The Houston QB David Piland played as a true freshman in 2010 after both Keenum and Cotton Turner got injured against UCLA. Terrance Broadway (now at ULaLa) started 1 game after the injuries, but Piland started the rest of the season. In 8 games, he had 2641 yards passing, 24 TDs, and 14 INTs. His 330 yards per game would have been good for #3 in the nation between Landry Jones and Brandon Weeden, but he needed to play in 1 more game to be counted in the official rankings. He redshirted last year. A lot of people say UH is going to be bad because Piland's team in 2010 went 5-7. Keenum would probably be good for at least a couple more wins, but the biggest problem that year was defense which was 103rd in yardage and 96th in points. Last year that improved to 62nd and 35th. Moving up 61 places in scoring defense is amazing. Most think the defense will be at least that good this year. Even if it stays in the top 50 in scoring defense, UH will be ok with our offense. In the 8 games Piland started, we averaged 34 PPG. If you're curious about SOS that year, Piland played 3 out of 8 games against teams that finished in the top 25. The starting Houston RB will be Charles Sims. He was the leading rusher for UH although he split a lot of time with Hayes and Beall. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry. He was also the 4th leading receiver for UH. In 2011, he was 1st team all CUSA. In 2009, he was CUSA freshman of the year. He had to sit out 2010 for academic issues, but in 2011 he made the commissioner's honor roll so hopefully he has that under control. UH did lose their top 3 receivers. There is a ton of talent though and we'll see who steps up. Leading the way will be Deontay Greenberry, the highly regarded recruit who changed his commitment on signing day from Notre Dame to Houston. There is a TON of speed at WR, so let's see if they can catch the ball. Considering our leading receiver Patrick Edwards was originally a walk on and 3rd leading receiver Tyron Carrier originally came to UH for track, it will interesting to see how 3 & 4 star recruits do. They have a lot to live up to. Helping Piland out will be an experienced OL where we return 4 out of 5 starters. UH had 2011 1st team, 2nd team, and honorable mention all conference linemen who are coming back. Losing Sammy Brown and Marcus McGraw on defense will definitely hurt, but we do have 8 starters returning on defense. Special teams will be solid with UH returning our punter and kicker. Interesting to see who will replace Carrier and Edwards on returns. Coaching staff? That is a little bit of an unknown. Levine is a first time college head coach, but then again, so were Briles and Sumlin. He looked great in his first game as head coach beating a ranked Penn State in our bowl. New OC is Mike Nesbitt. He was OC at SFA and West Texas A&M and was very successful at that level. We'll be running the same offense. New DC is Jamie Bryant. He was LB coach at UH last year. Before that he was DC at Vanderbilt.

Accurate arm. Strong enough to shrug-off 4A defenders. Fast enough to scamper for the 1st down, or create plenty of space on a rollout. Reminds me of a QB who played down the street from me a few years ago... James Franklin.

1. Doesn't UTSA have a large hunk of their campus within a mile or so of the Alamo Dome? 2. Doesn't that give UTSA a bit of a monopoly on football in San Antonio? 3. The city needs UTSA to draw well for that reason. 4. I agree. I was at our last home game. 5/6. They may pay $40,000 a game but they also don't have up keep, etc. But let's see, 5 home games x $40,000 = $200,000 x 390 years = $78,000,000. Might be a bargain. Predicting their attendance over the next several years is tough, but since they play in a 65,000 seat domed stadium in the 7th largest US city, they might do better than we think. We need to stop worrying about how UTSA is doing and worry more about UNT attendance. Nothing would please me more than to sit in a full house and watch us consistently beat them in football, basketball, and some day baseball.

How did a discussion on the significance of QB mobility regarding NFL titles turn into Fake judging someone's character? Until RGIII or someone proves the trend wrong, history speaks for itself. You can enjoy consistent NFL success with a running QB, but if you want to win the whole bologna you gotta be able to sit back and fling it around.

It all depends on arm, intelligence, and confidence of the QB, and has very little to do with the legs. I think RGIII will be fine because he has the above 3 qualities. Steve Young would have won 3 or 4 Superbowls if the most talented team in 20 years didn't happen to be in the same conference. He used his legs as a last resort. I think RGIII will be the same type of QB. As a matter of fact, Steve Young is a much better comparison than Vince Young.

In fairness, Vince Young and Robert Griffin come from different backgrounds as for as family life and support are concerned. Griffin has a father who is very involved in his life, while Vince Young was not so fortunate. Maybe you should do some reading up on Vince Young's life before passing judgement.

I remember Dan Marino in college. I always thought he had a strange throwing motion, which appeared very short (kind of like this kid) and quick. Because of his quick and short release, Marino seemed almost impossible to sack or knock the ball out of his hands. I am certainly not saying this kid is going to be Dan Marino. But, give me a tall QB who can get the ball out quickly any day. Congrats coach Mac. Wecome kid !

kid looks pretty good. decent arm strength. size is also a concern for me, but if he grows a couple inches and adds 15-20 pounds to his frame, i bet he'd pretty good. has he attended any of our camps? and isnt valley view that small school by gainesville?

It is usually a win-win, and in the long-run, the increased revenue generated by these developments far outweights any initial tax increases and in time can reduce property taxes.

I seem to recall them reporting in the beginning that one of the accusers/victims was one of Sandusky's grandchildren. And that's part of the reason everyone made such a stink about him getting house arrest - that he would be able to sit with his family, some of whom were also victims. Did the grandson not testify or choose to pursue the charges? Either way, Sandusky deserves life in jail without parole.

A similarity to the Zimmerman situation perhaps? Amazing how reality sheds light on things the press and public seldom see....trials and in depth investigations can be interesting things and lead to interesting outcomes for the press and public when the real facts and details start emerging. That's a good reason to let the courts do their thing BEFORE getting all up and arms and doing, saying or printing stupid things....just sayin....
