Suess you are a cool dude and a great fan , but I gotta ask : What exactly were you right about ? Here are some of your quotes when we the coaching search was going on : Im all about Fran being hired, I just wanted a coach that at least made it past the first round This is the year to make a splash, we need a proven HC that can take these guys to the next level Maybe I'm missing something or totally missing your original post. Did you say Benford should be the guy ? Side note , I think it's pretty clear that Robinson is gone4 points

i agree...i'd like to seperate from the sun belt, not bring many of them with us. that may be elitist thinking, but we are growing and need to do that with new schools.3 points

That has nothing to do with it. Plus UGA is in Athens GA, Georgia Tech is in Atlanta. Georgia State doesn't not have the propper facilities. If CUSA goes past 14 to 16 the next 2 I would see getting in are MTSU and WKU. To be honest though after ODU accepts I hope CUSA stops at 14. EAST Charlotte ODU Marshall ECU UAB USM FIU WEST LA Tech Tulsa UNT UTSA Rice UTEP Tulane There are no divisions in CUSA duing basketball season. There could be 2 games added to the conferece schedule and each team play each other in basketball like football division. Each team in the east/west plays Home and Home and play 3 home games and 3 away games against the other division. Football you would play 3 home and 3 away against your division and 2 crossover games.3 points

I'm not sure who is going to start. I don't really care either. All I know is that we are going to run 10 deep. A solid 10 at that.3 points

Without looking at any incoming players, im going to go ahead & say our 2nd team will be better than just about everyone's starting 5 outside of maybe MTSU3 points

With all the craziness going on around here over the last 3-4 weeks, I felt that we needed a thread dedicated to tracking Dunbar and his progress with the Cowboys. It seems that he is making a good impression with the coaches, but I hope his is putting in overtime in the weight room. That seems to be the area that needs most improvement. http://sportsblogs.star-telegram.com/cowboys/2012/05/local-product-lance-dunbar-looking-to-stick-as-a-running-back.html Enjoy.2 points

ODU gives us the Nofolk/Tidewater VA market. Norfolk is the larget market out there without any pro sports. Norfolk/Tidewater is a hotbed of IA talent. Marshall has pulled plenty of kids out of there and its where VA Tech was recruiting a lot when they started their rise in the late 80s early 90s. There are usully like 2 HS in the top 25 HS nationwide in football in the Tidewater area.2 points

Serious question Mr. Amiable. Have you ever been to a game at LaLa? If so, then how does the LaTech tailgating atmosphere compare to them? Because I have to tell you that I have never been to a better tailgating experience than LaLa.2 points

I think the first time La Tech visits Apogee Stadium they do bring close to 5,000 fans. Our UNT students may need to be teased that "someone wearing red and blue will be sitting in their seats if they don't get to the stadium on time." (Of course, La Tech fans will have an assigned section). I do hope our UNT athletic dept. promotions department (do we have one?) will have already started on some clever promotions they need to plan to fill the Wing Section end zone (for starters) this year and If not for this Fall, for certain our first one in CUSA. To use Silver Eagles terminology, now is the time to develop our new on campus culture where you support the team no matter who they're playing or no matter the W/L record. I know when Coach Fry first hired on at Iowa, he was amazed at Hawkeye fan support after about 20 losing seasons in a row in the Big 10. When he was introduced to Iowa fans at a baskeball game in 1978 all he said was 2 words "We'll Win" and he brought the house down according to stories I heard from Iowans. (Sorry, guys, with me you have to put up with old dad jokes and Hayden Fry--he did leave an indelible impression with me and many others on this board to say the least; seems he also did with Dan McCarney) GMG! Like so many of you , I look forward to having a set conference home schedule at Apogee annually with schools only someone living in a cave would not know about. This is going to be fun. Like Coach McCarney has even referred to about Apogee inasmuch that it should have been built years (decades) ago, but..........better late than never. GMG!! As I post, watching the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies" and UNT grad/alum actor Joe Don Baker of Groesbeck, Texas, just walked into a scene with Bond...............James Bond.2 points

Agreed. I think the starting lineup will look something like this. G - CJ G - PJ or Alzee F - Jordan F - Patton F - Tony I know everyone has Odoh penciled in to start, but I'm going set my expectations pretty low when it comes to him, and hope that he surprises me. If he was good enough to be a sure-fire starter, he would have had a lot more offers. I think he's going to be a project. But after that, you bring in Walton, Roger, Holmen, Trey, and Niko off the bench. This team is deep. Juggling minutes should be a fun task for Coach B, but that's a good problem to have.2 points

UNTexas, UTEP has plenty of solid programs, just like UNT. Stop acting as if UNT is some paragon in state school academics. As someone who has been on both campuses multiple times, the vibe from the people at each university (and their respective cities, i.e. Denton) is incredibly similar. I understand that UTEP fans are acting like they're the Longhorns of the Big XII in CUSA, but they've got seniority and have gone to bowl games and NCAA tournaments in the last decade. That's usually enough to be prideful in. They also talk the way they do because they know UNT and UTSA pose a threat to them.2 points
-
Knowing the Sun Belt officiating they wouldn't notice us having 6 on the court. I don't believe this has been brought up yet about the move to CUSA that is HUGE is the officiating! Sun Belt is dreadful in Football and BBall. Can't wait for better officiating in 20132 points

