  1. “We sold right at 12,000 season tickets (last year), exceeding my expectations, which were pretty high,” Goodman explains. “Right now, we are 100 percent ahead of where we were at this point last year, sitting just north of 10,000 (season tickets sold).” UTSA hopes to sell 15,000 season tickets this year, and the bar will likely be raised even higher as the Roadrunners prepare to move up to Conference USA. 7. I've been meaning to post this for a while now. I had never watched softball until the National Title series between Oklahoma and Alabama. My in-laws who are big Oklahoma fans were in town, and wanted to watch the game (game 1). I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but I did. They left the next day, and I ended up watching the other two games in the series. I think girls play softball completly different from they way guys play baseball, and I thought it was really fun to watch. Next season, I plan to attend some UNT softball games, and support our softball team more. I'd love to see our girls play for a National Title some day, and I think with enough support they can.

  11. Actually, San Diego State Aztecs were tied with another school for a ranking of #19 in that Top 20 poll. I think SDSU came into Fouts that day as a Big West Conference member but (as always) I stand to be corrected. I had to check with one of my main Mean Green resources for confirmation on the #19 part, though. Funny part was how the Aztecs "then" HFC Claude Gilbert after that game kicked the visiting team's water cooler off the wall destroying the cooler he was so mad. Our good friend Rick Spears told me "A.D." Fry had to send them a bill for the damage, too. (I never heard if they paid it or not, though). NTXCoog, it really seems to me that back in those era, you didn't seem to have to have a prior 50 year NCAA golden college football legacy or reputation to get ranked as it seems you do today. Our former conference-mate Boise State showed us all what it takes to get ranked and henceforth, we who are not in the Big 5 FBS conferences have to all aim high and follow their example. If you're reading this, NTXCoog, do you remember how high Duffy Daugherty's Michigan State team was ranked back on that 1967 Fall Game Day when UH shocked the nation with a slobber-knockin' of the Spartans? Our HS football team was on the way to a game in Schulenberg, Texas, against Sacred Heart HS but we were all listening to that UH game on our, uh, "transistor" radios. Our HFC was a UH alum and had no problem with us doing that, too. LOL! GMG!

  12. If you haven't been, every American should try to make at least one visit to Washington D. C. in their lifetime. I was there at a church related national convention for teens in August of 1963; actually, one week before Martin Luther King's famous "I Have A Dream" speech. (I was 12 years old). President Kennedy had been scheduled to speak to our church group's national congress that week in August, but Jackie lost her newborn baby that week so the President was by her side and had to bow out of his speaking engagement. I remember being so darn disappointed that I didn't get to see and hear our President but understood why he needed to be by his wife's side. For certain don't go to Washington D.C as a Democrat or a Republican, either....go as an American. We are (after all) on the same Red, White and Blue team here.

  13. I am so excited that UTSA is in our conference. I received my Bachelors at UTSA on the way to my PhD at UNT. Of course, I only cheer for the green. Why I am so excited is that I moved to Corpus last summer so I'll get to watch the Mean Green when we play in San Antonio! Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. This mean green family is in DC this week for the 4th. I met a nice couple in the capital building who asked me about UNT and mentioned they both went there as well. I've seen several Texas rangers shirts as well. Happy 4th mean greeners!!

  15. It is a sad day. But thanks to re-runs, we get to be with him (and his writers) indefinitely. His Andy Taylor character is a wonderful role model to aspire to........ both as a person and as a parent. In the reports/tributes that are written about him, they always mention when The Andy Griffith show started (1960). Here is a triva question. The Andy Griffith character actually first appeared on a popular sit-com of that era (mid-to-late 50's). Does anyone know what show that was?

  18. If you are ever in Washington D.C. In May or June, try to attend "Evening Parade" at the Marine Barracks. The Marine Corp Band and the Marine Corp Drum and Bugle Corp put on a wonderful show. Evening Parade is held on Friday nights and free tickets are required. Call well in advance. John Phillip Sousa was the first co neutron of the Marine Corp Band and to hear The Stars and Stripes Forever live, where it was first performed is really inspiring. Talk about bring a tear to your eye.... Happy Birthday to the United States of America GO MEAN GREEN

  19. Very good point. How strong was the schedule back in 1974? How does it compare to our 2012 schedule, as far as stregth of schedule? I'd think it would be hard to compare.

  20. ---Other than "Big Bang", today's comedy shows aren't worth much (my opinion). Can't watch all those reality things...cheap to produce. Andy Griffith show was 100% clean and anyone in family could watch, those don't exist now. .

  22. 1975 .............3 ..................35,530 ........................ 11,843 For you guys that were there in 1975, was the above attendance for 3 Fouts games or inclusive of the 2 TX Stadium games and 2 Fouts games? Above says we averaged 11843 for Fouts-only games. That number is fairly consistent with what I have heard about Fouts attendance, even in the Fry years.

  23. Maybe the plan is to get up by a couple of scores and then use that big O-line to maintain possession. Don't spend any more time on defense than you really need to. Oh, and use one of them as FB in short yardage situations.

  24. Thanks. I'll do that.

  25. I can't imagine Mac plans on adding too many more O linemen in this class. I wonder if all of these guys are for the offense, or if they are planning on moving any to defensive line?

  29. I'm not going to pretend to know how any of this will play out, but I will say, when the big boys shake things up, it's always to make things more lucrative for themselves. Our job is to create a situation where including us is financially benificial to them. That's really the only way to break into their club.

  30. The "star" system was created and now managed by a group of people who never stepped on a college football field and most on a high school field. One of the best QB's I have ever seen was rated 3 star...barely and NO ONE in Texas except UNT offered him. He is now at Michigan and will be the heir to Denard. Star system is for boosters to measure the success of the football team. Wins are the way the coaches measure the success of a football team.

  33. "I have no idea about this Fall, but Fry's 2'nd year disaster (2 wins) keeps coming up in my mind for some reason and (ultimately) I hope that's all it is--a false premonition. I hope that Coach Mac avoids or overcomes what many NCAA coach's have happen in their 2'nd year". Plum eat lots more fiber- this too will pass!

  37. Agree with Valley. This is a whole new ballgame for Texas A&M, and I have not been this interested in watching what transpires in College Station since my Sister was there in the 90's. People who think A&M will drop off the map are not thinking clearly. I know they hate losing the Texas game, but I am sorry having the Gators and Tigers of LSU drop into Kyle Field with their throngs of RV's, rabid fans and SEC tailgates is flat out exciting. The Texas TCU game is silly. I am glad that Thanksgiving now has sports options because I won't be tuning into this game. I don't like either team so no need to watch. Texas A&M has a lot of work to do to get ready for their new life. I know I am the minority here, but I am really excited to introduce the SEC to Texas football. Gig'em! GMG

  41. To be fair... One of the singularly dumbest things you have posted. Ever heard of prostrate cancer? Don't see the 50 year old white (see how liberals slip in the race card every chance they get, even when it has nothing to do with the argument at hand?) guy blaming that on Pres. Obama, do you? Just a little more prevelent than AIDS. And if Reagan was the problem, how can there be a healthy Magic Johnson? Shouldn't he be dead because of Reagan? Why don't you try disagreeing with one of these people (the ones at the white house) about gay marriage. You know, very respectfully telling them that, hey, whatever you want to do in your bedroom is your business, but my moral values do not allow me to agree with gay marriage. My guess would be that the response would be far worse than the response posted by TFLF. Now that's some tolerance for you.
