He's done so much, this doesn't surprise me. I know people have a lot of problems with RV for a lot of different reasons... some of them quite trivial. But you have to admit he has done so much for this university. Except for that football head coach decision a few years ago.6 points

Hopefully is the key word. Houston, SMU, Memphis, Navy, Cinci, UCF, USF, Rutgers, and UCONN could cherry pick whomever they wanted from CUSA, SBC, and MAC. Fact is existing CUSA membership are not thrilled about the new additions and would bolt with that group in a heartbeat. We would leave for that conference in a heartbeat.4 points

I have only seen the sketch that was shown in the NT Daily. Conceptual designs for the bridge were unveiled at UNT’s Board of Regents meeting on Aug. 18. Plans depict a walkway with a V-shaped roof, intended to mirror the design of the new football stadium.4 points

You're not the first person that I have heard ask why they didn't "detain" Zimmerman until the investigation was complete. The problem is that it violates the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments. There is no such thing as "detaining" someone while you conduct an entire investigation. It is called arresting. You can not arrest without cause. You can detain someone while you conduct an INITIAL investigation, which was done. If you simply arrest someone while you conduct an investigation for days, not only are you violating state and federal laws, you are violating the suspect's civil rights, and the defense attorney will seek a Writ of Habeas Corpus. Not only will it be granted, your entire case will probably be shot to hell because you know that the fact that you unlawfully detained the individual will be presented as evidence. Say bye bye to your case. Oh, and you know that you will not only possibly lose your job and never work as a police officer again, but you will be big trouble with the judge, and you may even end up in jail yourself. At the time of the initial investigation, they determined there was not enough evidence, or that there was enough reasonable doubt, not to arrest. I know, I know, this one dectective thought he should have been arrested that night. They probably determined that the case was too "flimsy" and to conduct a more thorough investigation and see if there was enough to obtain an arrest warrant.4 points

--- One item not mentioned which changed college football was the explosion of TV channels about 1980 once satellite communications became highly developed.. ESPN and CNN and many other channels soon appeared which changed things from the 1-2 games per weeks to the insane number that exist s now... That created a lot of revenue available to college football. That changed football a lot and increased interest. Wasn't long after that the conference switching began and grew rapidly. . --- The NFL became very popular about 1960 for a similar reason after most people in the mid/late 50's got TV and actually could watch games and the group that started the AFL realized the potential and started it... which spread football all over America [ example; St. Louis was the closest team to Texas until then. ] The Cowboys were created in an vast NFL geographic vacuum [no southern NFL teams then or anything between St. Louis and LA.... plus were in the division with the densely populated market of NY, Philly and Washington.... so... they became America's team because of so much geographic area and their success. . TV then went to all color in mid 60's which made even more enjoyable and then the leagues merged. . ---The last item that changed sports some is the Internet that rapidly grew in the late 90's.... people could keep up with their favorites daily and do things like this board plus even play fantasy sports . All this explains why football sports salaries and income are so insane now compare to what they once were .... Teams are still chasing money and increased status... more than ever.. ---I am old ..but no one in Texas paid much attention to the NFL when I was in school in the 50's and into very early 60's. College football got more attention [but not so much] because UT was being successful and people actually could see or go to college games.. In short ...football especially owes its popularity and success to improved technology as much as anything. Salaries in the NFL were pretty low even into the 60's.3 points

That is the point he was making. It's one of the few "gotta watch live" programs on TV.3 points

Big difference between Rice and UH games: the number of seats available to opposing teams. At Rice, there's basically unlimited seating for opponents and anyone can walk up at game time and get a ticket. UH-UNT will be sold out and sold out in advance. So if you're planning on going, get your seats as early as possible.2 points

With the elimination of AQ in the BCS and the fact that the C-USA has expanded into large fast growing media markets, the C-USA could in a few years close the gap with the big east. The Big East is not scheduled to renegotiate it's television contract until September. C-USA needs to immediately negotiate new TV contracts and beat the Big East to the table. C-USA has added a combination of established and emerging programs. Four of the five schools bring a market size ranked among the top 36 in the country and totaling over two million more TV households than the league held this past year. Now that ODU as committed that wll bring an additional 718,750 households, totally close to three million more TV households. Five of the six schools are in the fastest growing media markets. Four of the six schools are media markets without direct competition from other major Universities or Pro teams. After realignment the C-USA increase the number of large media markets in markets and dramatically increase the number of television households. This author of this article misses this entire point; the C-USA has position itself for better long-term growth than any other conference. None of the other conferences have any room for growth, they have already saturated their markets. C-USA was clever enough to expand within it's hold geographical foot print, yet add new large media markets like San Antonio, Charlotte, Miami, and Norfolk and secure itself in the DFW market. The C-USA is located in the fastest geographical region of the country. According to the US Census Bureau, from 2000 to 2010, regional growth was much faster for the South and West (14.3 and 13.8 percent, respectively) than for the Midwest (3.9 percent) and Northeast (3.2 percent). While expanding, the C-USA avoided media markets dominated by the SEC or the ACC. After realignment, the C-USA loss Memphis and Orlando. Neither of which are major media losses. The Tennessee market is relatively small and is being dominated by the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt both of the SEC. Similarly the Florida market is dominated by the ACC and the SEC. The C-USA can offered television networks a conference that includes large rapidly growing media markets with a huge number of television households, in the fastest growing region in the country without offering any direct competition to the network's existing contracts with any of other large conferences. This is fricken brilliant!2 points

