I hacked into my ex girlfriend's email the other day and couldn't believe it -- she was totally still talking about me. She really needs to get over me, grow up and move on.11 points

"Odds are, it's a combination of both (yes, that is speculation, not a FACT). " So, which is it? If the odds are in its favor (which would imply more evidence leaning one way as opposed to the other) then it's more than speculation. I've never seen an DA stand up and say "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we will present a collection of evidence proving this man killed thes other man. At least that's our speculation." I think the bottom line is that you are pissed that this case is inflammatory and that Zimmerman has received a bad rap...so you're playing the part of the contrarian to prove a point. What that point is, I don't know.4 points

Out of curiosity what part of my statement was an opinion? I simply stated Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin. Where is the opinion in that? I frankly don't have a dog in this fight and what is with your liberal comment? You don't really know me so you're assuming I'm this crazy little liberal. Truth is that even many of my hardest of cores conservative friends would have liked to see him arrested and in jail. This has nothing to do with being a liberal or non liberal. Give me a break.3 points

6-37 and there are still Dodge apologists lurking out there? That arrogant, thick-skulled, know-nothing actually had me rooting against UNT in hopes that the ever increasing loss total would accelerate his departure. I couldn't stand watching Dodgeball. I don't know what it was, but it sure as hell wasn't football. So what happens? Dodge finally, mercifully gets the hell out, Chico steps in, and with the players that the apologists loved to call a bare cupboard, he makes a couple plays that aren't "OK! Everybody stare at the sideline like a bunch of drugged out deer in hunting season and go long!" and he wins a couple games! Dodge was awful here, he was nothing to write home about at Pitt, and Southlake continues to win without him. I could care less if three of his recruits are talented enough to get NFL tryouts. In fact, that he had talent like that and still lost...badly...in the Sunbelt, makes him look like even a worse coach in my eyes. Now we've got a genuine college coaching staff who can count all three of their time-outs without a calculator and a sideline math tutor in a genuine college football stadium going into a genuine college football conference. I couldn't be happier and am pleased as punch to look forward instead of trying to rationalize the past.3 points

Good point, Deep. I had not thought of that comment in that way. My comments below are not directed in any way toward you. When I was not a "Gramps" (when I was in my early-to-mid-30s) my wife and I debated extensively giving the grand sum of $1,000 a year to the athletic department at NTSU because we loved the university and the athletic potential that Hayden Fry had magically flamed. But honestly we could not afford to contribute 1/9th of my paycheck and so, rationally, we instead contributed a minimal amount of money. It was the right decision, and it was a good decision for our situation in life at the time. So from my time at NTSU (1970s) until two years ago we, along with the rest of the football fans of our university, attended football games at a stadium that represented the sacrifices of our university's fans back in 1952 who were old enough, and established enough, to be able to significantly contribute to the construction of Fouts Field. Fast forward to 2010- 2011: WE are now called "Gramps" by someone on this board from a later generation (sarcasm or not, a totally unappreciated comment) who has halfway suggested that the modern era should be this board's focus. Well Sir, let me remind you of this fact: Along with the university students who voted for the student fee, Apogee Stadium EXISTS TODAY because of the folks on this board who you are calling "Gramps"; a group of posters who generally want nothing more than to sit in a comfortable football stadium; to be able to discuss and enjoy the memories of their younger days at NTSU/UNT; to work for a wonderful future for UNT athletics and academics; AND to put their considerable financial assets where THEIR mouth's are...... Forty years ago I could not justify giving $1,000 a year to the NTSU Athletic Department! TODAY I, and many of the other "Gramps" on this board - and other "Gramps" who have never accessed GMG.COM - have given, and are giving, many many times over $1,000 a year for the construction of Apogee Stadium and the many other athletic and academic needs of this university - and we will continue to do so on a yearly basis. Let me remind you of one more thing: We have spent the past 40 + years in old Fouts Field. Many of us have helped construct a stadium that maybe, just maybe, we will be able to enjoy for another 10 years or so before we become infirmed or simply die. YOU, on the other hand, because of the generosity of the students and the "Gramps" both on and off this board, are going to be able to enjoy Apogee Stadium for decades. It seems to me that your response regarding our enjoyment via board postings in re-living the NTSU/UNT glory days (and athletes) of our past were way over-board. It would seem to me that you would respect the years of service and devotion given to NTSU/UNT by these many people on this board in the same way that WE respect the younger generations on this board that are today providing service and devotion to our university - even though they may be too young to financially contribute at a high level today, and even though they tend to make what we feel are inane comments on the GMG board. But these "Gramps" are contributing to your future enjoyment with the expectation that ten-to-thirty years down the road you will be there to replace our monetary and service contributions for the sake of future generations who will be singing "Glory to the Green". You, sir, respect our past and we will respect your future. Gramps2 points

