  2. this is really tough... I've only seen our team play on hardwood... I'm not sure how they would react to playing on paper

  3. You do realize his dad is Terry Orr, former Redskin?

  4. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a big problem with this. His dad played for the Redskins. File this under "off-season complaints."

  5. Landing a legit prospect from Guyer is big for this program. The big part is not the actual player, but the door that has been opened to the Guyer program. Pretty huge.

  9. A tribute to his dad with the stadium he plays in as a background. Nothing at all wrong with that. "With a father who played nine years for the Washington Redskins, Zach Orr has football in his DNA. As one of UNT's outstanding student-athletes, Orr excels at making good plays and good grades. He made the Dean's List, the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Last year he was a top defender in the Sun Belt Conference and votes a team captain as a sophomore. Orr believes greatness is defined by the respect you earn from others"

  10. Wow that hit at 0:21 on hudl made me jump out of my chair. We have beat out WSU & La Tech head to head for two players so far. These are the type of schools we need to be able to beat out for recruits and I'm glad we finally have our ducks in a row to be able to do so. I can only imagine the affect a 6-6 or 7-5 season + the conference change would have on kids in the area, this is shaping up to be a good year!

  12. Should be a good move for him as he looks like a hitter. Some of the best plays he made on his highlight vid were blowing up the screen pass blocks.

  13. Best team I have seen was the 18-8 squad in the MVC days. Joe Hamilton and Crest Whitaker were the stars. Had no height but ran like no other NT team. Fast break and wall to wall press were traits of that team. The early Blakeley teams primarily recruited by Robbins and Tubbs certainly equaled the current team in talent. Fred Mitchell and Melvin Davis were both first team all state players ( 5 man teams not the bloated all state teams of today) of the highest class in Texas high schools. Kenneth Williams was a second teamer. Terry Bailey was an juco All American. Carl Jones was an excellent shooting guard who transferred to NT. Weasel Johnson the point was as quick as anybody at the point. Overall although Mitchell should be superior athletically to any of these players, the overall depth of this team was much better than the current team. The other team that comes to mind is the Gales one NCAA tourney team. Phillip Worrell, Morgan, Deon Hunter, Robinson were not bad. Morgan was a beast on the boards, Robinson and Hunter were super quick, and Worrell was the best overall player on the team. Not nearly as deep as the current team but they played together well. IMO, Joe Hamilton and Kenneth Lyons were the best players I've seen at NT. Mitchell is a physical freak, but he has to up his game to match those two. Hamilton was as good an outside shooter as I've seen at NT and was a great point with great quickness. Lyons just refused to lose, as intense as anyone I've seen at NT. Mitchell should become the best player and the team should be the best ever at NT. However, they have to substantially improve to accomplish these goals.

  14. I think the ad is clearly about Mean Green football, and the helmet does nothing to take away from that.

  18. The typical liberal response. When you have no argument, Make it personal. I haven't tried to vilify anything. I just posted a news story and thought it was funny how a group supposedly seeking tolerance was extremely intolerant of someone with opposite political views. Kinda like you and your comments about my sexuality, don't you think? This isn't a gay issue. This is a manners issue. You don't disrespect former presidents when you are extended an invitation to the White House. It's rude, uncivil, and just plain bush league, no matter what group you are or what former president you are disrespecting. It reflects poorly on the President and will cost him politically.

  20. Suck on that Leach!!! ... you get it? because Mike Leach is the coach of Washington St. and everyone said he would be recruiting Texas well... and... but... a leech is also a thing that likes to suck blood out of animals and people... and they are pronounced the same way... it's funny because it can mean 2 things...

  22. These are gay rights leaders invited to the White House by the current President. Yes, you are responsible for your guest, and, more importantly, the company that you keep, in life as well as in politics. Isn't it just a tad funny that leaders of a group DEMANDING tolerance can be so intolerant? Things get worse and worse for the re-election campaign.

  23. And to that (and everyone else) I say THIS IS NOT FEBRUARY. I used to have a supervisor who's first career was teaching English in middle school. One of her favorite quotes to anyone who was predicting future success in a project/assignment that she had given them was "There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip ". Her point was, people tell you something now, but you need to keep following up with them along the way. Now, don't get me wrong. I really like to hear about outstanding athletes who are saying that they want to attend North Texas. It creates some credibility for our program, when there had been very little in the past. However, eight months is a VERY LONG TIME......especially for teenagers.

  24. After spring football at colleges and high schools, we do hit a dry spell. We are enjoying a week of vacation before my son, Connor, a new incoming freshman has to report for second summer session and conditioning. He has been talking to some of the upper classmen that had to be there for first session. . .and he reports back to me some of the excitement around MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL. These boys along with Coach Mac cant wait to go to LSU.

