  1. This is making the rounds on the net. Pretty good read, IMO. full blog post

  2. This says a lot: I think this season it's very possible we see a worse win/loss total than that of last year. But I don't think that means we aren't making progress. Just always assumed it would be year three under McCarney that we'd see the most improvement. We were in a bad, bad place. But we've got plenty to be excited about and recruiting should only improve. Either way, I'll be traveling to Baton Rouge and Houston, and Denton as many times as the pocket book will allow!

  3. a good year exiting the SB and hopefully getting a bowl invite all prior to moving to CUSA....the numbers could double. AND in another blog mentioning qb depth...that could be fixed as well. wins cure many ailments.

  4. I've got the same concerns as 90. QB and DT are not great areas to have lack of depth. What's scary? Now look, it's well known that I'm no Todd Dodge apologist, but had he not "stealth" signed Thompson, where would we be? It's hard to believe that we couldn't even unearth some "diamond in the rough" like Thompson to sign this year. And, DT, I've posted several times...I just don't get this at all. McCarney was a defensive line coach at Florida, winning a national title there. This has had no pull at all in landing DT recruits. None. I don't want to be a pessimist (again), but 5-7 was really nice with all the experience we had last year; a surprise to many, if not most. The year, 90 is right - loss of Thompson or even one DT is going to put us in a huge hole competitively. I don't pee my pants, but I do worry about it somewhat between the mortgage payments, raising kids, and helping run the family business. I can't even catch a break from life in spectator sports. Grapenuts.

  6. I stand corrected. I didn't realize that UTSA was up against such stiff competiton for San Antonio's sports dollar. However, Incarnate Word University was founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1881. By definition playing them would be playing against the sisters of the poor.

  11. I was able to attend the UNT team camp yesterday as I coached a HS team during the event. I would say that I was impressed with Benford and staff, but that would be an understatement. first of all, I remember benford being in pinkston to recruit tony mitchell. i know he would get out and recruit, and i think that tony's interest in marquette was primarily due to benford. with respect to the camp - benford was constantly engaging with the coaches and asking about them, their teams, offered to share any drills or help he could give them, etc. he very impressive and engaged. the 1 hour practice that the UNT team went through was high paced, purposeful, and engaging. benford was constantly coming over to talk to the HS coaches to explain what they were doing, and he was also very involved in coaching the kids to the point where he was sweating his a$$ off by the end of the practice. he also had tony mitchell speak to the HS kids, and he did that on purpose to force tony to be accountable. he has to live up to the standard he is setting. and then you have a veteran like rob evans out there getting after the kids, and bringing his years of knowledge to the staff. benford did one thing that really impressed me, besides being engaging and extremely knowledgable. he told the coaches that tony averaged 4 turnovers per game, and they were going through drills that would force tony to work on his foot work and be purposeful. the things that keep tony from complete domination are turnovers and fouls. benford has already identified these issues and is addressing them and coaching tony like he needs to be taught. i told tony that he needs to listen to those guys because they know what they are talking about. benford discussed their offensive philosophy, primarily to get a target # of post touches. I think this should be a beneficial strategy for this team with the talent on the roster. with paint touches and good player and ball movement this team should be virtually unstoppable in the sun belt. benford stated that all practices will be open. I think benford was a fantastic hire who can take this program to another level with the move to CUSA.

  12. He has been missing a lot of calls lately. Hopefully this rest will fix it, but there's been ground rule doubles he has called homeruns and several other headscratchers. Hope he puts his health above everything else. At the very least, Tag should send him some cookies while he is out.

  16. Update on the link provided claims he suffers from severe migraines. If so I can empathize and they have been known to cause me to choose bizzare words in the middle of a sentence as well. Even when taking the proper medication it can cause that. Feel for him. If that is indeed the case it is a temporary problem only (say a day or 2 max) in my experience and should not be any long term effect. I'd suggest he address it (explain the condition) and sort of apologize for the confusing comments. Should clear it up. Will be interesting to see how the Rangers organization deals with it.

  21. Actually this is "we-might-have-to-get-off-our-collective-asses-and-actually-do-something-to-support-North Texas-at-a-higher-level- and -that-might-be-too-inconvenient" rhetoric. After all, doing relatively nothing and complaining lots is an old North Texas tradition. Now, what did I do with those wrinkled $100 bills..................

  22. This is the sickest man that I've heard of in a long time. As a father of a baby boy, I would kill him myself if I found out that he touched my kid. Furthermore, that goes for all you sickos defending him. Touch my kid, and you're done. too much? too aggressive? sorry, I get worked up about this.

