  1. All fall practices for most major football programs are closed to the public. I don't know why people continue to have a problem with this.

  2. I believe that his redshirt was due to injury in 2nd year. Dodge's decision turned out to have no real impact on his eligibility.

  5. I've asked the question for the last 3 years, but have never gotten a response. Last year would have been ideal w/ all the incoming freshman we had. It gives teams bonding experience & chemistry. History shows that teams who get to participate in these summers events start out much better than those who don't. If my memory is correct , MTSU played this past summer & FAU, Denver the year before I don't know if it's money or not, but I would guess even a trip to Canada would be pretty expensive As far as marketing this team so far , epic fail. If I wasn't such a huge fan I would have no idea how good this team is expected to be. IMO season ticket sales should have been made available to the public as soon as Benford was named Head Coach and/or Tony Mitchell announced he was staying. Had a co worker (someone who has only been To 1 UNT game) call ticket office right after TM said he was coming back only to be told to call back months later. Sorry, that can't happen. You have to capitalize on the opportunity. It's not too late to market Tony Mitchell and this team, but if we aren't making an effort for near sellouts it will be a huge dissappointment I think the students will show up for BB like never before , but we need to get the word out to the alumni & the DFW

  8. Well, these overachievers could always stay for their PHD and take in another 4 years of fun. But seriously, congrats to everyone who walked the stage today. Proud of the student athletes for not forgetting the student part.

  12. "And Thompson must have been eager to make up for the time-change inconvenience. The Glen Rose, Texas native completed his first three passes, and was 13-of-24 for 202 yards and three touchdowns in the scrimmage. Most importantly, Thompson managed to not throw a pick against a stingy defense" http://www.meangreen...TCLID=205579422

  13. Lets just hope DT doesn't have too much of a break out year. Now that he has graduated, he could transfer and be immediately eligible anywhere. I'd hate for him mangrum us. Edit: don't blow a gasket. Just jokin

  14. Yeah I had taken that into consideration, but as you said it's rare and mystifying. I can only recall 2 off the top of my head (Keenum, and some receiver from UT whose name escapes me), and I think it's pretty clear why those 2 got it. One went to UT, and the other was going to break records. Publicity and money, cash and fame, recognition and wealth.

  15. They can practice it all they want. Until they increase their knowledge, though, and address prime faults in their scientific process and methods, then it's just profit by means of conjecture. People who practice science used to believe that the sun revolved around the earth. People who practice science used to believe that vaccinations in the 80s wouldn't stop working in 2000. Quite frankly, you can post all the links you want, but until you post one about consensus in the scientific community regarding lead times of CO2 temperature change or absolute analysis of deep sea interaction with the atmosphere, then this "science" is based on faulty climate models. By the way, I can keep going, there's at least 3 or 4 more areas where climate models fail and rely on conjecture. But again, I'm not expecting scientific debate here. Pointing out the lack of clean science in the matter is the same as pointing to a lack of consensus on Biblical interpretations. People believe what they believe, and they're not going to change it.

  16. It has already been pointed out, accurately I believe, that only HCF's (hard core fans) want to go to practice, and that those guys will show up to games anyway. This, in spite of the fact (allegedly) that the athletic department hates its HCF's. Frankly, the only thing that opening practice will do is free up board space for those that constantly publicize athletic department faults to post something else wrong. But, GMG

  17. Where did the "Glory years" tag come from in the first place? Mac didn't exactly say anything that many didn't already know and feel. That run was against new schools to D1 football and before Troy joined. Honestly, we have not had any glory years in ages. UNT's facilities and salaries were on par with everyone else in that startup league. True, there were 26 consecutive wins against these startups but we didn't dominate anybody. Outside of the worst conference in D1 football, as Mac accurately pointed out, we were awful. We will eventually get there with a new stadium and a better regional conference. Not convinced it will be under McCarney, who doesn't exactly have a storied history at Iowa St himself. Maybe it's just me but i'm embarrassed to suggest to anyone outside of Denton or this message board that those start up years in the Sunbelt were glorious times.

