Right? What a jerk this kid must be for taking his time with such a life-altering decision. Clearly he's only thinking about himself, his family and what's best for both when in reality he ought to be much more concerned with what he's doing us.7 points

Perhaps one of the less obvious things to be excited about is Jacob Holmen's senior season. He was absolutely incredible at times during the tournament. If he continues to improve, look out...4 points

You know, there is something rather off-putting to me about this. I guess I'm still stuck back in the days when one of our greatest QB's of all time, Jordan Case, wrote a letter to Hayden Fry asking him for the opportunity to walk on and win a scholarship. To me, Burgland is still in that nebulous category of "great potential" and "great ratings" by (alleged) experts. I seem to recall a highly thought of WR who recently came through our system (wearing #14) that had "great potential". I'm with the (late) great Don Meredith on this "great potential" thing. He used to say that "potential" just meant that you hadn't done anything yet.3 points

Different reports all over this place on this one. Anywhere between $4-13 million per team per year. Honestly, that sounds like a fair range to be in, and regardless of what some would say here, even the lower estimate is a significant upgrade from what we were making in CUSA. We'll see how this goes, this is the first report to really toss out low-ball figures.2 points

If we don't get a safety or INT on every defensive snap, RV needs to be fired and forced to watch 24 straight hours of commercial-free My Little Pony. The pressure is on to win yesterday.2 points

I so agree with you on that! Yes, I am one of the "older guys" who still reads the hard copy edition. I HATE on-line versions of the papers...you have to scroll around, the screens often are not big enough so you fish around and I have found the online versions of many papers are not as complete as the printed versions. My wife likes to use the I-Pad, but for me IT SUCKS. I want to relax in the morning or evening with the paper and a cup of coffee if in the morning and a beer or soft drink if in the evening. I know the fact is that hard copy editions are "going away" and I'll have to change, but I do find that many younger folks have very little idea about the news of the day unless it is not something someone posts on Facebook or some link to some article that someone sends them. The idea that young people in mass read the news on-line is an urban (and rural myth). On-line readers seem to not read the entire paper...all sections...as do most hard copy readers. BUT, the times they are a changin', and soon all the hard copy editions will be gone. Sad, but the handwriting is on the wall, and we will all need to adjust to the "new reality". For me, it will just not be the same....sadly!2 points

NPR to and from work...Facebook and iGoogle feeds while at work. I also think we "younger people" are a more social generation and pertinent topics of the day are oft discussed over beverages at a local or on the front porch after work. That said, I will never not buy (or poach a pre-read copy from my local coffee shop) the Sunday Times.2 points

My question is will less than $8 million TV revenue per Big East school (if that's what is is) really be worth their having left CUSA and the MWC short term/long term; that is, in light of each school's mens and women's entire varsity sports programs that will be flying cross country 1,000 miles (give/take) for matchups? For SMU, that would probably be money that their wealthy alums would have normally fronted for SMU athletics so for that elite group it would be a welcome windfall to their school which would ultimately save them some big bucks. And with most of the Big East schools due to their locations will virtually have no regional rivalries for well more than half of their home football schedules which we know from first hand experience can affect a school at the turnstiles. A financial hit at the gate will create another dent in some Big East athletic budgets while their fans stay away in droves due to non-traditional and unfamililar opponents that will be on their conference home schedules. I mean come on now....UCONN/SMU at Ford Stadium? If CUSA members get close to $2 or $2.5 million per school (which is probably liberal numbers for what we've read thus far); but if each CUSA schools receives that yet in our more regional rivalry environment, does that suffice for what we need to do comparative to Big East schools who could get $8 million (give or take). (I think most of the schools from CUSA/MWC left for the Big East thinking more in line of at least $14-16 million per year truth be told). Any of you mathmateicians have any ideas on this? __________________________________________________________ Selected excerpts from the CBS'Sports.com article with the full article listed at the link at bottom of page. The Big East's best hopes are that ESPN and NBC/Comcast get in a bidding war to drive the price up. But industry sources said network executives wouldn't go beyond "the 60s [million dollars]." Is it possible those executives are minimizing the Big East's value as part of a multimillion-dollar poker game or that's the actual worth of the league? The Big East is getting ready to find out A $60 million deal per year (as speculated by CBSSports.com's sources, slightly better than their low end) would be worth $4 million each for the 10 full members; $3 million each to the four football-only members; and $1 million each to the eight non-football members. Based on a future 14-member football league (in 2015, the Big East adds Navy as a football-only member and has plans to add a 14th school, preferably Air Force or BYU) and an 18-member basketball league, the media rights deal would be worth the following amounts per school annually: A $130 million deal per year (as speculated by Pilson) would be worth $8.66 million each for the 10 full members; $6.5 million each for the four football-only members (Boise State, San Diego State, Navy and TBA); and $2.16 million each for the eight non-football members The entire CBS'Sports.com link http://www.cbssports...of-its-lifetime1 point