I have been reading other CUSA boards. It's pretty interesting to read how different fans tend to behave. ECU fans talk a big game but seem to be pretty funny for the most part. Solid looking fan base. Tulane, Tulsa, and USM seem pretty well mannered but aren't really vocal. La Tech is really thrilled. I guess I don't blame them. We are too! UTSA folks seem genuinely happy and very excited about their future. They are getting dragged through the coals by a lot of people for no reason. They are in. Not much else to say. I think they will become a good program. San Antonio is a great town and will be fun to go watch games. They are going to rape a few other schools on recruiting. Speaking of UTSA bashing, UTEP seems to think they are super special. They have a horrid football history, shameful academics standards, and accept anyone who applies. They are super insecure and are bashing UTSA nonstop. Probably because UTSA has more to offer in the long run. They pimp El Paso continuously. I just moved from EP. It's an awful city with no redeeming qualities unless you like obese women, nothing to do, or Chico's Tacos. Unfit cuisine for a starving person I might add. (sorry in advance, El Pasoans will go crazy over that statement) Anyway, they are going crazy over UTSA. I wish our fans would chill out on mentioning Apogee every other word. (so does everyone else) Everyone knows we have a new stadium. We need to win or none of this stuff going on means crap. Marshal has some really awesome folks. Especially a current student that was apparently robbed by a swimmer during a one night stand after she peed his bed. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. Great thread though. The rest of the schools are silent for the most part. It's going to be a fun conference.1 point

Thanks for that southern' hosptitality, Southern Miss Alum. One of the worst rain games some of us on this board ever saw at our old stadium was against USM in 1981. We had an ex Mississippi State HFC as our "one year" coach that year, his name...Bob Tyler. We lost against USM and 9 other schools that year in what was many of my era's fellow alums call our worse year as UNT alums or Mean Green fans. Then there was that NO's Bowl game..............I'll stop! LOL! I think you'll see a much more competitive Mean Green team in the near future; maybe not our first couple years, but in the near future. We'll be fine in basketball as a CUSA school.1 point

We'll have the Golden Panthers, the Golden Eagles, and the Eagles all th one same conference. It's a party in C-USA (in your best Miley Cirus voice). (Note to newbies to the forum that don't know, our mascot = the Eagles. Our nickname = the Mean Green. For some reason, even some of our own have challenges grasping this concept.)1 point

You keep posting that and I keep correcting you! A $400 million dollar endowment is just 1 of 7 thresholds. 4 thresholds must be obtained to acquire tier 1 status. The only required threshold is research expenditures, that paired with any 3 thresholds from the remaining 6 thresholds qualifies a university for tier 1 status.1 point

It's all good everybody has their sense of taste. Just like me and In N Out...don't get me wrong it's a good burger but I don't get the constant obsession and boner over that place...especially when they first opened here in the metroplex last year. I can't say it's better than it's competitors in my personal opinion. I don't get Californians and their In N Out.1 point

I knew this was going to happen as soon as UNT made it known they wanted him. If you were paying any attention you would have known that SMU's staff has been full since the day Larry Brown was hired. The only position that SMU had open on their staff was an non-recruiting administrative role and let's be honest you don't hire Evans for that role. I didn't think there was much of a chance of TCU keeping him with the staff turnover. The new TCU coach does things differently from everyone else in college basketball. Coach Evans is a great coach and everyone that meets him loves him. He is a great get for UNT.1 point

NMSU is sol unless ODU turns down offer to join CUSA and MTSU accepts. then the Belt might reach out. otherwise, the Aggies are in the same boat as Idaho.1 point

Based on his past stats, I would like to think that Patton will start alongside TM down low with Odoh mainly coming off the bench for defensive purposes. The thing is, I missed that Grambling game at The Pit and have not yet seen much of him. How would you describe his game? Not that he's destined to be an NBA Hall of Famer, but would you say his style of play is a little along the lines of a Scotty Pippen? At least that is how I saw his game described on a website somewhere. Of course Odoh vs. Patton vs. whomever starting could at times be based on matchups among other things. Patton, Mitchell, and Odoh going at the 3/4/5 against some of our bigger opponents (i.e. KState) has the potential to be interesting.1 point

The message board banner is predictable and a lot of it is negative. Tulane who had one of the worst if not the worst football teams in the nation last year, has a lot of fans that are really upset about all the newcomers with the surprising exception of La Tech. Tulsa fans think that they will win about everything in the very weak West. The Belt message board is full of upset people proclaiming that the Belt will soon past CUSA quickly as they replaced what they lost with better teams. Outside of the Belt board, were you would think that NT never were competitive in anything from a lot of comments; NT is usually mostly ignored. A lot of gripes about UTSA and a few lauding the La Tech addition. Not many have shown any excitement about NT's entry, other than to bemoan in general the poor group of schools added. Despite, the lukewarm welcome from current CUSA members and the sour grapes coming from a lot of Belt fans; NT is in CUSA and I think will quickly surprise a lot of people. It was a long time coming, and could be the start of the emergence of NT as a sports power.1 point
