Yes, and we need to get rid of those pesky students who believe in God, also. They may even have beliefes that gay marriage is wrong and support organizations that believe the same way! They don't think like us, so let's bar them from having a voice, right? Think like me, or else, right?4 points

I really didn't feel like wasting time with this, since your "analogy" is not remotely analogous to what I was talking about. The point is, if we have 5 lights-out killer games scheduled at home--one ACC and four Big XII--I'm not going to be upset if our 6th game is a warmup. As long as that 6th game can be used toward bowl eligibility. But when we have only 5 games at home, none of them better than mediocre to your casual fan, with the South Alabama game being another big yawner--I am somewhat less thrilled with scheduling Texas Southern.4 points

This years team is on a whole new level of athletism compared to his past teams. He said that they had 2 games Friday and Saturday where you can see them. He's looking forward to getting through the preseason & into the league. UNT should be the choice in the West. Muts & wku look good in the east. They both come here to play this year.3 points

We lost Lance Dunbar to the Dallas Cowboys and have a legitimate chance of going 0-12 this year. KSU should consider this game a "warm-up" game and nothing more. There's no reason why they should look forward to the game against UNT when they have Oklahoma, IN NORMAN, the very next week. It would be best to go ahead and just dedicate 2 weeks to studying and game-planning for OU. You guys were on the cusp last year! Don't let OU hold you down this year. Please pass this credible, insider-information along to the coaches/players.3 points

Okay, yes, I realize we're not talking in terms of present UNT reality. But remember, all this was prompted by KRAM1's gleeful comment: If we were in TCU's shoes in terms of schedule (not to mention everything else), I really think we would be okay with one of six home games being a SWAC team. And, believe it or not, it's not that big of a deal to me personally anyway. I'm a Mean Green junkie, and will hang on what happens every single play, even if we're up 30 or more. But there is a limited number of Mean Green junkies out there; and for the good of building interest, home schedules such as this year's have to stop.3 points

I don't like it either, but college is supposed to prepare you for real life and this kind of stuff happens all the time. Life isn't always fair and that is what makes people work harder.3 points

Did they start at 6:30PM last year or have they moved them back a half hour? Just trying to recall...glad to see the schedule out again and love that they are returning to Rudy's...a supporter of UNT and the Mean Green! Will the first one on the 27th be in the Club Area or Concourse area? Anyone know as yet? Seems like it's shaping up to be a good initial show.... EDIT: SERIOUSLY? What?3 points

For the record, I gave less because I could. It makes much more sense for me to put extra to pay off my house than it does to give extra right now. I feel no shame in taking advantage of a program that is extended to all grads for 5 yrs post graduation. If any of you don't like it then feel free to pay my mortgage for me and I will give more. I go to games, events, I give, Ipurchase bricks, coins, merchandise, and participate anywhere I can. I play chief recruiter at my office, and brings people to games with me. Giving $10,000 and bitching non-stop doesn't help the program as much as giving $100 and being a public champion for the MEAN GREEN! Some of you guys have piss poor attitudes about everyting. If you are saying "is this dude talking to me?" then YES I'm talking to you. GMG3 points

Hello friends. Just wanted to express my excitement for our game this fall in Manhattan, Kansas! I hope that some of you fine folks will make the journey to the "Little Apple" to watch the ballgame. It should be quite the entertaining game. If you'd like afterwards we can all get shitty drunk at my place, where you can crash.2 points

You know...this would be slightly acceptable for an out of state school that has no clue but........this is a pretty stupid screwup on their part. Obviously, no big deal, but I'd like to beat them by 90 now just to spite their idiocy.2 points

My brother owns the site and store nicekicks.com, I know way more about sneakers than I would ever care to. If you adjust Nikes for inflation from the 80s and 90s you'll get to prices way more than $300. Penny Hardaway sneakers were $190 IIRC in the mid 90s.2 points

I think our issue has been that we have been underfunded with a crappy stadium in the past, yet RV still got us games with TCU, SMU, Navy, KSU, etc... in Fouts. I think a little patience is to be expected. The opening of Apogee, joining CUSA, increased budget, etc... should bring better teams to Denton in the next few years.2 points

ULM gets Baylor at home this year OOC and that's it, and last year they got Grambling St. Last year we had Houston and Indiana and this year we get TSU. Is there really any difference? When you are signing 2 for 1's it catches up to you period. Besides, as adman posted, TCU starts the year almost every year with a team from a small conference. It helps you get your feet wet and come out of the game with a win.2 points

You know I understand exactly where you're coming from on this, but I'm gonna give Benford the benefit of the doubt on number one before I start thinking he does everything direct from the book of Buzz Williams. JJ likely had very similar "you're not in my plans" conversations (Harold Edwards, Jonathon Jackson...maybe even Knoxxy) to the one Benford likely had with Norris.2 points