Better than what other coaches? People love to demonize Darrell Dickey but I'd put the NFL careers (although short) of Patrick Cobbs, Kassell, Taylor Casey and Awasom u against any Dodge recruit any day. Tue Doge era was an unmitigated disaster. Period.2 points

Green P1, you and and handful of your pals are real smart asses now arent' you? (Did you like that tricked-up sarcasm, Emmitt)? I like this board more and more....with all the subtlety and all. Makes me think we have some real intellectuals among our crowd. I know it has its share of smart asses who don't like to talk about any North Texas athletic era other than their own. And I don't take very lightly any insinuation that I'm out to kill anyone. Are you just plain assed dumb or stupid for suggesting such, Green P1? I don't find any humor in that--tricked up sarcasm or not. I might want to put a boot in their ass, but that would just about do it. Harry, please tell the Romper Room section of GMG.com to change their diapers because they're beginnning to really stink it up on this board and they have already caused another group of true fans and supporters who used to be regulars on this board for years to basically leave for another message board quite frankly; or even if still a member of this board to not post as much as they used to and that because of this little clique on this board. And you have here a clique who seem to want to remind all just how awfully smart they are and how god'awful lucky North Texas is to have them, yet hijacking a thread most of which are informative or turning a thread that was going along quite smoothly with positive posts from several respondents into something negative because it just didn't suit them (or their era as UNT students) is a most unusual way for this little group to get get noticed which i guess is a main priority for them. It's time we have an offensive offensive line... if you know what I mean. Our guys should not only be big, strong, skilled and mean, but maybe consider not shaving until after the bowl game and only bathing in the pond outside of Apogee. The stench can only help when they line up against the equally smelly swamp people of Baton Rouge, then become an advantage against other inferior opponents.1 point

I consider Steele's magazine (Phil Steele's College Football 2012) to be the best of the bunch. He has been more accurate than most over the years that I have been reading him. Overall, he has mixed optimism about the Mean Green this year. He clearly thinks Dan is a very good coach, but the loss of Dunbar and some key defensive players give him some hesitation. Also, our brutal out of conference schedule. He states that "4 of his 9 sets of power ratings call for bowl eligibility, but they do not make my MIP (most improved program) list with LSU, K-ST and Houston on their non-conf slate". One other thing, he finished the article before he learned that Stojkovic was no longer with the team, so Michael was still listed as a starter at linebacker. The magazine also went to press, obviously, before the CUSA decision was made.1 point

I agree with 97. I no longer care about what goes on in Pony land. I don't support them. I don't have any connections to them. As far as I'm concerned, they are not relevant to anything we do. Any interactions with SMU fans/students have left me shaking my head in disbelief at the arrogance, haughtiness, and pretentiousness they portray. In fact, we could cancel the whole football series coming up and I'd be just fine with it. Not sure why we even consider them a rival excluding geography. Aren't rivals supposed to have a healthy mix of hate and RESPECT? I don't respect their collective attitude and would rather not even be associated with them. Just my thoughts. GMG!1 point

Agree. And the scene evidence will bear out whether ZImmerman's story is accurate or not. The problem is people on here, in the news media, and in America in general, don't seem to care about this evidence. They either want him in jail or want him to walk free. Idiocracy at it's finest.1 point