  24. NT was very bad for seven years, you could write the same column for about any position. Many teams recruit QB's for other positions, many of those cited in the article were never seriously considered as QB's. In fact you could argue that Dodge and Vizza were about as good as NT has ever recruited. Vito cites Hall as the last good QB, strange that he was also part of the last good teams that NT fielded. Hall did not have great QB skills but he fit in very well with that team which relied mostly on a running attack. It is only conjecture but I doubt Hall would have been any more successful than the others with the late DD and Dodge teams. I would have liked to see either Vizza or Dodge play with the 2002 and 2003 teams, I think their QB evaluations would have went way up. NT has had recent football problem and QB was only a part of it.

  25. Gotta think that QB recruits see this right? The door is wide open to at least come in and compete right away and probably start your RS Freshman or true Sophomore year... I bet we get at least 1 good QB recruit in this class, if not 2.

  26. The road schedule featuring three teams with combined 36-5 records in 2011 starts us behind the eight ball. I foresee either a 5-7 or 6-6 record in 2012 with finishing in the middle of the Sun Belt pack. A little easier 2013 non conference schedule of Army and Ball State at home with Georgia and Ohio on the road should be a good start for us going into CUSA which I also feel will be DMac's break out season. On a side note....it is irritating once again to see below the Sunbelt article the "Ranking All 124 Stadiums" article.....I have been to ULM, FIU, Ball State, WKU, Ark St, Rice, Troy, Southern Miss, SMU, Northwestern and UTSA's stadiums.....Apogee is far superior than all those venues ranked higher than our great palace.

  28. Having municipalities pay for pro sports facilitates is one of the biggest scams ever. What has the average Arlington resident got out of having two major sports franchises? On another note, what has Dallas lost by not having the Cowboys. I guess there is a little prestige that goes with having a pro franchise, but they seldom spur the economic growth they are touted to. Look at the area where Texas stadium was in Irving, they really benefited from the Cowboys. Victory Park has been mostly a failure. Subsidizing extremely wealthy people and particularly in these times seems far from a function of government.

  29. People should go back and view the unedited version of the video. The jury saw it, and it was the main reason for the acquittal. The public didn't, because in the pre-Internet era, the public only saw what the media allowed them to see. While the full video by no means fully exonerates the officers, it provides a context that wasn't given in the initial and follow up media reports in 1991.

  31. It does sometimes seem as if we plan it that way. I mean, can't we get somewhere close to the same paycheck at Arizona State as we get at LSU? I don't mind playing Texas because they definitely have their off years and I want to finally knock the MoFo's off, but playing LSU or Bama more than once every couple of decades makes little sense to me.

  32. I think the same thing could be siad about when Coach Aston departed so quickly...I know, i know...hwer dream job, but still.....looks to me like Coach Petersen is a "keeper" as well if the early returns are any incication. To me, it looks like UNT hasd a fine new set of BB head coaches. Pretty darn excited about the season to come...both men's and women's BB.

  33. Q: What happens when a team wins a BCS National Championship?. A: 1) They get a nice crystal football trophy, 2) They get to travel to the White House and meet the President, 3) They get to open the next season at home against North Texas.

  36. Seriously the mental gymnastics you perform to justify your skewed view of politics, the media, and economics just gives me tiredhead. FOX did not report that American families lost 40% of wealth... nearly EVERY news outlet reported the story. FOX did not report that Obama attended a madrassa... Insight magazine reported that. FOX did not report that Obama was born in Kenya, but guests on Fox (and other networks) have said it. Skewed? Yes. Do they "report" lies? No. I am not a fan of FOX, but I can spot a regurgitating Internet drone like you a mile away. Think for yourself.

  37. Way to early to put Benford in the NT Hall of Fame, but he has been ultra impressive to this point. There is a strong possibility that NT has made a coaching upgrade.

  39. I don't know. I think the fact that we were in competition with Penn St for a recruit kinda shows how far they have fallen. Plus, Penn St. Is only that kid's "dream school" until OU, UT, or Florida offers. Typical recruit speak. I am proud that UNT has never been investigated, but that sure didnt get us anywhere when it came to the APR appeals process. The NCAA is worthless and borderline corrupt as an enforcement agency.

  43. Look, we all know KRAM is great and does more before 8 a.m. than most fans do in a lifetime. Can we focus on how Norm seems a bit testy whenever Mr. Bass overpraises Strasburg and keeps mentioning his tailor-made pitching schedule during his debut? EDIT: I called him Stanton. Eff me.

  44. Its always nice to be reminded that KRAM knows exactly how good of fans we all are.... based on monetary donations and attendance to games he schedules against UNT's graduation. Since everyone's circumstances are identical, his parameters are flawless!