It seems pretty iffy to me whether or not this move will turn out to be financially worthwhile for smu and Houston, but I suspect their major motivation is in the hope that moving up a peg (or at least a partial peg) will improve their chances of landing a spot in the Big 12 at some point. Of couse they're going to have to quickly win big in the money sports, hope their new conference doesn't fall apart, and regularly fill up their stadiums for there to be much of a chance of this happening. I suspect that is going to be a tall order for SMU in particular. Football only probably would have been their best scenario IMO.1 point

Why can't GL2Greatness have a hard on for Western Governors University of Texas instead of us? He could argue the merits of an online degree. It is the Online University for Texas after all.1 point

I don't think anyone is questioning that, but it ks the manner in which it is being either conducted or portrayed. He appears to be a little self centered in all of this. Hope that is how he is being portrayed.1 point

Alzee is the most underrated player on the team IMO. I don't think he will have big numbers with the team next year but he will be the one of the most consistent players on the team. He can do it all, play defense, drive to the basket, and his outside shoot is improving. A tall guard with great quickness, he saved the team last year playing the point; but should be a better player at the off guard.1 point

I think I am most excited to just see this team get on the court and what the atmosphere will be in the Pit. Everything about this team points to it being extremely fun to watch. Looking forward to that.1 point

I guess my answer to the question is...Coach Benford. I've talked to the man and came away with the same feelings that I have about Dan McCarney. He exudes enthusiasm, confidence and experience. With his mentor, Robb Evans, at his side I don't think that he'll fail. He's Johnny Jones with excitement. He should keep this program at a high level even after Mitchell is gone.1 point

2011 TV Revenues Per Conference http://collegesports...-by-conference/ _____________________________________________________ And this, too. http://www.sportsbus...ights-Fees.aspx GMG! Addendum: I know we all really hope the upcoming CUSA TV rights negotiations go well for us all and maybe even exceed our greatest expectations for each of our schools, but lest we forget whatever North Texas receives in the CUSA package will be about 100% improvement than what we ever received from the SBC. It's a start.1 point

Foster will most likely stay the closest of the 3 , but I think he has BIG XII aspirastions. I can't blame him , he's that good. Williams is a 2013 and he's very solid. Probably not ranked due to a back injury he had last year which forced him to miss a lot of time. I haven't seen Senglin play yet. Will make it a priority to this summer1 point

I figured the Frazier, Foster, Harris triumvirate was likely out of reach...Foster being the most likely to come aboard here. I'd be hip to pulling the point Tasty raved about at GASO...Michael Williams(?)...impressive tape I saw on him, though for some reason he's not listed on the TexasHoops top 121...was he class of '14?1 point

Physically, the kid looks like a player but I have yet to see anything close to a mid major in 2 years. Unless he improves dramatically over the summer, I don't understand the offer. Not the type of talent to upgrade or sustain what we have. Fallen down to 45 on Tx Hoops.1 point

I agree this plan would create a permit underclass of 60. The top 64 would the monopoly in recruiting and in money. Every one the 124 team should have chance at national title every year period.1 point

One of the best to ever don the Green just finished up his career. Our OOC schedule is going to be a challenge (outside of Southern). 5 wins is a good benchmark. I'd be thrilled with a 6-6 record.1 point

ONe thing you can be sure of about Chip (Mack) Brown--whatever he speculates, the exact opposite will occur. Never have I seen someone so wrong in my life about all things realignment. Some of Chimp's best work on the subject: "Its a done deal. UT, Tech, OU, OSU, and A&M to the Pac-whatever" in summer of 2010. "Absolutely no way the Aggies can leave Texas behind and go to the SEC. No way that ever happens." Last summer "Texas, OU, Tech, and OSU to the Pac-16--the LHN will be used as a conference network." Last year "Look for Notre Dame and Arkansas to join the Big XII soon...ok, maybe BYU...ok, maybe Louisville..." They got TCU and WVU This guy absolutely is the anti-Nostradamus of Conference Realignment, but I gotta hand it to the guy--he's a volume poster and one of these days, whatever DeLoss tells him to throw out there will be right.1 point

Well, with just about as many teams moved as possible, DeLoss has now authorized Chip to wind up the Texas 12 propagandizing machine again. Gee, Chip, where else would the Notre Damers go? Let's see, it's the Big Ten or Texas 12. This was real difficult to figure out. Granted, Notre Dame would have to give up their monopoly of self and step down to join the monopoly of Texas and Big 8 rival-traitors Oklahoma. The Big Ten won't allow that, so... ...wowee, Chip, what a scoop. I think the Hardy Boys were on this one ages ago. If not, Nancy Drew certainly had it. Next, puff of smoke from Chip - BYU: Pac-14...16...18 or Texas 12.1 point