  23. I don't think that allowing people to attend practice will increase attendance. Mainly because most (if not all) of the people doing so are usually long time attendees of North Texas games anyway. However, keeping these same people away from practice doesn't help attendance nor does it enhance good will between the athletic department and fans.....casual or otherwise. Now, this is about as far as I'm going to stick my hand into this tar-baby of a thread.
    1 point
  24. I agree that we need more fans to attend games; I don't think opening practice to the general public will get more people to attend home games.
    1 point
  25. You keep bringing up that if people get to attend a practice/scrimmage it will translate to the turnstile turning more. You are directly linking attending practice = more attendance. You keep saying we're "desperate" for fans while needing to open up practices.
    1 point
  26. Being able to attend practice is up to the head coach. Trust in Mac. He should have plenty of cred with us after last season, as long as we take another step forward. Sorry for picking on you UNT90, but I think you meant COULDN'T care less. Sorry, I know my grammer isn't always stellar, but this one bothers me....other than that, I agree with your stance.

  27. Scrimmages are kinda pointless to watch for a fan IMO If the OL is looking good , means the DL is looking bad If the WRs are making plays , means the DBs aren't If the RBs are making big plays , means the LB are missing assignments Kinda hard to get too excited about something without having a concern about something else

  30. If we were playing in the BIG XII and had the threat of Baylor or TCU spying in , then I could totally understand closing it. Fact is we are in the Sunbelt and I don't think Texas Southern or Monroe is going to waste time coming here just to look for a play or 2 One could say it might help build a much needed fanbase by allowing some access. Starting next year , being in C-USA , I would totally get the closed practices. This is really a no win argument. It's Mac's choice and we have to respect it. I'm sure it's 50/50 on the list of schools who have open/close practices What's done is done , time to move on Dont worry folks, we are less than 500 hours till kick off!!

  31. Allowing access to practices/scrimmages won't fix any attendance problems. This is a feel good thing for a small group of people that want an all-access pass.

  32. Another was an abysmal OOC record that drew no attention toward the football program and affected the ability to recruit. Beating ULL, MTSU, and the like just didn't, and doesn't, do it for the casual UNT alum and college fan. Thank God this is our last year in the Belt.

  33. Petty...petty...petty! Everyone knows the rules that Coach Mac has in place...Anyone who cared could post an equal and/or longer list for the university programs that hold "closed practices" and scrimmages...who cares? Time to move on folks. Get over it and move on. If you just cannot live without seeing a practice, it seems Adler has posted exactly how you can do that...there are even places where there is shade. My guess, it's more about complaining and whining than it is about getting oneself out to actually watch some random football practice.

  40. I was frustrated as anybody with our non-conf record during those years but win 5 conference games in a row, hell win 5 conf games in a season, much less 25 in a row and then we'll talk. Besides 94, those are the only winning seasons I've experienced in close to 20 years as a Mean Green fan. Pardon me if I hold them close to my heart.

  42. There's quite a bit of evidence in the scientific literature. I assume you're familiar with it. Correlation doesn't imply causation but it is a necessary condition for causation. Again, I assume you're familiar with the relevant scientific literature and not just with what Tony Watts says the literature says. Thank you, I will.

  43. There is one player that makes this predicition of how far we can go this coming season difficult. Much of our success will depend on the development of Keith Coleman. Coleman has all of the physical attributes...he has size, strength, and runs the court well. But, he is rather raw. He's only been playing since he was a freshman in high school. Hopefully, he excels in the cram course. Almost as critical is who backs him up when he gets in foul trouble? Niko would seem to be that person. He has the height but he appears to be more of a finesse player rather than a scrapper. He's a good player but can he excel with his back to the basket? If not Niko can Holmen be taught that role? There is plenty of potential with this squad but can they develop fast enough?

  44. Scepticism (and by 'scepticism' I mean skepticism) is healthy. It should, however, be informed by some knowledge of the subject. The vast majority of climate scientists - the people with knowledge - believe that climate change is occurring, that it is in large part due to man's activity, and that it will have a huge impact on the well-being of our children & grandchildren. Man has released massive amounts of CO2. CO2 is a well-documented green-house gas. The earth's mean temperature has shown a strong correlation with atmospheric CO2 levels. You may believe that climate change isn't happening or that it isn't due to human burning of fossil carbon. Your belief, however, isn't based on science. It's based on economics, or ideology, or some misinformation you've been exposed to.
