  3. Smack board fodder. What else? This one is also getting lots of play on other conference boards. If CUSA were really looking at App. State then there are are a dozen others (give/take) with much larger markets they should look at before ASU. I know the east division of CUSA needs some more teams but for heaven's sake, we have our FCS additions already. Come on folks, we just left a conference whose motto seemed like one so familiar to us all as in "give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to............(slight alteration here) be in a conference that rather they might need to start out in the same darn "starter kit" conference North Texas had to join post-Big West implosion and our still coming out of those 12 most forgettable years in NCAA D1-AA." What some of these school are doing would be tantamount to North Texas leaving the Sun Belt with a senseless entitlement or expectation that we should jump immediately to the Big 12. Sorry, but rare are the UTSA's and USF's and the UCF's who get to jump over a conference that in a normal situation they'd be in like the Sun Belt and/or CUSA to land in much higher profile conferences. North Texas had to pay its dues and more............everyone else should have to do the same. Just sayin'... GMG ! !

  4. Anyone waiting until 2013 to by season tickets need to realize that 2012 ticket holders will have first shot to renew their tickets in 2013. If you want to make sure to have great tickets for 2013, you really need to buy season tickets now for 2012.

  5. NCAA Increased Academic Policies in 2016 ...... In a recent move by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors, academics are very soon going to be dramatically changed and the landscape of college athletics will forever be different. Starting with the upcoming high school freshman class, the class of 2016, there will be a major shift into what GPA is required for a high school graduate to be eligible for participation into Division I sports entering college. Instead of the minimum 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0) scale in core classes, the minimum GPA will now be a 2.3 GPA. Please note there will still be a sliding scale on what a student-athlete has to score on one of the two main standardized tests (SAT/ACT.) Also, 10 of the 16 core classes must have been taken before a prospective student-athletes senior year. According to ESPN, almost 40% of all 2011 entering freshmen football players would have been ineligible to participate this past season. FORTY PERCENT!!! That is a ridiculously high number which shows how academically unprepared most of these football players are coming into college. Why did the NCAA do this? There are quite a few reasons that lead into this decision by the NCAA....... (full article link): http://dev.chuckoliver.net/2012/05/why-ncaa-increased-academic-policies-in-2016/

  7. "I only experienced two years of Darrell Dickey but didnt he have a couple of Hard Knocks on his team? Isnt that why Dodge had to kick some guys off the team when he first came in?" The "funny" part of this was that Dodge conducted the drug tests to get the bad Dickey people off HIS team...and wound up busting a ot of the kids that he recruited. Just another example of fail.

  10. At this point, I'm not holding my breathe. If we got this guy, it would be quite a kickstart for our entrance into cusa. Could be a good to great successor for the post DT era.

  11. At least all the off season activity got us through almost all the way through May (yes, I'm counting on residual threads to get us through the rest of the month) before helmet sticker talk and soon-to-come uniform talk reared it's very ugly head. Even political talk has been muted in an election year with all the happenings with the Mean Green, and that is always a great thing. Now there is only 2 1/2 months for us to get bored with/pissed off at each other.

  13. Also...I'm not sure what to make of it, but Stock is listed on the roster...I'm almost certain he was taken off when news broke he was gone...probably nothing, but as an optimist I felt it merited mention.

  14. I became a fan in 2004, so I've only been through one good season of football, but still enjoyed every season. However, where we are now compared to 2004 is night and day. Across the board from budget to administration to coaches to support we have improved, and it will only get better. I am still amazed that we have had not one, but two great people representing UNT in Gretchen Bataille(Can't remember the spelling) and Lane Rawlins. We are incredibly lucky to be where we are today given how bad football got to be at one point. The conference move, some basketball press, maybe a bowl game in the next two seasons and who knows how far we can go. It is imperative that we have strong attendance this season though, a 6-6 football season or better would do wonder for the perception of the program when it comes to students. I have sat in the student section the past 8 years and know the type of people that come and go there. It had been disappointment after disappointment at home until last season, I'm surprised we stayed over 15k in some years. I think the conference move won't be a massive factor, but will motivate some around the area to come to more games, I'm pretty confident of that. I've heard a few students around campus talking about it, but I'm not sure most really know about the conference. I think when 2013 rolls around we'll see North Texas athletics in a light it's never been before and with two winnable at home OOC games(Ball St. & Ohio) on the slate could be our breakout year, I think a return to a bowl game and the fact that people still talk of our bowl run would really get the students out, it's only a matter of time. I'm Still just amazed how far we have came in 8 years without any major football success.

