  1. I guess since we can't have conference realignment threads anymore, we need to go back to the other old standby. Helmet threads.

  2. UH fan here who would like to build off our 1:1. Easy enough trip for both fanbases.

  3. ODU seems comfortable with Colonial members such as VCU, William & Mary, James Madison U, etc. and does not seem willing to risk the a large amount of funding for a bunch of "strangers". They would be distant from ten of the thirteen other members and I don't believe that they've been in a conference with any nor have they played them much. If they were willing to commit they would have announced tomorrow as the others are. I'm hopeful that Middle gets the nod as the 14th member. They bring adequate or better market, budget, experience, and facilities and they bridge the missing gap between North Carolina and Texas.

  4. Well, most already probably know this, but I did not. Once UNT announces its move to CUSA it will play in the Sunbelt one more year. However, during that final year UNT will receive ZERO revenue from the Sunbelt Conference. Conference must be notified of move by June 30th according to Commissioner Benson....then it forfeits one year of revenue! So, since most of us have talked long and hard about getting into a better conference, this move, while FANTASTIC, will cause a temporary hit to the AD's budget. So, as I have asked those who are on my Mean Green Club Volunteer Rep list to do...add a minimum of 10% to the donations you make to the Mean green Club and the Athletic Dept. this starting NOW! If everyone stepped up with a minimum of a 10% increase, we could help offset at least some of that revenue forfeit! And, for those who talk a good game, but have yet to donate for whatever reason, well, the time is now to open that checkbook or to pull out that credit card and to join the Mean green Club (at any level) or to just make a donation to the athletic department. I think we will definitely see some big time benefit from the move to CUSA, but in the meantime...WE all need to step it up at least a little in support of the Mean green. One thing we can all do is to also help recruit new Mean Green Club members and donors. To do that, one needs to talk in positive terms about the program and the University. It does not help to go around, even in ones personal cadre of friends, constantly complaining about personal and/or petty issues...one never knows who is listening or just needs that one more excuse to not give. Lots we can all do to help. So, as Nike likes to say...Just Do It! The time is NOW for the great Mean green nation...no more excuses, no more stalling...let's do this people. Join me and join your fellow Mean Green nation members in showing your support for the Mean Green...you CAN help make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

  5. Put "North Texas" on upper part of jersey and SOW on the helmet....no letters on the helmet a la UT, SMU and others. GMG!

  6. I agree, we need a new look with the new conference. Start with something new. SOW my vote!

  7. This article is pretty much spot on in its treatment of CUSA taking three FCS programs who have a combined 40 games in their recent history, NONE at the FBS level. This should NOT have been done and, I think, lowered the esteem of CUSA. It's not that these are unworthy institutions; they are simply not ready for this level of (football) play. It could be years before they are ready. There was no rush to admit them. Again, what was CUSA thinking? In the past Conference USA was not considered an entry level league but they've now outdone all but the SBC in the number of FCS teams admitted. The Sun Belt would've no doubt taken both UTSA and Charlotte and, if they became truly worthy, would've given them up to CUSA or the Big East later. ODU might have had to go the the MAC but they also could've been accepted later. There is also a possibility that ODU may not want to go to the FBS at this time. In addition to inexperience two of the three do not have FBS-level facilities. Old Dominion plays in a stadium that seats 19,818 (which to their credit they do sell out) and Charlotte will play in a 24,000 seat stadium. They are still a year away from playing a single down of football in their history. Conference USA should've admitted Middle Tennessee, who does meet the requirements of experience, facilities, market, attendance and budget. That would've given them 12 for now and still maintained their championship game. They could've added the others as they became ready. This black eye could take a while to heal.

  8. I've seen on several other sites the hold up is based on Virgina/Newport politics and is not a "no." they have to dot some i's and cross some t's and kiss a few a-- before they can officially say yes.

  9. Hey, i get it.And, I don't blame you one little bit for feeling a tad disappointed. And, I am very appreciative of those students who actually turned out to vote for the new stadium...BUT, let's be honest here...if we waited for students to turn out in force at ANY UNT athletic event, we would be waiting a very long time indeed. I look forward to our new conference alignment helping resolve the problem of general student apathy at UNT towards the athletic programs. And...as far as that goes...to the general "fan" apathy surrounding support for UNT Athletics and UNT in general over the years! Great things are happening...I should say...continuing to happen for UNT!

