  1. You know what really pisses in my Cheerios? When I am sitting at Apogee watching a Mean Green football game and they show that old commercial where that goofy kid exchanges a coca-cola for a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey from that mean looking guy. How does that relate to NT?

  2. Actually, "white" was addressed to the likes of you, TLFL, Lifer, Rick...(as well as the middle age part...you know well who the "borring titles" part was geared toward...if I'm off on the age or ethnicity part...or if perhaps you're offended by my calling you "white" do let me know and I'll issue a full and sincere apology)...those who will get their mock-outrage hackles up seemingly weekly with another story of minor significance, politicize the crap out of it until the central issue of the discussion is completely buried amongst a pile of steaming "liberals do this, conservatives do that" dog shit. Frankly, I was simply trying to accelerate that process with a bit of satire. Magic Johnson never had AIDS. To your point about having a civil conversation with these particular individuals...you're absolutely right, you probably couldn't...these two (I believe their still unapologetic for their actions?) seem to have a considerable amount of mis-guided anger and showed considerable immaturity and a total lack of decorum with their decisions. Their actions have hurt their cause and if they remain unapologetic their immaturity is topped only by their selfishness. Their actions should be condemned...and have...by the White House, the LGBT community... Yet...despite all that...this is somehow at the feet of Barack Obama. In addition to being our Commander-in-Chief he also has to be our Chaperone-in-Chief? Oh...and before we talk about how they desecrated the hallowed ground of our White House, or some pompous mess like that, we should probably all take a moment to think of some of the activities that went on in that building during the Jackson, Grant (and I can't confirm this...but I'm just gonna guess Taft) administrations.

  5. Okay, you just said something that makes complete sense. If Ohio State, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, etc. keeps getting left out with the 4 team playoff, things will change in a hurry. An 8 or 16 team playoff does make sense to me.

  6. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2012/06/keller-ol-commits-to-unt.html/ " Cody Nelson, an offensive lineman from Keller, committed to UNT on Monday. UNT recruited Nelson, 6-5, 270 pounds, as a tackle. “I love the coaches and it’s close to home,” Nelson said late Tuesday. UNT made Nelson a priority in recruiting and offered him a scholarship early. Nelson said that Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech told him that there was a possibility that he would be offered a scholarship if he attended their summer camps. Nelson said that being a higher priority for UNT made the difference."

  7. I see this as the camel sticking its nose under the tent. Four team playoff gives the non-power conference zero change to get in, but the fact that we have a playoff will pave the way for future expansion. It WILL happen when they realize the money will be huge. By 2020, there will be talk of all conference champions receiving automatic bids.

  8. So the BCS commissioners spent six months developing a plan to replace the BCS. (Mr. Manson the court has found you guilty. What will your punishment be?) If you think you hated the BCS wait until this playoff sham begins.

  9. The real questions are how will the selection committee make its decisions and who gets to be on siad committiee. If it is full of the former "AQ" commissioners I do not believe a team like Boise or TCU would get in. In no way do I think this is a move to be more inclusive. If you are in C-USA or MTW you better have 3 top 25 wins out of conference and a boat load of public support behind you if you want in. The now big 5 conferences will always say how difficult there conferences are and that is reason enough to exclude anyone else.

  10. A 4 game playoff is still crap. They will still put up whoever they want.

  11. You could be right but at least it's baby steps. I would expect that each conference would be represented in the selection of the Top 4. Also, it doesn't destroy the bowls so we'll still have post-season play. It will reduce to a degree the power of the SEC and Big 10. It will reduce the stigma of "Little Five" conferences as there are no AQ conferences. If this works and there are six to eight powerhouses that are continually getting excluded then the playoff number could be raised to eight or sixteen. Baby steps; but at least advancing in the right direction.

  13. Yep, 2 years ago TCU finished the regular season undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation. Of course, they were not selected to play in the national title game, Unfortunately for TCU, Oregon and Auburn both finished the season 12-0. A win over #24 ranked Oregon St. early in the season and a blow out win over #6 Utah (47-7) at Utah did nothing to convince the computers that TCU played a tougher schedule than Oregon. The only ranked teams Oregon played were teams inside the PAC 10. Their most impressive win was a 52-31 win at home against a Sanford team that went on to a 12-1 record and an Orange bowl win. Their only road victory against a team that was ranked at the time of the victory was at #24 ranked USC, who ended up with 5 losses on the season. Of course, TCU ends up beating #4 ranked (and a very, very good) Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl to vindicate their claim to the national title game, while Oregon likewise plays #1 Auburn (undefeated in the SEC gets you automatic entrance into the title game, as it should) to a 22-19 game, vindicating their claim to the national title game. Wouldn't it have been interesting to see that TCU defense take on Cam Newton? What could have been...

  14. we certainly have alot of athleticism and excitement, but unless Williams shoots outside better..we'll have a bigtime achilles heal. In today's dribble, drive, and kick offenses, you have to have some decent perimeter shooters....not sure we have that. I would zone this team to death.

  16. Now with TAMU purchasing TexWes it will become more attractive to potential students because TAMU has the $$$ to hire better professors, provide better clinics, improve research facilaite etc... This is not good for UNT Law, which will already face fierce competition from SMU, UT, Baylor, Tech, TexWes, OU and even UHLC for sought after jobs in the DFW area. I have always felt bad for TexWes grads with their debt and bleak job outlooks. I don't want to feel that way for UNT students.

