Your constant negativity astounds me, given you're someone who lives and dies for this program. You remind me of Boston sports fans. "If the Patriots don't win by 35 and Tom Brady doesn't throw for 400 yards and 5 TD's every week, he's a bum and Brian Hoyer needs to be put in, and Belichick should be fired. For good measure, let's blow up Gillette Stadium and rebuild the old stadium to relive the glory days of going 3-13."-the thought process of Boston sports fans. That is what you remind me of.8 points

And the Dodge era. I have a feeling I know why FFR is so worked up over this. Years ago, the department relied on many hard core fans to help with certain activities, player BBQ, handing out schedules/posters, reporting from practice, coming up with ideas to increase interest, etc..., and FFR was a big part of this. The program has grown beyond this and FFR still wants to be involved/heard but the department is not responsive like they were in years past. Just part of our program finally growing up.5 points

You mean you feel it's out of place that a 5th year senior is starting over a sophomore who has been away from live-action football for over a year?4 points

Oh, no worries, Grant! They hate ALL of us here on the "worst college fan board in all of college football!"... http://meanandgreen.freeforums.org/the-other-board-and-why-it-t29.html But, "gay pride!" If you weren't sure enough that you're in good company, Grant, know that we're all "tards" together!!! http://meanandgreen.freeforums.org/the-other-board-t102.html And yes... almost all of them still post over here and S&M themselves to miserable ecstasy with NT sports. Chin up, Grant. It'll be okay, even if we're all terrible, unfunny gays with missing chromosomes.3 points

Not to pile on here... but I've called Jessica 4 times throughout the life of my MGC membership. Left messages all 4 times, waited 2-3 days and never heard back from her. Had to go up to John B, who's now gone. As the new director, I hope she's better about answering, or at least returning messages.3 points

Now that I have your attention... This year, in addition to participating in my 4th Swim Across the Sound, I will be running in the ING New York City Marathon on November 4th. Bump. If I understand one tenant of fiscal conservatism, deserving social programs and charities should be funded through the generosity of the populous. There are few more deserving and noble entities than Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang. Or if you want a smile at the thought that you're donating to 3 1/2 to 4 hours of my physical discomfort, that's cool too.3 points

Who twitter tweeted: @J_Holmen Last year's mindset = Sun Belt Championship. This year's mindset = National Championship. New coaching staff made believers of us all. And let me add my own hashtag. #attitude #GMG3 points

I hear ya. I can see both sides. To those of us who live far away it's a moot point. Did you know that Arkansas State reportedly had 4,000 fans show up for their first scrimmage? Did an open scrimmage create the excitement in their fan base or was it possibly a potential bowl-bound team that drew those fans?3 points

No, but Jupiter did. Its gravity typically captures random space rocks before they get to us.3 points

So it sounds like Jessica is just like every other cute, 20-something girl...never calls me back.2 points

It's not my intention to be negative, but I've found Jessica difficult to reach. I wanted to join the MGC through payroll deduction and she never called me back. I finally gave up and mailed them a check.2 points

I'm digging these Mac Minutes. The second video brought up a side-thought for me. Coach McCarney often talks about his players becoming better students/men/husbands/fathers. I know I've heard him mention this several times myself. However, I don't see him getting his nuts kicked all the time like some do our former coach to this day... why is that? I don't think either of them are football ogres, only concerned with results on the field, and I fully believe they both want all of the players they come in contact with to become better men. It's just one of them is a proven BCS HC, while the other was an experiment gone way wrong. Bash Dodge's coaching abilities all you want, that is deserved. But I don't think he should be bashed for something that our current coach also believes in. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next Minute with Mac.2 points

He said in an interview that right after he was hired the eye started "leaking". Basically, the eye was damaged by years in the sun with no protection. He had several surgeries to repair the issue but it didn't work - I don't think the surgeries were botched ... I think they just didn't help.2 points

per Vito- "Canales singled out four offensive linemen who have made significant progress during the early stages of fall practice: backup junior tackle LaChris Anyiam, freshman Connor Trussell, Arkansas transfer Cam Feldt and freshman walk-on Kaydon Kirby."2 points

I just called the ticket office and got right through. They said the tickets will be sent out within the next week and a half. They are just waiting for them to come in from the printer. The number is 1-800-868-2366 and they are open 8am-5pm M-F. I personally don't remember ever having problems getting a hold of someone in the ticket office. Maybe I'm just lucky.2 points

Benford is doing it right. The new attitude has changed the programs perception. CJones believes he can make it to the NBA next season. Holmen and co are thinking national championship. Future recruits are going to see North Texas as a prime destination.2 points

The cause of anthropogenic climate change is pollution - the release of fossil CO2 into the atmosphere. And, just like ozone, mercury, & lead pollution, the increase in CO2 is something we can do something about but only if we first recognize the problem. Even if yyz28 is right, and the science linking global warming to human release of CO2 isn't certain (science is never certain - it doesn't work that way), we will still be better off by dealing with the problem aggressively. Our air will be cleaner, our oceans less acidic, & our use and dependence on fossil fuels will decrease. We will be forced to build newer & cleaner nuclear power plants & find other sources of energy. We will be forced to live simpler, cleaner, more intelligent lives. I'm convinced the scientists are right and the CO2 we're releasing is having a devastating effect on the environment & on or future. But even if I'm wrong, and I hope I am, we're still better off behaving as if the treat is real.2 points

Deep, I appreciate emmitt, KRAM and crew doing this, but first, I don't believe this required the permission of the athletic department. Second, the main issue is opening practices against the wishes of the head coach to pacify a few hard core fans who think this will grow attendance. My point was that during the Dickey era especially, practices were open and attendance sucked. The average person that we are trying to attract to turn into fans could care less about watching practice or a preseason scrimmage especially in 100° heat.2 points
-
If someone is pissed that they can't watch a practice or scrimmage they should probably find a new hobby. There are better things to do with your free time.2 points

If he makes the final roster, most of us will start posting in the "why didn't we play Olawale more" thread, to the detriment of the "why aren't practices open" thread.2 points

They are looking at him for short yardage/goalline situations. Gaining 1.5 will get the job done and you have to imagine that would go up behind the 1st string line. Good and smart special teams play will help though.2 points

It has already been pointed out, accurately I believe, that only HCF's (hard core fans) want to go to practice, and that those guys will show up to games anyway. This, in spite of the fact (allegedly) that the athletic department hates its HCF's. Frankly, the only thing that opening practice will do is free up board space for those that constantly publicize athletic department faults to post something else wrong. But, GMG2 points

You keep bringing up that if people get to attend a practice/scrimmage it will translate to the turnstile turning more. You are directly linking attending practice = more attendance. You keep saying we're "desperate" for fans while needing to open up practices.2 points
-
Look I know they don't pay athletic fees but I do wonder if we allowed UNTD and TWU students in for free with student ID, I just wonder if that could boost attendance just a little. Look I know it won't all of a sudden be fun but hey you can attract new people to experience our gameday and our new beautiful stadium. Something to consider while we're not exactly selling out home games.1 point