  30. Nice stuff...just a perk for being in attendance and supporting the Mean Green at these events. It's really too bad that some folks just cannot attend. I know I have had to miss some of these events from time to time and have missed out on some of these perks myself. But, they are really cool stuff for the ones who can attend and support the event. You just never know when "stuff" will be passed out or what it might be....

  35. Wonder if China, Indonesia, and India know anything about global warming and carbon emissions? Last I heard they do a fair amount of manufacturing for the rest of the world.
    1 point
  36. Many people have said that while slowing of the AMOC (which undoubtedly IS affected by global warming) may not be the actual cause of rising sea levels. In fact, it's hard to state that factually when the AMOC affects Florida as well, and yet that areadoesn't show the accelerated rise in sea levels. So once again, the story is: yes, the sea levels on the North East are rising, and the rate is accelerated. The question is: why? Is it slowing of the AMOC? Tectonic shifts? Melting ice caps? Sallenger says AMOC slowing. Others say differently. Hopefully more conclusive research and hard data can lead to answers. No doubt in my mind that global warming is occuring, and that a reduction in carbon emissions at this point is an appropriate step to take, if only to alleviate the problem (whether or not man is the cause or even a significant contributor). Still, it doesn't make bad science into good science. We need to reduce carbon emissions. That doesn't mean that if I come up with an emissions-free air conditioning unit that works off of fairy dust and moonbeams that the US Government should subsidize my factory to make them, especially once they discover that the factory burns a mix of coal, bald eagle feathers, and blue whale blubber to manufacture the units. I don't think enough people draw the lines BETWEEN bad policy and bad economy. They'll complain about cuts to education or the increasing gap between the poor and the rich while at the same time lauding policies that throw otherwise meaningful money at proven losers. By the way, did you know that windmill blades aren't recyclable?

  38. Fact: Germany and Denmark, the European leaders in windfarms, have not reduced their carbon dioxide emissions, and have, in fact, had to build more gas and coal-fired power plants to ensure delivery of electricity that can't be reliably delivered from those windfarms.

  39. Haven't the Germans adopted a policy to completely phase out nuclear power while also adopting policies to reduce carbon emissions? Also, I don't think you should ignore that Germany imports a significant amount of Russian gas, possibly the most import-dependent country in Europe. And they're building even more pipelines from Russia, so I don't think, when it comes to energy development, one should regard Germany as particularly efficient. Now, you also have to consider that massive delays in Germany's offshore wind farms program have resulted in them having diesel-operated generators out in the North Sea now for months (years?). And just recently, they've admitted that further delays in building infrastructure threaten the already-dubious profitability of the wind farms themselves. It will be interesting to see if Germany will get out of this without having to now IMPORT nuclear energy from somewhere like France or increasing import rates of gas from Russia.

  40. I've followed the Mean Green since 1966 and the first three Blakeley years might have been the best ever. However, don't forget that it was not uncommon for us to beat nationally ranked teams in the old pit in the late sixties. I know we knocked off Bradley and Drake in Denton...both were nationally ranked at the time. Also, don't forget that the teams from the Missouri Valley in the late sixties were on par with the current ACC teams. It was not uncommon for four teams from the Valley in those days to be nationally ranked. Beating nationally ranked teams has not happened in a long time for us...the last one was Arizona State when Blakeley coached. Now we seldom even have any nationally ranked teams come to Denton, which is a big embarrassment, in my opinion. This upcoming team could be the very best...time will tell. While Tony deserves all the fanfare, don't forget that we had Lee Winfield in late sixties who went on to a long pro career with the Sonics and Joe Hamilton was on the Dallas Chapparal roster in the ABA and Kenneth Lyons was drafted by the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers. Lyons is also a member of the 10k club and he on a very prestigious list.

  44. And if the rumors about a much smaller media deal are true, a media deal closer to that of the MWC and C-USA, then there is virtually no reason to join the BE. Crossing my fingers for a BE meltdown that could realistically see USF, UCF, SMU, UH and Memphis back in C-USA.

  45. I am Ragpicker, and this is my first reply. I will be brief with my first comment and just say that I think we can beat Houston. I believe the series with them is tied right now, so a win would put us ahead again. Go Mean. More to follow.

  46. Go watch FC Dallas. They aren't very good this year but probably a good bunch of fans. Don't know how the FCD fans are but Sporting KC fans are some tailgating, yelling, hardcore fans. FCD plays Toronto on July 4 and ought to win that one. San Jose on Saturday, probably not as fun of a game to watch. Portland on the 21st very winnable. Galaxy on the 28th Donovan and Beckham. Colorado on August 11 and then its time for football. In the meantime, you've had some beer, had some practice tailgates and you are ready to go.