  17. Welcome to the Mean green Nation! WOW...another local kid wants to stay near home and play for the Mean Green! Maybe that old line about local kids NEVER giving the Mean Green serious consideration will finally die away. Something good must be going on at UNT these days to land these local guys. GREATNESS! I am really happy to see this...lots of local family and friends to help fill Apogee as well with these local guys. Way to go Coach Mac and Company...keep 'em coming. And, now hang on to all of them and get those names on the dotted line! EDIT...just corrected a word error...that's all...didn't want the Grammar Police calling! ha!

"The godfather of global warming lowers the boom on climate change hysteria" http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/22/green-drivel ..."Two months ago, James Lovelock, the godfather of global warming, gave a startling interview to msnbc.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly “alarmist” about climate change. The implications were extraordinary...." ..."(3) Lovelock mocks the idea modern economies can be powered by wind turbines. As he puts it, “so-called ‘sustainable development’ … is meaningless drivel … We rushed into renewable energy without any thought. The schemes are largely hopelessly inefficient and unpleasant. I personally can’t stand windmills at any price.” (4) Finally, about claims “the science is settled” on global warming: “One thing that being a scientist has taught me is that you can never be certain about anything. You never know the truth. You can only approach it and hope to get a bit nearer to it each time. You iterate towards the truth. You don’t know it......" Rick

  19. Just need to watch out for coach Jones' lazy, poor-recruiting coaches to start offering these guys around late January/early February. We need to have at least a 6-6 season this year, or we may experience a few Chase Walling/Sam Rice scenarios.

  20. In 2013, the A&M system will open the doors of a ABA-accreditted Law school in Fort Worth. A year later UNT will open an unaccreditted law school in Dallas. UNT Law will have to wait one additional year to apply for provisional ABA accredittation, and then another 3 before applying for full accredittation. While it doens't spell the end of UNT Law... in the current job market... I think you can do the math.

  21. Holy Crap! DMac wasn't lieing when he said he wanted to get started early this year. This is quite a roll they've been on. 2 6'5" OL kids. This has been a fun week in a long offseason. Sorry, but 1 RB(xfer from purdue), 1 WR/TE(xfer from texas), then all from HS: 1 dual threat QB, 1 WR, 2 OL, 1 Safety, 2 LB's... Nice.

  23. People do stupid stuff like this all the time regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, social class, political party, etc. While I don't agree with the guests actions while at the White House, I bet it won't be Friday before we hear another story of someone doing something idiotic like this. We could spend our time getting hung up on every act of idiocy or we could focus our time and efforts on the more important things on our plate right now.

  27. And rest easy, North Texas fans, Schilleci is already working on some of his Guyer teammates, including 2013 three-star wide receiver Ellis Jefferson and Jerrod Heard, who could end up being one of the top quarterback prospects in the country for 2014. “That’d be extremely cool if a lot of local kids started going there [uNT],” Schilleci said. “I was talking with Jerrod and E.J. today. I think Jerrod is going to their camp pretty soon, and I thought how cool would it be if we all went there and [helped establish UNT’s program].” This kid committing is cool in itself, but this other part makes me very happy in addition... Start chatting it up with some of the linemen. How about some DT's and DE's...I think there have been some really good ones from Denton over the past couple of years...

  29. by Associated Press WASHINGTON -- College football will finally have a playoff. Come 2014, the BCS is dead. A committee of university presidents on Tuesday approved the BCS commissioners' plan for a four-team playoff to start in the 2014 season. The move completes a six-month process in which the commissioners have been working on a new way to determine a college football champion. Instead of simply matching the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country in a championship game after the regular season, the way the Bowl Championship Series has done since 1998, the new format will create a pair of national semifinals. No. 1 will play No. 4, No. 2 will play No 3. The winners will advance the national championship game. The teams will be selected by a committee, similar to the way the NCAA basketball tournament field is set. There are still some details to work out, but all the decision-makers are on board. http://www.ktvb.com/...-160450985.html

  36. LCDs were developed in order to make computers portable. Its use in television largely started out with the same goal (lighter and MUCH more power efficient than tubes). Issues with refresh rates and resolution kept it from being a viable alternative for a number of years in larger televisions (why plasma was the drug of choice). These technologies were developed for use in the 1980s-1990s, and it had a lot more to do with the advent of home video, cable television programming, home computers, video game consoles, and the internet than it did with a change in broadcasting.

  37. ....but not as long as our tradition of apathy. You know, weight watchers says that it takes a "motivated" person 27 days to change a bad habit. How long do you think it takes a somewhat, or maybe not-so-motivated person? Especially since it's been a bad habit for decades?

  38. A 45lb. metal weight and a 45lb. rubber weight are typically the same size. Trust me, I run a health and wellness center and order these all the time. Now there are "training weights" that will be the same diameter but not the same thickness so they weigh less, but this is done to allow power lifts to be completed more easily.

  39. When did I say Louisville has an issue with ECU? Also, Louisville will leave the BE, it is not a question of if but when. Also, I am not sure you'd hang your hat on Rice or Tulane when it comes to the autobids, football is still king and AQ's are going away.