  10. Glad they made it clear Friday's event was only for the press. That way fans are free to attend the optional, voluntary workout session by the Women's basketball team. Can't interfer with that, now can we!

  11. Remember how WKU was talking about how they were going to be the best team in the Sun Belt before they joined? How did that work out?

  12. I'm guessing they are combining the Tuesday celebration with the Coaches Caravan on Tuesday, which is scheduled for 6-8pm at Apogee Stadium/CLub Level.

  18. I swore off responding to these types of threads, but I can't help myself.... If we ever decided to change our helmet, it has to be something different than just sticking the SOW logo on the side. That just screams bush league. I like that logo, but it doesn't belong on a helmet. Just my .02 cents.

  21. It will be a tough season with the Belt teams...except for FIU. When we play FIU this year, the game clock will start but there won't be any plays made because both teams and all of the fans will be too busy giving each other high fives! It's going to be an EPIC game!

  22. Texas State has not passed us in size or academics but they are ahead of UTSA in both and yet UTSA has gained a level on them conference-wise. UTSA was chosen for two reasons...market and attendance. There is nothing that Texas State can do about the San Antonio market; it is what it is. They are one county too far north. The University of Texas dominates or leads in many markets in Texas but none moreso than the Austin area where Texas State is located. It is not their university or their administration but their location that failed them. Texas State will do very well in the Sun Belt Conference. It's where they should be with their FBS startup program. Unfortunatelty, it's where UTSA should be also. They feel hurt by it because they are more proven in nearly every way than the Roadrunners. TSU will have a much tougher level of competition than their former FCS brethren but I believe that they'll do very well early for two reasons: 1) the SBC has been weakened somewhat by defections to other conferences and 2) they have a much better coach, who has recruited well.

  23. I vote no to scheduling SBC schools for 2013 on. We need a clean break. I think we should be able to fill our OOC schedule just fine with MWC schools.

  24. I got a $10 spot on RV bursting into tears before the 5 minute mark of the presser. This time, with good reason. (but really, I'm not betting anyone after that no nUTSAck to the CUSA debacle).

  25. And FWIW....it was the UNT students who really made this football stadium possible. Here! Here! To The UNT Students (and all the taxpayers, too). GMG!

  26. As long as RV is Athletic Director we will never put UNT on any uniform/helmet. It's too easy for ass hats to stick an R, C, or P in front of UNT.

  27. Meh on it being a media only event. Why can't we have the celebration Friday? It makes the most sense and some of us worked to clear our calendars for Friday because of the anticipated announcement.

  34. Early congrats to the University of North Texas Mean Green for the pending invite to Conference USA. Please do not turn your noses up at a tailgate in Ruston, we are the best tailgating hosts in the Deep South. Looking forward to some great battles in the futue, GO BULLDOGS, GO CUSA!!! p.s. Joe Green ate at my restaurant while on a recruiting trip for the Steelers. We got a picture but come to find out.....he was kinda mean!

  40. OK, lets use this example. If Vegas was only interested in attracting the hard corp gamblers, then all they needed to do was set up places to go sit down, maybe have a few drinks, and JUST GAMBLE. There are always going to be hard corp gamblers who would be perfectly happy to do just that. However, Vegas knew a long time ago that the not-so-hard-corp gamblers wanted lots of glitz and glamour. They still make the vast majority of their money off gambling, but it's the glitz and glamour AND A GOOD SHOW that keeps the non-hard corp gamblers, and their families, coming back.

  41. So you can only see in terms of either/or? All of those storied programs got there by having the WHOLE package. They didn't start out with great game-day experiences/pageantry But the pageantry quickly followed so that EVERYONE would have something.

  42. These are funny. Especially the one about Benson. Anytime you use the word harlot in a post, I'm going to give you a plus one. Having said that, I'm not going to kick any of our current conference-mates while they are down. If we were on the poo end of the stick, we would not like it. I look forward to one last good season in the Belt, and a bright future in C-USA. Go Mean Green!!!