  17. ...throw in the many Arkansas fans up there as well. Plenty of Razorback fans in the NE Oklahoma area. Tulsa damn near droppped down to I-AA while I was in law school there. They should be happy that Kragthorpe resurrected the football program and made them at least a little relevant. Look, Tulsa is sore because they began winning, yet that counted for very little. We'd be just as frustrated, I'm sure, if the tables were turned and we had been in C-USA for several years, saw three bowl-playing schools leave, then had to replace them with Sun Belters and start ups. So... ...the only thing to do is kick their whiny asses the next time we play them to help them understand we're as good or better than the schools that left.

  22. That's a dang good lineup and probably close to what it could look like. There have been plenty of discussions regarding the potential of the 2013 ball club, and thank goodness we will have that kind of roster heading into a schedule with Georgia, C-USA, and possibly some MWC teams. I would add a name to the secondary who the coaches seem very excited about: Devante Davis, CB from Baton Rouge. Apparently he may be the most exciting recruit of the Coach Mac era thus far. They are very high on Xavier Kelly as well.

  26. From the famous Todd Archer http://soundcloud.com/oddibe-mcben/todd-archer-intro "The Cowboys have 90 players on the roster, including their seven unsigned draft picks. The team is hoping to sign its picks by mid-June after waiting nearly until the week before training camp to talk to the players’ agents in past years. "

  28. Let me go on record by saying....I am not a fan of the sticker. I have nightmares with Ohio State helmets all over the place with buckeyes non-stop. I can't tell you how many times I've woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, too; sometimes even a fever. GMG!

  34. Let's be honest, C-USA was not going to upgrade. Nobody was going to leave the Big East, SEC, or Big 12 to move to C-USA. Tulsa should thank their stars that C-USA didn't fall apart around them and leave them out to dry like NM State or Idaho. While Tulsa may have a high opinion of itself, it is a small school in a media market the size of Schenectady... AND with two large competing fanbases of Big 12 state universities. YOU'RE WELCOME, Mr. Upham.

  35. Great words by a great man. Only wish the "community" would awaken and realize that the biggest employer in town is a decisive factor in growing Denton into an active college town and permit it to be viewed as an integral part of a rapidly expanding DFW metroplex. The enthusiasm of the " community" might even awaken some of the Greeks, Geeks, Potheads, and Jazzheads in the student body!!!

  36. And when AQ is gone, it means that five conferences will split the same money five ways instead of six. Not sure how the AQ removal is a good thing. It's not like CUSA or MWC (or the Big East) will have a better chance in the new system.

  39. ODU vs MTSU comparisons Old Dominon: Endwoment:............170 Million Students:................24K Athletic Budget:.......32 Million Baketball Att:...........7,745 Football Att:............19,818....3 years of consecutive sell outs with big waiting list for season tickets. MTSU: Endowment:...........52.4 Million Students:..............24K Athletic Budget:.....20 Mill Basketball Att:.......3,640 Football Att:..........18,407 After looking at the comparisons, I think its absolutely clear as to why CUSA prefers ODU over MTSU.

  45. Jordan Case was the best QB I saw play at NT.
    1 point
  46. Why? What does this case have to do with gun laws or stand your ground laws? IF Zimmerman was attacked then he had the right to defend himself. If he wasn't, then he's guilty of murder. Done and done. No need to evaluate gun laws or self defense laws. He's either guilty of murder or he isn't. ...unless you don't believe someone should be legally protected if they defend themselves, in which case I don't think we'll find much common ground.