Interesting post by a ECU fan on the CUSA board. "I think when we realized the merger wasn't going to happen C-USA pulled a power play and locked the MWC out of the state of Texas. Effectively we neutered almost all attractive expansion candidates they had by inviting UTSA and UNT and keeping UTEP."2 points

NEWSFLASH - The population growth in the area is Denton County, Collin County, Rockwall County, and northern Tarrant County. The last people to leave Dallas, remember to turn out the lights and shut the door. I'd have the Caravan hit areas easily accessible by Wylie/Sachse/Rowlett/Rockwall before I'd consider Dallas again. I know of more than a few fellow Mean Green grads in those cities. All said, the two Plano events we've been to have been smashing. Truly hope that Mr. Case continues to invite us back every year.2 points

I couldn't care less what LSU thinks. For me, I like who UNT signed and am more than happy not to have Odoh. Pretty raw talent. If he signs at LSU, I think JJ will have a very big project on his hands for a couple of years. I wish the kid well...and who the heck cares what LSU thinks? I'd be plenty OK with never playing them again...unless it's a bowl game or NCAA game!2 points

1984 was not the beginning of the "modern era" of college football. It was 1992 with the creation of 12-team SEC. Just like the Cold War didn't end when Regan said to tear down the wall. Also do you DVR football? Dollar to a donut most viewers like to watch live games.2 points

Good read but realignment is not even close to being done. I would be shocked if CUSA retained it's current membership for more than 3 years. When (not if) we lose teams I just hope they are not regional and if they are I hope we backfill with regional. My best guess on what will happen. The ACC stays intact. The SEC stops and the Big XII adds two from the Big East. Boise State and SDSU will find their way back to the MWC. The Big East football and basketball have a divorce and the football side shores up membership from the best available of what if left - Airport Meeting part deaux. The Big East will be the old CUSA. The new CUSA will be interesting hybrid blend that will take the historical WAC place in the pecking order, the SBC will still be the SBC like the MAC will still be the MAC. Order will then be restored - for a little while. The new have nots pecking order: Conference formely known as Big East MWC - without Boise State nothing much else here in football CUSA 3.0 MAC SBC - no offense SBC but you will have more teams moving to CUSA 3.0 to backfill those departing to the Big East WAC - I know they are in hospice but it doesn't feel right to not mention them.2 points

Making a big leap here. No one knows if Zimmerman pursued Martin or not. Again, we don't know. I will tell you that common, everyday citizens call and report suspicious activity to the police everyday, often following the suspicious person until the police arrive. And there is absolutely nothing illegal or even morally wrong with that behavior. Conflict can always be avoided by ignoring illegal or suspicious behavior. Do you really want to live in a society like that?2 points

Brent Musbeger has said on a recent ESPN telecast he thought it would go to a 16 team play-off eventually which still allows for a Cinderella type team IMO. The 4 game play-off really doesn't change much from what the NCAA already has, but I guess its a good start to eventually get more teams involved. Wonder why they don't see March Madness as a model for college football? . GMG!2 points

Good to see a strong basketball add. I know many are "football only" people, but positioning ourselves with stronger programs in all sports can only help us. With our recent recruiting and the kids I think Benford will pull in there is no reason to fear strengthening our competition.2 points

Think outside of the UNT box. Want to re-kindle the Matress Max relationship with UNT? GIVE Mac a block of 250-500 tickets to the game so he can give away the tickets to customers at a store promotion. Oh, and let McCarney handle this for the AD. Harry, those are some great ideas.2 points

Yeah, I know - and I appreciate the teasin' - but then remember in those "heady" days there were not 35 or so bowls - and the New Orleans bowl was not even a twinkle in New Orlean's eye, much less ours. But might I also suggest that the UT games in the Fry years (and I am not referring to The University of Tennessee) played the role of bowl games for little ole NTSU - and the Mean Green played far better against UT than expected in those soon-to-end days of better administrative support (Jitter Nolen) for athletics. serious question(cause recruiting is serious business in my opinion). Once a player is in college with another program for 2 or even just 1 year, are their * ratings by rivals and/or scout relevant anymore? I would submit no. Playing time/stats at said previous program should be the way to sell how good the player is...and reason for leaving the program... Anyways, here's to hoping we see some high school commits soon. The quiet is starting to scare me a little bit. These transfers, to me anyway, resemble juco kids. I still MUCH MUCH prefer to build a program with 4 years(or redshirt 5) players... Yeah, I guess this is stating the obvious, so...sorry? Go Mean Green2 points
