students to attend this event. Without that requirement this event could easily get out-of-hand. I am sure the AD has considered this and made provisions - but not requiring ID's (or stating that ID's are required in the official announcement) does cause me some concern. As Stormchaser says, offer free food and THEY will come. It seems to me that there are a lot of "they's" out there that we really should not encourage to attend this event. GMG

  32. I also remembered from the podcast that the engineers are basically looking for 2 things. 1. Can the current structure support a center hung video board 2. If not, would it be feasible to put in additional supports While they are at it up there, if they can slap on some green paint on the Super Pit roof then that would be amazing. If not, drawing 10,000 wieners would look better then the ugly brown roof. If your kid asks what they are, its the original flying worm logo You would think with all the art students we have, we could strap up the hipsters to cranes and give them a couple paint brushes.

  34. Absolutely, there isnt one NFL team that wouldnt want him as a coach... Honestly, I think it might help him even more.. Hell be able to watch more film and develop a better game plan for the future.. Who doesnt make mistakes, its how you learn for them is what makes you better

  35. I think he was already pretty tarnished in the public perception. If he really didn't take those things then he would have fought til the day he died because that is/was practically his whole legacy. It was a really great story too but there is no doubt that cycling is probably the dirtiest sport of all when it comes to this stuff.

  40. My first thought was excitement, my second thought was apprehension, my third thought was deciding to go, my fourth thought occurred after I saw that there was free food, and it was pure unadulterated joy. I would have absolutely been there regardless, but offering free food to students will seal the deal for most of them. Great idea overall and great idea to give out food.