Contrary to the blatant stupidity broadcast daily in the news, mosquitoes very seldom grow in places where there are fish, especially the guppy 'minnows', which are descendants from fish imported from Central America a century ago for this very reason. These guppies efficiently eradicate any mosquito larva population to which they have access. Mosquito larva grow in small places where water accumulates and fish cannot reach; discarded cups and other trash, housing roof gutters, puddles in drain pipes etc, and even in untended pools. Yet, every night the news continues to show pictures of flowing streams and duck ponds as 'prime breeding grounds' to target for poisoning. Kill the guppies in those waters and then you really will have a serious mosquito problem.2 points

Trey wasn't gonna get any minutes here anyway. He'll get a scholarship somewhere else where he can actually get some solid run. Is Benford honestly required to sit on his hands regarding a player recruited by the former coach when there's a roster spot that can be improved? We don't even know that he flatout cut the guy anyway--hell, it's not close to confirmed that Norris is even gone.2 points

Because my mileage doesn't vary, it's just very high (damnit!!). We don't know the details well enough, and I want to make sure (like nothing to do with twitter - official announcement sure) before commenting any further. If Trey did leave, good luck to him wherever he may land. Anyone who drives me back to the hotel in Hot Springs at 3:30AM is a good. Some would say I was lucky to make it out of the woods alive.1 point

Top tier programs capitalize whenever they have the opportunity to gain talent. This is going to be the price we pay to win big. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but that is the way it is.1 point

Only problem with this is that TCU doesn't want to play us. Their alumni like the history of the rivalry with SMU, their administration and the AD like the coverage that the SMU-TCU game brings every year, which they haven't gotten when playing conference teams from time zones away, and their fans made it clear when we played them last time in FW (and gave them a dogfight of a game) to their AD that they don't gain anything from playing North Texas, and that was when we were good. Lastly, I doubt that TCU will reach out to play us anytime soon, now that they are in the Big XII and will play Tech, Baylor, and Texas, as well as SMU each year. Its why I would follow their own footsteps and schedule teams out west for OOC games, get BYU in here, play Colorado State or Air Force again, setup a series with Fresno State or San Diego State. Those teams are good names for OOC and you can get home-and-home series with them fairly easily. SMU only has Houston in its conference from Texas, so they will entertain playing us at least for a couple of games, or until they don't need us anymore. But TCU and Baylor and Tech are in much different places today than when we used to play them 10 years ago. I doubt we will see any of them on our schedules for a long time. And to be honest, we don't need them. We have in-state conference games now (finally!!), plus we need more OOC home-and-home series against teams from the MWC, MAC, and lower-rung AQ teams.1 point

Logic escapes some folks...don't even try. Problem here is not that folks don't want to play and do back to backs with SEC/Big XII, etc. teams...it's the risk of having to shell out $250,000 - $300,000 at this point with UNT's fan base, support and attendance that is the issue. Hard to actually risk that sort of cash at UNT right now and justify it as something to the effect..."well, we had great attendance at that one game, but we lost out shirts financially"....just not enough "free cash" floating around right now I would think to try to take that on. Lots of folks don't seem to realize that UNT's fan base and support level do not justify very many risks to the overall budget like that.....I think all UNT fans would love to see big name schools come to Apogee for games, and I think in the not so distant future we'll see just that. So, if Mean Green 93-98 wants to see those "bigger boys" at Apogee...just like the rest of us would....fans need to step up and buy season tickets, club seats and donate to the capital campaigns and join the Mean green Club. Folks can't continue to "let someone else do it" or get mad at some little nothing and withhold support and see that scheduling situation change anytime soon.1 point
-
Not to rain on the parade of black college bashing or anything, but the four-year rate at UNT is 19%.1 point
-
Anyone want to guess what a SEC team wants in the way of guaranteed money to play at Apogee? Well, it's in the $250,000-$300,000 range. Pretty big risk when the fans have not shown the willingness to buy season tickets, join the Mean green Club or to fill Apogee. Sure, some will say...well, schedule that SEC team and "we will come". Me, if I am AD I don't do that for a one-off game to satisfy the "bandwagon" folks and get them to one one and done never to be seen again. cannot build a program on those level of "fans"...and UNT seems to have plenty that fit that bill. UNT needs folks like TCU has that will come out and fill the stadium even for a TSU. Cannot build a program with fans "who know everything" yet won't buy tickets or donate to the program unless a long list of "pure stuff" takes place first. RV said last night, for the folks attending the Kickoff-Cookout, that he wasn't thrilled with the schedule this year either and that we won't see that again....really nice of him to talk about that and acknowledge the situation to those in attendance. Did hear from a source that UNT was trying to schedule several opponents for this year at Apogee, but conference realignment issues and money issues came into play that hurt in several instances. I'll take his word for that...I do know that schedules...made years in advance, do have a way of changing as the actual dates get closer.....the fans who care will get through this season's schedule showing their support for the Mean Green and look forward to "bigger and better" in year's to come...bottom line...even TCU schedule such as Grambling and they can fill the stadium...the sky is not falling over the Mean Green nation.1 point
-
I'll hold most of my opinion until/if Trey officially leaves the program, but this really shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.1 point
