Fact: Germany and Denmark, the European leaders in windfarms, have not reduced their carbon dioxide emissions, and have, in fact, had to build more gas and coal-fired power plants to ensure delivery of electricity that can't be reliably delivered from those windfarms.3 points

Best team I have seen was the 18-8 squad in the MVC days. Joe Hamilton and Crest Whitaker were the stars. Had no height but ran like no other NT team. Fast break and wall to wall press were traits of that team. The early Blakeley teams primarily recruited by Robbins and Tubbs certainly equaled the current team in talent. Fred Mitchell and Melvin Davis were both first team all state players ( 5 man teams not the bloated all state teams of today) of the highest class in Texas high schools. Kenneth Williams was a second teamer. Terry Bailey was an juco All American. Carl Jones was an excellent shooting guard who transferred to NT. Weasel Johnson the point was as quick as anybody at the point. Overall although Mitchell should be superior athletically to any of these players, the overall depth of this team was much better than the current team. The other team that comes to mind is the Gales one NCAA tourney team. Phillip Worrell, Morgan, Deon Hunter, Robinson were not bad. Morgan was a beast on the boards, Robinson and Hunter were super quick, and Worrell was the best overall player on the team. Not nearly as deep as the current team but they played together well. IMO, Joe Hamilton and Kenneth Lyons were the best players I've seen at NT. Mitchell is a physical freak, but he has to up his game to match those two. Hamilton was as good an outside shooter as I've seen at NT and was a great point with great quickness. Lyons just refused to lose, as intense as anyone I've seen at NT. Mitchell should become the best player and the team should be the best ever at NT. However, they have to substantially improve to accomplish these goals.3 points

Haven't the Germans adopted a policy to completely phase out nuclear power while also adopting policies to reduce carbon emissions? Also, I don't think you should ignore that Germany imports a significant amount of Russian gas, possibly the most import-dependent country in Europe. And they're building even more pipelines from Russia, so I don't think, when it comes to energy development, one should regard Germany as particularly efficient. Now, you also have to consider that massive delays in Germany's offshore wind farms program have resulted in them having diesel-operated generators out in the North Sea now for months (years?). And just recently, they've admitted that further delays in building infrastructure threaten the already-dubious profitability of the wind farms themselves. It will be interesting to see if Germany will get out of this without having to now IMPORT nuclear energy from somewhere like France or increasing import rates of gas from Russia.2 points

I'm just wondering if this is about someone's on-going dislike for Al Gore, or someone's dislike for cleaner air.....regardless of the cost. Because as a grandfather of two grandchildren, I applaud any attempt to provide my grandchildren with cleaner air. I'm soooo sorry that advocating cleaner air is more repugnant than a politician that falsely spent American lives and treasure over a false war. AND, if wind energy is so inefficient why are the Germans up there in the top three countries of the world using it. I can't think of a more educated and efficient country than Germany. If it had no value, they would not have invested so much into it.2 points

I can't name them because I don't think it happened. Unless they are referring to players that started on special teams, Lemmon was the only true freshman to start. Y'Barbo and Johnson were redshirt freshmen.2 points

I've followed the Mean Green since 1966 and the first three Blakeley years might have been the best ever. However, don't forget that it was not uncommon for us to beat nationally ranked teams in the old pit in the late sixties. I know we knocked off Bradley and Drake in Denton...both were nationally ranked at the time. Also, don't forget that the teams from the Missouri Valley in the late sixties were on par with the current ACC teams. It was not uncommon for four teams from the Valley in those days to be nationally ranked. Beating nationally ranked teams has not happened in a long time for us...the last one was Arizona State when Blakeley coached. Now we seldom even have any nationally ranked teams come to Denton, which is a big embarrassment, in my opinion. This upcoming team could be the very best...time will tell. While Tony deserves all the fanfare, don't forget that we had Lee Winfield in late sixties who went on to a long pro career with the Sonics and Joe Hamilton was on the Dallas Chapparal roster in the ABA and Kenneth Lyons was drafted by the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers. Lyons is also a member of the 10k club and he on a very prestigious list.1 point

So with Benford at the helm will we be recruiting more nationally?1 point

In short, "our earlier predictions are wrong, and some of the green energy tech isn't ready to go full scale, but we should still be taking care of our planet." All this aside, it's still not an excuse to take a giant dump on the planet. It's like getting a car from your parents - if you take care of it, it'll take care of you. Also, I'm all about switching to Thorium as a basis for electric power.1 point

Agree that there about 75 to 100 football players that most have identified as major college prospects and they seldom drop to the non-power conference level. But after that there are another 75 to 100 that are borderline major prospects and this is a group that NT is not getting many from. There are another 100 to 200 that will get a fb division ships that are largely fought over by the Belt and CUSA teams. NT has got to start getting the upper level of the third group and a few from the second to move up. See a lot of references to TCU as a model, but the facts are that they have always been at the upper level of the non-major conference teams and while their recruiting on paper has not been Big 12 level; they have consistently been above the rest of the Texas teams. They are a good team for NT to emulate as stated because they have excelled at finding those second level players that can play. I don't agree with your ratings per subscriptions view. The results are the same but they rate recruits by who recruits them. The better the team's rating wise, the higher they value the players they are going after. Another factor is I beleive they tend to be more kind to recruits that sign with teams which have team sites on their networks.1 point

