  1. I think the sticking point here is Grant.UNT's comment that he was donating last year at the $500 level, but then found out about the young alum program and decreased his gift significantly for the same benefit he was willing to pay more for last year. Honestly, this made me do a double-take as well. I certainly have no idea what his circumstances are, so there's no way I can say "That is wrong." Maybe his financial situation changed from last year? That's his business not mine. I certainly still qualify for this loophole as my wife graduated in 2010. But we give more because we want to and it still fits in our budget... Not for the benefits. For those of you out there who recently graduated and are still schlepping at entry-level positions, taking your lumps before you make your move up the ladder to the corner office; PLEASE TAKE ADVANTAGE of the young alumni giving program. It's really not too much per month (you can break your gift down into 5-month installments), and you can proudly say you're a Mean Green Club member and you are part of the University's climb to athletic dominance where one day Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Bama, et.al., will be begging us to let them in our conference. It really shouldn't matter what perks you get... unless you're in the "wheel club" or something... just give what you can.

  2. http://www.tsu.edu/Athletics/sports_pdf/mens-sports/football/fbschedule2012.pdf North Texas State??? Really??? You know...this would be slightly acceptable for an out of state school that has no clue but........this is a pretty stupid screwup on their part. Obviously, no big deal, but I'd like to beat them by 90 now just to spite their idiocy.

  3. Took this on my morning ride today. I hadn't been around back of the walkway and was kinda impressed with how large the facade looked from the Alumni Pavilion. The trip doubled as a shakedown ride for my newly completed beach cruiser to roadbike build, and a covert spy operation for today's scrimmage. Sadly my front tire was punctured by a broken beer bottle on the hill about 5 minutes after this taking this...

  4. "Accept our way of thinking or else!!" Yep, that's tolerance. UNT officals need to ignore this idiocy. Students need to "eat more chikin" on campus.

  7. I'll take the co-eds in the tight white oxford shirts, mini-skirts and cowboy boots walking around the tailgate area before the games. I know it will be tough, but I'll try to find some time to see how they are doing...tough that it might be, and I'll report back....those are the real "players" that come out on game day! And, this because "you know who" beat me to the punch in selecting this year's deep snapper as my adopted player. That's what being late to the party will get you!

  10. That is a very fair assessment of Tony based on his play last year, He did not show an NBA offensive game, and had a slow release on his jumper (requiring space in order to get the shot off), I'm sure he has worked hard and will be better this year. but to say he doesn't have an NBA offensive game based on last year's performance is nothing but dead on. Now, if only Tony could be convinced that he needed 2 full colllege seasons to develop that game...

  12. I think everyone agrees 5 to 7 wins is realistic for this squad. Anything less than 5 wins would be a disappointment, but calling 7 wins a miracle seems off base. The idea that the team could be one game better than last year and beat an fcs team seems pretty reasonable.

  13. I'm going to sound like a jerk here, but I don't care... This is getting blown way out of proportion because the kid can still go play for the middle school where he'll still be twice the size of everyone else. In Grapevine it wasn't even an option to play pee-wee once you got to 7th grade. This kid needs to nut up and play in the league he belongs in.

  14. Young Alums can actually purchase in sections 103, 104, 106, 107, 206 & 208 on the alumni side at Young Alumn section pricing ($105/seat). I think that was a secret last year (I was smart enough to ask though) but this year it appears to be a listed benefit. Recent Grads willing to donate their extremely limited, and sometimes non-existent (i.e. me), money to the program does a hell of a lot more for the program than bithcing on the Internet about pdfs, trips to Walmart and 1988. 15. Alvarado HS X-MAN 2014 guard, Xavier Adams (Alvarado/Texas the Dream) picked up three offers after the month of July. Adams had a big game of 27 points/25 rebounds in front of Texas Tech, New Mexico and Arizona State coaches. All three programs have offered the versatile rising junior, including North Texas. Others interested in Adams are Creighton, Iowa Texas, LSU, Colorado, Colorado State, Oklahoma, State, TCU, SMU and Ole Miss. http://texashoops.ri...asp?CID=1397548 Briefly … Texas The Dream 2014 downed the Dallas Mustangs 16 Blue, 62-46, in pool-play action. Xavier Adams scored 19 points, and Hayden Hunter added 13 for The Dream. Several big-name coaches were in attendance for the first evening of tournament play, including new coaches Larry Brown (SMU), Danny Manning (Tulsa), Tony Benford (North Texas) and Rodney Terry (Fresno State). http://texashoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1360121 http://www.ncsasport...l/xavier-adams3

  16. It has become a fun yearly tradition for Mean Green faithful to chose one of their favorite players on the team and "adopt" them as their player-to-watch. Weekly update threads are formed after each game to brag on your boy's statistics, or that jaw-dropping play he made or was in on. Here is a link to the roster. http://www.meangreen...=562&SPSID=9053 Take a look-see and chose the guy you want to adopt. It doesn't matter who: It could be a guy you think is going to be all-conference, a sleeper that you think will surprise everyone, a freshman that you expect to blow up, or some just choose out of pity's sake. Make your picks here. With the first pick in the first round, MeanGreenTexan selects: Zachary Orr. MLB. Bust some heads Zach! 17. Kickoff is at 6pm on September 1st to watch our beloved Mean Green take down the #1 LSU Tigers. Rudy's will have drink specials for North Texas fans. We will have door prizes, courtesy of the UNT Alumni Association. This year I'll be bringing a PA system to the Allen watching parties so we can still hear the game over the cheering. Rudy's is located on the east side of Central Expressway, just south of Stacy Rd in the Villages of Allen. If Allen is just too far for you and Lewisville is more convenient, be sure to check out the sister watching party at Fox and Hound in Lewisville. SO WHO'S COMING TO RUDY'S???

  20. Oh jeez. This could be an all out war if the university decides to remove it. I can really see both sides of it. I guess, what it comes down to, is if the university feels comfortable leaving a company that donates to anti-gay causes on campus. If this were a private school, there would be no issue. But because it's public.....it could be ugly.

  25. I hope he is innocent. also, but not looking good. Note he was taken to a federal holding facility, which means federal charges. A 1 1/2 year investigtion probably means a wire tap and telephone conversations. Hopefully there is some terrible mix up. If not, I think we are talking more than a couple of eight balls... much more...

  32. Put me down as 7-5 I think 8-4 is possible, and I still think the belt sucks. We win all our home games, and two - three additional. I don't believe there is a team in the Belt we can't beat this year. I am not saying we sweep but could win. We have 8 conference games plus Texas Southern that is 9 can wins. I also don't believe Houston is unbeatable I guess we will see, our team will have had time to gell by the Houston game this year if we are not too beat up. I can say I really believe in our head coach now. We go 8-4 I will take the bowl as a win also.

  33. This is my first post after visiting for a few weeks. I feel the need to take you youngsters back to the last three seasons of my time at what was then NTSU: 1966 - last year for Odus Mitchell, the Eagles went 8-2 with wins over New Mexico State and Texas Western (now UTEP), but losing to nemesis Tulsa and Wichita. 1967 - first year under Rod Rust, they went 7-1-1, falling to Memphis the last game of the season, with a tie with NM State, and wins over Colorado State and Tulsa. 1968 - they went 8-2 with upset loss to Memphis and losing to Arkansas 15-17, and wins over NM State, Colorado State, Tulsa, and UTEP That is a three-year record of 23-5-1, with Joe Greene named All-American, two MVC championships, the birth of the Mean Green, and capacity crowds at (pre-expansion) Fouts Field.
