  1. Or, your human emotional need for control and the belief that since you can affect something, you can change it, is a defense mechanism that has gone awry.

  4. All fall practices for most major football programs are closed to the public. I don't know why people continue to have a problem with this.

  5. I haven't seen anything on the A.D. website about it. I'm not sure how informative that would be anyhow: "The offense just ran a successful play that we can't tell you anything else about. . . . "

  6. FB Jamize Olawale from North Texas had a good practice, getting more reps with RBs Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar out with injuries. Olawale had a good run and was able to get open in the flat for big gains on catches. He moves well in space. However, after practice was over the undrafted rookie was carrying off the shoulder pads of FB Lawrence Vickers and RBs DeMarco Murray and Javarris Williams.

  23. The "Benefits List" that PDF came from were handed to MGC Club Reps over 20 months ago. I have a copy of it as do many others here as well. The coaches left 4 months ago. Since then, there has been the coaches caravans and printed posters produced, emails sent for ticket renewals, the 101 event, the BBQ Kick Off event and now an invite to a football closed practice, all to drive ticket sales and donations. I can't help but wonder why it takes 4 months to get the PDF corrected, but considering we are now 21 days till kick off, Im thinking now may be the time to get that done? The AD Dept is reading this so I'm sure the correction will come any day. Rick

  25. Who said it is occurring randomly? What a straw man. Assuming you buy that data, and I don't based on some of NOAA's history, to state that it isn't random and may have a cause is NOT the same as saying man is causing it. We KNOW we're going through the peak of the 12 year solar cycle. ...and it's interesting that they don't include the fact that the 4 months BEFORE June 2011 were some of the COLDEST on record. The logic in the cause and effect is wrong - IF (and that's a big if) it isn't random, it must be man made? Pretty big leap there if you ask me.

  26. There are probably only about ten teams in the entire country that have a really good center that is over 6'10". There are only a few NBA teams with a legitimate center. I think Coleman starts there and Mitchell plays the 5 when he is out. Mitchell is probably as good as any center we would face all season. I don't see it being much of a problem if Coleman can be a 7 and 7 guy in 20-25 minutes a night.

  27. It's really bad when people have their private little pity and gripe parties interrupted by the facts. Really, folks...time to stop even trying to get some folks to "lighten up". You prove them wrong in one area and off they go to another little poop party...it's a no win situation. So, let's hope the multitudes that think seeing a closed practice is the best thing since sliced bread all show up...I hope someone takes roll to see if the folks who complained the loudest actually show up....they are all $1000+ per year donors, right? Really glad to see we can all put this little gripe behind us and move on...cannot wait to see what the pet complaint becomes next. What next "lie" will be uncovered by our crack Mean Green Club detectives next????? Too funny!

  29. Actually Cincinnati was the conference champion that year. The biggest win I have seen was the big victory over a ranked Drake basketball team that earned the Men's Gym the nickname the Snake Pit. The place was packed as usual and I remember NT was up 18-4 before Drake got a little competitive. The crappy old gym provided a home advantage that was close to unparalleled. Most night games were sell outs and probably two thirds of the attendees were students who stood and yelled through most of the game. A fan experience that I have never seen equaled at NT or elsewhere.

  33. Anyone else hear about this movie? I went to lunch with my dad, and he's a big Talk Radio Conservative guy. Anyway, I heard an advertisement for this movie, and it sounds kooky to me. These days, it's whatever plays at Studio Movie Grill's Saturday morning Kidtoons for us as far as movies go (This week, it's a Thomas the Tank Engine flick...oughta be a real nailbiter). But, even if I were still into politics, this thing sounds pretty much like grasping at straws. And, believe me, I'm no fan or apologist for Barak Obama. Stuff like this reeks of being forced. I know that a few years ago Leftists were doing similar polito-crap-umentaries about Bush. Crazy. Both sides are just crazy. I'll never understand why people still get so wrapped up in political stuff when everyone involved is so intellectually thin. I mean, look, the government can't even balance it's own checkbook. I gotta worry about some conspiracy from the Left or Right? Look, no one in Washington, D.C. can even keep a secret, much less mastermind a conspiracy that shifts the fate of a nation offshore. Give me a break with these movies. Michael Moore was bad enough last decade. And, now, all of these wacky neo-Ayn Rand followers from the Right. Just go away already.

  37. Seems to me it often goes this way..... If a liberal disagrees with you, then YOU should be more tolerant. But if you disagree with a liberal, they want to find a way to punish you. I wonder what it is about those ever so tolerant liberals?

  42. North Texas should be the premier program of CUSA when they arrive in 2013. Memphis was one of the best in the nation and UCF was North Texas' equal but both are departing. If history prevails our toughest competition will come from FIU, East Carolina and UTEP but I like our chances.

  43. Conference USA is a level above the Sunbelt based on the number of teams that traditionally get invites to the NCAA tournament. There are many years when CUSA will field two teams to the dance. I don't believe the Sunbelt has ever fielded more than one team, the conference tournament champion. Memphis, SMU, Colorado College and UCF all have had traditionally good programs. All but a few teams have had success one year or another (balanced conference) . 8 of the 12 teams had winning records last year.. That being said UNT will immediately compete in the upper level of the new conference a could potentially win a conference championship their first year. In 2013, Memphis their traditional power house will be moving to the Big East along with two very good programs in SMU and UCF. Note: They beat Houston & SMU ( the third best team in CUSA) last year. UNT traditionally will compete and more often win verse larger confernce teams including the Big 12.. In recent years they have included victories verse teams like (TCU, SMU, Oklahoma, TX Tech, Iowa State, Baylor) and competitive matches verse teams like Ohio State and TX A&M. In a nutshell the soccer was probably ready to make the jump to a larger conference 10 years ago.....

  45. I didn't realize pointing out a problem that need addressing, that a donation benefit was not being realized by several donors was twisting a fact? Your boss sure didn't think so when he was approached about it by a major donor in Hot Springs. But what ever you say. Hopefully we're working on something to promote the TSU and ULL games. As for approaching the department to help, that was done last week by another one of our donors and was quickly dismissed with a "We Got It". I won't even begin to address what "Dropping A Line" has gotten people over the years, so I won't. Just curious, by my pointing out that the current link to the online benefits page still has Karen Aston and Johnny Jones on it, is that twisting a fact? Rick