I know hindsight is 20/20, but I really believe that if Dodge had gone with an experienced OC and DC things would have been so much different. Not saying we would have been unstoppable, but I think we would have been closer to a 500 team (IMO)1 point

As a grad of Robert E. Lee it hurts me to wish him well But if he goes Green, then all is good1 point

Which staff? And how do you know this? Because I have always said that all Dodge had to do was retain the defensive staff of DD (at least the DC) and things would have been much different for his tenure.1 point

I was at that game too. I also had that slow-motion feeling of despair.1 point

Nope. As you well know, take two sides of a story, and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Point is, we don't know. And as I said in that post, it was speculation on my part. We don't know the evidence that matters. That is not being a contrarian, that is just a plain and simply fact. Way too many seem perfectly OK in determining Zimmerman's guilt based on what have proven to be extremely biased media reports. I say wait and see what the evidence shows. Does it worry me that one DA's office has looked at the evidence and chosen not to prosecute, only to have a politician hand over that DA's office responsibilties to a special prosecutor appointed by said politician? Absolutely, as it shoud you. Does it bother me that said appointed special prosecutor refused to take the case to a grand jury, where an anonymous grand jury panel could have reviewed the evidence and given a ruling based on that evidence without the scrutiny of the learing and highly prejudiced press? Like any other case would have been treated? Absolutely, as it should you. I don't know Zimmerman, so really no reason to be pissed about the case being "inflammatroy". As far as Zimmerman receiving a bad rap, maybe, maybe not. Again, we don't know the evidence. What I do find ammusing is so many of the holier-than-thou social liberals (not directed at you at all, Emmitt) that are so quick to want this man in jail without having one fact to support their already guilty verdict. I'll ask you a question. If what Zimmerman said actually occurred, is he, under Florida law, guilty of a crime (You know this will be proven or disprovent through actual crime scene evidence.)?1 point

Funny how many tout how important Rivals' star ratings are for our recruits, C. Feldt was a 4 star, yet dismiss this later. I didn't think he would dominate, but I did have high expectations based on his rating comjng out of HS and being recruited and signed by Arkansas.1 point

Actually, we don't know whether Tayvon Martin is dead today because of the actions of George Zimmerman or the actions of Trayvon Martin, or a combination of both. Odds are, it's a combination of both (yes, that is speculation, not a FACT). And we don't have any of the evidence to determine whether this taking of a life is a crime. They are 2 different things, you know. But you keep on prejudging.1 point

There are lot of intriguing players and for NT to be successful a lot are going to have to significantly step up their games. Picking one, I am going to go with Phillips; the forgotten lb. He had good freshman and sophomores years and I think will finish out big as a senior. Always has been a big play producer, and I look for him to be one of the best players on the team.1 point

Good link. Hayden was a sly salesman before being a slick coach. I don't remember him ever saying anything that would burn any bridges (past or potentials). I want to read that book, though. I need more insight into him. Regardless, he's probably not the most reliable source when it comes to UNT athletic history.1 point
-
First an off-field incident. Then he gets kicked off team for missing a meeting. If he was expendable at Kansas, which is not exactly USC, why would we want to build our team around him? It's not like he was a 5 star player. He is a 3 star player. Wy not find another 3 star player with less baggage?1 point

We some day want to be thought of as a great program just like the UT's the A$M's, and yes, the TCU's and even the SMU's of the world. All of them HAVE a history, and all of them CELEBRATE their history. This is just a good time of the year to remind the newer members of the family that we too have a history.........and it wasn't all bad. Interesting and ironic that this threat, and some of the negative comments happened around Memorial day.1 point

Putting the word domination in quotes doesn't erase the fact that it happened. Spin it with stats however you like, but a blowout of a regional Big XII opponent will always be a good memory for me...especially with the way their fans acted that day. Good job ignoring my mention of the Cincy win too, those guys were C-USA co-champs that year and lost by a field goal to Ohio State.0 points