I agree, the Hamilton and Whitaker duo made for a great team and were lots of fun to watch. If they had more of an inside presence they would have been sweet 16 material for sure.1 point

I would really love to hear from all the guys who were able to watch during the Missouri Valley days. Also, can someone post what our attendence records are for a game / season ?1 point

Was watching the game live when it happened. Still makes me cringe. SMU is an average-at-best team... which is why they are easy to overlook. They just seem to have a couple random games each season they decide to "get up" for, and you never really know which one that will be. I went to the one at UH last year, however... and was glad to see UH put them away in the second half. I'll be rooting for the coogs in ever game except ours. ha1 point

I would be interested in further discussion here. Maybe a separate thread dedicated to top teams. Seems like there have been plenty of "best player" discussions, but not enough about best teams.1 point

And if the rumors about a much smaller media deal are true, a media deal closer to that of the MWC and C-USA, then there is virtually no reason to join the BE. Crossing my fingers for a BE meltdown that could realistically see USF, UCF, SMU, UH and Memphis back in C-USA.1 point

Speaking of recruiting other states, I would like to see us establish a presence in Oklahoma as well. We have had success there in the past.1 point

Not only shouldn't he be charged, he should be given a medal. I don't know anybody that wouldn't do the same thing protecting their daughter, or in my case, Sandusky better be glad it wasn't my son. So, I'm tendin' bar there at Ecklund and Swedlin's last Tuesday, and this little guy's drinkin' and he says, "So where can a guy find some action? I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake." And I says, "What kinda action?" and he says, "Woman action, what do I look like?" And I says, "Well, what do I look like, I don't arrange that kinda thing," and he says, "But I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake," and I says, "Well, this ain't that kinda place."1 point

There might be a few schools that recruit Texas and recently lost Texas (ie MWC...tcu) that might be willing to come here twice (just so they can tell a recruit that they'll get to play twice in their home state). However, I'm with you GL2G, I doubt there are many, if any, that would be willing to go 2-for-1 with us right now. I do believe that we should try landing some home and homes with a few bigger schools that want to recruit in TX (Pac12, B1G, ACC)1 point

just for fun name some of those "lower tier teams" that would be willing to do that besides D1-AA1 point

I would expect the UH game to be much closer than last year. Heck, our team at the end of last year versus UH at the end of last year most likely would have been a better ballgame. It should be a good, entertaining ballgame for both teams. I hope the Mean Green nation turns out in full force a la SMU 2006!1 point

Well...here you go...at least my source...I read extensivly about WWII and have an pretty extensive book collection/library...the attributed quote is as follows: "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass". My source....The Prange files....late Gordon W. Prange...Chief Historian to Gen Douglas A. McArthur. You will find some "controversy" regarding this quote...folks who don't like US citizens owning guns have written aryticles claiming the quote is false. Interesting as the Prange Files pre-date such "controversy".1 point

I know, right? You know, like saying gas was at $4 a gallon under Bush when the economy was bad when what really happened is that gas fell to $1.50 a gallon when the economy went bad. F'n details, eh? I guess it was just Pres. Obama and his oil buddies that pushed gas back to almost $4 a gallon, right? In a terrible economy, right? Speaking of bearing false witness, you know good and well that there is absolutely zero proof that anyone lied. You know that there were many democrat members of the intelligence committee that viewed the same intelligence and made the same conclusion as Pres. Bush and his administration. I know you do because I know that you are a smart guy. So, who is really "bearing false witness" here? Either that, or you are a left wing whack job who thinks it was a grand republican only conspiracy to go into Iraq for... Lord knows what. Isn't it funny how people want to villianize people that don't think like they do. Some people used to villianize others for the color of their skin in the 50s. I think we had a word for that.1 point

Ya, and Bush and his stupid oil buddies had gas at almost $4 a gallon in a good economy. That Evil SOB. Oh, wait, gas prices were at almost $4 in a bad economy under Pres. Obama. But, that's OK, because he thinks like me, so he isn't evil like those republicans. You know, those people who don't think like me, and therefore are liars and evilness incarnated. Close enough?1 point

The dashboard camera is unblinking. But when gun laws are passed that allow citizens to protect themselves, there is always an outcry from anti-Second Amendment folks that law-abiding citizens will somehow take the law to the extreme and turn society into the Wild West. That's what they argued when Texas allowed conceal carry permits. They said fender benders at 4-way stop signs would escalate into a shootout. They said children would be slaughtered at amusement parks if someone accidentally stepped on someone's foot. They said the streets of Texas would run with blood. None of that happened, quite the contrary. Glen White, former president of the Dallas Police Association said "All the horror stories I thought would come to pass didn't happen. No bogeyman. I think it's worked out well, and that says good things about the citizens who have permits. I'm a convert." It truly underscores the difference between the right and the left... specifically, that people on the left do not trust their fellow citizens to behave in a responsible manner and as such require government supervision and guidance on all things, even if it requires stripping such a fundamental human right as Self-Defense.1 point
