  6. Just a thought, here. Any chance of bad blood over the Odoh decommit? Maybe a phone call to LSU by someone in the know on the degree deal? This is complete conjecture on my part, but college athletics is a dirty ass game.

  9. Today is D-day folks. Take a moment and stop and think about just what this day in our history means. Many young soldiers (on both sides) fought and died on this day. Lots of families and friends lost loved ones never to return home. I have been to Normandy and I have walked those beaches...Omaha, Juno, Red, Gold, etc. I have seen the cliffs and I have walked down in the bomb craters and peered out of the gun emplacements. Let me tell you, it is impossible to do that with a dry eye. Take a stroll through the American cemetery, the British cemetery, etc. at Normandy and you get a feel for the scope of this invasion, and the great loss of life as a result. People, we owe a big debt to these brave young soldiers....at least take a moment today to remember, to thank them and to thank all our veterans and soldiers where ever they may be. Mat God bless and keep them one and all.

  13. Well, interesting. And, the kid and his family, seem to me, to be making a quality decision. UNT, if it keeps up with him during this next year, may well have a shot after he gets his 2-yr degree from Scottsdale. His reported grades while at Kansas seem plenty good enough. Now, the question is...what happened to the compliance folks at Kansas to let this sort of thing happen? Don't they monitor hours and course loads? Hmmm...maybe he left the program (however or whatever) and that let his academics up to him...I have no clue about that. But, as Vito pointed out...seems like a good kid. UNT would perhaps be a nice spot for him after JuCo. It may be that the folks at UNT knew this all along and were just hoping he's sit out a year and sign with UNT and get the class thing in order. Who knows. BUT, make no mistake about it. UNT is going into the season with a fine QB in young Mr. Thompson. I have no worries (other than injuries) regarding the QB spot. Yep, Coach Mac and company can now look elsewhere to sign a QB for UNT. Appreciate the "rest of the story" from Brett.

  27. The issue can't be framed as a single problem, it is a multitude of problems. Lack of parental involvement or, as the cartoon above somewhat accurately depicts, a lack of sense of responsibility or accountability by students and parents is a growing problem. Teachers unions which protect bad teachers and collective bargaining contracts that protect weak teachers while disallowing the rewarding of good ones. Up to 4 layers of fat between monies collected from taxpayers to actual spending directly on education (IRS, DOE, State Education Board, ISD) all of which has far more administrative and non teaching capacity than needed, and is often duplication of effort. Parents don't have the option to get their kids out of failing schools, and failing schools have little to no motivation to improve. Teaching has become focused on passing standardized tests, not gaining knowledge, practicing skills and learning. ...and that is just the tip of the iceburg.

  28. If only Wisconsin didn't have to battle those unions. Then they'd be able to double class sizes, cut teaching jobs, and close down schools like we did in Texas. Yeah, big win alright. Big win for corporate bigwigs.

  29. The maintanence man at work today asked what the latest was at UNT. I told him about Forrest and mentioned that they took 4 weeks to uncover what we could not uncover in 4 years. He is a native of Louisiana and said "What makes you think it was LSU that found it out? They are in the SEC man, not the Sunbelt."

  34. As for public education, I'm all for sensible funding. Texas itself spends more per student ($8908/year) than Denmark, Norway, France, Italy, or Germany - who all beat the snot out of us in test scores. What's the problem, because it sure as hell isn't money!!?? But liberals would have you believe conservatives hate education, which itself is just laughable.

  44. I've got a good friend at work, who has a master's from Troy. He did the whole thing online from here in Texas. In fact he has never taken any pride in that degree, and never comes up to watch Troy when they play us. I think he only got the thing to qualify for a raise, and Troy was the easiest and cheapest program avalible. It's sad that Forrest is being taken down by a degree that has no impact on his talent as a coach. What a bad choice. I do agree, how is it that we didn't catch it? Did he claim to earn it after he was already hired by UNT?

  45. We are all gong on speculation at this moment. The sad part of this if true, is I doubt anyone cared if he had a masters or not. They do care about lying on a resume. I never thought he was ever considered for the NT hc job, but it had nothing to do with character. It takes a lot more than a positive relationship with players to be a good coach and he had little experience beyond recruiting that I could determine. He won't be out of a job long. Schools pay guys like Forrest for recruiting not coaching or ethics.

  46. This happens all too frequently. Most AD's and HC's don't care and don't check. I have had several instances where this had to be corrected. If this is true, it was probably the result of someone outside of the athletic department discovering it. A number of years ago, UALR was caught with an academic administrator claiming to have a PhD and not having it. It was an interesting, but long, story on how this was caught. I know of another case where a guy was caught claiming to have two PhD's. The funny thing was he did have one and had no need of having a second one. You would be surprised how difficult it is sometimes to get official transcripts for coaches.
