If you think someone who gives 100K to OU doesn't get to attend closed practice sessons, I got some swamp land to sell you. I'm upset, also, but I'm upset because all it takes is 1K to hit the sidelines in a closed practice. That is embarassing for all of our alumni. It just shocks me that people constantly b@#*& about not getting this or that for their donation (the yearly gripe about GMG club gifts come to mind, or the gripe about no party patio at the new stadium). Or, in this case, that people who donate a specific amount get a benefit others don't. If you want to stay a piss ant program, just continue down this merry path. After all, it has worked soooo well. It's a donation to the athletic department. I don't expect anything in return. That's what happens when you donate. I wonder if people on here demand social gatherings or pot luck Sunday brunch when they donate to their church. Jeez.

I hardley ever see anyone at practices, even other parents. Parents have to notify the coaching staff they are going to be there and see a specific individual or you don't get in. Most you see in the stands or on the/sideline is a former player or two or maybe a guest of the coaches. Don't know anything about MGC members being there. . I don't know of any other university in Texas that has open pracitces in the Fall. You certianly cannot watch ATMs,Baylors or UTs. I know membership in the 12thMan Foundation doesn't get you anything but a car sticker. Don't really know what all the hubbub is about. Practices are boring to watch. If I didn't have a vested interest I certainly wouldn't be there and I am a die hard football nut as there is.

Pretty good summary here of the attitude many so-called "fans" of the Mean green have and a prime example of why UNT struggles so much to fill seats and raise funds...this "what's in it for me" attitude is so hard to counter...UNT fans who give $125 want $250 worth of tangible benefits it seems, and seem to always be jealous of those who give more and thus get a higher level of "benefit" as fans do all over the college sports world....why not be glad that some folks can and do give more...thank them for their support and be happy with what you can do yourself? I know Silver contributes and shows up at the football games...so, let's not dump on Silver here...I'm not directing this at Silver, but rather at the attitude expressed in the above comments which seem to prevail all across the UNT universe.

There are still a lot of good people on the AAU circuit who are in it for the right reason. It's unfortunate that the actions of a few have tainted the image as a whole

If only we could get as many people to the games as we used to get to the practices...allegedly. I have been to a few practices in the past...other than for scrimmages, I can't recall seeing more than, and I will be generous here, 50 people (usually about 5-15 fans from this board and a few parents of players that lived in the metroplex). I don't disagree with the notion that we shouldn't be doing anything to piss off fans. I just think fans need to respect the wishes of the coaching staff on this one and let their anticipation build for game day. I just thank the Lord daily for providing this invaluable internet "suggestion box" to voice all of our complaints. And SE, I owe you appreciation for providing the inspiration for my avatar! GMG

I've been meaning to post this for a while now. I had never watched softball until the National Title series between Oklahoma and Alabama. My in-laws who are big Oklahoma fans were in town, and wanted to watch the game (game 1). I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but I did. They left the next day, and I ended up watching the other two games in the series. I think girls play softball completly different from they way guys play baseball, and I thought it was really fun to watch. Next season, I plan to attend some UNT softball games, and support our softball team more. I'd love to see our girls play for a National Title some day, and I think with enough support they can.

Sumlin to the SEC is one of the more interesting things for me to follow this year. Without him, I really wouldn't give 2 cents about A&M. I can't wait to see how his style goes over in the SEC, and if/how he will adapt.

It will certainly be interesting to see how an offensive-minded coach does in the SEC West. I think coach Spurrier, who had some of the greatest offenses is showing us how it works in the SEC East.

The closed practice was listed, may still be, as a benefit for certain levels of giving in the MGC brochure. However, Mac has kept fall football practices closed, and to date, there has not been one whereas Mean Green Club members were invited. There was a practice last year before the first game to which former lettermen, faculty, and player's families were invited. I believe it was a Saturday scrimmage. When I asked about the closed practice issue for MGC members, I was told it was Mac's sole decision as to who is invited. I think inviting the lettermen, faculty, and parents is a good decision. Most especially, there needs to be better relations with the faculty, as we can all agree has not been the case in relation to the athletic program. As for the lettermen, it is a good thing to get them back on board for the future as we have for to many who may not have been back to a game since their last play in a uniform.

Na, it's college football hate. Not real, live hate. I'll be OK. And to be clear, I don't hate the fans of the program (well, not most, anyway), I just wish massive, massive failure on UTSA as a program. Like no winning conference record in CUSA for the next 10 years failure (which I think is a distinct possibility). Success should be earned, not given, and it was given to your program. Like I said, it may not be right, but it just is.

I recall DMac saying that all Spring practices were open, but all (or most) fall practices are closed. And, yes, this affects about 50 people who actually want to attend practice. I would bet this was not a determining factor in one single person deciding against giving at the $250 level.

Because they have built nothing, accomplished nothing, and yet get rewarded simply because of a TV market. It's like the son of the boss who gets promoted to VP of Operations at the ripe old age of 17, ahead of those who have worked hard to earn the position (MTSU, Arkansas St., etc...). And not only does the 17 year old get that promotion, he then actually thinks he did something to deserve it (just view the CUSA board). Gag, barf, puke. I hate this program and always will. One of the benefits of CUSA is the league contribution towards bowl travel. I remember reading CUSA picks up the travel tab for their bowl teams, which why no one complains about going to the HI bowl.

I'd be stunned if anyone not named WKU can dominate the Belt for years to come.

Well, following a trend, the entire University of Oklahoma campus went smoke free as of this last Sunday (July 1, 2012). Originally it was planned to have two areas on campus where smoking would be allowed, but the law was signed making the entire campus smoke free. Looks like UNT is following a trend that is spreading widely on college campuses these days.

People who think this way will never join. You join the Mean Green Club to support Mean Green athletics. Anything you get as a benefit is just that, an added benefit. Do you want to be a major athletic program or not? Major donors at major athletic programs get benefits minor donors don't. That is the way major athletic programs work. Or, we could keep doing things the way we have for the past 20 years. That seems to have worked out well...

Actually, my dislike of SMU stems from my elitism. I think we're better than them.

Now the Ticket is reporting that Kidd backs out of his contract in favor of the Knicks. Summer of 2013 = Draft Tony Mitchell in the lottery and hopefully land some kind of decent FA.

Interesting logic. "I don't want to join that club because it will give me access to something others don't have access to". I don't know if it was intended to come across that way. I also hear complaints that there aren't enough MGC member only events. I guess you can't please everyone.

I don't have a problem with it really.

The trend in Texas at least is due to the CPRIT saying it will tie all future funding for research to tobacco-free policies. That means between $30-80million for UT Austin. For North Texas... well, we currently receive $200k. Still, take the money. At least then the decision is sensible. OU's decision does not appear to be based on funding.

And does he rent or own a home? Somebody here has got to know.

Interesting but UTSA opens with South Alabama. It will be worth watching that result to compare between a common opponent when we have South Alabama later in the year.
