I loved the hire of Coach Dan. I didn't know much about him, but it took 5 minutes at his official Press Conference....and then I kneww we had someone special! I also loved Johnnie Jones. He pulled this program up to a great level, and I am proud he got the job that he coveted. He will be great! And, I also want thank all you loyal gomeangreen.com gang who keeps us up to date with tweets, blogs, rumors and the such. Every night I check in with great anticipation of breaking news, new recruits, and exciting updates. Seriously, thanks so much! Did you ever believe a basketball coach would leave Wake Forest for UNT? It appears we are closing in on a Men's Coach who will keep the train rolling! A new Conference affliation looks bright! Our other sports are having incredible years....from Women's Tennis to Golf! We have bitched at each other for years: including me! We were taking pot shots at other GoMeanGreen members, because we have an uncanny love for our University...and wanted the BEST! We have lots of desire. We know our University's potential is limitless! All the years of frustration and lack of facilities and lack of money are finally behind us! NOW: It's time for the Mean Green Nation! I'm proud to stand with each of you....'cause UNT is not the sleepy ole campus North of Dallas anymore! Thanks RV and the Staff for one GRAND job! For the students, Alums, fans and Administration thanks for believing "our time would time". I got a funny feeling...our time is about to be NOW!!! God Bless the Mean Green Nation!!!!18 points

Ummm wow! Let me see if I can recap. 1)JJ was black 2)Black coaches relate best to DISD kids because.... 3)DISD kids are black and by in large have grade issues, lack fathers or are simply "knuckle heads"...soooooo 4)A white coach could have no possible reference point when it comes to socio-economic ills and would therefore be ill equipped to handle the ruffians North Texas would inevitably attract AND... 5)These kids would never be admitted to any other Texas university Congratulations! You've achieved what was once thought impossible. You've managed to apply a broad racist brush to our ex-coach, our current players and our university.8 points

He is falling into a good situation with this talent. But I don't think he is going to be allowed a honeymoon period. Anything less than 20 wins/NCAA appearance with this talent is a big time disappointment. Most expect us to be pushing the top 25 and competing for a tourney win next year. Tough for a brand new head coach to come into these expectations, but they're there. Should be interesting.7 points

I know everybody hates twitter but I liked this comment on hire (National writer for The Daily): Dan Wolken @DanWolken No surprise, but North Texas made a better hire than SMU. 7m Ryan Coatney @DanWolken pretty sure benford was a finalist at SMU. apparently they didn't think he'd be a better hire. Dan Wolken @DanWolken Close @_coat They were wrong. There's a reason North Texas has won at basketball and SMU hasn't.5 points

Sad that coach Fran couldn't recruit someone, anyone, other than a freaking CHAIR and a kid with a broken wrist to demonstrate coaching strategy. If that's what we were facing, then give me Benford every day. If it were Fran, judging from his recruiting in his video, our 2015 starting lineup would have been: PG: 12-yr-old girl with a concussion SG: Souvenier cup from concession stand SF: ball rack PF: The little dribblers' captain C: A ladder4 points

Here's some good news about Benford... @espn_macmahon Tony Mitchell's HS coach says North Texas star has good relationship w/ Tony Benford from recruiting. Expects Mitchell to stay in school.4 points

I guess RV seeing Fran get abused on the pick-and-roll by a kid with one hand and a piece of waiting room furniture sold him on Benford. #ihopeheknowswhathe'sdoing4 points

So, it didn't help Delonte West get a head coaching position.3 points

He was close to being benched in favor of a folding chair? He really wanted the Riley Dodge jersey at the garage sale, but it was already gone? He voted against the Union expansion? He doesn't like the new mixed-use development going up on Fry St? He just found out about Ray? I mean, your guess is as good as any of mine...3 points

Really? This past year, Murray State was top ten most of the year and lost in the second round of the tournament. When you are a mid-major, you better be GREAT to expect to win a game or two in the tournament. Butler and Gonzaga are the exception to the rule. The seedings are not really made to favor you when you aren't from an AQ conference. To go further, one SBC team made it to the Sweet 16 in the last 15+ years, Western Kentucky in 2008, who was seeded 12th and got mid-major Drake in its first game, then beat 13th seeded San Diego in the second round. The expectation for this season, barring injuries or defections, and assuming that the new coach gels with the current players, should be to win the SBC. If you do that, then win the conference tournament, and get anything above a 14 seed, then you can have a decent-to-good chance of winning a game during March Madness. That's reasonable, assuming ALL of the components of the first sentence of this paragraph hold true, which traditionally hasn't happened here at UNT, even with a stable coaching situation.3 points

They are good for a laugh. Those morons got stuck with a senile old 72 year old because nobody else in their right mind would take the job. I love how Orsini was quoted as saying they got who they wanted all along. In other news, Orsini is June Jone's Associate Pastor at the inner city ministry of their imagination. I grew up in the Methodist Church and SMU is an embarrassment.3 points

He also tweeted that he loved Forrest's wife as a momma. Said they were all coming to visit today! WHAT CAN THAT MEAN????????3 points

I don't dispute whether his relationship with Benford is good or not, but I really do think that Tony and the rest of the guys really believed in Forrest and wanted him to get the position. That's all.3 points

Seems now like little Eric Capper tried to break the news too soon and got his grubby little hands swatted by the AD. Twitter will make some people do some stupid things. I'd fire him for insubordination.3 points

I think it's less an issue with Benford, but I think for many its more of a disappointment in not landing some of the other names associated with our search. Perception is Benford = Forrest...at least from what I've read here in the past few weeks. We really have no idea what sort of negotiations went down...Capel was my man, but I think that was just a rumor...Fran may or may not have been as interested, Forrest may never have been a consideration. RV knows how important a hire this is...so...welcome Coach Benford.3 points

Post what you were referring to. Also, for such a Marquette follower, you sure seem eager to unload benford. Why?3 points

Well yeah, it seems pretty likely that's what happened, as some posted a few days ago. It's just kind of funny watching the spin being put on it. And you would think we could find a station (or stations) with comparable coverage to what we had before.2 points

Can you imagine the condition of the fans at 11:00am in New Orleans? That is a hideous start time for the game. Further that is 9:00am on the west coast! So much for any left side of the country viewership. With the evening kickoff you had all time zones watching. I remember being in the Aria sportsbook watching that monumental finish last year. San Diego State fan went from a Hangover high to a sad low all in one minute. GMG2 points
